Summary: Jack teaches his best friend how to dance.

Prince Leland sighed, leaning against the walls of the Plaid Palace. The event was due to start in a few hours, and he was not in the mood for it.

The young prince had never been a fan of these functions, even when he was little. They were an excuse for rich idiots to put on silly costumes and drink the night away. But since he was the crown prince, he couldn't skip out on them.

He was not looking forward to the… ahem, what had his mother called it? Ah yes, the mandatory ballroom dance. He had never been good at dancing; dare say, he had two left feet. On top of that, his parents had been suggesting that he start looking for a candidate to marry.

His parents had shown him some potential options - he'd even met a few - but none had really drawn his attention. And tonight, he was going to be forced to interact with even more of them. It was not as if he hated his suitors, most of them were lovely.

… but he didn't want to marry them.

Leland sighed, blocking out the music from the room next door. Well, he'd have to make a choice eventually… but with whom? He just didn't know-

"Leeloooo!"

Leland immediately perked up as his best friend approached.

"Jackie!" he responded. "What are you doin' here?"

"Just stopping by after an expedition," Jackie answered. "What about you, Leeloo?"

"I live here," Leland deadpanned.

"Oh yeah," Jack blinked. He looked around. "That's right… you're having an event tonight… I thought you hated those."

"I do," Leland grumbled, "but I don't get a choice about whether or not I go."

"Yeah," Jack sighed. "My parents are always making me go to parties and big events. Whenever I try to speak about my cause, people always interrupt to hand me presents…"

It was almost comical, the amount of gifts Jack received. Leland wasn't surprised; Jack's looks were nothing to scoff at.

"I told ya, Jackie," Leland waved a hand. "It's all 'bout power. That's what people are interested in."

"They're so very wrong," Jack huffed, leaning against the wall. "Oh, Leeloo… no one takes me seriously."

He sighed, dramatically. He gazed up at his friend. Leland raised his brows.

"… something's bothering you," Jack noted. "What's wrong?"

"I hate parties," Leland snapped.

"I know, Leeloo," Jack waved a hand. "I mean… something else is bothering you, right?"

Leland sighed. Sometimes, Jackie was incredibly naive… and other times, he was far too observant.

"I hate dancing," Leland grumbled. "There's gonna be a ton of it tonight."

"Why do you hate dancing?!" Jack gasped. "It's so fun!"

"No, it's not!" Leland snapped. "It's stupid, and I trip over my own feet every time I do it!"

"You just need practice, Leeloo," Jack replied. "It's simple! Watch."

He grabbed his friend's shoulders, leading him away from the wall.

Leland made a face. "Uhhhh?!"

"Hold onto me, just like this," Jack said, grabbing Leland's hand. He placed it on his side. "Take my other hand as well."

Leland took Jack's other hand, brow raised.

"Now, it's just one foot in front of the other," Jack told him. "We'll take it slow. Watch my feet movements."

They moved slowly back and forth. Leland kept an eye on his friend, as well as the positioning of his feet.

"You see?" Jack said. "It's easy. Listen to the music! One foot in front of the other!"

They moved around in a circle, Leland stepping on Jack's boot. Leland grunted, stepping away.

"See what I mean?" he snapped.

"Oh, everyone does that from time to time," Jack waved it off. "You'll get the hang of it, Leeloo!"

He took Leland's hands again, and the dance continued. They danced in silence for a few brief moments.

"Making sense?" Jack asked.

"I guess," Leland grumbled, nearly stepping on Jack's foot again.

"You've improved already," Jack told him. "You'll be killing it by tonight!"

The two increased their speed slightly. The more they went along, the more the moves made sense… Leland had to admit, he was finally starting to understand.

The song next door grew louder. Soon, the princes were able to keep up with its tempo.

Jack grinned. "Now that's what I'm talking about! Nice work, Leeloo!"

The two span around in a circle. Jack was glowing, his sparkles almost blinding. His iridescent hair was spread across his shoulders, blue eyes glimmering.

Leland's own eyes widened. Of course, like everyone else he knew Jack was pretty, but those thoughts were simple-minded. He was more than pretty. He was beautiful, stunning, gorgeous… an angel that had graced him with his presence. After so long of being alone, finally, finally there was someone he was willing to give it all for. His dearest friend, his fellow prince, his closest confidant… Jackie had him in a trance, a poor sailor caught in a siren's song.

Oh, how he wanted this moment to last forever. There was no one else he'd rather be with.

The song finished. Jack stepped away, still wearing that cheerful grin. Leland just stood there, his heart thumping.

"Wow, that was fun!" Jack clapped. "Let's do that again sometime!"

He turned away, walking off.

"See ya, Leeloo!" he waved.

"Wait, Jackie…!" Leland croaked.

"Hmm?" Jack turned back.

"You're… you're not coming tonight?" Leland asked.

"Sorry, Leeloo," Jack sighed. "My parents insist that I attend a wake. Next time for sure!"

Leland's throat tightened up. What could he possibly say? So instead, he watched his best friend leave the room, leaving him starstruck.

He sighed. He was not looking forward to tonight. Not because of the dancing, but because the suitors would not have a chance against Prince Jack.
