Beginning A/N: I know that this particular story is one that's a work in progress, but I wanted to start on a reaction fic for this story and try to improve my ability to write character reactions for stories like this. So, I hope that you enjoy this story, and I hope to see some constructive criticism to help me make the story better.
A/N 2: Keep in mind that the events of the main story will have already happened. So, the gathered characters are, basically, watching the past.
Disclaimer: I don't own Maximum Ride or How To Train Your Dragon!
A Mysterious Theater!
Working in the forge was a young woman who was about fifteen years old, though she was very tall for her age. She had light skin, wavy, blonde-streaked hair that reached her mid-back, and brown eyes. She was wearing typical Viking clothes which consisted of a red tunic with a white, bearskin vest over it, a brown, leather battle skirt over a pair of black pants, and a pair of simple fur boots. She was currently hammering away at some dents and pieces of a set of metal gauntlets and boots that were laying on an anvil and desk. The boots and gauntlets themselves looked like they were inspired by Iron Man's armor and were colored silver-white and blue with red trim, and the gauntlets looked like a combination of Iron Man's gauntlets from his MK Thirteen armor, and Wolverine's gloves complete with three retractable claw blades located in the knuckles.
This girl is Maximum Ride. Just call her Max.
She hummed the song 'Southern Nights' as she worked on her armor and weapons, happy to be doing something productive with her time. She had taken to blacksmithing just like her boyfriend, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III. Speaking of whom…
"Well, good afternoon, Milady!" Hiccup greeted as he entered the forge.
Max's smile grew as she turned around to look at the young man who had won her heart. The man who had become her rock after she was kicked out of the Flock so long ago. She didn't even care that he had a pegleg now, as it just served to show that he was a blooded warrior. Just like she was. Besides, she loved him for who he is, not for what he looks like.
"Hey, Love! What'cha doing here?" Max asked.
"Oh, just got back from a flight with Toothless and Dawn and thought I'd stop by and see how my favorite bird kid is doing." Hiccup replied before asking, "So, what have you been up to all day?"
"Oh, just trying to fix up my gauntlets and boots. I'm also reinforcing the claws in my gauntlets. They keep warping every time I unsheathe them, and I can't figure out why." Max explained.
Hiccup just stared at her with a goofy smile, drawing a giggle from the winged blonde girl.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Max asked.
"Oh, I was just remembering the day I first laid eyes on you." Hiccup replied. "You fell from the sky in a ball of fire, crash-landed on Berk, and then joined me on an adventure that finally brought the end of the war between Vikings and dragons."
Max frowned as she looked down at Hiccup's leg. Much like how Toothless lost his tailfin when Hiccup shot him down, Hiccup had also lost one of his legs in the battle against the Red Death. He now walked using a special prosthetic made by Gobber while she and Hiccup had been unconscious.
He was the youngest amputee in all of Berkian history.
She was snapped out of her thoughts by Hiccup wrapping his arms around her in a hug.
"Max, I know what you're thinking, and I want you to stop that line of thinking. What's happened has happened and we can't change that, but you can't keep blaming yourself. What happened that day wasn't your fault." Hiccup firmly said. "Besides, at least it wasn't my head."
Despite the rather grim mental image of Hiccup literally losing his head in battle, Max couldn't help but smile.
"Well… you'd certainly be a lot quieter." she quipped.
"Ah, there's the smart aleck bird kid I know and love!" exclaimed Hiccup. "Come here, you!"
Max was taken by surprise as Hiccup brought her into a chaste kiss that she eagerly returned as she closed her eyes and unfurled her wings, wrapping them around her boyfriend in an attempt to bring him closer to her. And watching the whole thing go down from outside the forge were Toothless, the Night Fury who Hiccup shot down with his Mangler before it was destroyed, and Dawn, the heterochromic Light Fury who was Max's dragon. The two dragons looked on at their riders' display of affection towards each other.
This was part of the human mating process, right?
Should they expect eggs soon?
They wouldn't get that answer as a blinding flash of light appeared on Berk and in the blink of an eye, every last man, woman, child, and dragon on the island vanished!
~Unknown Location~
With a flash of light, all of Berk had arrived in a strange room, though nobody could see what it looked like just yet as their eyes were still adjusting.
"WHAT IN THOR'S NAME JUST HAPPENED?" roared Stoick as he rubbed his eyes.
"Ugh, that was almost as bad as the portal I flew into when I first arrived on Berk." Max complained as she was seeing spots.
"Well, it could be worse. We could all be puking our guts out after that." Hiccup commented.
"That would certainly be unpleasant." said a new voice.
Everyone jumped from being startled as the voice appeared out of nowhere, when a door suddenly opened up and in walked a man. He wore an all-black uniform with a black, hooded cloak with the hood covering his head. A shadow from the hood hid his features from the nose up. Slung across his back was what appeared to be a rather large and ornate skeleton key that Max recognized as the Oblivion Keyblade from Kingdom Hearts. Hey, don't judge her for playing videogames! She likes that old Disney series game, alright?
"Oh, good. Everyone's here." the man said.
Stoick stepped forward, looking imposing as he glared down at this hooded man.
"I am the Chief of Berk, Stoick the Vast! Tell us who you are and why you've brought us here!" he demanded.
"Well, you could have asked nicely." the hooded man quipped. "I won't tell you my real name, but you can call me by the name of my weapon, Oblivion. As to why I've brought you here, it's quite simple. You are here to watch events of the past in the form of a movie. Specifically, Max and Hiccup's past."
That surprised everyone. This man had the power to show them the past? 'Is he some sort of god?' was the thought that ran through almost every mind in the room at the moment.
Fishlegs raised his hand and asked, "Um, Mister Oblivion, sir? What exactly is a movie?"
"A movie is a set of moving pictures with sound that are used to tell a story. Think of it like a play, if that makes sense." Oblivion replied. "Now, then…"
With a wave of his hand, rows of comfortable looking chairs appeared in the room as the wall behind Oblivion became a very large screen like the ones used in movie theaters. Something that brought a wave of nostalgia to Max as she remembered the first time that she had actually been to a movie theater. And then she started repressing those thoughts as she remembered what had happened soon after.
"All of you go ahead and get comfortable. I still have to go and bring in our remaining guests before we begin the movie. I'll be back in ten minutes maximum." Oblivion instructed.
He walked towards a corner and, to everyone's shock, seemed to melt into the shadows before disappearing! Everyone looked around and mumbled quiet conversations. Just what in Odin's name was going on?
***To Be Continued…***
Ending A/N: And that's it for this chapter! It's shorter than I would have preferred, but I wanted to focus more on the dialogue for the actual reaction scenes. Next chapter is when the story really kicks off. I hope that you all enjoy this new story! Please don't forget to vote on the poll on my profile if you haven't already, and I hope you all have a splendid day!
