A.n I own Nothing
Good news, the bushfire crisis here in Australia has finally ended. Thanks to a whole week's worth of rain a majority of the fires have been put out...now we have floods to deal with. YAY!
There are a few lager fires still burning but they have been severely reduced and are now contained and unlikely to get out of control again. We're scheduled to have another week of heavy rain next week so hopefully, that will be the end of it for this year.
Anyway Please Review
P.s I'm not joking about the floods.
Somewhere in the Canadian Forests
J'onn landed in a large wood-filled area, he landed on his knees and gripped his head and tightly with his eyes shut. He was unsure how far he had flown from Metropolis as he had been so desperate to get away from all the noise. Somewhere over the highway he had destroyed his communicator and reverted back to his martin form; the last thing the martin wanted was another voice in his head and he did not have the concentration to keep up his more human-looking form.
He had a whole city full already.
After a while, the voices seemed to start to quiet down a bit and J'onn finally opened his eyes and looked around. Not recognising where he was J'onn thought about going back to Metropolis but thinking about the city made his head hurt.
Suddenly the martin heard a twig snap and he whirled around in a panic, hoping that it was not another human who had found him. A large white wolf with yellow eyes emerged from the dark trees, and let out an aggressive growl. J'onn took a hesitant step back, he didn't really want to hurt the creature.
Not that he could fight at all in his current state since his head was still causing him great pain. The martin felt a sharp burst of mental pain causing him to grip his head again and he let out a painful cry. However oddly the wolf seemed to pick up on the martins' distress, it suddenly became less aggressive and tilted head as if confused by J'onn's' painful cry.
J'onn eyed the wolf warily as the creature stalked carefully up to J'onn in a circular motion and when the wolf was close enough J'onn looked at It and the wolf leaned forward and sniffed the Martian. J'onn could feel the wolf's warm breath and after a few sniffs, the wolf nudged J'onn gently with a sad whine and sat next to him.
J'onn was absolutely stunned, he had herd that earth dogs were smart, wolves in particular but this giant white beast seemed to understand that he was in pain. The wolf moved closer and lay down, resting its head on J'onn's lap. Once he had regained some control over his mental state, J'onn hesitantly reached out to pet the wolf.
The wolf's fur was incredibly soft and felt surprisingly warm. The wolf didn't seem to mind that an alien was petting it, in fact, it appeared to like the attention and smiled as J'onn scratched the animal behind the ears.
"You're a pretty fellow," J'onn said softly as he pets the wolf "do you live out here?"
The wolf let out a low whine as a response.
"Do you have pups of your own?"
The wolf jerked it's head out of J'onn's hand and off his lap and huffed as if john had insulted him.
"I see…I don't either," J'onn claimed "I used to…but not anymore,"
The wolf's ears flattened as if the creature felt guilty about yanking away from the martin. The white beast trotted forward and lay back down allowing J'onn to pet it some more. Despite the fact that J'onn couldn't read animal minds, he could see genuine sincerity within the wolves' eyes.
J'onn sat there in the snow quietly stroking the wolf. It was oddly therapeutic.
"You should find yourself a nice mate," J'onn advised "and have a litter of pups of your own,"
The wolf let out a low disapproving growl.
"Don't be like that, married life is not that bad and your pups will be your pride and joy," J'onn assured.
The wolf, however, huffed in response. J'onn smiled and looked around the forest.
"It must be nice living out here in the woods, so quiet, so peaceful," J'onn said "Not like the city or the more populated areas of this world,"
The wolf looked up at him and tilted his head in confusion.
"The hatred of humans should not have surprised me. I see it every day, every time I go out with the League. But the sheer volume of selfishness and greed in a cheap attempt to disguise what everyone truly thinks," J'onn said.
"I saw humans for what they are, cruel, selfish and dishonest beings who couldn't care less about their fellow humans. They only pretend to care or take interest in when all they care about is there themselves,"
The wolf let out a disapproving bark.
"You don't agree?"
Again the wolf shook its head.
"Well, what do you know, you catch a rabbit and your happy," the Martian mocked. The wolf gave a low growl in response.
"But at least your honest, I suppose that is something you have over humans," J'onn sighed.
The wolf looked at J'onn and let out a low whine and nuzzled closer to J'onn.
"Hmm….it appears we have a difference of opinion.
They continued to sit in the snow for a while and soon small white specks began to fall from the sky. J'onn looked up.
"Snow?" J'onn asked.
Suddenly the wolf lifted its head and its ears twitched. A moment later the wolf was standing up it shook out its fur and walking away towards the trees. J'onn frowned, he had enjoyed the strange wolf's company and was sad to see the creature leave.
J'onn was not bothered by the cold, he could easily withstand the coldness of space, so a little snowfall would not affect him at all.
"I suppose It is too much to ask for you to remain out here with me," J'onn started "Just because I am not affected by the cold does not mean you will not succumb to it. Though I have enjoyed your company,"
The wolf stopped at the tree line and looked back at the martin and barked at him. J'onn looked at the wolf confused. The wolf walked back over to J'onn, this time it went behind him and started to nudge the martins back with its head.
"You want me to follow you?" J'onn asked confused.
The wolf stopped and looked up at the green man and gave a small nod, J'onn stared at the creature for a moment and contemplated his options; it was not like he had anything better to do. Well, he did need to go back to Metropolis and find Luthor but he did not feel like he could handle being near so many people at the moment.
J'onn stood up and looked down at the wolf.
"Very well, lead on," J'onn said. The wolf turned and walked into the trees with J'onn following.
As they walked, every now and then the wolf would look back at J'onn just to make sure the martin was still following him. J'onn wondered just where the wolf was leading him. The Martian was sure that this was no ordinary beast as it had a certain intelligence that other animals lacked.
J'onn thought about trying to read the animals' minds to find out why the beast was so intelligent, however, since arriving on earth he had found animal minds hard to read. Since animals were more driven by survival instinct it was far more difficult to decipher their thoughts.
J'onn found humans to be easier to read.
'Some humans believe in spirt animals who come to aid them or show them signs in times of need… but I am from mars so I wouldn't have an animal spirit…right?' J'onn thought.
He then started at the wolf in front of him, this one creature seemed to understand him on a deeper level.
'then again…perhaps just being on earth entitles me to one,' J'onn added as an afterthought.
About ten minutes later the wolf stopped and looked up towards the treetops. J'onn followed the wolf's gaze and noticed that some of the trees were blowing heavily; it was then the martin noted that the night temperature had dropped significantly.
"It's getting colder and the wind is picking up," J'onn stated.
The wolf eyed J'onn for a second and then started to walk again; only this time at a more significant pace. After walking for another fifteen minutes, J'onn was confused.
"A cave? Why would you lead me here?" J'onn asked.
The wolf didn't respond, it merely walked in,
It wasn't an overly large cave, but it was dry and very sheltered from the wind. There was a satchel sitting in the back of the cave, a pile of dry leaves and some dry logs for firewood, clearly, someone had been here before J'onn and the wolf arrived.
J'onn noticed the wolf lay down on the cave floor, it gave a yawn and J'onn saw rows of sharp teeth in its mouth. Ignoring the wolf J'onn walked over to the satchel and opened it.
Inside was a blanket, some strips of dried meat, a small amount of water and various herbs. There was nothing in the bag that would help identify who it belonged too or what happened to the owner.
J'onn turned back to face the wolf but found that the best had its eyes closed. J'onn put the bag down and walked over to the wolf, he sat down next to him.
"I suppose there is no point in asking if you what happened to the owner of this bag," J'onn started.
The wolf did not respond.
"Well if anyone asks….I saw nothing," J'onn continued. The wolf opened one lazy eye and looked flatly at the martin "In fact, I can get rid of the evidence for you," J'onn added with a chuckle.
The wolf closed its eye again.
J'onn left the bag of supplies alone and sat down next to his animal companion.
The wolf and J'onn continued to sit in the cave in silence, every now and then J'onn would get a painful headache and the wolf would look up at him in concern. However, Martian's pain was becoming more bearable and less frequent. The weather outside the cave was getting worse as the wind had picked up and the snowfall was becoming heavier; clearly, a blizzard was coming and J'onn was relived the wolf had led him to this cave.
While he could stand the extreme climate of the earth, he found the harsher weather like typhoons and blizzards as uncomfortable as any other human. He looked down at the wolf who was resting next to him and started to stroke its fur. The wolf gave no response or any sign of it waking up.
"I wish more humans were like you, silent yet somehow understanding," J'onn said quietly to himself "But they are not. My world is gone, my family…my children died a long time ago. It makes me wonder what am I fighting for….who am I fighting for,"
Suddenly the wolf's eyes snapped open and the creature raised its head. Its ears twitched a few times and it stood up and walked over to the mouth of the cave as and stared out into the night.
"What is it?" J'onn asked.
The wolf looked back at J'onn before walking out of the cave. J'onn stood up and followed the wolf into the howling snow. They weren't walking for very long when the wolf stopped and hid in a large nearby bush.
J'onn stared at the bush, wondering why the wolf had hidden. He focused his hearing and he heard what sounded like several people trudging through the snow, it was close by and from the sounds of it they were coming closer.
"Sounds like people," J'onn whispered.
J'onn flew up into a nearby tree and the wolf lay down in the bushes close to the snow so it would not be seen. A few moments after the two had hidden at least a dozen humans came to the spot they had just stood, they all looked cold and tired and were wearing a warm winter coat, beanies, and gloves. They were carrying torches and looked tired, cold and exhausted.
"Have you found her?" one man asked, he was very distraught.
"Not yet," another answered.
"She has to be out here somewhere," a woman tired.
"I know…it's just so cold and getting late…" the first man said worriedly.
"We'll keep looking," a woman claimed "even if we have to search all night,"
"We can't stay out much longer, the weather is getting worse," another pointed out.
"We have too," another urged.
"Right…let's try this way next,"
'What are they looking for? Why would they be out here in the cold and risking freezing to death,' J'onn wondered.
J'onn thought about using his mental powers to find out, but he hesitated for a moment. He was still recovering from using them earlier and had no desire to have the humans' minds screaming at him or to see there greedy and selfish thoughts.
On the other hand, it made no sense to the martin of why a group of humans would be wandering around in the woods at night when a blizzard was coming. Against his better judgment, he scanned the first man's mind; he did not need to probe too deep as his thoughts were very clear and strong.
'Please be alive…. please don't freeze, I can't bear the thought of losing my daughter,' J'onn herd.
'man, I'm freezing my but off out here, it's not my kid…hell, I don't even know her or her family,' a different man's thoughts came through 'but she's probably scared out of her wits and looking for her is the right thing to do,'
'I hope she's alright, no parent should ever have to bury their own children,' a woman's voice thought.
'My own kids are safe at home in bed…. I can't help but think it could be mine out here just as easily as his,'
'I don't have a child but if I did, I wouldn't know what to do,'
'We have to find her, she's such a good girl,'
'the weather is turning against us, if we don't find her soon…no we will find her or freeze trying,'
J'onn continued to listen to the thoughts of the group until they had moved on and were out of his range. Once they were gone J'onn flew back down to the ground and the wolf came out of hiding. The wolf looked up at him and gave him a confused look and then looked back in the direction that the group of humans had gone.
"There is a lost little girl out there somewhere, they are searching for her," J'onn told the wolf. The wolf's eyes widened and it dashed off into the night. "Where are you going?" J'onn called out. But the wolf was already gone.
J'onn let out a sigh and took to the air, he flew in the direction the wolf had run and found the beast just in time to see it pounce on the leader of the group; knocking him over and pinning him to the snowy ground. The wolf lowered his nose so it was very close to the man's neck with a low growl.
The man was clearly frightened as were the other humans and they tried to shoo the wolf away, however, they were hesitant to make any sudden movements as it might cause the wolf to harm their friend.
J'onn was about to go down and pull to wolf off the man himself when the wolf lifted its head and started sniffing the air. It then hopped off the man and bolted into the trees.
"That was odd," one of the humans said, "Are you alright?"
"Yeah, I thought that thing was going to eat me or something but all it did was smell me," the leader claimed.
Seeing as the humans were not hurt J'onn flew off after the wolf. He found the beast running through the trees at a speed that was far beyond anything a wolf should be capable of. However, it was not as fast as the martin and J'onn landed in front of the creature with a disappointed look on his face.
The wolf stopped and stared at J'onn.
"Why did you attack those humans?" J'onn demanded.
The wolf let out a bark before it raised its head and sniffed the air again. J'onn sighed, he knew the wolf would not be able to answer him, however a flash of a young child cold and crying filled his mind and J'onn realized what had happened.
"Y…You didn't attack that man…you were getting a scent," J'onn realised.
The wolf nodded.
Another mental flash filled J'onn's head, only this time instead of an image it was a feeling. J'onn could feel the wolf separate the older men's smell from a younger less potent feminine scent.
"The girl…. that was her father so you were trying to get her scent off him," J'onn stated, "Did you?"
The wolf nodded and walked around J'onn; it didn't run off again but looked in the direction it had been heading. The wolf hadn't attacked the humans, he was getting the girls' scent…the wolf was trying to find the lost girl the only way it knew how.
J'onn was at a loss for words and stared the wolf in shock, the animal given him a mental image as the answer. J'onn had never encountered something like this before, he knew the wolf had some intelligence but he didn't think it would be of this extent.
"I will search from the sky, it will be easier," he said and flew up above the trees. Once he was in the air he looked down and saw the wolf run off again.
He flew ahead looking for the missing girl, while also contemplating his strange animal companion. J'onn kept mentally scanning the area as he flew over the forest, he was looking for thoughts of fear or distress. While also keeping an eye out for any predators that might be out in the forest.
The wind and snowfall were very harsh now and J'onn had to also keep taps on the white wolf. This was proving to be difficult as the creature blinded into both the snow and night perfectly. Soon he heard crying.
J'onn stopped and looked to the west of him. He focused his mental powers and smiled; he changed directions and after a few minutes of flying he stopped and looked down.
There on the ground in the clearing behind him was a small child wearing a pink snow jacket with matching gloves. She was crying and shivering, using a large rock to shield herself from the wind but it was clearly not working as well as she hoped.
J'onn landed in front of her and the girl looked up at the green man with fear in her eyes.
"Hello, little one," J'onn said gently "do not be afraid, I am here to take you home,"
"R…R…Really?" the girl asked.
J'onn nodded. "Tell me, do you have a name little one?"
"I'm Jenifer," The girl introduced.
"It is nice to meet you, Jenifer," J'onn said kindly "My name is J'onn Jonzz,"
"That's a funny name," Jennifer giggled. At that moment the wolf leaped out of the trees into the clearing. Jenifer gasped in fright as she stared at the large creature. J'onn turned to look at the wolf.
"I found her," he said.
The wolf looked past the martin and eyed Jenifer critically. It then trotted up to J'onn and sat down next to him to show he meant no harm. Jenifer looked at J'onn and then back at the wolf, she was unsure whether or not to trust either of them.
"Do not be afraid, he won't hurt you," J'onn assured. Though it was clear Jenifer did not believe him.
"Would you like to pet him?" the Martian asked "he likes being rubbed behind the ears,"
"But…But…he'll bite me," Jenifer shuddered.
"Do not worry, he is friendly enough and won't bite," J'onn assured. To prove his point J'onn reached out and gave the wolf a scratch behind his ears. The wolf reacted with a happy whine.
Seeing as the large dog was used to at least some form of contact Jenifer hesitantly reached her hand. The wolf moved closet and lowed its head, allowing Jenifer to pet him. Jenifer smiled and rubbed her gloved hand on the fur.
"He's so fluffy and warm," Jenifer said in delight "What's his name?"
"Name?" J'onn asked in confusion.
"Yeah, all dogs have names,"
"Oh," J'onn said and looked down at the wolf "I don't know,"
"You didn't name your dog?" Jenifer asked in horror.
"He's not really my dog. I only just met him a few hours ago," J'onn admitted.
"It doesn't matter when you met, you're supposed to name your dogs as soon as you get them," Jenifer scolded "It's an insult to dogs everywhere if you don't name them right away. Right?"
The wolf barked in response to agree with Jenifer.
"Why are you agreeing with her?" J'onn asked the wolf. The beast just gave him look and J'onn could have sworn he saw some kind of mischievous giant in the beast's eyes. It was as if the wolf was only agreeing with Jenifer to annoy him.
"See he agrees with me,"
"Fine then his name is Wolf then," J'onn said.
"No, it can't be jus Wolf," Jenifer huffed.
"Why not?"
"You can't name a wolf, Wolf. That's like naming a dog Dog or Bark because it barks,"
"But it is a wolf,"
"You have to think about names and whether or not your pet will like it or not. After all, if they don't, they won't respond to it," the explained "After all dogs are loyal lifelong companions,"
"He is not my pet nor is he, my companion," J'onn insisted.
The wolf let out a sad low whine and its ears flattened.
"Don't say that you'll hurt his feelings," Jenifer warned. She then turned to the wolf and wrapped her arms around its neck to hug it.
"It's okay he didn't mean it," she said "he just doesn't understand,"
"Clearly," J'onn agreed. He looked up at the sky "We should get back to the cave, this girl needs shelter,"
The wolf barked in agreement and Jenifer allowed J'onn to gently pick her up and he took to the skies again and headed back to find the search party. He flew slightly slower so as not to scare the already frightened child and lower to try and keep her sheltered from the wind.
Unfortunately, the weather was against them and the blizzard started, was becoming very unsafe for any of them to be out in the cold much longer. The wolf led J'onn back to the cave and when they arrived Jenifer was shivering and unable to keep warm.
The wolf trotted over to the supply bag and pulled the blanket out of the bag, he walked back over to Jenifer and pulled over the child and then lay down over her feet to keep her warm. J'onn struggled to get a very small fire going but as soon as he did, he fled the cave into the storm.
"What's wrong…where's he going?" Jenifer asked. She was afraid that the green man would leave her alone.
The wolf got up and walked to the cave mouth and found J'onn not far away. He let out a bark and the martin tuned to look at the wolf.
"I am weak to fire," J'onn explained "it does not mix with my martin physiology. It has a negative effect on my mental powers,"
The wolf's ears flattened and he let out a low whine. A shuffling behind them, J'onn looked to see Jenifer was standing not far away with the blanket wrapped around her tightly.
"Mister green man, are you alright?" Jenifer asked concerned.
"Yes, you should stay near the fire," J'onn advised.
"But…"
"Don't worry I will stay near the entrance," J'onn assured and he moved back into the cave but did not go any further from the entrance. He was still within eyesight.
The wolf walked over to Jenifer and picked up the blanket in his mouth, he gently gave it a tug towards the fire indicating he agreed with J'onn. Jenifer walked back to the fire and the large wolf sat on her feet, attempting to help her keep warm.
"Alright, have you thought of a name yet?" Jenifer asked and looked in the Martians' direction.
J'onn let out a sigh, he didn't really see the need to name the wolf since once the blizzard stopped and J'onn had seen Jenifer's safe return he would leave the wolf in the woods and likely never see the creature again. But at the same time, he did not see any harm in indulging the girl, if anything it would help keep her occupied while they wait out the storm.
"How about Snow, since he's white," J'onn suggested.
"I don't like it, it's too corny," the girl whined.
"I thought you said the wolf would need to like it,"
"Well he doesn't like it either," Jenifer claimed. She looked at the large wolf warming her feet "do you," The wolf shook his head.
"Whose side are you on?" J'onn asked with a chuckle "Fine Blizzard then,"
"No good," Jenifer instantly responded.
"Why not?"
"Blizzards are cold and scary. This wolf is warm, kind and gentle,"
"Fluffy,"
"To insulting,"
The wolf huffed in agreement.
"Hunter," J'onn suggested "Wolves hunt,"
The wolf let out a bark of approval.
"Nope, he can't be Hunter,"
"Why not? He likes the name," J'onn pointed out and the wolf let out another approval bark.
"Because he's too nice to hurt anyone," Jenifer reasoned.
"Fido,"
"Too generic,"
"Then what would you call him?"
"It doesn't matter what I would call him, he's your dog so you have to pick the name,"
"But every name I suggested you have rejected,"
"That's because they're not good names," Jenifer insisted "they don't fit, try harder,"
"What about Geralt?" (1)
"Geralt, the white wolf Geralt…hmm…" Jenifer thought "I mean it has a nice ring to it. But he doesn't look like a Geralt,"
J'onn let out a mental sigh, he forgot how children think. He would need a name that the wolf would like and one Jenifer would approve of. J'onn thought about the weather and the last few hours, he did like the idea of naming the beast after the snowfall or something to do with their situation. However, he still needed a name that he felt appropriate to their situation and one Jenifer would approve of.
"How about…Winter," J'onn finally suggested.
"Winter…" Jenifer repeated and thought about it.
"I like it and I think it suits him," Jenifer said after a few moments of silence.
"Really?"
"Yeah, I mean he's white like snow and winter can be fun and gentle like him," Jenifer explained. She looked down at the wolf "Do you like the name Winter?" the girl asked.
The wolf looked up at her and nodded. His tail wagged in happiness.
"Then Winter it is," J'onn declared. The wolf barked in approval again.
Jenifer sat in front of the fire petting Winter, talking to both the wolf and J'onn. Every so often the Winter would get up and put another log on the fire to keep it going. It amazed J'onn that despite being a wild animal the fire did not seem to affect the beast at all, it was like it didn't seem afraid of the flames at all.
Winter also brought over the bag and J'onn urged Jenifer to eat some of the dried meat. She did and soon she lay down and fell asleep with her head leaning on Winter's belly, the wolf positioned itself so she was protected from the cold wind.
J'onn watched the two for a bit, he eyed a large scar that ran across Winter's belly, he had not noticed it before but now he could see it. Granted it was under a lot of fur but J'onn's Martian eyesight could pick it out. J'onn wondered what happened that would leave Winter with such a large wound, he couldn't think of any gun or other beasts that would leave a wound like that. If the wolf was attacked by another animal there would more marks, if it was human it would have been a gunshot wound.
Thinking about Winter's scar made J'onn remember the rest of the Justice League and how he left them in the middle of the search for Luthor; he turned and looked up at the sky. The Blizzard was still going but the winds had died down and it was not as bad as it was before.
"I need to leave. My friends need my help," He said once Jenifer was fast asleep.
Winter looked over at J'onn with concerned eyes.
"Do not worry," J'onn said and he walked over to the Winter and patted him on the head "I will return once my friends are safe,
Winter looked down at Jenifer and looked at back up J'onn as if to ask if his friends were lost too.
"They are not the ones who are lost," J'onn answered cryptically.
Winter started at the Martian with understanding eyes and then lowered its head back down near Jenifer's head.
"Just keep her warm and I will be back before you know it," J'onn said. He shifted back into his human form and flew off into the sky at a high speed.
J'onn flew back towards Metropolis as fast as he could, he had to get back to the rest of the League as soon as possible. As he approached the outskirts of the city, he tried to contact the Justice League to find out where they were, however all he got were thoughts of combat.
J'onn knew that meant that the league was in a battle and he increased his speed, he flew over the vast city looking for the league and soon spied some smoke…that usually indicated that the heroes were in battle.
As J'onn approached he saw what appeared to be a tall grey man approaching the Justice League, the heroes looked both winded and wounded. Luthor was also nearby encouraging the grey man to finish them off.
Metropolis City
The League had been fighting the android on and off all night. At first, they hoped it would lead them to Luthor but it had become such a threat that the League had to abandon their search for the evil genius and focus their efforts on taking down the mysterious robot.
However, that proved to be easier said and done as the Justice League had very quickly learned that the android had the ability to copy their powers and fighting styles simply by looking at them. First, it had taken Hawk Girls' wings and mace, then Wonder Woman's godlike strength, it had been able to duplicate and use Green Lanterns ring and the green Energy.
Something which shocked the group, Flashes super speed and finally, it took Superman's vast powers making it unstoppable. Batman had used kryptonite on the android to weaken it and scare it off after it had tried and failed to take the dark knights' powers. Because Batman didn't have any powers or special abilities there was nothing the android could duplicate.
He instead used kryptonite theorising that if it took the Leagues' strengths and powers it would also take their weakness.
This had been proven true however when it came back the android had adapted and Kryptonite no longer affected it making it truly unstoppable. To make things worse, Luthor had also recovered and joined the battle with his newly repaired super suit and between the two the league stood no chance and the Android and Luthor where.
"Yes, do it now…there weak," Luthor urged.
J'onn suddenly landed in front of the Gary humid, placing himself between his friends and their foe.
"You shouldn't have come here," Lex said confidently "Now take his powers and you'll be unstoppable,"
"J'onn…. don't…run," Superman warned.
The Martian, however, didn't move and the android's eyes glowed for a moment.
"No…he has J'onn's powers now too," Hawkgirl hissed.
"You have all our powers now, use them well," J'onn advised.
"You're not going to fight me?" Amazo asked confused.
"No," J'onn said.
"then what are you going to do?" Amazo asked.
"Why don't you tell me," J'onn responded with a sly smile.
The machine's eyes glowed yellow for a moment before fading, the android looked at the league in understating and then whirled around to face Luthor.
"You…You lied to me,"
"What?" Lex asked in shock.
"Everything you said was a lie, you've been planning on getting rid of me as soon as you had what you wanted," the android said angrily.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Lex tired as he backed away from the android.
"He took my powers Luthor, he can read your minds," J'onn said he still hasn't moved. Lexes eyes went wide in fear, but it was quickly suppressed with confidence.
"So, you figured it out, too bad your too late," Luthor said and pulled out the kill switch. He pressed the button and the androids' head exploded. Luthor smirked triumphantly but it was short-lived and fear spread across his face as the Amazos head just reformed.
"What…impossible," Luthor gasped.
"And my molecular shifting abilities," J'onn informed with a smug smile.
Luthor backed away in fear as the android turned on him, he knew he could not get away as it had all the leagues' powers. Amazo caught Luthor and started to beat him up and rip his medical containers off him. The league got up and went to stop the android bit J'onn stopped them.
"No please have mercy," Luthor begged as he tried to shield his chest plate from the android.
"Mercy?" Amazo asked.
He took a good long look at Luthor before turning to the Justice League.
"you have nothing more to offer me…none of you do," Amazo said.
He then turned to look at the stars in the sky and started glowing a golden colour before taking to the sky and flying off heading towards the night sky.
"Should we go after him?" Hawkgirl asked.
"No need, he has no interest in us anymore," J'onn claimed.
"Where's he going?" Green Lantern asked.
"Where gods go, to the heavens," J'onn answered.
"Oh please, it's not a god, it's just a machine," Luthor mocked.
"Then why do I get the feeling if that machine ever comes back you will be doing a lot of praying," Superman responded.
Luthor rolled his eyes. Batman walked up to Luthor and punched him in the face, it was enough to knock the supervillain out and Luthor crumpled to the ground.
"That was a bit excessive, I mean he was already fairly injured," Green Lantern pointed out.
"He'll live," Batman claimed coldly. He then released his grappling hook and swung off into the city.
"How did you know that would work?" Flash asked once batman had gone "Letting him take your powers I mean?"
"He had doubt in his mind about Luthor's intentions. I knew once he knew the truth he would turn on Luthor in a second,"
"Since when can you read robots' minds?" Hawkgirl asked.
"I can't, I read Luthor's mind," J'onn claimed, "he told me,"
"Huh…makes sense. I mean if that robot was smart enough not trust Luthor than maybe there is hope for it after all," Flash claimed.
The authorities arrived and Luthor was handed over to them, the Justice League than began to clean up the mess and debris from the fight and make sure no one in the surrounding buildings had been hurt and help anyone who needed it.
"Man, what a night, kind of glad we didn't call Al in," Flash said. Once they had finished helping where they could and the League was on their way back to the Javelin "Can you imagine what that Android could have taken from him,"
"Yeah that would have been very bad," Green Lantern agreed.
"Could he have even copied Alucards Magic?" Wonder Woman asked, "or his vampire powers?"
"Who knows, but the android had no trouble copying us, Hawkgirl's mace and Johns Ring. But he also took on our weakness as well as our powers, if he had copied Alcuards abilities would he have taken on his need to consume blood as well?" Superman wondered.
"Now that is a very scary thought," Flash shuddered.
"I'm more concerned if he could control that hunger for blood," Batman spoke up "Alucard's dealt with it for centuries, I doubt the Android would know how to fight off the urge to feed,"
"A Vampire robot hmm. Hey, what would we call that…A Vambot…Robo-Pire? Also, would it go after human blood or oil?" Flash asked.
"Then again if it took on the need for a source for its powers…it could be limited by it too. Just like how Alucard is limited is by how much blood he drinks," Hawkgirl contemplated, ignoring Flash.
"He overcame the weakness to Kryptonite very quickly, I have little doubt he would overcome dependence on a fuel source too, blood or otherwise," Batman pointed out.
"Yeah plus the thing didn't have a mouth so how could it feed?" John pointed out "In fact how was it talking anyway? I didn't see any speakers and it didn't have telepathy until the very end,"
"Let's not to think about that too hard," Superman advised.
Once they were done, they went their separate ways for the night with Hawkgirl, Wonder Woman and boarding a Javelin to head back to the Watchtower. Flash ran off and Batman left in his Bat plane to head back to Gotham.
J'onn, however, refused to board the Javelin, something that was noticed by the girls.
"You're not coming back to the tower?" Wonder Woman asked.
"No, there is one last thing I need to take care of first," J'onn answered "I will make my own way back afterward,"
"Alright," Wonder Woman said and boarded the plane. Superman, however, wanted to ask the Martian something before he left.
"So…I was worried after you took off and your com went out. Where were you all night?" Superman asked.
J'onn looked at the Man of steel and contemplated on how he should respond, he could tell the league about how he lost faith in humanity and all the bad things he heard from the peoples' minds had affected him. He thought about telling Superman about the overly large wolf, whose silent companionship and presence had helped him regain control and realise what was important.
But he decided against it as it was no longer important and his thoughts went to the large wolf and the little girl they had found in the woods. He made a mental note to do some research on wolves later and check up on the child after he took her home once the blizzard stopped.
A small smile formed on J'onn's face.
"I got lost," he answered and he took off into the sky leaving a bewildered Superman behind.
