The Long awaited chapter has come, the chapter where Adriane finally competes in the third task is upon us.
Big thanks to DarkLadyEris over on Archive of Our Own for offering to Beta read my stories for me! It's been a big help for this chapter!
Onto reviews.
asdasd chapter 4 . Nov 11
You should get this proofread. The first half of the chapter is almost unreadable because of the they them their. English isn't my first language yet even I can tell that's completely wrong in literary sense.
Me: I'm sorry, I made it be they/them back then because Adriane at the time was dealing with a gender crisis and wasn't sure if she was a boy or a girl or which set of pronouns she wished to use. I'm sorry if this made it harder to read.
asdasd chapter 17 . Nov 11
Really? She spent literally years in a time chamber yet somehow could not deal with her mental issue then? Also how did she get wounded by a dragon? Its like the over the top inheritance BS just randomly disappears the moment plot needs to be copied exactly as it was in cannon.
Me: She spent time in the chamber yes but remember, her teachers didn't know she used to be "Harry Potter" this means she wasn't able to talk about her emotional problems that much with them unless she wanted to expose herself. Also, I made her get hurt by the dragon because at the time I was under the impression that Superman was weaker to magic than normal humans.
I later learned that this is wrong and that he's as weak to magic as a normal human but at the time I found this out I had already wrote the next chapter and it gave me a wonderful opening to have her meet with superman.
ThunderClaw03 chapter 38 . Oct 26
Dumbledore is setting himself up to have a lobotomy done through his eyes by heat vision. Good lord is Dumbledore that crazy . Yes I know he is. I wonder if Remus is also similar spelled. Update when you can
Me: Yeah he is getting pretty crazy. You'll have to wait and see if Remus is spelled or not.
Onto the story!
Adriane lay in bed for several hours after she finished sobbing. She felt a bit lighter after she let it all out. She supposes that she had been holding back more emotions about this entire thing than even she knew. This just proved to her that she needed to finish sorting everything in her mind's library.
She sat up slowly, so she would not get lightheaded, she was a bit dehydrated due to all that crying and knew that if she were to sit up fast she would get some vertigo. She called for Dobby to bring her a cup of water that she drank in a few minutes to help rehydrate her.
She then sat crisscrossed on her bed and went into her mindscape to get to work sorting her third-year memories. She couldn't believe how much she missed or how bad the adults were at keeping her safe from who they thought was a crazy mass murderer who had a hand in killing her entire family.
The only adult that had tried to tell her anything was Mr. Weasley when he told her about Sirius escaping and how it was assumed he would be coming after her. Other than him no one else was forthcoming about the danger she faced. They didn't explain why she wasn't allowed to go to Hogsmeade, besides the fact that her permission slip wasn't signed. They didn't explain why she shouldn't walk around alone, no one explained anything to her.
She had to spy on the minister and her professor to find out as far as they knew, Sirius Black was the right-hand man of Voldemort and had sold out Adriane's parents. She was lucky that she had decided to listen to Sirius's side of the story otherwise she never would have found out that he was innocent of the crimes he was accused of.
If she had never found out then he would, most likely, be dead. Either killed by her own hands or from the dementor's kiss.
After she finished organizing her mind she took a small nap before she started training for the third task. It was going to be coming up soon and whoever entered her would probably act during it. Adriane doubted that it was a crazy fan who entered her after all, if it had been they would have told her trying to make her impressed. No, someone wanting to get her killed had entered her and she still suspected it was Professor Moody.
It was always the Defense teacher that tried to kill her after all.
Time skip to the third task
It had been a hard few months for Adriane, she spent most of the time training. She trained her magic and her superpowers, she had a feeling she might need the extra training for the maze. Call it a gut feeling.
Right now she was sitting at breakfast with her friends when Professor McGonagall walked over. "Mister Potter, please follow me."
"May I ask what I have done Professor?"
Professor McGonagall shook her head, "You misunderstand me Mister Potter, you are not in trouble but it is time for the traditional meeting of the families."
She raised an eyebrow at the Professor, surely she wasn't being serious right? She was aware that Adriane had no family besides the Dursleys and she had her doubts that they would suddenly get over their hatred and fear of magic enough to willingly agree to come to Hogwarts and support their freak of a "nephew".
The only other family she had was the Waynes and they were in Gotham actually, she wasn't even sure that the magical world knew about them.
"Ma'am you seem to have forgotten, but I have no family so sadly I will not be following you or taking part in this." Adriane tried to keep her tone respectful, only a bit longer, and then she could leave this hellish place forever.
"Be that as it may, you still have people waiting for you, Mister Potter."
"Who?"
"Excuse me?" The Professor sounded baffled that Adriane asked who was waiting for her. She didn't understand why, it was reasonable that she would want to know who was waiting for her as her family.
"I asked who is waiting for me Professor, the only people I claim as family in this state is Fred, George, Neville, Luna, and Fleur."
McGonagall stared at her like she was a mystery that she was trying to unravel before she finally spoke. "It's the Weasley family along with Remus."
She snorted, "Yeah tell them I'm not coming." She then stood up and walked away before the Professor could react.
(Adriane will be referred to as Harry and He during this next part since no one there knows the truth )
McGonagall frowned before turning and walking through a door that lead to the room holding all the families. She walked over to the Weasleys and took a close look at them.
Molly had put her hair into a bun and was wearing her best robes, red and gold of course like any other prideful Gryffindor. She had some light makeup on her face and, a silver necklace around her neck.
Arthur had a grey bowler hat on his head to hide his balding, he wore a black trench coat that went down to his knees and some grown trousers.
Bill was there to meet the person that his younger siblings used to be friends with and see what kind of person they were like. Unlike his parents, he didn't try to dress up for this event and was wearing what he would normally wear. He had his long red hair tied back into a ponytail, his dragon tooth earring in his ear, and was wearing his dragon hide vest with a brown shirt and black pants on with some muggle combat boots.
McGonagall turned slightly to look at Remus, to his credit he did try to clean up for the event but there was only so much someone with as little as he did could do to look presentable at an event this large. He wore his best robes, they were a dull faded blue with a few rips here and there that had been sown together by hand after the repairing charms stopped working on them.
Remus at least looked clean and well-fed, probably from staying with Black in that large dark house of his.
"I'm sorry everyone, he's refusing to come and walked off before I could say another word as soon as he found out who was waiting for him." She shook her head sadly.
Molly was furious, how dare Harry just walk away from his Professor and how dare he do so after finding out that her family and Remus were waiting for him. When she got her hands on that brat he would wish that he had just come on his own, he would still get yelled at for how he had been acting this year, treating her poor babies and Hermione so badly.
She stormed out of the room, her husband following her meekly, not noticing that her eldest son had stayed behind to chat with the french tart that had dared to turn her baby boy Ronnie down for a date. Molly, Arthur, Remus, and Professor McGonagall searched all over for 'Harry' but they never found him. 'Harry' had only shown up when the task was about to start.
(Adriane will now go back to being called by her name and correct pronoun)
Adriane showed up right before Bagman started to explain the rules, there was no time for anyone to speak to her before she rushed into the maze. Thanks to getting forty points in the first task and forty-five in the second she was tied for first place with Cedric.
She ran in a random direction of the maze before she felt the cold chill signifying that dementors were around and froze. Did the judges seriously put a dementor in the maze? She spun around and spotted the thing flying at her, its ripped robe bellowing behind it like Snape's whenever he entered a room.
She pointed her wand at the demon and cast the spell to call forth her Patronus. "Expecto Patronum!" She expected her Patronus to be a stag still so she was shocked when instead of a stag coming out of her wand it was a giant monkey that ran at the dementor.
Adriane watched surprised as her new Patronus tried to scare away the demon before she realized it wasn't acting like a normal dementor. Suddenly she felt like face-palming when it stumbled. This wasn't a dementor, this was a boggart. She recalled her Patronus before casting the spell to change the creature into something funny. The Dementor's black cloak turned into a pink sparkly monstrosity that reminded her of the valentines festivities that Lockheart had tried to arrange two years ago.
Instead of laughing, she felt more like cringing and quickly moved on to the next obstacle.
The next obstacle she came across was some strange golden mist, she thought of turning back and finding another way around before deciding she didn't have time. She stepped in expecting almost anything to happen but she was surprised when all the mist did was make everything upside down for her. It was like she was walking on the ceiling and if she was anyone else this would probably be disorientating but to Adriane, it was pretty normal. She walked on the ceilings sometimes during training so this wasn't that different.
She was a bit surprised and suspicious that she wasn't encountering any other obstacles except the easier ones. She came across a Blast-Ended Skrewt and groaned. She loved Hagrid, she really did. He was a wonderful guy but he shouldn't have been allowed to make these awful things. She was pretty sure he had violated the law when he made them.
She sighed and hit the creature with her laser eyes, turning it to dust thankfully. She had already figured out that the people watching this couldn't see what was going on inside of the maze and there was nothing set up to allow them to see anything going on either so she felt a bit safe using her special powers to kill this dangerous creature.
Adriane started walking towards the middle when she heard a scream and started running towards it. She was horrified when she came upon Krum using the cruciatus curse on Cedric. She quickly stunned him and checked on the person he had been torturing. The poor guy looked out of it so she sent red sparks up in the air to make sure a teacher would come to take care of the two people before she moved on.
She had no idea why Krum would do that, he might seem stuck up but he didn't strike her as the type to torture someone like that.
Soon Adriane came up on a sphinx who told her if she wanted to pass she would have to answer a riddle. "Alright, give it to me."
"First think of the person who lives in disguise,
Who deals in secrets and tells naught but lies.
Next, tell me what's always the last thing to mend,
The middle of middle and end of the end?
And finally, give me the sound often heard,
During the search for a hard-to-find word.
Now string them together and answer me this,
Which creature would you be unwilling to kiss?"
Adriane frowned and decided she had to think this through. If she got it wrong the Sphinx would attack her and while she was sure she could take her, she also knew she didn't want to make enemies right now.
"Is it okay if I work the question out, out loud? I'll tell you when I have the answer."
The creature looked thoughtful before nodding, "As long as you tell me what your answer is then yes you may think aloud."
"Thank you." Adriane smiled at her, nodding her head in thanks before going thoughtful. she obviously had to break the riddle down before she could even think to answer it so she would have to do this in part.
"First think of the person who lives in disguise,
Who deals in secrets and tells naught but lies."
"Hmm, a person who lives in disguise, that could be anyone. There were hundreds of heroes and villains out there who lived in disguise." She hummed in thought.
"Okay, the second part, who deals in secrets and tells naught but lies. Once again there were a lot of villains who did exactly that but the magical world was only just now finding out about these people so she had a feeling the answer wasn't villain." She sighed and shook her head a bit frustrated with herself.
"Okay, who else but villains does that description fit?" Her eyes widened when she got the answer, "Oh! A spy, a person who lives in disguise and tells naught but lies is a spy."
"Okay so the first part is Spy, now to work out the second part."
"Next, tell me what's always the last thing to mend,
The middle of middle and end of the end?"
"Hmm, that's a little tricky but also easier. I'm pretty sure we solved riddles like this in primary school." She smiled as she remembered back then, looks like those classes were coming in handy now.
"The last thing to mend, the middle of middle, and the end of the end are all the same thing, the letter D."
"Now the last part"
"And finally, give me the sound often heard,
During the search for a hard-to-find word.
Now string them together and answer me this,
Which creature would you be unwilling to kiss?"
"Okay, a sound often heard during the search of a hard-to-find word, somehow I don't think the answer is Um." Adriane huffed before humming in thought. "Hmm, Oh! Er! Okay now string them all together, Spy, D, Er, Spider! My answer is Spider!" She turned to the Sphinx to see if she was correct and breathed out a sigh of relief when she moved aside to let Adriane pass.
"Very good, you have a good mind, young man. If you ever want to solve more riddles come find me."
She laughed and nodded, "I will! Thanks." And then she was off, running towards the middle of the maze where she was tackled by a spider.
So the riddle was a warning of the next obstacle, she should have realized that. Adriane threw the spider off of her and glared at it, "Run if you don't wish to become ash." Luckily the spider had common sense that most people in the magical world seemed to lack and ran away from the teenager with the glowing red eyes that looked two seconds away from killing it.
Shaking her head she walked up to the cup with a frown, Why had this been so easy? She had a bad feeling in her stomach but the only way for this stupid tournament to be over was for her to take the cup.
Reaching out she gripped the handle of it and felt a sinking feeling in her stomach when suddenly she was port-keyed out of the maze and into a graveyard.
She turned around, dropping the cup as she saw the name of the person's grave she was now standing on.
Tom Riddle
"Aw Fuck!"
