AN: Well, here's a neglected story. Honestly, I always figured this was one of my more niche stories, but I was surprised to see that it's still getting a good number of views on a regular basis. And people keep asking me when I'm going to write more of it. So I decided to dig deep, and see if I could pull something together. And I did, which was also surprising.
Truth be told, this story is near and dear to me. Its a mish-mash of a bunch of different things I like, which makes writing it extremely fun in a very self-indulgent way. And I've taught myself a lot of things in writing it that I've been able to use in writing my subsequent stories. There is one problem, however, and it's the main reason I don't give this story more attention. Basically, I don't really know where this story is going in the long term. I initially wrote it as a bit of self-indulgent fun, it was an excuse to play around with characters I like using tokusatsu-genre tropes, and it also gave me a way of taking a break from writing Aces Wild, which was my primary concern at the time. I wasn't expecting to do more than a few chapters of it, but people kept on liking it, so I kept on adding to it. But I never planned out a long term plot for the story, so the till is running a little dry on what else I can do with it. I got this chapter, and I think I have one or two more chapters I can do for this mini-arc. But after that, my ability to continue updating this story is basically dependent on whether or not I can figure out what I want to do going forward.
So in short, if you like this story, I'm glad you do, because I like it too. But I can't guarantee when it'll be updated again beyond the next chapter or so. It's not canceled, but it will effectively be on hiatus until I figure out a game plan for it. Anyway, enjoy the chapter.
It was amazing what people could get used to, given enough time. An attack on par with a natural disaster is terrifying the first time it happens. Possibly even the second, or third time for that matter. However, when such things begin to happen on a weekly basis, even a disaster of that magnitude simply becomes another part of the routine. Go to work, head for home. Take a detour to pick up that milk you've been meaning to grab for the better part of the—whoops, better swerve around that giant boot. Gee, is it Thursday already? Better call the wife and tell them to put some foil on dinner before bringing it down to the shelter.
Such was the case on this occasion when Royal Woods found itself threatened by yet another gargantuan woman. Those who were keeping track (which social media revealed was a fairly popular pastime), would note that it was of the black-spandex-clad variety.
"MWA HA HA HA!" Cackled the giantess, as she reveled in the destruction she was causing, crushing cars and kicking over smaller buildings with a depraved sort of glee, and a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. Onlookers, before and after the attack (but not during, because that would be silly), would note that this particular specimen was a newcomer to these proceedings, with tanned skin and long, wavy brown hair that covered up one eye, but seemingly did not appear to impede her vision.
"RRRRRAH!" She grunted, ramming her fist into a nearby skyscraper, chuckling darkly as she punched straight through the structure with little effort. But then, her expression turned dour. She extracted her fist from the building, absentmindedly flicking the hand from side to side, shaking dust and debris from it as she took in her surroundings, the scowl on her face growing deeper as she realized what was bothering her.
"Where the heck is everyone!?" She muttered to herself as she peered around, squinting her eyes in the vain hope of spying some kind of onlooker. "What's the point in smashing up the city if there aren't any tinies around to watch you do it?"
Per the emergency protocol that Royal Woods had passed weeks earlier, in the event of a giantess attack or related supernatural occurrence, all citizens were to immediately relocate to one of the many shelters that had been constructed around the city, and wait for the all clear. Citizens had taken to the protocol like a city of aquatic creatures to a proportionately body of hydrogen-rich liquid, quickly becoming adept at spreading word of an incipient, or in-progress incident, dropping whatever they were doing, and relocating to the nearest shelter. It had actually become a rather popular event, among the populace. An attack was the perfect excuse to blow off whatever you were doing and hang out in a cushy, underground bunker for an hour or two. You caught up with your friends and neighbors, munched on whatever snacks people could scrounge up during the evacuation phase, then kicked back and took advantage of the big screen TVs every shelter was equipped with to watch the action-packed fight that would break out once one of the city's equally large, color-coded heroines showed up to battle the villain.
Presumably, this had slipped the girl's mind as part of the dopamine rush that came with getting to be the aggressor for once, instead of merely watching them from afar. Contrary to what she thought, however, she was not quite as alone as she believed herself to be. In addition to the cameras that had been set up throughout the city for official purposes, there were also a number of privately owned devices capturing their own feeds in real-time, and every one of them with a line of sight to her was trained directly on her.
By the end of the night, the internet would be rife with digital scholars perusing the ill-gotten gains of these unauthorized feeds, and enraging in spirited discussion regarding the new girl, what plans the future might hold for her, and the way her spandex clung enticingly to her sizeable bust.
"What am I supposed to do now?" The girl mused to herself, absentmindedly kicking at the already brutalized building. Her face momentarily lit up as a chunk broke off the lower portion, tumbling to the ground with a satisfying THUNK, and causing the structure to momentarily sway before righting itself, but the deafening silence that followed her act of distraction put a frown back on her face.
"This isn't gonna do it." She grumbled, scuffing her black-booted foot on the pavement. "Boss-lady said I had to lure out—"
"Stop that, Mean Girl!"
"Jackpot!" The villainous thought with glee, as she spun around and found herself face to face with a towering blonde, already in battle stance. Chuckling menacingly, the girl clenched her fist, cracking each and every knuckle individually.
"I'm gonna enjoy this," She muttered, before raising her voice to address the new arrival. "Bout time you got here! Oh, and you're the green one! Awesome, I was hoping it'd be you."
"It's...actually more of a sea green." Said the blonde, tugging absentmindedly at her own spandex, completely oblivious to the resounding chorus of mechanical noises as every camera in the area turned their focus to her. "But you're new, right? So I guess you wouldn't know that. Ooh! We should introduce ourselves! My name's—"
"Dead!" Bellowed the other girl, lunging forward and launching a haymaker directly into the older girl's face. To her surprise, however, her opponent simply side-stepped the attack, leaving the girl swinging at empty air. Gritting her teeth in frustration, she whirled around and found the green-clad heroine with her head tilted quizically to the side.
"Um...nooo?" She remarked, frowning thoughtfully. "I'm pretty sure that's not it. I—EEP"
"It's not what you are!" Grunted the brunette as she renewed her assault, swinging wildly and growing increasingly frustrated as her opponent seemed to effortlessly glide out of the way of her attacks. Realizing this wasn't working, she cocked her fist, and feinted another blow at her opponent's face—
—only to pull out of the attack, and instead, go for a leg sweep. There was a certain satisfaction derived from the way her enormous appendage sent cars and trees flying every which way, but the heroine simply hopped over the attack and landed lightly on her feet.
THOOM
Or, at least, as lightly as a building-sized teenager could manage.
Panting from exertion, and frustrated at how easily her attacks had been repulsed, the black-clad villainous pulled back to reassess the situation—
CLAP, CLAP, CLAP
—Only to freeze up, as the sound of extremely loud slow clapping filled the air.
"I had a feeling you wouldn't stick to the plan, kid." Said a voice belonging to neither combatant. As if by magic, another giant brunette strode out from behind a nearby building, and once again the cameras found themselves new prey, this time focusing on the way the newcomer's spandex highlighted her prominent backside.
"Fiona!" Cried the blonde in delight, waving frantically to the friend with whom she currently had a very complicated relationship. "It's so good to see you!"
"Good to see you too, Leni," Said Fiona, with a wry smile. She then turned her attention to the other brunette, and her face adopted a more characteristically dour expression. "What's the deal, newbie? You had pretty clear instructions to work with."
"I...I thought I could take her," The girl admitted, grudgingly. "I mean, just look at her!"
She gestured at Leni, who was still waiving so frantically that her arm had been reduced to a green and white blur.
"She's so...punchable! How was I supposed to know she could actually defend herself!"
"Probably because we covered that in the morning meeting." Fiona deadpanned, before turning back to Leni. "Sorry about that, Leni. I mean, interns, right? What are you gonna do?"
"I...honestly wouldn't know," Leni said with a shrug. "So anyway, what's this whole...plan...thing, about?"
"It's pretty simple, actually," The brunette replied, quickly shooting a dirty look at her junior, before turning back to Leni. "Basically, I'm going to stand over here."
Fiona casually walked over to the pair stopping behind Leni, and leaving her standing between the two villainesses.
"And then what?" Leni asked, blinking in confusion.
"And then...well, that's kinda it," Fiona said, performing a quick flourish with her hands. "You're trapped. Here. Uh...between us. Now that we have the new girl, there's two of us. So now we outnumber you, and we have the advantage. Basically."
"But...weren't there already two of you?" Queried Leni, counting off on her fingers. "There's you, Fiona, and that other girl. The mean one."
She paused, taking in the seemingly perpetual scowl on the new girl's face.
"I mean the other, other mean one." She corrected herself. "The one who gets all silly around Linky. Maggo? Maggoo? Marg—"
"Just...gonna nip that one in the bud," Fiona interjected, cutting her off. "And yes, Leni. But you normally have one of your sisters around."
"Uh uh," The blonde nodded.
"But now you don't."
"Right."
"Because she's probably off dealing with Maggie, who's on the other side of the city."
"Stands to reason."
"Leaving you here. Alone. With the—"
"HIYAAA!" Cried the other girl, jerking forward to attack the presumably distracted Leni. However, she abruptly halted her movement mid-battle cry. Because at some point between her making the conscious decision to launch her sneak attack on the unsuspecting blonde, and the start of said attack, Leni's delicate, gloved fist had seemingly materialized right underneath the girl's chin.
"Uhhhhh…" She droned, her eyes crossing as she tried to process this sudden turn of events.
"Leni Punch," Replied the Loud heroine, raising her fist and boop-ing the girl on the chin. There was a burst of viridian light, and the girl was launched upward, flying high into the sky until she vanished from sight. A moment later, a short, black explosion popped off, far into the stratosphere, and then...nothing.
"—two...of us," Fiona concluded, letting out a heavy, annoyed sigh. "Well, so much for that."
"Huh." Said Leni, absentmindedly clenching and unclenching her fist. "I...kinda thought there was gonna be more to...that. Like, she seemed really tough, and stuff."
"Right?" The brunette flung out her hands in frustration. "That's why we hired her in the first place! Well...not hired, exactly, that implies we're paying her. But you know what I mean."
"Did...did she even have a name?"
Fiona frowned thoughtfully. "I'm pretty sure it was...Taylor? I put in an order for a name tag with that name. And...I mean, I guess it'd have to be her, right?"
"Huh." Said Leni again, squinting her eyes as she peered up at the sky. "You think she's coming back?"
"Probably not," Fiona admitted. "It looked like she exploded. And whenever I explode like that, I end up back at the office at my normal size. So, I'm guessing she's done."
"That's...weirdly unsatisfying." Leni mused, shrugging to herself before she turned her attention back to her friend. "So, are we done? Or do we still gotta fight?"
"Honestly, I'd kind of rather just slink away, and pretend this miserable failure never happened. But my boss will be pretty ticked off if I just leave, so maybe we could just fight—"
"Leni Kick!"
"H-HEY!" Fiona exclaimed as the Loud girl kicked her in the shin, causing her to hop up on one foot and gingerly massage her aching leg. "Not yet!"
"Oops. Sorry, Fiona."
Fiona glared at her friend, but as usual, Leni was the picture of innocence, only looking concerned for her injured friend."
"It's...fine, Leni," She said, gritting her teeth in annoyance. "Look, let's just throw some punches, I'll smash a few cars, and we'll call it a day alright?"
"Okay."
"Just wait until I say go—"
"Leni Punch!"
"Huh," Said Maggie, squinting as she caught sight of a small, black puff of smoke popping off high in the sky. "I wonder what that's about."
"Hey! Don't try and change the subject!"
"Riiiight, right." The black-haired girl sighed and turned her attention back to the brunette titaness clad in eye-blindingly bright yellow spandex. "So what was your whole...deal...again?"
"I'm here to stop your evil scheme!" Luan declared, dramatically pointing upward as a single ray of sunlight dropped down and enveloped her like a makeshift spotlight. "For you see—!"
"Right, right," Maggie interjected as Luan was in the process of changing poses, causing the comedienne to wobble unsteadily as her momentum was abruptly cut off. "Schemes...and such. Hey. Um. Any chance you...might know...what...those...are?"
"Oh, wait!" She said suddenly, just as Luan opened her mouth to reply. Maggie leaned over towards a nearby building, and flicked one of her index fingers against a window pane, shattering it into tiny pieces with an audible crash.
"There," She said, dusting off her hands as she straightened up. "Scheme...completed, or whatever. "So we're done here, right? I'll just head back to the office and punch out, and...well, I guess I'll see you later when I swing by your house. Not that you have to be there. It'd...probably be better if you weren't, actually, but you always seem to be around, so—"
"That!" Luan shouted, jabbing one accusing finger at the situationally emo teen. "That's what I'm here to stop!"
"...I don't follow," Maggie replied, frowning thoughtfully.
"Ugh," Luan groaned, slapping her hand over her face in annoyance. "Stop dating my brother, or I'll punch you. A lot. His life is complicated enough as it is, and he doesn't need it to be more complicated by you butting in and bringing your whole...villain agenda, thing, with you. Whatever it is you guys are trying to do."
"Ooooh." Maggie nodded in understanding. "Yeah, okay. But...no. I'm not going to do that. I don't have any...evil plans, or whatever for Lincoln. I just like him."
"A-although…" She added, her normally pallid skin suddenly flushing crimson, "There's a few...evil...things, I wouldn't mind him doing to me."
"Gross," Luan deadpanned, shaking her head in disgust. "Seriously, stop dating my brother!"
"You stop dating your brother!" Maggie shot back. "Seriously, how am I the bad guy here? I'm the closest thing to a normal girlfriend he's got!"
"I saw him first!" Luan retorted. "And...shut up! We were making it work just fine before you showed up! So butt out!"
"Make me!"
"Fine!"
The two towering teens strode towards each other, the ground quaking at their every step, their every footfall leaving cracks and indentations in the street, all of which were mere byproducts of the awesome power each was capable of bringing to bear. Once they closed the distance, each girl settled into a fighting stance, and prepared themselves. And then, as if by some unspoken signal, they charged each other—
"HAAAAAAA!"
"HIIIYAAAAA!"
—and their epic battle began.
Back at the Loud house, Lincoln froze in place, a kernel of popcorn halfway to his lips, his eyes bulging wide with surprise as he watched the live broadcast of the battle taking place downtown.
SLAP
SLAP SLAP
"HEY!"
...well, "battle" was one word, that could be used, he supposed. Then again, he wasn't sure there was a proper word to describe two giant girls wildly flailing their arms at each other.
SLAP SLAP SLAP
"OW! MY EYE!"
"HEY! NO HAIR PULLING!"
Lincoln shook his head, uncertain how he was feeling, and sunk back into the couch cushions. A gentle tap on his shoulder drew his attention to the girl sitting companionable next to him.
"Pass the popcorn, little bro," Said Lori, gesturing as the bowl currently sitting in his lap.
"O-oh, sure." Lincoln shifted his weight and managed to lift up the bowl with his one good arm, awkwardly pushing it towards his sister as best he could.
"See?" Lori asked as she took the bowl from him. "I told you it'd be fine if you stayed home and rested up."
She gently tapped the large cast currently engulfing his other arm for emphasis.
"The girls have got this. Mostly. Especially Leni, who's...weirdly good at this superhero thing."
Lincoln frowned in concern but nodded hesitantly.
"Leni, definitely." He said. "She handled that like a champ. But, Luan…"
"OW! MY BOOB!"
SLAP SLAP
"OW! MY BOOB!"
"I'm not so certain about."
Snorting in bemusement, Lori reached her arm around Lincoln and pulled him close. The boy immediately gave in, resting his head against his big sister, and the pair sat there in quiet contentment, watching the epic slap-fightery that was taking place downtown with only moderate concern between the two of them.
