Humanity sat in silence after their champion, Lancelot, was slain in battle. Guinevere wept as she watched her lover die in front of her. Sir Gallahad lets his tears flow after losing his father.
Ector sniffled, then chuckled, "Heh, at least the lad went out like a true hero."
Gawain said with a bit of guilt in his voice.
"I agree. The man died an honorable death."
Percival sighed, "I was a fool to hold a grudge against him. I'm sorry, Lancelot."
King Arthur rose to his feet and drew Excalibur as he spoke.
"Men, draw your swords. Let us give our brother a proper send-off."
In unison, the knights of the Round Table raised their swords in tribute to their fallen friend.
King Arthur emits, "Lancelot, my friend, you have fought courageously till the end. May you finally rest."
The knights say, "Here, here."
As they did this, at the gods' section of the arena stalls, gods laughed and mocked the humans for losing the first match.
"Foolish humans! You will never win against us!"
"Grovel at our feet! Hahaha!"
"Did you think you have a chance against us? Hah!"
"Offer sacrifice!"
"OBEY!"
"Beg, and we may show you mercy!"
Hearing the jeering from the gods, Goll cried, "How could they be so heartless! They're acting like spoilt brats!"
Brunhilde said nothing as she walked away. Goll sees this and decides to follow her. Hera, however, glared menacingly at the gods' side. When Zeus saw his wife fuming, he smiled cockily and winked at her. Hera hissed as she cracked the stone railings with her bare hands.
As Erlang Shen stands over the partial corpse of Lancelot, Heimdall walks towards the sage to escort him out of the arena.
"Come on, Master Shen, the exit is this way."
Without a word, he walked away and is led by Heimdall. Heimdall looks over his shoulder and sees Erlang Shen's face with sorrow.
'Poor guy, didn't want to kill that human and now is filled with regret. Honestly, I don't blame him.'
Then Shen hears a cracking sound coming from behind him.
Meanwhile, Goll manages to catch up with Brunhilde in the corridors of the arena.
Goll spoke while walking with her sister.
"Geez, sis, you didn't have to walk off like that. Anyway, what's next for Lancelot and Hrist? They sure took a beating, heh.
Brunhilde said coldly, "What's next? What a foolish question."
Goll questions, "What do you mean?"
Back in the arena, the audience was speechless as they witnessed the body of Lancelot glow and starting to break. Not only that, but Hrist is kneeling beside the fallen champion with her body breaking as well.
Erlang tries to ask for forgiveness but only mutters, "Hrist...I..."
The valkyrie looked up at Shen and gave a warm smile of genuine kindness.
Lancelot and Hrist then shattered into primordial dust. Shen watches as the dust drifts up into the sky and never returns.
Back in the corridors, Brunhilde explains the meaning of Ragnarok.
"This is a war of souls, Goll. When a soul dies, there is no second chance or reincarnation. They instead go to Niflhel."
Goll uttered, "Niflhel?"
Brunhilde answered, "The complete termination of the soul. They become dust in the universe. There is no next."
Goll stops as she realizes what her sister meant when Brunhilde told Hrist to offer herself.
Goll cried out, "Why...Why are you so calm about this? We'll never see Hrist again! Do you even care that this is the last time we'll ever see her again?! How can you be so heartless!"
Brunhilde stopped for a moment.
"Heartless?"
She turned to Goll and yelled, "Do you think we can beat the gods without taking risks?! She knew the sacrifice that she was willing to make, Goll!"
Goll breaks out in tears as she cries, "Are you really going to go this far to win some stupid challenge?"
Brunhilde walks away from Goll while saying, "The hope of humanity rests on our shoulders. We must do what is necessary to win."
Brunhilde leaves Goll in mourning as she prepares to select the next representative in round 2.
Meanwhile, Erlang Shen left the arena, and at the gods' entrance, he started to break down. Hrist's death in front of him tore at his heart.
"Lancelot...Hrist, I'm so sorry."
Suddenly, Yaoji, Hachiman, and Muerte see the protector god on his knee in complete despair.
Princess Yaoji ran towards her son to comfort him.
Erlang muttered, "Mother...I tried to save them. I...I..."
Princess tried to soothe her son's pain in his heart.
"Shhhh. It's okay, Yang Jian. I know you tried, my son."
Hachiman cried some out.
"But I failed! Goll, Brunhilde, the others will hate me! I'm a disgrace."
Hachiman walked up and gave Shen some encouragement.
"You're not a disgrace, Master Shen. You were honorable to that knight and believed in humanity. You have nothing to be ashamed of."
However, the menacing voice of Huitzilopochtli disagrees with the sentiments.
"Hehehe! Well, well, if it isn't the knight killer, Erlang Shen? Having yourself a little cry, boy?"
The group sees the wretched sun god in the entranceway walking towards them.
Princess Yaoji told him off.
"Leave my son alone, Huitzilopochtli!"
Huitzilopochtli merely cackles, "Or what? You'll hit me with herbs! Heh, you four are so useless. We have a war god who values peace over war, a healing goddess that bared a bastard, say bastard failed to do his job, and you."
Huitzilopochtli looks at Santa Muerte as he says this.
"Such a disgrace. You abandoned your pantheon, and for what? To live among the humans and wear such a silly outfit. Tell me, sister, is it worth turning your back on your family."
Santa Muerte glared at her brother and hissed, "You damn right it was."
Huitzilopochtli chuckles at the statement.
"Your defiance is pathetic, but it doesn't matter. Now will you excuse me; I must prepare."
Hachiman says, in a blunt tone, "You must be fighting in the second round, aren't you?"
Huitzilopochtli grinned, "Of course! Unlike that crying welp over there. I'll show you how a real god slaughters humanity!"
Then he felt his shoulder tapped on and turned to see Zeus waving and smiling.
"Hey, old man. Come to wish me luck on my match?"
Zeus chuckles, "Oh no, I haven't come to wish you luck because you won't fight in the second round."
The announcement shocked Hachiman, Yaoji, Shen, and especially Huitzilopochtli. Santa Muerte, on the other hand, was snickering in the background.
"Huitzilopochtli growled, "What?! You can't do this to me, Zeus! I'm already thirsty for violence, and we agree that I get the second round. So I'll be damned to give up this opportunity!"
Zeus said again, more blunt this time, "You're not fighting in the second round."
Huitzilopochtli breathed out steam from his mouth, then chuckled, "Okay, old man. I know you're old, all, but don't think I won't challenge you!"
Zeus says again with his yellow eyes glowing menacingly, "You're not fighting in the second round."
Huitzilopochtli's body heats up, and red steam comes out of him. His maddening red eyes glow as he towers over the supreme god. However, Zeus was unfazed and stared daggers at Huitzilopochtli. Finally, the war god gives up, and his body and eyes cool off.
"Hmph, Fine! So I guess you're taking my place."
Zeus resumes his upbeat demeanor and says, "Oh no. I already have an opponent in mind for myself. Instead, I found a replacement curiosity of the brother, Hades."
Huitzilopochtli questions, "Well, who is it?"
Zeus says mischievously, "I'll have to wait and see. Now, come on and leave the boy alone."
With that, Zeus and Huitzilopochtli from the group before Huitzilopochtli glares at Santa Muerte one more time and walk away.
Humanity's Selection Room
Brunhilde accesses the Akashic Record to select the next representative of humanity.
Brunhilde says, "Round one of Ragnarok has ended. So instead of dwelling on our failure, we must continue in the next round. We'll select our next champion for round two."
Goll was sitting in the corner of the room in a fetal position.
She said sadly, "What the point? Lancelot was the greatest knight, but he failed. So who can defeat the gods?"
Before Brunhilde could answer, the door burst open and caught the sisters' attention. Standing at the doorway was none other than Hera. Her expression was nothing but anger and embarrassment. She enters the room and walks menacingly towards Brunhilde.
"Lancelot will win the first round, you said. He's the greatest knight ever, you said. He won't lose, you SAID! But guess what, HE'S LOST!" Hera ranted.
Brunhilde tries to explain herself, "I made a miscalculation. I'm sure our next representative will-"
Hera interrupts Brunhilde.
"You're not going to pick our next representative! I will. I'll be damned if I'm letting you screw up again, valkyrie!"
Brunhilde and Hera stared at each other in intensity. Goll became uncomfortable with the tension in the room. Finally, what could've gone for hours; Brunhilde sighs.
"Very well, Lady Hera," Brunhilde said, gesturing at the records. Hera calms herself as she walks to the files on the screen.
As she scrolled through the files, Hera said confidently, "Do not worry, dear valkyries. I will find us the perfect human for round two."
Goll rolled her eyes and said sarcastically, "Oh sure, I bet you have someone perfect in mind."
Hera finally stopped on a file that she wanted.
"Actually, I do."
Hera opens the file and displays the picture that shook Brunhilde and Goll to the core.
Brunhilde gasped, "I-It can't be!"
Hera turns her head and smiles smugly her the eldest valkyrie.
"Oh yes. You're not the only one who is up to date with humanity. This human has cheated death and has stuck it the gods ever since. So how about we bet on the first immortal?"
As Goll walks to where Brunhilde was, and gasps over Hera's choice.
"Is that File Codename: Alpha?!"
Valhalla Arena
Once again, Heimdall is in the spotlight as he prepares to declare the next matchup as the arena was clean and prep.
Heimdall announces, "And we're back! In round one, Erlang Shen, despite his noble attempts to spare humanity, ultimately had to put down Sir Lancelot. With the gods 1-0 over mankind, the stakes are higher than ever! With the arena cleaned up by the divine, it's time to move on to round two!"
The gods' side of the arena bellowed in arrogance.
"Hahaha! The next human will fall just like the last one!"
"This match will be over in seconds!"
However, humanity's side roared back in defiance of their makers.
"Bring it on!"
"We're not dead yet!"
"Our next champion will win this!"
As the noise settled, Heimdall prepared the announced humanity's next champion.
"Now, introducing the fighter for humanity! May he bring light to humanity's darkest hour!"
The watcher points to the eastern gates as they open and lets out cyan magical energy.
"There have always been three guardians of humanity! First was none other the Adam, the father who rebelled against his creator and brought forth humankind. Then was Prometheus, the provider who brought the flames of hope to humanity. Finally came this man who taught humans throughout the ages."
As Heimdall announces this, the magical energy swirl around the arena and displays images for both god and man alike to see. They display a man who sailed the Baltic Seas, wandered the battlefield, and more.
"His origin lost to times, and without a home, he traveled and taught humanity the meaning of culture and benevolence. His quest to ensure humanity's enlightenment took him here to heaven! If anyone can shame the gods, it's this man!"
The magical energy dissipates, and the audience sees a middle-aged man in the arena. He wears a red tailcoat, white buttoned shirt, black vest and trousers, round-framed glasses, and a velvet Capitano hat. He has fair skin, blue eyes, white hair, and a mustache accompanied by a goatee.
The human section of the arena gasped as they knew who this man could be.
One woman says, "Wait, could it be? Y-yes, it's really him!"
Heimdall prepares to finish the introduction.
"Everyone, please welcome the First Immortal of Humanity and Teacher of the ages!"
The human race stands in respect of their champion while the gods revile in both shock and fury.
"The Count of Saint Germain!"
As Heimdall finish, Germain takes off his hat and bows mockingly to the gods.
He rose and said in a tone fitting of a gentleman, "My, isn't this interesting."
Second Representative of Humanity
The Count of Saint Germain
FILE CODENAME: Alpha
The human cheered for the count while the gods were incensed beyond belief.
"What is he doing here?"
"He did he get into Heaven!"
"This is madness!"
In the VIP section of the gods, Aphrodite muses over Saint Germain.
"So this is Saint Germain? I must say he's rather handsome."
Zeus stroked his beard and grinned.
"It seems my wife pulled some strings to get him here. Isn't that right, Hermes?"
Hermes answered, "It seems so, Lord Zeus."
Heimdall then Exclaims in his horn, "Oh my, it seems the first immortal appearance has enraged the gods. So who is willing to slay the impossible? Let's see if this demon has anything to say about it!"
Upon the balcony on the humans' side, Goll questions, "Wait, demon? I thought Huitzilopochtli was supposed to fight in round two."
Hera looked perplexed and a bit nervous.
Heimdall then points to the west gates in the arena, and the gates open, and smoke begins to flow through.
Heimdall begins to introduce Germain's opponent.
"When there is the sun, there is the moon. Where there's life, there's death. Where there is restoration, there is DESTRUCTION!"
Suddenly, the arena shakes with the sounds the footsteps. The humans didn't know what was going on, especially Goll.
Goll shrieks, "Hera, Sis, Why is the ground shaking?! I'm scared!"
"This demon knows all about destruction! Leader of the Fomorians, he carved a path of desolation whenever his evil eye opens! His mercilessness has earned him a place in Hades's Governing Council!"
Soon a group of succubi in provocative police uniforms emerge from the gates and await the count's rival.
"He is the warden of Helheim! The Demon of the End! The Eye of Destruction!"
Finally, entering the arena was a monstrous, demonic being. It was red with a muscular scaly body. The beast has a dragon-like head with obsidian-like teeth, horns of a bull, and a black eyepatch over his right eye. He wore a belt harness around his chest and a long loincloth on his waist.
"BALOR!"
Heimdall finishes his announcement, and Balor is only met with half cheers and murmurs. The demon crackled to their conflicting nature and entered the arena. As Balor walked toward his opponent, the succubi kissed Balor on the cheek as they made their leave. The humans were terrified of this god, no, beast coming towards Germain. Saint Germain looks up and sees the giant demon looming over him with a wicked grin.
Second God Representative
Balor (Helheim)
Balor begins to speak in a rough, aged voice.
"Oi laddy, you made a big mistake coming to heaven. Are you afraid, little bastard?"
Germain chuckled as she said to Balor, "Afraid? I wouldn't come here if I was afraid of some brute."
As the gods and humanity held their breath, the ultimate battle between Immortality and Inevitability had begun!
