It was late at night. Sakaki was sound asleep, hugging the stuffed cat Kaorin had given her. Osaka and Chiyo were waiting cautiously to sneak out on her. They made their move and escaped to the bathroom. Osaka pulled out her mobile phone and started to text Kagura with Chiyo peering over.
"Hey Kagura"
"Hey Osaka. Is Sakaki ok?"
"Yeah, she's doing alright.
She was upset this morning
because she didn't have
anything for Chiyo-Chan's
birthday, so it could have
been that."
"It's possible. I'm going to
keep an eye on her at school
on Monday, hopefully she'll
be better then."
"Yeah, I hope so. She did tell
us she was going to visit
Kaorin on Monday."
"Oh, I see. Hopefully she'll
be ok. Gtg, I need to sleep."
"Ok, goodnight."
Osaka closed her phone to find a half asleep Chiyo resting her head on Osaka's shoulder. She picked up Chiyo and carried her to the futon, covering her with a blanket before collapsing on the bed and falling asleep.
Kagura turned off her phone and stared up at her ceiling. "I was going to ask to hang out with her on Monday. I can ask her on Tuesday, maybe she'll be free then. Augh! I have swim practice tomorrow. Shoot. Maybe Friday? There has to be sometime she can be free." She didn't like the way Sakaki was. She had always tried to be her friend, but it had always blown up in her face. She tried to make her laugh by scaring a cat, she tried challenging her to create a friendly rivalry, but none of those things worked. She rolled over and tried to sleep, still haunted by the feeling she wasn't liked.
Kaorin she was in a forest, moonlight only being seen as cracks, mostly blotted out by the trees reaching high above her, a white, luminous mist gently illuminating the forest from below. It lingered around her torso level and stretched out as far as the eye could see. She wandered, looking around her as she went. She eventually found a peaceful lake, not disturbed by the fog. She sat next to it, taking in the scenery. Across the lake, she saw the figure of a tall girl. As the figure came closer, Kaorin realised who it was. She got up to her feet, and the two stared eachother in the eye, as the tall girl came closer. Kaorin began to walk closer to her, until the tall girl extended our her hands. She touched her cheeks, and then they both lent in. "Kaori." the girl said. "Kaori." Kaorin opened her eyes to see her mom in her doorway. "Kaori, get dressed, church is in an hour." Her mother said, closing the door behind her. Kaorin rolled over, a frown forming on her face. "I always have a dream like this, and I always wake up before anything happens." She thought, before rolling over and going to get dressed.
"Hey Miss Sakaki, how did ya sleep?" Osaka asked as Chiyo bought up breakfast. "It was nice, thank you. What about yourself?" Sakaki asked, taking a sip of milk. "Ah slept real nice, like a baby! What about you, Chiyo-Chan?"
"I slept wonderfully, Miss Osaka! It was really nice to bump into Kaorin and Chihiro."
"Oh, that reminds me." Sakaki got up and went over to her bag. She walked back over to them with something behind her back.
"Happy birthday Chiyo-Chan." She pulled out the stuffed bear she had won yesterday. Chiyo's face lit up as she held it in her hands. "Thank you Miss Sakaki!"
"You're welcome, Chiyo."
"Say Sakaki, ain't you and Kaorin meeting up on Monday?"
"Oh, yeah. She told me she would sew m uniform, we had an accident and she ripped it."
"Ah well, that's real nice of her."
"Yes, Kaorin is really nice." Chiyo piped up.
The evening came fast, and it was time for Sakaki and Osaka to leave. Chiyo waved goodbye as they walked away from her house. After making some small talk, they split off on their own paths. Sakaki walked home and saw that her father's car wasn't in the driveway. She remembered he had a business trip, so he wouldn't be home for a few days. She got in, said hello to her mother, and went to her room. She unpacked her bag, and took out her plus Kaorin had given her last. She looked at it with a smile on her face, placing it on her desk. She went into her closet and pulled out her ripped uniform, putting it into her book bag. Sakaki then laid down. "There's no arguing, the weekend was fun, and I'm seeing Kaorin tomorrow." She thought to herself, smiling as she did so.
Kaorin came into her room and crawled under the covers. She checked her watch. 10:27 pm. She took her phone off of her nightstand and called her best friend. Chihiro was about to go to sleep when she heard her phone ringing. "Hello?"
"Hey, it's me."
"What's up?"
"I'm really nervous about tomorrow."
"Well, what's making you nervous about it?"
"I think it's the fact that Miss Sakaki is going to be with me, alone, for the first time. Plus she's coming to my house. I spent alot of today trying to make sure it was clean for her to come over. I'm just worried, I'm going to put her off some how."
"Kaorin, it'll be ok. You never clean when I come over, so why would she think any different because YOU feel different about her? There's nothing there that could throw her off, I've been there a hundred times. It'll be ok, just don't lose any sleep over it."
"Ok, I guess you're right. Goodnight."
"Goodnight. Sweet dreams"
"You too!"
Chihiro hung up the phone and went to sleep, Kaorin placing hers down and rolling over. She closed her eyes and fell asleep faster than before, heavily anticipating the coming day.
When Kaorin met up with Chihiro to walk to school, she was noticeably happy. Sakaki was also happy while walking with Chiyo-Chan. When Chiyo and Sakaki walked into their classroom, Kagura ran up to Sakaki. "Hey, Sakaki, how are you?"
Sakaki was surprised that Kagura had run up to her so fast. "Oh, I'm doing good, thank you. What about you?"
"I'm fine! How was your weekend?"
"It was really nice."
"That's good, haha!" Kagura walked with them to their desks, continuing to talk with them. Sakaki saw Kaorin come in, and smiled at her, causing Kaorin to smile back and turn red. "Did she look at you?" Chihiro whispered. Kaorin nodded slightly.
