A/N: Hey everyone, thanks for reading so far. Just letting you know I wrote a small Death Note oneshot called Absolution. It's not related to this fic, and it's about Light and Misa. Feel free to check it out if you want.

"Would you say he's… intense?" the angel asked.

"You mean my brother?" Sayu laughed. "He's more than a little intense. He's, like, super serious about studying. Like, he literally breathes studying. I don't think he can live without it."

"That must concern you," the angel replied.

Sayu shrugged. "Well, hey, he's a homework genius. I can't complain about that."

Believe it or not, Dad was home for a change. Especially with all the Kira stuff happening, Dad wasn't home that often. So, dinner was a little less lonely than usual.

Dad looked pretty tired, which… was understandable. Bags were under his eyes, and his hands were shaky.

(I wanted to tell Dad that there was nothing to worry about. I had the Life Note. If Kira killed him, I could bring him back to life.)

Light and I were sitting next to each other with our food, facing Mom and Dad. Mom looked concerned too; she kept gazing over at Dad, her brow furrowed.

"So, Light," Dad cleared the air, "how are your studies going?"

"Everything's okay, I guess," Light shrugged.

"Yeah, whatever," I spoke up. "He's at the top of his class. My big brother's a genius!"

"We're all very proud of you, Light," Mom agreed.

Light kept his face neutral. "You okay, Dad? You look tired."

"Yeah, the workload's been heavy," Dad replied. "I can't say too much about it, but the case I'm working on is really tough."

"The Kira investigation?" I asked.

"Yes," Dad furrowed his brow. He was staring at me. "You look awfully tired as well, Sayu."

I kept my eyes on my food. "Oh, uh, just been doing more late-night studying. I wanna catch up to Lightie, y'know!"

"Late-night studying?" Light asked. "Yeah right. Your grades haven't changed a bit."

I felt like he'd stabbed me with his chopsticks. Normally, a comment like that wouldn't even bother me, but… I was not feeling normal.

"Sorry we can't all be geniuses," I uttered.

That had come out a lot more bitter than I had intended. I stared down at my food, biting my lip. Guardian flew above me, reaching out a hand.

"Sayu Yagami!" Mom chastised. "Apologise!"

"Sorry, Lightie," I mumbled.

"Whatever," Light huffed, gazing at me from the corner of his eye. My lip quivered.

Dad breathed out. "Looks like this investigation is stressing us all out."

"It's really dangerous, Dad," I said. "You could die!"

"Anyone could die," Dad mused, "but if worst comes to worst… then I will take over the Kira investigation."

"Dad!" my voice choked up. "You can't!"

"She's right, dear," Mom reached out a hand. "It's far too dangerous…"

Light was scowling, his brow furrowed. He looked exactly like Dad; the same serious glare and everything. It made him look so old; everyone was always going on about how Light was 'so mature' and all that, and while I agreed, I didn't really understand it until right then and there. He wasn't just my brother, he was a child prodigy, a mega genius. If I had been Kira, I'd be shitting myself.

"Don't worry, Dad," he said. "If Kira kills you… then I'll hunt them down myself."

"Does that make sense?"

I stared at Light, shaking my head. He sighed.

"You simply have to add these together," he said, tapping his pencil against the page.

I whimpered, slumping back in my chair.

"Come on, Sayu," Light chided, "you have to focus."

Focusing was honestly the last thing I could do. My head was spinning all over the place.

I stared at the numbers, which just turned into unreadable mush. I banged my head against the desk.

Light sighed. "What's wrong, Sayu? You're never normally this repellent to homework."

I gazed up at him, my eyes watering. Oh, great. I was crying already.

"I… I dunno," I whimpered. "I… I'm really scared about all this Kira stuff, Lightie…"

"Sayu…" Light's expression softened. He squeezed my shoulder. "Don't worry about all of that. Kira will get caught soon. They're nothing more than a crazy serial killer; they won't last long."

"You really think so?" I asked.

"Of course," Light smiled. "Besides - from what we've seen - Kira only kills criminals. They wouldn't go after a random schoolgirl."

But I wasn't a random schoolgirl anymore. I had the Life Note, whether I liked it or not.

"What if Kira does start killing non-criminals?" I asked. "What if Kira kills the police? What if Kira kills Dad?! He's in the midst of the investigation!"

Light gazed at the ceiling for a moment. His brow was furrowed.

"Lightie…?" I asked.

"They won't kill Dad," Light narrowed his eyes, "because I'm going to catch Kira myself."

For the first time in a while, Light had a dark, cunning gleam in his eyes. I hadn't seen that look for a while. It always made me a little nervous. Whenever Light was planning something… welp, you never knew what to expect.

Despite all the worry, I grinned. "Well, if anyone can catch Kira… it's gotta be you, Lightie."

Light returned the grin. "Of course. So, let's get back into these equations, okay?"

I groaned. "Fine…"

Guardian was watching my every move, almost like a security camera. They floated over my shoulder.

"What?" I asked.

They were staring at my television. I was getting real sick of the Kira news so I was watching some Hideki Ryuga to try and relax and unwind.

Gosh, he's just… so perfect. Mei was messaging me about him - we really wanted to go and see him live when he came to the Kanto region. I giggled, kicking my feet. I couldn't stop imagining his eyes on me, his charming smile…

"You seem quite invested in this performance," Guardian noted.

"Well, duh, it's Hideki Ryuga!" I cried out. "He's, like, the best idol ever!"

Guardian just stared at me, blankly.

"C'monnn," I waved a hand. "Watch!"

Hideki danced around the screen, flashing that perfect grin. My cheeks were burning.

"Isn't he the hottest guy you've ever seen?!" I gushed.

"…" Guardian had nothing to say, so I'll assume they were too blown away to speak!

"Breaking news about the ongoing Kira investigation," the show was interrupted by a news broadcast.

"Oh come on!" I groaned. "I specifically watched Hideki Ryuga to get away from all this!"

"The killings continue as multiple visiting FBI agents were taken," the newscaster said.

I was getting sick again. I switched off the TV, throwing myself into bed.

"You know what you must do," Guardian reminded me.

I groaned. I stared at my hands.

FBI agents… they came to stop Kira…

That wasn't fair. They were not criminals.

"Light's wrong," I muttered. "Kira's killing innocents."

I was shaking like a leaf. But for once, I wasn't scared. I was pissed.

Who does Kira think they are?! I thought. There's no way I can let them get away with this.

I needed to find out the identities of those FBI agents. Maybe they were on Dad's computer? But I didn't know the first thing about hacking.

(Ugh. Light would know how to hack it.)

"I need to hack Dad's computer," I told Guardian. "That way, I can find out the names and faces of the FBI agents."

"I can assist with that," Guardian replied.

"Really?" I asked. "What are you, a master hacker?"

"I am here to provide assistance for you," Guardian told me.

"Super vague, but okay," I tilted my head.

Luckily, Dad wasn't home. As usual. Light was at one of his study thingies, and Mom was downstairs. She wouldn't even know.

I snuck into Dad's office, Life Note under my arm. It reeked of the strongest coffee imaginable. The desk was covered in papers of all kinds. I had to wonder how many late nights Dad had had there.

I opened up Dad's old computer. I waved off the dust.

"So?" I stared up at Guardian.

"Keep searching," they told me.

I groaned. I opened up some files, which were as barren as my brain after an exam.

"Locating…" Guardian waved their hands.

POOF! Lots of files, a huge list of names.

I swallowed. I couldn't do it. There were so many people.

… so many people… all people that Kira had killed. People that had been alive, people with families. My stomach was queasy. My rage was building. My hands trembled even further.

Kira, I thought, scrolling through the names. You disgusting monster… whoever you are, you deserve to rot in Hell forever.

Life Note in hand, I began writing down names.

It was all over the news. I was slumped over my desk, half-awake. Voices surrounded me, almost like dreams.

"THE FBI AGENTS ARE ALIVE!"

"They've been brought back from the dead…"

My eyes were closing.

"Could Kira be reincarnating those they've killed…?"

"Or maybe this is the work of someone else. Someone that's opposing Kira."

"You could dare say… an Anti-Kira."

I sat straight up. Protests signs were all over the news.

The Anti Kira.

"People…" I breathed. "They know me."
