The duel computer randomly selected which player would start.

"Looks like Sora will be taking the first turn!" Shuzo announced.

"Alright then," Sora replied. "First, I send Fluffal Bear from my hand to add Toy Vendor from my deck! Then, I activate it!" A capsule machine shaped like a mechanical frog materialized behind him. "Now, I discard Fusion Conscription so that I can draw a card - and if it's a Fluffal monster, I can Special Summon from my hand! I drew Fluffal Wings, so I'll summon Edge Imp Chain from my Hand!" A twisted bike chain with a set of glowing red eyes appeared on the field.

"Ready?" Sora grinned. The audience members all winced, knowing what was coming next. "I activate Polymerization to fuse Fluffal Wings with Edge Imp Chain! I Fusion Summon... Frightfur Daredevil!" His two monsters dissolved into trails of light that swirled together, forming a sinister plush creature resembling a cartoon devil, covered in stitches and with a spiked chain wrapped around it like a tail. Worse, it boasted 3000 attack points.

"And if you think that's scary," Sora went on, "sending Chain to the Graveyard allows me to add a Frightfur card from my deck to my hand. I'll add Frightfur Factory." He made a mock contemplative pose.

"Hmm... I haven't even Normal Summoned yet, have I? I'll set this other monster and end my turn."

Yuzu took a deep breath as she drew her new card.

"Okay... first, since I control no monsters, I can activate 1st Movement Solo! This lets me Special Summon a level 4 or lower Melodious monster from my hand or deck! I summon Aria the Melodious Diva! After she's Special Summoned, she protects all Melodious monsters on the field from being targeted by effects and destroyed by battle. Next, since I now control a Melodious monster, I Special Summon Canon the Melodious Diva from my hand! And now I Normal Summon Soprano the Melodious Songstress! She allows me to Fusion Summon by using her and other monsters I control as materials. So I use Soprano and Canon to Fusion Summon Schuberta the Melodious Maestra!"

A blue-skinned woman in an ornate music-themed dress materialized on the field.

"Now for her effect," Yuzu went on. "I can banish up to three monsters from either graveyard and Schuberta gains 200 attack for each! I'll banish my Canon and your Wings and Chain! Schuberta's attack points increase to 3000 just like your Frightfur Daredevil - but thanks to Aria, only your monster will be destroyed when they battle! Schuberta, attack!" Schuberta made a sonic wave that tore Daredevil to bits, which rained down around the field.

"Sending Frightfur Daredevil to the graveyard deals you 500 damage," Sora said. Yuzu's life points became 3500 but she seemed unfazed.

"I set one more card and end my turn," Yuzu smirked. Sora scowled. Though he didn't know if Yuzu realized it, her move had not only gotten rid of his monster, but by banishing Fluffal Wings from his graveyard she'd also ruined his backup plan. He drew his next card. When he saw it, it was his turn to smirk.

"I activate my Frightfur Factory! Now I can Fusion Summon a Frightfur monster by banishing Polymerization from my graveyard! I fuse the Fluffal Octopus in my hand with my set Edge Imp Frightfuloid into Frightfur Cruel Whale!"

A huge stuffed orca appeared in the arena. Then blades burst out of its midsection, like a twisted idea of ribs, and its mouth, like a set of horrid metal fangs. One more blade shot up from its back to be its dorsal fin. A tear split open its neck, revealing another mouth full of razor-sharp teeth with red eyes glowing from within.

"Octopus and Whale's effects both activate," Sora explained. "Octopus lets me take two banished monsters and put them back in my graveyard, so Wings and Chain are back! Whale allows me to destroy a card on either side of the field – without targeting them. So, although I'll have to give up my own Frighfur Factory, that means bye-bye Aria!" Whale's blades shot out, half flying backwards and slicing up Sora's Frightfur Factory, while she other half flew at Aria. She barely had time to gasp before she was run through. Yuzu stepped back in shock.

"Hang in there, Yuzu!" Yuya called. "You've still got the field advantage!"

"Well, I'm not done yet," said Sora. "Now that Fluffal Wings is back in my graveyard, I can banish it again along with Octopus to draw a card. Also, I can send my Toy Vendor to the graveyard to draw another card! And on top of that, my Toy Vendor's last effect allows me to add Fluffal Mouse to my hand. And that's not all! By sending another Frighfur fusion monster from my extra deck to the graveyard, I add half of its attack to Whale's attack for this turn! If I send Frightfur Chimera, then Whale's attack points increase from 2600 to 4000! Now, Whale, attack!" Frightfur Cruel Whale dove into the water around the island and began floating toward Yuzu's side of the field. Yuzu turned and ran for an action card.

"Schuberta!"

Schuberta picked up Yuzu and tossed her up to the top of one the giant piles of candy scattered around the arena. Yuzu reach out for a card hanging over the edge...

Frightfur Cruel Whale burst out of the water, knocking Yuzu and the candy aside as it lunged at Schuberta. It slammed down onto her mouth-first and swallowed her whole before launching itself back into the water. Yuzu fell to the ground and her life points fell to 2500.

"Yuzu!" Yuya cried.

"I set one more card in my spell/trap zone and end my turn," Sora said.

Yuzu pushed herself back up and drew.

"My turn! Now I don't control any monsters again, so I can activate Ostinato! This fuses two Melodious monsters from my deck! By sending Elegy the Melodious Diva and Mozarta the Melodious Maestra to the graveyard, I Fusion Summon Bloom Diva the Melodious Choir! She's indestructible! She automatically destroys any monster she battles! And then, she reflects the battle damage back at the opponent! Now Bloom Diva, wipe out that whale!"

"Unfortunately for you, I have this," Sora shouted, revealing his set card, "Breakthrough Skill! I target your monster and negate its effects until the end of the turn. The only thing that's going to be wiped out is your Bloom Diva - and with her, a huge chunk of your life points!"

"Except I also have a trap set!" Yuzu cut in. "Melodious Illusion! I target one Melodious monster I control and it becomes unaffected by my opponent's card effects until the end of turn!"

Bloom Diva flattened Cruel Whale and sent it flopping into the water. Sora reared back as his life points dropped to 2400.

"Melodious Illusion also allows my monster to attack again," Yuzu added. "Bloom Diva attacks directly!" The monster knocked Sora away and his life points down to 1400.

"Okay... okay..." Sora calmed himself as he drew.

"I summon Fluffal Mouse. It lets me summon my other two copies from my deck. Now, I activate Frightfur Fusion and banish two mice along with the Edge Imp Chain in my graveyard so I can Fusion Summon a new monster: Dangerous Frightfur Nightmary!

This new monster looked completely different from Sora's previous monsters. A giant, sinister-looking doll held together with crude stitching loomed over the field, staring down at Yuzu with blank eyes.

"Nightmary here gains 300 attack for each Fiend and Fairy in my graveyard, Sora explained. "That gives her 2900 total." Up in the stands, Yuya leaned over to Asuka.

"He does realize he still can't destroy Yuzu's monster, right?" Asuka turned to him, worried.

"Yuya, don't you know? Breakthrough Skill has another effect!"

"By banishing Breakthrough Skill from my graveyard, I can negate Diva's effects again!" Sora announced. "And this time, I have a feeling she won't be surviving! Attack, Nightmary!" The doll's hair whipped out at Bloom Diva, tossing her aside and continuing toward Yuzu. Yuzu was thrown off her feet, getting back up with only 600 life points left.

"Yuzu!" Yuya called.

"I'm not out yet!" she yelled back. She drew a card and set it on the field. "Your turn."

"I hope you weren't counting on that card," Sora shouted. "I just drew Mystical Space Typhoon. Your set card will be destroyed!"

"Not so fast!" Yuzu shouted back. "I chain my set card – Necro Fusion! I banish every monster in my graveyard as fusion material for a new monster: Bloom Prima the Meloidous Choir! She gains 300 attack points for each monster used as material to summon her. Which gives her a grand total of 3400."

"I can't attack!" Sora realized. "I... have to end my turn."

"Well, I'm attacking!" Yuzu said. "Nightmary might gain attack in your turn, but in my turn she's down to just 2000!Which means I have just enough attack..."

"To wipe out my life points." Sora looked around frantically. "I only have one chance!" He leapt off a gumdrop boulder to the top of a candy cane tree. "There! The Miracle action card! I prevent my monster from being destroyed and halve the battle damage!" He braced himself against the shockwave as the monsters clashed, his life points dropping to 1700.

"But," Yuzu smirked, "Bloom Prima can attack twice." Sora's jaw dropped, the lollipop falling from his mouth.

"...oh, yeah." Dangerous Frightfur Nightmary was hurled backwards through the air until she came crashing down on top of him. As the Real Solid Vision constructs faded away, Sora lay on the floor in shock for a moment. Then he sprang to his feet, shooting Yuzu a grin.

"You won."
