A/N: Sorry it took so long to update but my fan fiction account wasn't working! Well, anyway LSFR is back and ready for a grande finalé so stay hooked!
The weather in Molching was actually quite unusual. It was slowly starting to heat up as summer soon arrived.
Liesel looked at Rudy as they walked long the path.
Rudy sighed. "You don't have to do this, Liesel."
"Do what?" she asked.
Rudy motioned to the path in front of them. "You don't need to walk me to school as if I were a six year old. Look, if this is because you feel guilty because you hit me-"
Liesel cut him off with a slight wave of her hand. Her right hand was looped around Rudy's as he slowly trudged along limping. "You honestly think I have a give and take policy, don't you? Do you ever think I might do something from the kindness of my heart?"
Rudy looked at her through the corner of his eyes. A small smile curved his tender lips that were white from the cold. "Now, I didn't imply that. What if you get late to school. Sister Maria would kill you."
Liesel adjusted her hair which was tangling due to the harsh morning wind. Small rock from the ground were chased by the blow and dust soon blew upon their faces.
Liesel coughed. "Oh, Sister Maria," she said. "She can go-"
"Watch it," Rudy warned.
"Im just saying," concluded Liesel. "She's never liked me."
Rudy sighed to himself. Liesel could see the ache in his leg was causing more pain than he displayed.
Rudy stopped in place in front of the school gates. He looked up in front of him. "I guess we'll figure out."
They trudged along the dark green grass of the school yard and onto the school pavement. Rudy and Liesel walked up the large staircase that lead inside the building and found their class across the hall.
Liesel looked at Rudy. "Please tell me you've been late before and Sister Maria didn't yell at you."
Rudy, with his right arm, pushed the door open. There was a loud squeaking noise and as they stepped inside. The entire class turned around and looked at them. Sister Maria, who was writing on the chalkboard looked looked at them and smiled. She glanced at the clock and cocked her eyebrows.
"Well, then," she announced. Her fat face looked unusually large today and her stringy hair was tied into a bun. "15 minutes late," she said. "I suppose you have a note."
Rudy stuffed his hand into his right pocket and pulled out a crumpled piece of paper. He handed in to the Sister. The entire class' eyes were on them. "And you, Liesel?"
Liesel threw Rudy a mean look. He didn't tell her that he had a note and that she needed one.
"Oh, Sister," said Liesel. She spoke slowly to formulate a plan in her mind. "I couldn't this morning because-"
"Actually," Rudy chimed. "This note is for both Liesel and me, Sister Maria."
Sister Maria's eyebrows went up. "For both of you? Well I don't see Liesel's name here. Unless, of course Liesel is having sleepovers at yours, Rudy."
The entire class started to laugh and Liesel's cheeks went bright red.
"Sister-"
"Oh don't bother, Liesel!" she demanded. Her face went rock solid. "Now I suggest you step out of the class for now or stand here and receive a beating while everyone's watching. And your lying, too? Some nerve you've got."
Liesel's jaw dropped. Stand outside in this weather? She slowly turned her back and walked out of the class. She could hear others bickering and whispering as she crossed the hallway and backed out of the classroom. She headed out the door and out to the field where most of the tardy students sat waiting to be allowed back inside. There were only a couple students here. They were playing with their fingers with nervous looks on their faces wondering if they would get detention or not this time around. Liesel had never been late, so she did not know how the procedure went.
Then across the big field, a figure begin to run towards the school at full speed. His dark curly hair was flying in the air and his backpack was jumping up and down.
Theo.
Liesel stood up and walked towards the running Theo. As soon as he met with the school ground, he stopped and placed his hands on his knees and was panting. He looked to his side and saw Liesel walking towards him. First, his face turned stiff then it broke into Liesel's favorite smile.
"So I guess there was no point in running, huh?"
Liesel wiped the hair from her eyes. "No there wasn't. Join the tardy club."
Theo straightened up. Though it was a chilly morning his shirt was soaked with sweat.
Liesel frowned. "Is all that sweat from running across the field?"
Theo's pupils widened. "What? No, I ran all the way from home."
"Oh," said Liesel who was surprised. "So you stayed at home last night?"
Theo blinked. "Yes," he said his voice shaking a little and he looked a little uncomfortable. "My mom made me."
But before Liesel could ask anymore, he turned away. "I better head into my classroom and see how much trouble I'm in," he said. He looked at her, his green eyes soft but vulnerable and gave her a soft smile.
"I'll see you later, Theo," she said as she watched him walk graciously yet confidently into the building.
A/N: Sorry it was so short! But since I'm on summer vacay I have loads of time to update! Maybe in a couple days? Please review! And again, I am so very sorry for the long wait!
