Kaorin was woken up from the light shinning into her eyes from the window opposite her bed. She threw off the covers and made her bed, before advancing towards the kitchen. Just as she walked into the kitchen, there was a knock on her door. She went to go open it, and found Tomo standing there.
"Hey Kaorin!" She yelped out.
"Wha- how are you here?" Kaorin asked in astonishment. Without warning, Tomo wrapped her arms around her and pushed their lips together. Kaorin jolted up in bed, knocking her stuffed animal onto the floor. She checked her watch. 8:02am. "Shoot." she muttered to herself, before falling back onto her bed. She was still unable to fathom why Tomo of all people wanted to meet her. Picking up her phone, she decided to call Yomi. "If anyone knows what's up with her, it's Yomi." She thought.
Yomi was laying on her bed just haven woken when her mobile phone started buzzing.
"Hello, Koyomi Mizuhara speaking."
"Hey Yomi, it's me, Kaorin."
"Oh, what's up?"
"Um, well, Tomo asked to see me today...do you know why?"
"I do, but she told me not to talk about it to anyone."
"Oh, um, ok. It's..." Her voice lowered "is it anything bad?"
"No, not at all. It'll be ok. I have to get up now, I'm meeting someone later. Have fun with Tomo."
"Alright, thank you."
"Goodbye."
Kaorin heard the phone hang up, still feeling clueless about what Tomo had wanted. She then wandered into her kitchen to eat some breakfast, before she returned to her room, her mind still pondering over what it could possibly be about.
Sakaki woke up with the same melancholy feeling in her as the night before. Rolling over she tried to fall back asleep, slipping in and out of consciousness as the early hours of the day progressed. Her mind was filled with anxiety over meeting her friend and what the future would hold with her and her parents. She would snap back to reality whenever these thoughts crossed her mind, making it impossible to fall asleep. After a few hours of slipping in and out of consciousness, she finally prepared for the day ahead. She got dressed and as brushed her hair, her phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Hey, it's Yomi, are you still on for today?"
Sakaki checked her clock. 11.05am.
"I'm sorry! Yes, I am, I-I'll be out in one minute."
She ran down the stairs and grabbed her shoes before sprinting out the door to the top of her street.
"I-I'm sorry, Yomi, I'm sorry."
"It's ok, don't worry about it. Do you want to go get something to eat?"
"Sure."
The two of them progressed down the road to a coffee store.
"What can I get you two?" The barista asked the two girls.
"What do you want, Sakaki?" Yomi asked her friend.
"Oh, I'm able to... pay..." She felt around for her wallet, slowly realising she didn't have it. Her face slowly turned red and her hands began shaking.
"Hey, I'll pay for it, it's ok, don't worry." Yomi told her worried friend. She put in an order for the two of them and waited for them to be completed. They sat down at a table near the back of the shop, away from where they had ordered their food.
"I-I'll pay you back for it, I'm sorry fo-"
"It's really ok, I don't mind." Yomi said, cutting her friend off. "Are you ok? I've never seen you like that before."
"I just...I forgot my wallet is all, I normally take it with me, even if I'm not buying anything. I don't know why I didn't have it."
"Don't get so worked up over this, it wasn't that expensive, and I was already going to pay for you anyway. There's something else on your mind though, isn't there?"
Sakaki was stunned at this.
"Um, y-yeah. Kind of. How did you know?"
"You seemed off the last week of school, I didn't want to say anything incase it would make things worse. I'm here for you though, ok?"
"Thanks." Sakaki softly replied, before reaching out to her coffee to take a sip.
