5 years later
The past 5 years for Naruto were...interesting to say the least. Kakashi became a gennin shortly after his departure on long term mission, had joined a gennin team with a girl named Rin, a goofy kid named Obito and their sensei was Minato. He liked Obito, he was kind. A lot nicer than any Uchiha he's met. Rin wasn't so bad either but she was so oblivious when it came to Obito's feelings. He and Minato became good friends after his return from the mission. Even if he hated to admit it, they were practically best friends.
Tsunade was still head at the hospital, Nawaki was a gennin, Jiraiya was still Jiraiya, and Hiruzen was still going strong. On the surface everything was good but the roots of the village were starting to corrupt.
He already met with Danzo earlier. If he didn't trust the man before, he damn sure didn't trust the man now. But to Naruto, trust could only go so far so he really didn't care about it. He became the right hand man of Danzo and had seen the vile things the man was willing to do for power.
Or for the 'good of the leaf' as Danzo liked to preach. He was currently at the Senju compound going through Tobirama's old notes. He took an admiration to his ancestor. The man was the ultimate shinobi in his opinion.
Was willing to get something done by any means necessary. He already knew the show clone technique. While useful, it practically drained you of your chakra unless you were a jinchuriki. He thought about learning the Hiraishin but gave it to Minato due to him already being a speed freak and being advanced in fuinjutsu. 'The perks of having an Uzumaki as your girlfriend' he mused.
He then noticed another paper. Picking it up, he read over the purpose of the jutsu and smirked. "Edo Tensei huh?"he said.
Currently in the Hokage's office stood Minato, Jiraiya, Tsunade and Orochimaru. Hiruzen was at his desk smoking his pipe. "Uh sensei is there any reason that you called us here? I was kind of busy"asked a slightly annoyed Jiraiya. Hiruzen chuckled. "And i suppose you were doing what exactly?"asked Tsunade in a sweet voice. He put his hands up in a defensive manner. "Nothing Hime, nothing at all."
"Would you two stop your bickering. Even after all of these years, both of you are still insufferable" said Orochimaru. They both just glared at the pale man.
" Ah yes well there's recently been a call for a Kage summit and of course I will be attending. I was going to ask 2 of you to volunteer as my guards to the summit."
Jiraiya frowned. "Who was the one who requested it?"he asked. "It appears to be the old fence sitter Onoki"Hiruzen replied. "Well I don't have anyone as a suitable replacement to run the hospital. Shizune is still in training so I can't go"replied Tsunade.
Hiruzen nodded at that and looked to the 3 men in the room. "Well I don't mind going. I'd just have to tell my team prior to my departure" said Minato. "Well I for one hate going to the land of iron so I guess I can look after the village until you get back"replied the grinning pervert.
"There's no way that Sarutobi Sensei would let a fool like you lead the village"replied a smirking Orochimaru. "Can it Orochi-teme!" yelled an indignant Jiraiya. "Wait how come Naruto isn't here?"asked Tsunade. At this the 3 jonnin perked up. "Yeah where is Naruto? He's been rather distant lately" asked Minato. Hiruzen took another puff of his pipe and spoke.
"Naruto is a special case. I'm sure that all of you know that he's an Anbu captain. He would be a great candidate to ask but he's not exactly in the right state of mind." At this Tsunade gained a somber expression. She too noticed that something was off with her nephew.
"Well maybe Anbu isn't the best place for him"said a frowning Minato. Jiraiya nodding in agreement. "I think he's perfectly fine where he's at. That boy has quite the reputation"replied a chuckling Orochimaru.
But before the other 2 men could respond, Hiruzen spoke. "Since neither of you can come to a decision as to who is going and who will watch the village, both of you will come and Minato you'll stay and watch the village" said Hiruzen.
The two Sannin had different reactions. Jiraiya gained a depressed cloud over his head and the snake Sannin hissed. "And why does the brat get to have control over the village? I've been a shinobi longer than he's been alive"added a seething Orochimaru.
Minato just narrowed his eyes at the snake but chose to remain silent. "While he is inexperienced compared to the 3 of you, he's the smartest and most logical. I also need to show that Konoha still has it's strength and what better way to show this than with my own students?" said Hiruzen.
"Whatever"was all he got from Orochimaru. "We will leave in 2 days time. You should already know where to meet before departure" he added. They nodded and left the room. Hiruzen just sighed and leaned back into his chair. "You can come out now"he said to seemingly nothing.
With Orochimaru, he scowled. He was seething. 'What the hell is so special about that blonde haired brat!?' he thought angrily. He made his way to his underground base and entered. Making his way to the main room, he looked over his experiments.
He smirked. "Orochimaru-Sama, Danzo is here to see you" said a boy with grey hair and glasses. "Let him in Kabuto"replied the snake Sannin. Moments later Danzo entered. "I suspect that everything is coming along well?"asked the war hawk.
"Everything is in order. As long as you hold up your end to the bargain, I will do as such "replied Orochimaru. The man nodded as they continued to discuss things.
At training ground 7, a team could be seen training. 'Firestyle fireball jutsu!' said one boy. 'Water style water wall!' exclaimed the other. When the attacks collided and smoke filled the air. When it cleared. Kakashi could be seen pinning down another boy.
"You lose again Obito" he said. Said boy just huffed as Kakashi helped him up. "I would've won, I just don't have my sharingan yet" he replied. Kakashi just rolled his eyes.
"I think you did really good Obito. I mean Kakashi is a chunnin so you shouldn't feel that bad" said a girl with shoulder length brown hair and purple lines mirroring each side of her face. Obito blushed at the compliment.
"Hehe you think so Rin" he replied cheekily. Just then Minato appeared. "Minato sensei, what did Lord third want?"asked Rin. "Well there's an upcoming Hokage summit and I was tasked to lead the village in his absence." "Wait so that means you're technically Hokage!?"asked a surprised Obito.
Minato laughed. "Well yes and no. It's only until Lord third returns" he replied. "No fair. How come I wasn't asked? I'm the perfect candidate"he exclaimed. "2 reasons, one you're still a gennin and 2 you're an idiot"added Kakashi. Obito just glared at the chunnin.
"Take that back baka!"he yelled. Kakashi tapped his chin in a thinking manner "hmmmm, how about no"he replied. Just as Obito was about to attack Minato spoke. "This means that we won't be taking missions as a team until the Hokage returns. Which means I expect all of you to train well."
The 3 kids nodded. "Hai sensei"they said in unison. And before Minato left, he turned to Kakashi. "If you see Naruto, tell him I wanna speak with him." Kakashi nodded and with that Minato was gone in a flash. "I wish I could teleport"mumbled a jealous Obito. "I'll see you two later" said Kakashi. As he walked away Obito turned to Rin. She gasped.
"Obito your face!" she pointed at the cut. "Oh this, it's nothing. It'll take a lot more than that to harm the future Hokage!"he replied. She frowned and grabbed his hand and walked him to a bench near the clearing.
He blushed upon the contact but got nervous when he noticed her frown. "Uh is there something wrong Rin?"he asked. "Yes, you can't be reckless, you'll get hurt out in the field" she said. He looked down at this. She took out a first aid kit and patched him up.
"You know Rin, you saving me is really the same as you saving the world. For me to do that I have to stay strong and healthy in this world. And for me to do that, you have to watch over me" he said looking down blushing. She just smiled. "Of course Obito, I'll watch over you."
