Hey, I hope everyone had a happy thanksgiving! I want to say thanks to DarkLadyEris over on Archive of Our Own for offering to Beta read my stories for me! They've been a big help.
Now I only had one review, thank for you saying it was a great chapter! Onto the story.
Ember woke up earlier than normal the next morning, at first she was confused about where she was before she realized. She was in her new trunk at Hogwarts and she had spent her first night in the castle. Sighing she got up out of bed and grabbed her school uniform and some clean undergarments before climbing out of her trunk.
She shrunk her trunk and carried it with her to the dorm's bathroom before she started to get ready for the day. She brushed her teeth and hair, putting it up in a ponytail. She then changed into her clean clothes, unshrinking her truck to put her dirty clothes away for Bippy to take care of, and grabbed her bag. Ember had made sure that her elves, and only her elves, could get into her trunks to clean.
She cleaned up after herself most of the time, but Ember knew that she would be very busy with school, paperwork, special projects, and whatever else came her way that she might get too busy and not have time to clean up everything in her trunk.
Not to mention all the dust that could get on top of her things.
Ember got dressed and made sure her crown wasn't crooked she grabbed her bag, put her shrunken trunk in her shirt pocket with a charm to make sure it didn't fall out before she then walked down to the common room and started reading a book waiting for the others to wake up.
She spent an hour reading her book before people started waking up and coming to the common room, most of the people coming down the stairs were upper years. They all seemed surprised that Ember managed to get up so early compared to her dormmates.
A Prefect asked Ember if she had trouble sleeping and was surprised when she responded and told her that she always tried to wake up early on the weekdays.
A little while later, Daphne and Tracy walked down and joined her on the couch, pulling out their own books to read in peaceful silence. Soon one of the older students offered to show the three of them to the great hall for breakfast.
The three first years put their books in their bags before following the older Ravenclaw to the Great Hall. Ember sat down at the Ravenclaw table and started grabbing some breakfast. She took some pancakes, some strawberries, and a bowl of yogurt and looked around for some strawberry milk, frowning when she didn't see any on the table.
"Looking for something firsty?" Another one of the older students asked, Ember really needed to learn their names, she thought. "I was looking for some strawberry milk but, it seems that there is none on the table."
"Strawberry Milk? Sorry Firsty, we don't have that drink here. You have the choice of Water, Normal or chocolate milk, or Pumpkin juice. In the mornings at least, at lunch and dinner; there's only water and pumpkin juice."
Ember looked at the table and frowned, "You mean to tell me we have all these different options for food, but we only have four choices of drink for breakfast and only two choices at lunch and dinner? What if someone is allergic to pumpkins, that means they're only able to drink water. Drinking water is important but drinking too much water is bad for your body and can actually kill you."
The older student just shrugged and went back to their own breakfast leaving Ember with a frown as she grumpily grabbed some chocolate milk and started eating.
Not long after the rest of the Ravenclaw house came down to the table, Professor Flitwick started handing out schedules. He paused when he handed Ember her own.
"Miss Ravenclaw, the headmaster wishes to see you in his office after classes are over."
Ember nodded, she had been expecting this, "Thank you for telling me sir. Could you please escort me to his office since this is my first day, and I do not know where anything is yet?"
The Professor smiled at her, "Of course Miss Ravenclaw, as head of your house in school, of course I would escort you there."
"Would you also be willing to stay in the room with me sir? I do not know the headmaster and find it strange I am being called up to his office on the first day of school despite not getting in any trouble beforehand."
Flitwick frowned as he realized she was correct, the Headmaster had never called a student to his office before classes started unless it was serious. Ember Ravenclaw had done nothing wrong to warrant being called to his office like this. What was that old man playing at?
"Of course, Miss Ravenclaw, I would be delighted to join you for this meeting. You are correct in that this is unusual, perhaps he simply wants to ask you about your last name? I must admit to being curious about it myself."
Ember shrugged, "Mother came from a long line of squibs from the Ravenclaw line, no one, not even she knew. I took an inheritance test and was eligible to take the Ravenclaw Ladyship and name so, I did. It's as simple as that."
Professor Flitwick hummed in response before nodding at her and continued to hand out schedules to the rest of the Ravenclaw students.
"Do you know why the headmaster wants to meet with you Ember?" Daphne asked looking bored but Ember could see the interest in her eyes.
"I have a suspicion but nothing concrete." She turned back to her food and made sure her new friends understood she would not be saying anything more than what she already had.
Luckily, both Daphne and Tracey understood that she wouldn't be forthcoming with any more information and settled down to eat their own breakfasts.
Ember took this time during breakfast to take a look at her timetable.

Ember made sure to memorize as much as she could of her timetable. It seemed like she would need to work on her paperwork and other projects at night and on the weekend.
She would do her projects and paperwork on the weekdays when she had time between homework, and on the weekends she would spend time with Daphne and Tracey while also plotting out where everything was so she could make a map of the school.
She used to stand outside the door and listen as Lily and James would tell Godric all about Hogwarts, at least until James had caught her and decided to teach her a lesson so she would never do that again. But during those times, she heard James often mention a map he and his friend group had made of Hogwarts, charmed to show where everyone was.
Ember wasn't planning any pranks but, it would be useful to have a map like that in the future in case she ever needed it. It was too bad that the original map had been lost while James was still in school. Surprisingly, it wasn't Sirius or Peter who had lost it, but James himself.
Ember quickly checked her watch and stood up. "Come on, you two, let's grab our books and head down to the greenhouses so we aren't late."
"Is it that close to class time already?" Tracey asked as she stood up.
"It's eight twenty, but if we're to go up to our dorms, grab our books and then get out to the greenhouses without risk of being late, we need to leave now. We live in a tower, remember, it'll take a bit of time to climb all those stairs."
"Not to mention the changing staircases Tracey." Daphne said as she gracefully stood up. "Let's go, Ember."
The three girls walked to their dorm rooms and grabbed the books they would need for their classes that day before walking down to the greenhouses.
It was a good class with a pretty good teacher, Ember had to admit. Professor Sprout spent the first half hour of class, explaining what they would be doing and showing them how to do it before having them practice by themselves. She also gave the class warnings to not go into any other greenhouse as they had more tricky and dangerous plants that could harm them.
Ember wondered how long it took Professor Sprout to realize that she needed to explain the dangers to students instead of just telling them not to go there. If you told a group of eleven and twelve-year-olds not to do something, they were going to want to do it even if they knew they would get into trouble.
If you told them it was dangerous without explaining why then at least half of them would want to go check it out for themselves. But if you told them what those dangers were and explained why they had to stay away, it was likely that only the troublemakers would want to go check those places out. Everyone else would be willing to leave it be.
That's why Ember couldn't believe that the Headmaster had told an entire school not to go to the third corridor unless they wanted to face an unpleasant death without explaining why and how.
Professor Sprout assigned the class an essay on the magical properties of mundane plants. She made sure to assign each student a different plant: Ember got roses, Tracey got clovers, and Daphne got tiger lilies.
Most of the class seemed upset that they were supposed to study non-magical plants but Ember was a bit excited, as she had always loved roses and their many different colors. Not to mention, she already knew that there were several different healing properties that roses had.
After Herbology, the girls went for a walk around the lake and spent time getting to know each other some more. Tracey and Daphne already knew one another from childhood so the two of them spent the time getting to know Ember instead of each other.
When the three girls were done walking outside, they went inside for a quick lunch before going to charms class. Professor Flitwick was a tiny man, he was even a bit shorter than Ember. She had heard rumors that he was half-Goblin, she wouldn't mind it if it turns out he is half-goblin like some people. She loved the greedy little buggers.
Professor Flitwick spent the first hour of class explaining the theory of the Lumos spell. She could tell that several of the Hufflepuffs that she shared the class with were bored, some were doodling instead of paying attention. Ember decided to give them copies of her notes so they had the proper tools to succeed in class.
If she did this, then she would make the Hufflepuffs look at her as friendly instead of neutral or hostile. It would give her a lot of allies if she managed to get the Hufflepuffs to like her.
Ember had a feeling she would need allies in the future, she wanted to make a place where her gems could live without fear of being looked down upon or kidnapped and experimented on. She would probably let some magicals come if she was close to them, she would for sure allow the Goblins to set up a bank there.
Maybe she could look into making her own island? That was something to look into during the summer.
After the fifteen-minute break, the class sat back down to start practicing the spell. Ember glanced around the room, watching all the others say the words while moving their wands but they were all missing a very important thing.
They weren't pushing a bit of magic through their wand. That was a very important part of using magic, after all.
Ember smirked and raised her hand, doing the motions as she said the enchantment and pushed a small bit of magic into the wand causing it to light up.
"Well done Miss Ravenclaw! Look class, Miss Ravenclaw has managed to do it. Can you explain to the class what you did?" The professor looked excited as Ember nodded with a slight smile.
"Of course sir, I said the enchantment, did the motions, and pushed a small bit of magic into my wand. I thought it was common sense that you would need to push magic into your wand when you first start using it."
"Oh, well done! Ten points to Ravenclaw for figuring out something that most don't until their second class and an extra five points for being the first to perform the spell."
Ember was shocked, "Wait their second class? Why so long?" She didn't get an answer as he went back to helping other students, awarding points to those who managed to do it.
"Nice job Ember." She turned to see Tracy smiling at her.
"Thanks, Tracy, I really just thought it was common sense."
Daphne spoke up then, "Most magicals don't have any common sense, even the muggleborns stop using it much when they join this world."
"That's stupid." Ember shook her head before helping the two girls get their wands to light up, she earned another five points for helping out her classmates before class was over.
