...
Surprisingly enough, his professor hadn't come back following his abrupt leave- To the point, Rodrick had elected to leave the office, given he doubted sticking around unsupervised was going to do him any favors in the man's eyes.
It had been a few days since the... Reveal? Could it even be called that?
It wasn't like he was sure he was a seer or not as he'd only ever really received the one vision and none since, he'd simply figured it to be a good enough cause for his panic attack, as the truth regarding its origin wasn't something he wished to reveal.
He'd rather be known as an unreliable 'seer' as opposed to Gellert freaking Grindelwald's only kin.
Though the mind shield aspect his professor had run into was going to be a problem to explain- Though it'd require the man to admit he'd tried to read his mind, and even if he did, he could always claim it was an aftereffect of his semi-non-existent seer powers.
Wasn't like there was a book to prove such a thing didn't exist after all...
He really hoped there wasn't a book to prove he was lying through his teeth-
-utrageous! This is utterly insane!" Malfoy's voice washed over him as he entered the common room, the blonde was currently pacing around their first-year corner, a few of his classmates scattered around, all with varying expressions on their faces as the boy vented about some slight or another.
Spying Daphne among the rabble, the girl barely hiding her amusement from her seat on one of the sofas, he promptly set himself down beside her, quickly earning her attention.
The raised eyebrow told him she'd heard about his panic attack-
Truth be told he hadn't really left his shared dorm since meeting his professor, it was the weekend, which might've also had something to do with it.
"What's up with Malfoy?" He questioned easily.
The girl rolled her eyes at him.
"You're just going to walk past your... Two-day tantrum?" The girl remarked warily. "Blaise spilled." She added as an afterthought.
He considered the words for a moment before shrugging.
"Yeah pretty much," He deadpanned, before nodding his head towards the still pacing blonde. "So, Malfoy?"
She blinked a few times at his words before letting out a sigh.
"You okay?"
He nodded wordlessly in response.
She held his gaze for a moment before letting out another sigh and shaking her head.
"Apparently he got caught spying on Potter and company around Hagrid's hut," The girl snorted. "After curfew."
He tilted his head at that.
"What'd he find?"
"Oh you know, everyday things a Hogwart's resident half-giant might have-"
Hagrid was a half-giant?
...Was he the only one who hadn't noticed, or bothered to ask?
How... Did... He blinked a few times. The difference in size must've been...
He considered asking his grandfather about the... Practicalities of such a union.
"-a few spiders, some stone candy, a baby dragon-"
He did a double-take at the last one, watching as the amusement and exasperation on the girl's face grew.
"...A dragon?"
"A baby dragon." The girl clarified.
"A dragon..." He tested the word on his mouth. "There was a fire-breathing dragon in a wooden hut?"
The girl's eyes widened the slightest bit before her expression fell into a giggle.
"Oh, Merlin! I hadn't even considered that part!"
There was a dragon on the castle grounds.
There was something seriously wrong with this school.
"...So what, Malfoy snitched and got into trouble himself?"
"Got into trouble as well." The girl clarified again. "Which is, you know a little unfair but pretty funny." The girl remarked, shaking her head whimsically. "Hogwarts right?"
"Right..." He deadpanned.
Forget worrying about his name being figured out.
There was a dragon in the castle and he hadn't noticed.
Yeah... His name just dropped in priority... Surviving the crazy school for the next seven years just took over.
And as if on cue with the thought, Malfoy promptly turned his attention towards him as he took a few steps in his direction, before abruptly pointing a finger at him.
"This is all your fault!"
He didn't dignify that with a response, instead leveling the blonde with a deadpan look.
Some of the bravadoes seemingly left the boy's face as he retracted his finger.
"...If you'd just come along I wouldn't be in this mess- Could've just pushed Potter down the moving staircase instead but no-"
Daphne's jaw briefly dropped at the words, an incredulous expression taking over her face.
He twitched a few times himself.
Malfoy, on noticing said expressions, sneered at Greengrass and returned to pinning him with a look.
"The professor said I can bring anyone with me to the detention-" Malfoy crossed his arms. "You're coming with!"
He laughed at that particular idea.
Who knew Malfoy had a sense of humor?
Twitching at him, the blonde uncrossed his arms. "Look, just come along and... I'll owe you a favor, how's that sound?"
"A favor?" Daphne promptly remarked, surprised, a wary expression taking over her face. "Must be a hell of a detention..." The girl remarked, briefly turning towards him with a look.
"...It's in the Forbidden Forest... Potter's bringing his own friends..." The blonde fidgeted on his feet. "You're a crazy first year so I figured you'd fit right in,"
...Hogwarts detentions were held in the Forbidden Forest?
Seriously... What the hell was wrong with this school!?
"Okay, favor aside, that is not how you ask someone for help," The girl beside him harrumphed. "He's not crazy at all-"
"He dueled a troll, Greengrass." The boy deadpanned.
"That's..." Daphne started before a frown filled her face. "That was different and you know it-"
Malfoy's hands clenched and unclenched as he levelled a look towards the girl beside him. "He can speak for himself, so do me a favor and stay out of this," The boy demanded, earning a rather irritated expression in return.
"Why not just ask one of the older years," He quickly interjected, not waiting for the girl to, more than likely, draw her wand.
The blonde scoffed.
"Please, if I offered them a favor they'd take it straight to my father," The boy paused. "You're an orphan, so, I figured whatever you'd want would be more manageable," The boy finished, waving a hand idly.
He didn't let the words get to him- Instead, he forced a smile on his face and agreed.
He was certainly curious enough to see what the Forbidden Forest had to offer, and the Hogwarts staff was evidently willing to let him do it themselves.
Freaking crazy school.
The blonde frowned at his acceptance.
"Just so we're clear, my family can't make you a noble or anything like that!" A beat passed. "So don't ask for anything crazy,"
He rolled his eyes at the words.
"Oh believe me Malfoy, the entire Wizangamot couldn't ennoble my family, even if they wanted to," He snorted as he stood up from the seat.
The blonde's frown deepened.
"...Not really," Nott chose that moment to interject- He honestly hadn't even realized the boy was there, to begin with! "A few Pureblood family approvals is all it would really take... As long as you have some pure blood in you-"
He turned a look towards the boy and kept a smile on his face.
"I know how it works, and as far as pure blood goes, I am as pure as they come," Pure freaking insane went unsaid. He promptly started walking off towards the entrance. "Still stand by my words."
Daphne was quick to follow him, a concerned look on her face for some reason.
...He probably should've mentioned he was going to the bathroom.
"...Why do I feel like I just made a mistake?" Draco's voice filtered throughout his background, earning a snort of amusement from him.
