Chapter Three
Chief Vick couldn't quite believe how Lassiter had done it exactly, but she was impressed none the less. She had in her office the best team of deception experts in the entire U.S. and probably Europe as well.
"Hello Dr. Lightman. I am Chief Karen Vick, let me start off by thanking you and your team for coming. I am sure that Detective Lassiter has faxed over everything and you are more than capable of helping the DA in this difficult case."
Lightman nodded waving at the team giving quick introductions for each member. "My team will do their best. Each member brings their own set of skills to the table, all useful of course, but we will still need certain access to your employees, those directly involved in the case. And also speak to Mr. Bainsworth."
"Of course-"
"We will also need to commandeer one of your conference rooms and an interrogation room if you can."
"Everything you need will be provided so that we may swiftly put an end to this case. If you need anything feel free to let me know you can also ask my lead detectives: Detectives Lassiter and O'Hara for anything you may need."
Gillian nodded thanking the Chief, "There is also one more matter. It is a bit unorthodox but…"Fostered trailed off motioning for someone to enter from behind them. It was a young girl with brown hair and doe brown eye smiling shyly."
"Hello. I'm Emily… Lightman."
"Hi-" The chief said slowly before turning to look back at the group of grown ups.
"Right. That lil one is mine. See her mother was busy and it was my turn to have her this week so I brought her along. She will be quiet and will make sure to stay out of everyone's way. Right Em'."
"Yes. I won't get in the way at all. Chief." Emily said switching her gaze from her father to the chief of police.
"While a bit unusual. As a mother, I understand. However the police department isn't always the best place for a child. There will be some paper work for both of you to sign in this instance. I can also have one of my officers watch her." Karen told Lightman walking towards the door and calling our for an Officer McNab. Who came dashing right away.
Cal watched the man and after a few minutes declared he was trustworthy, if a bit naive.
"Hello, I am Officer McNab." the officer said before turning to the chief, "How can I help?"
"This is Emily you are to watch her and make sure she doesn't leave your sights when she is here. She is Dr. Lightman's daughter and we want to make sure that she is safe and as comfortable as she can in a police station."
"Of course, Chief. I can give her a quick tour and then we can go to the break room. Officer Dobson brought some donuts you can have some and if you would like something else I can also make a food run. No trouble." McNab told the chief before turning to Emily and leading her out of the chiefs office. Emily smiling and already asking questions about what kind of donuts they had.
Lightmans eyes followed her out before returning back to the chief "Thank you. We would also like to get started as soon as possible so if you could lead us to one of your interrogation rooms and have your lead detectives meet us there it would really speed things along. Torres and I will go over the events that happened with them, while Dr. Foster and Loker will go to the DA's office to speak to Mr. Bainsworth and the psychological expert you had originally diagnose him. We will also need to speak to your consultants from the Psych detective agency. Hopefully after lunch."
