Professor Ivo's Laboratory, Outside Metropolis
Lex was standing in Professor Ivo's' lab overlooking the blueprints and schematics for the AMAZO android. He was quite impressed. The android not only was a marvel of science and engineering but it also had a duplication program that allowed it to copy an
Ivo's notes theorised it could potentially copy the powers of Meta Humans and even those who came from beyond earth; like superman. Ivo's notes also stated that the android had the understanding and mentality of a child, as well as the naivety of one as well; but also had the potential to grow if it was looked after and given proper time to mature.
Lex grinned, his first impression of the android was that it was a threat however it showed a strange gentleness towards the Ivo's deceased body and the fact that it didn't understand the concept of death and was scared for its future without the Professor told Luthor all he needed.
It had not taken long or very much persuasion to convince the android to help him; in fact, it had barely taken a few kind words and promise to look after the machine was all it took to secure its loyalty.
Luthor looked up when he heard the door open and he saw the AMAZO android walk into the room, he raised an eyebrow at the newly acquired set of wings on its back and the familiar-looking mace in its hand.
He grinned. It appeared that Professor Ivo was right and his duplication program worked like a charm.
AMAZO walked over to Luthor and handed him the stolen canister.
"Ah I see you had a run-in with Hawkgirl," Luthor commented.
"Girl with wings, yes she tried to stop me from taking this,"
"Well that wasn't very nice of her was it," Luthor patronised.
"She was mean,"
"She is a bit of a bully isn't she," Luthor agreed.
"Bully?" AMAZO asked.
"Someone who hurts others because they can," Luthor explained, "did you hurt anyone getting this?"
"No,"
"Then yes Girl with wings is a bully,"
"I broke a door though and started a fire," AMAZO continued, Luthor could hear the regret in the android's voice.
"Ah well accidents happen I suppose," Luthor assured "As long as you learn from your mistakes that is what is important. Since you got away with the fuel, I'm guessing Hawkgirl didn't fare too well against you. Did you kill her?"
"No, Ivo said killing is bad," the android stated.
Lex frowned, it appeared that the android was not going to be as easy to manipulate as he through. He didn't plan on Ivo teaching it the difference between right and wrong.
"Did I do something bad?" Amazo asked upon seeing Luthor's face.
"no," Luthor responded "Come let me tell you a story,"
Luthor led AMAZO over to the window and put his hands in his pocket and looked up towards the sky.
"Once upon a time there was a great man who built up a vast empire, he used his empire to better all mankind providing them innovative technology that made their lives easier,"
"I like this man," the android chimed in.
"I do too," Luthor agreed with a smile. "one day this man herd about a powerful individual named Superman. Superman was from another world, one beyond the stars,"
"There are worlds beyond the stars?" Amazo asked in childlike innocence and wonder.
"Oh yes, many many worlds. Even I do not know how many there are," Luthor claimed. He paused for a moment to look at the night sky and took a breath before continuing.
"Now Superman's world was no more, he was the last and only survivor of his people. He was alone, in a strange and foreign world that was not his own. When the great man learned of this, he reached out to help Superman. Offering him friendship and his help,"
"Did Superman accept it?"
"No, he didn't. Superman scorned the offer of the great man. He rejected the friendship and later returned with other powerful friends and together they tore down the man's vast empire. Everything that the great man had built crumbled into dust until he was left with nothing,"
"Did the man go to sleep like the Professor?"
"No, Superman and his Super friends spared the man they had conquered. The took the man's empire and gave it to someone else to run…someone who would do what Superman wanted,"
"Then what happened,"
"nothing, Superman and his friends became heroes and the great man"
"But where's the happy ending?" Amazo asked "the professor said all stories always have a happy ending,"
"Unfortunately, this story isn't over yet," Luthor explained "the great man in the story is me of course and Superman and his friends are preventing me from taking back what is rightfully mine,"
"I know this will be hard to understand but if I don't take back what is mine then the bad guys will win and this time Superman and his Justice League, will make sure I go to sleep and never wake up either,"
"No, you can't go to sleep. You have to take care of me, that's what you said,"
"I did and I will do my best to protect you from the Justice League. However, if we do nothing that is how this story will end,"
Amazo looked down in sadness "I don't like that ending,"
"I don't either, so what's say we change it?"
"how?"
"If the Justice League were to…say go to sleep themselves," Luthor said with a smug tone "then there would be no one to stop me from taking back what is mine. And in time when I grow old and weary, I would like to pass on my empire to you. The son I never had,"
To emphasise the point Luthor put his hand on the android's shoulder.
"Grow old," AMAZO asked.
"yes, Humans age with time and we ger tired. However, it's not a bad thing it just means we are ready for the next stage of our lives. Whether that be starting a family, settling down or the passing of an empire onto the next generation," Luthor claimed "Once my empire is mine again, I will teach you everything I know,"
Amazo stared at Luthor for a moment and then looked back out the window.
"I like this ending better," he commented.
"Me to son, me too," Luthor agreed with a very dangerous smile on his face.
Metropolis Rooftops
"So let me get this straight, this silver man walked out of the fire, holding a stolen canister of fuel and it somehow grew wings and a mace," Flash asked.
"Yes, they just morphed out of him,"
"I bet it was a T-1000," Flash said snapping his fingers "you sure your name's Shayera and not John Connor?"
"Really Terminator Jokes?" green lantern asked.
Flash merely shrugged with a smile on his face and Green Lantern sighed.
"You want to know what the real scary part was,"
"There's more?" Wonder woman asked.
"Whoever that silver man was he could mimic my moves, the longer we fought the more it felt like I was fighting a mirror," Hawkgirl said "and it got stronger like it was learning my fighting style as we were fighting,"
"You're just adding to my terminator theory you know that right," Flash added.
"So, what do we do if we see it again?" Wonder Woman asked.
"take it down fast," Green Lantern said.
"You can count on me for that," Flash said proudly.
Green lantern noticed something in the corner of his eye and walked over to the edge of the rooftop. He stared at one of the tv screens that was playing the news on the front of a large building.
"This silver man wouldn't happen to be about 10ft tall with yellow eyes would it?" Green Lantern asked.
"How did you know?" Hawkgirl responded.
"Because he's all over the news," Green Lantern said and pointed to the tv screen.
The rest of the league came over and saw AMAZO on screen.
"Oh good, I'm ready for a rematch," Hawkgirl said eagerly.
Hawkgirl, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern flew towards the Android with Flash zooming behind them. When they arrived, they charged in, at first, they'd hoped this mysterious grey man would lead them to Luthor, but it had quickly become a threat that the League had to abandon their search for the evil genius and focus their efforts on taking down the mysterious robot.
However, that proved to be easier said and done as the Justice League had very quickly learned that the android had the ability to copy their powers and fighting styles simply by looking at them.
"You could have warned me it was as strong as me," Wonder Woman shot at Hawkgirl as she was blown back by a powerful blow.
"It wasn't that strong before," Hawkgirl assured.
Next Flash ran in and at first, he was able to run circles around the Android however Amazo stared at Flash and his eyes glowed as it copied the speedsters speed. It then used it and combined with Wonder Woman strength and Hawkgirl's mace made quick work of Flash, Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl.
As it approached the downed Justice League members Green Lantern knocked it back with a powerful energy beam. It took a second for Amazo to regain his senses and when he looked up to see Green Lantern floating above him, the robot's eyes glowed again and a power ring shape formed on its finger. Amazo raised its hand and a green bean shot out at Green lantern.
"How the hell does it have all our powers?" Flash moaned.
"It doesn't it's duplicating our them," Green Lantern realised "it's copying us and likely out fighting styles too,"
"Wait, you're saying the more we fight it the stronger it gets?" Flash asked.
"Exactly,"
"Someone better tell Sups to stay away," Flash said before he charged back into the fray.
Unfortunately, now that Amazo had a majority of the Justice league's powers and was using them in a very effective way, he was easily able to outmatch the real justice league. Green Lantern called Batman and Superman waring them both to stay away.
However, Superman did not heed the warning and flew to aid his friends, armed with the knowledge that his opponent could copy his abilities the first thing superman did was strike from behind and use a metal sheet to cover the android's eyes; sealing it with his heat vision and pummelled it with his vast strength.
This worked up until Amazo was able to catch Superman and throw him off him, giving the android a chance to rip off the metal blindfold, the moment it came off Amazo looked at Superman and its eyes glowed and an S like shape appeared on its chest.
"Hera help us," Wonder Woman gasped as she realised that the android now had all but J'onn's and Alucard's powers.
"She'd better because we are in serious trouble," Green Lantern said in a very serious tone.
The league charged in with all there might need to end the threat of Amazo before it completely realised how to use Superman's powers, however, thanks to its newly acquired invulnerability and extra speed it shrugged off the leagues' attempts to bring it down. Superman was the only one strong enough to actually do some damage however thanks to flash Amazo was now faster than him and easily used that to his advantage. Though Superman was able to knock the android down to a rooftop building.
It was at this point that Batman entered the battle. He landed on the rooftop that Amazo was on and walked towards the Android.
"Batman stay back, he's copied everyone's powers. Your no match for him," Superman warned.
"No, you stay back, I'll take care of our robot problem," Batman said, gaining Amazo attention.
Batman stopped in front of the robot and Amazo looked at him with glowing eyes, however once the glow stopped the robot seemed perplexed.
"You don't have any powers," the android stated confused. It was like the idea of a member of the Justice league with no powers was a forging concept to him.
"No, I don't," Batman agreed.
"I don't understand, how can you fight with no powers? How do you stand amongst them," Amazo asked and gestured with a hand to the rest of the league "when they are strong and you are weak?"
"You think me not having powers makes me weak?" Batman asked with a raised eyebrow. He wasn't offended that the robot thought he was weak; he was more interested in why he thought he was weak. Had this machine never once considered that a person didn't need physical strength to be powerful or that the mind could be a far greater power than physical strength.
"Doesn't it?" Amazo asked tilting his head.
"Did Luthor tell you I was weak?" Batman asked.
"No, I really should not be talking to you, he said the Justice League was bad,"
"Ah that explains it," Batman said in understating. Batman knew that Luthor believed that Might was Right and since he was a very powerful and influential person. After all, Luthor had not long-ago underestimated Batman and it had proved to be his undoing.
Batman had got more information about Luthor and a possible lead on his location simply by conversing with the android.
"As far as villains go, your interesting I'll give you that," Batman said.
"villain?"
"Bad guys,"
"But I'm not a bad guy, you and the Justice League are the bad guys,"
"Which is why I will give you this one chance, surrender to us now and tell us where Luthor is or I will take you down,"
"You, with your lack of powers?" the android asked surprised "and how do you plan on doing that?"
"With this," Batman said and he pulled out a bright glowing green rock.
Amazo looked at it and he suddenly began to feel his strength failing him, he could barely stand and he did his best to back away but it was like his body had suddenly become weak.
"Tell me android, were you programmed with fear?" Batman asked as he kept up with Amazo who was trying to crawl away.
"How…what's happing to me?" Amazo panicked.
"It's simple really, you took our powers but that's not all you got," Batman explained "You also took all our weakness and they affect you as they would us,"
"No…that…that can't be,"
"So where is Luthor?" Batman asked is a dark voice. Amazo didn't answer, his eyes widened as he was very quickly succumbing to the new sensation of fear and it was all being caused by the man above him. The man with no powers and one he had deemed not a threat. Amazo was now backed up against the edge of the building and there was nowhere left to run he looked around, desperate for a way out but seeing none he did the only thing he could.
He flung himself off the building and into a storm drain below, there was water running through it and Amazo was unsure whether he would survive the fall or not. All he knew was he had to get away from Batman because Batman equalled fear.
"So, he can feel fear and has survival instincts…interesting," Batman said as he put the kryptonite away in his bat belt and looked down at the storm drain.
Hawkgirl landed beside him. "So, do you always carry kryptonite around?" she asked.
"Yes, among other things," Batman answered before heading off into the city.
"And they say I'm the scary one," Hawkgirl muttered.
The league headed down to the storm drain to try and follow the android, Green Lantern searched in the running water, Superman and Wonder Woman flew further downstream to see if they could catch him while Flash raced upstream and Batman and Hawkgirl remained where they were.
After half an hour of searching, they regrouped.
"Find anything?" Batman asked.
"Nothing downstream," Superman answered.
"He didn't go back upstream and back into the city either," Flash supplied.
"I didn't see him in the water, he's gone," Green Lantern finished.
"Well at least we know he has some connection to Luthor," Batman sighed "That's something,"
"How do you know that?" Wonder Woman asked.
"He confirmed it while we were talking," Batman answered "he didn't say where Luthor was but I now have a pretty good idea on where he will most likely be,"
"Where?" Hawkgirl asked.
"Does the name Professor Ivo ring a bell?" Batman asked superman.
"Yeah, he's the guy who helped make and design Luthor's original super suit," Superman answered.
"He was also fired from Lex crop six months ago," Batman claimed "we should pay him a visit,"
"Uh, why?" Flash asked.
"He specialises in robotics and nanotechnology," Batman said.
"So, what does that have to do with Luthor?" Hawkgirl asked.
"Ivo was fired and immediately after Lex disappears a robot that can copy all our powers shows up who knows Luthor and none of you see a connection?"
"you got all that from exchanging a few words with a robot?" Flash asked impressed. Batman nodded.
"I suppose it wouldn't hurt to check," Green lantern agreed. He was not going to disagree with Batman.
"We'll go pay Ivo a visit," Superman said and he took off with Green Lantern.
"I'll keep searching along the storm drain downstream," Wonder Woman said and she also flew off but in the opposite direction to Superman.
"We should also check the sewers, he could avoid us easily in there," Batman stated and he and Hawkgirl looked at Flash.
"Yeah, you know what…maybe Sups and GL will need a hand," Flash said sheepishly and immediately zoomed off to follow Superman.
Batman sighed and looked at Hawkgirl.
"you know I can't fly in the sewers right," Hawkgirl pointed out.
"Don't care, you're coming with me,"
"And why would I do that?"
"Because Kryptonite isn't the only thing, I keep in my Bat belt," Batman warned in a dark tone.
Hawkgirl blinked at the implication.
"So which entrance are we using," she asked quickly.
Professor Ivo's Laboratory, Outside Metropolis
Superman, Flash and Green lantern were standing in front of what remained of Professor Ivo's home, it was a surprisingly large mansion on the outskirts of the city since it was outside city limits it had a country feel to it and vas open fields with windmills and other ways of harnessing natural energy. It also bordered on a National Park so there was a woodland boundary.
All in all, it was a very nice place.
When the league had arrived, the mansion had been on fire, Superman had kicked the door down and Flash had zoomed in looking for the professor, however, there was no one in the house. Superman and Green Lantern had put out the fire together while Flash had saved the Professors' research.
Once the fire was out and Flash had saved all he could Superman and green Lantern began going through the files while Flash volunteered to look around to see if he could find professor Ivo or anything that would give them a clue as to how the fire started.
As Flash looked around, he found a small fresh mound with an arm sticking out of it.
"Guys," He called back to his friends, "I think I found something,"
Superman and Green Lantern immediately came around to the back of the house, upon seeing
"It's not Luthor, it must be Professor Ivo," Superman said "Someone must have buried him. Likely Luthor or the android,"
"The mound is fresh, it's couldn't have been dug more than an hour ago…maybe two," Flash said as he observed the mound. "I think Luthor buried him before he set fire to the house,"
"How do you know it was him?"
"Well, we were fighting the android at the time so it couldn't have been him. IF Luthor and Ivo were connected and he was here it would make sense, plus if he didn't want us to make the connection between him, the android and Ivo wouldn't it make sense to leave no evidence?"
"That's true," Green Lantern agreed "Think Luthor killed Ivo?"
"Not his style, Luthor is many things but he's not wasteful," Superman defended "it's more than likely that Ivo was more useful alive than dead,"
Flash immediately zoomed around the mound and when he stopped, he stopped the body of Professor Ivo was exposed. Flash examined the body looking for any signs what caused his death.
"Supes is right, Luthor didn't kill this man," Flash announced.
"How can you be sure?" Green Lantern asked.
"There are no signs of struggle or injuries that would indicate he was murdered," Flash claimed "His skin has been exposed to the elements if this is Ivo, he's been dead for at least over a week,"
"Then how did he die?"
"Hmm…don't know, my guess would be a heart attack or lung cancer," Flash guessed.
Superman's eyes glowed blue for a second and he scanned the corpse's chest. His lungs were filled with some
"Flash is right, it's lung cancer, I can see it," Superman said and his eyes went back their normal colour.
"How did you know he was a smoker?" Green Lantern asked.
"This was in his pocket," Flash said and held up a box of cigarettes "Given his age, I'd say it was either the cigarettes or the stress of working for Luthor,"
"Since when did you become such an expert in dead bodies?" Green Lantern asked suspiciously.
"I like to watch crime dramas," Flash claimed "You know, CSI, Chicago Med, Law, and Order. That kind of thing,"
"You know those are fictional right?"
"Well yeah, but they do get actual detectives and forensics to advise on the show. So, it's not all fiction," Flash pointed out.
"Let's get back to the files," Superman suggested "flash Rebury Ivo properly,"
Flash nodded and in under a minute he had dug a fresh grave, reburied Ivo and lay flowers, it was much nicer than the mound they had found the professor in. Flash then joined Superman and Green Lantern in going through the files.
"Well, well look what I found," Green Lantern said and held up some blueprints. the Letters A.M.A.Z.O above a picture of a very familiar Android.
"Is that the Terminator?" Flash asked.
"No, it's the android, looks like it's called Amazo," Green Lantern claimed "Ivo programmed it, to…. oh dear,"
"What?" Superman asked as he picked up a file on the Amazo android.
"He programmed it to be able to copy and mimic any meta-human ability,"
"How is that even possible?" Flash asked.
"Looks like it's made out of nanotechnology and has got some program that allows it to duplicate powers and weapons of others by morphing its body into new and different shapes," Superman stated as he looked through the file in his hands.
"You know who that sounds like," Flash asked eagerly.
"Oh, for the…. It's not a terminator," Green lantern yelled.
"and it appears Ivo was a big fan of Terminator Two and it influenced his work," Superman continued "according to this he even re-named his WIFI Skynet,"
Flash turned to look at Green Lantern "you were saying?" he asked.
"Okay fine, the android is a terminator. Happy?"
"Very, hey think we can get it to say I'll be back?" Flash asked.
"Remind me why you are on the team again?" Green lantern groaned.
"You know we should show Alucard the Terminator films," Superman suggested, "Think he might like them?"
"I think you might scare him off technology altogether," Green Lantern responded "Or convince him the computers are possessed again,"
None of them noticed that they were being watched by Amazo, when it had returned Amazo had been afraid that not only had the Justice League had found Lex, but he had been caught in the fire as well. However, listing to the Justice League had proven that the genius was not in the building.
Amazo didn't plan on hanging around, he needed to find Lex and have him explain the new feeling of fear he had acquired from Batman; he didn't like it one bit. Amazo was going to leave when Flash had dug up Professor Ivo's body, the android had hung around as he was curious as to what they would do with his creator.
Much to his surprise the Justice League merely examined it for bit before re- burying it in a nicer grave and he watched as Flash lay down some flowers. Amazo was confused, the League were bad guys, Luthor had said so. If that were true then why were they being kind to his creators' body? And what did they mean when they said Luthor started the fire?
It made no sense, in Amazos mind Luthor was good and the Justice League were bad. The Android was so confused and conflicted, however one thing he knew was he had to find Lex, once he found him he would ask and then everything would make sense. Amazo flew off before the League noticed it.
