A/N: Hey guys! Thank you so much for the incredible reviews on the last chapter, I got a lot of feedback which I appreciate so much. One thing that seemed to confuse some people were the jeans some character I described wore. Yes you guys were right, jeans were not as common during this time period, but some did wear it. Since the looks of Kirsti were based of of a real life person, I could only see her with jeans. A detail I didn't pay attention too :) And THANK YOU FOR THAT booking bookworms and 100reasonswhy.

Anyway, enjoy!

Chapter 10

Liesel flounced through the colorful street of Green Strasse wearing a long floral skirt up until her knees and a black long sleeves shirt. Her hair was tied into a messy bun and her face was scrunched into an infuriated expression. When she reached the house at the end of the street, she tensed her knuckles tight ready to bang on the door right in front of her when all of a sudden, it opened on it's own revealing a boy mirroring Liesel's expression.

"Hello, Liesel," the blonde headed boy politely said.

"How did you know I was coming?" she demanded.

Rudy narrowed his eyes at her. "I've got a window, you know?"

Liesel scanned Rudy from head to toe with a disgusted look on her face. "Well you have grown," she said sarcastically.

Rudy was now glaring at Liesel. "I saw you a week ago!"

"Oh really?" Liesel told him. "I wonder why I didn't see you before that."

Rudy snorted. "You wanted me to accompany Theo and you on a date?"

Liesel kicked Rudy in the shin. "Theo?" She remembered that boy from school the day Natasha was teasing her. "What are you talking about?"

Rudy's eyes darted away from Liesel. His voice grew quiet. "Don't play dumb with me, Liesel. I heard what Natasha said. You and Theo were getting together at the mayor's."

Liesel was shocked for a moment and then erupted into laughter. "Theo and me?" she said enjoying the pained look and Rudy's face. "You think I was at home all week because we were getting "together"?" Liesel was completely amazed on how gullible Rudy was. "You, Saukerl," she scolded Rudy in between laughs. "I got hurt in a bike accident last week. I was waiting for you to come visit. I don't even know who the hell Theo is." Liesel showed Rudy the scar on her elbow from the accident. His eyes grew wide from realization.

"That Natasha," he said shaking his head slowly. "I can't believe…"

Liesel erupted into laughter again.

"So how'd you get hurt?" Rudy asked Liesel. They were walking out of Green Strasse hand in hand.

"Well," Liesel said. "I was riding my bike home when a girl who was riding the opposite way ran into me."

"Are you sure you weren't the one who ran into her?" Rudy asked.

"Oh shut up, Rudy," Liesel scolded. "It's the same thing." He stifled a laugh.

"So who was the girl?" Rudy asked. "I bet you gave her a big piece of your mind. I would have paid anything to see that," he joked.

Liesel stopped in place suddenly remembering Kirsti and the entire incident.

Did Kirsti already speak to Rudy? Should Liesel ask him?

Rudy stopped and let go of Liesel's hand. "What's wrong?" Rudy asked.

She probably didn't, Liesel thought. She decided it was best to leave it to her.

"Nothing," said Liesel. She gulped. "Let's go."

They were walking across town hand in hand not speaking but just walking. It was one of the hottest days in Germany. May. About spring, the flowers were blossoming in different colors and getting ready for the summer. The air held a gentle breeze that danced slightly as they walked. They small talked a little chatting about their terrible teacher's and how Liesel should get revenge on Natasha. Rudy suggested she ride over her body with her bike or knock all of her teeth out.

"Nein," she told him with a smile on the corners of her lips. "I've got to plan that one out carefully."

The rest of the walk was pretty quiet. Liesel loved listening to the birds chirp and the birds fly above them. Despite it being Saturday, it was not very crowded around town. Store's were opened but no customers. She supposed it was just one of those day's where people decided to stay inside, despite the beautiful was Rudy who broke the silence between them all of a sudden. "Liesel," he asked. "Where are we going?"

Liesel bit her lip and looked up at Rudy. "No where in particular," she answered. "Like usual." It was true. Somedays, they just took walks around town and chatted about nothing in particular. It was not the lack of entertainment in town that made them have these strolls, but it was the fact that doing this would allow them to enjoy the presence of the other without getting distracted by something else. Or just talk to each other and have a normal time.

Rudy stopped in place. "I thought you were taking me somewhere!"

"Why the hell would I take you somewhere? I thought we were just going on a walk like old times," Liesel told him.

Rudy shook his head and let go of her hand abruptly. "Liesel, it's May. I can't afford to waste my time like this. We've got our final exams in month. If I want to get into a good college, I better be studying, not taking pointless walks around town!"

Liesel was shocked by his sudden outburst. "What? Now spending time with me is now pointless? Is it, Rudy?" she demanded harshly.

Rudy took a deep breath in. "It's not pointless," he snarled. "But at this point I need to be worrying about my future, okay?"

He started walking in the opposite direction leaving Liesel standing there alone without mentioning anything else. "So you'd rather be studying than spending time with me?"Liesel called out to Rudy.

It took a moment for him to register this. But when he turned around, his face looked quite distressed. "It's not that I don't want to, Liesel." His voice was quieter as if he was attempting to soothe her. "But, I've got such a good chance to get into a good college. I just don't want to miss it."

It was silent for a moment because Liesel couldn't counter that. She was really looking forward to spending these last months with Rudy before all changed.

"Exactly where are you planning on going?" she asked him.

Rudy didn't answer. He ruffled his hair and looked around as if he didn't hear her.

Liesel narrowed her eyes at him. "Where are you going?" she demanded loudly to him. Her temper started to rise dramtically.

"Humboldt!" he said yelled back to her. "Okay! I want to go to Humboldt!" He let out a heavy breath.

"Humboldt?" Liesel exclaimed. "That's all the way in Berlin, Rudy!

"I know!" he was yelling now too. "But it's one of the best colleges here. And I know I can get in."

Liesel felt betrayed. "Rudy, you can't go so far." She felt tears piling up in her eyes. "What about us?" she whispered.

Rudy drew a sharp breath in and his face grew stern. "See, this is exactly why I didn't want to tell you! I knew you would say something like this. "

"What do you mean by that?" Liesel yelled gratingly. "So you don't care about what happens to us at all? Huh? You were planning to leave me here all alone?"

Rudy shook his head. "That's not what I meant-"

"Yes, that's what you meant!" Liesel yelled. She started walking towards him. "You didn't give a second thought about us when you were planning on applying to Humbolt. Because it's all the way in Berlin. You didn't even think of me! And why should you, right?" Anger rose and fell like lava inside her throat. " Because you're quite intelligent and athletic. You can get into any place you'd want. You can become any thing you want." He stared at his shoes while he spoke. "While me? I can't! I'm not anything like you, Rudy!" His eyes were wide as he paid close attention but she continued. " Everyone I've touched," she was yelling now, tears streaming down her face and drenching the rim of her blouse, "everyone I've ever truly loved has died or left me for good. I thought you were different." She wiped her tears with the back of her hand and stared at the ground avoiding his eyes. "But I guess not."

It was quiet for a moment. Liesel took a deep breath in. She hadn't even realized what she said. It felt good, all of a sudden, to speak her mind, and let those thoughts that occupied her head and appeared in her nightmares be released. But when she looked back up at Rudy, his eyes were red and his face was rock hard, and instantly she regretted it. His lips trembled slightly, but he didn't make any words. They were both glued to the ground with mouths wide open but voices shut. But Liesel knew she had nothing left to say to him.

And when she walked away, he didn't bother to protest.
