Chapter Two | La Push, Washington
. . .
Oh! Sue blinked a few times as she stood still. She hadn't expected that. Out of all of the things she had assumed and tried to figure out. This was not it at all. Her dark eyes scanned the female before her. She has a cold exterior, this will be a quiet ride home. Sue's eyes widened at another thought. Oh dear! Sam's got his work cut out for him.
Doctor Annabella heaved a small sigh. Well . . . she could have said a lot worse. "Her middle name is Nicole - we usually go by that." She gave Sue a tight smile. 'Sorry,' she mouthed. "As you know, today was Nicole's last session with me." Doctor Annabella glanced at Nicole slightly. "I will be giving you a card." She lowered her voice softly. "It is crucial that she continue to see a therapist."
"Excuse me," Loveless snapped drawing both sets of eyes to herself. "You have no say over anything in my life now." Loveless took a quiet steadying breath before focusing on Sue.
Sue nodded. "I already have your stuff in the car if your ready." She changed the topic, it seemed safer than to irritate the brunette further than the Doctor had already done. From what Sue could tell, Doctor Annabella seemed to rile her further instead of help the poor girl.
"I would thank you," She started off. All smiles and sweetness. Loveless cocked her head to the side. "But you have done nothing but further irritate me and cause more issues in my life." Loveless flashed a tight and edged smile at Doctor Annabella. "Thanks for the heads up doc," she bit out harshly.
Doctor Annabella did her best to hid the frown and unhappiness that coursed through her. "Goodbye Nicole - I hope you find happiness. And remember you have my card. I gave Sue one too - so call me if you ever need me." She placed a well practice smile on her lips. "I gave one to give to your brother in case he needs to contact me - I will be there for you." Doctor Annabella moved forwards and squeezed Loveless's shoulder. "Just a phone call away."
"Do not touch," She hissed. Loveless heaved a frustrated sigh. "Why is that so hard for you to understand?" She shook her head and moved away from Doctor Annabella. Loveless stared at the woman - head on. "I don't need you." Her nose scrunched. "And we both know my happiness will be found in 8 months." A smirked flirted with the edges of Loveless's lips. "fuck the Good Doctor."
Dr. Annabella frowned, "Profanity is not necessary".
"I don't answer to you." Loveless snapped before turning towards Sue. Her glacial blue eyes flickered with a dare in those icy blue depths. "Let's go."
.
"Well," Sue smiled softly as she walked towards the diamond white colored SLT Acadia. It was an older model - but it did exactly what she needed it too, carry two teenage wolves . . . sometimes more if necessary. "This one sweetheart." Sue smiled as she pressed the key-fob to unlock the doors. "I noticed you didn't have a lot of boxes when I loaded them from the Child Care Services." Her voice was gentle as she glanced at the girl beside her. "I can take you shopping."
Loveless stayed quiet as she moved to the passenger side of the GMC Acadia. She wasn't one for small talk - the other would learn that soon enough. She eased herself onto the leather seat before closing the door. Loveless placed the seat-belt in place before laying her purse on her lap. I want James and Vic. Loveless heaved a sigh before facing the window. This was going to be a long drive.
"That is . . . if you want me too?" Sue tried once more. A small sigh escaped her lips. Well, we do have a car ride to try and get her to warm up to me. Sue's nose scrunched softly as she started the car and put it in reverse. She eased out of the parking lot and onto the main road. Who would have thought, Sam's father and half-sister a measly five hours away . . . Sue cleared her throat, "So what happens in five months?" She questioned, hoping the other would answer.
Loveless turned to stare at the woman. Her eyes were bored and cold shock blue. "I will be turning eighteen." She pushed the seat back into a semi-reclining position. "I'll get my inheritance and leave." And no one will have a say in what I do. She let out a soft yawn as she turned back towards the window.
"Inheritance?" Sue questioned as she glanced at the girl. Doctor Annabella hadn't mentioned anything of the sort.
She let her eyes fall shut. "My grandfather on my mother's side." Her brows furrowed slightly. She asks as many questions as the doctor did. Though what plagued her mind was the fact that she answered them. There was a pull. A tugging sensation that seemed to tell her she was safe with the older woman.
She nodded. "So would you like to tell me about yourself or hear about your brother?" Sue smiled brightly and glanced at the girl once more. Her fingers tapped lightly on the steering wheel. She wasn't sure how the girl felt about her brother. Or if she had even known about him. Poor girl.
"No, I'm done talking." Loveless frowned. "He's only my half brother. Nothing special." She snapped, voice as sharpe as a fresh made sword. She pulled her head phones out of her purse and stuck them in her ears. She let her eyes fall shut once more.
It was a trick she had learned long ago. They always though the headphones were attached to something if they were resting in your ears. And it was easier to let them think she had an iPod or mp3 player. She took a deep breath and let herself float as Sue busied herself with turning the radio on softly and driving back to their destination.
It wasn't that she didn't want to know about Samuel Uley. She did. She wanted to know the man that threw her away like Susan had. The man who had laughed in her ear as she told him she was his sister. The man who had called her a liar and hung up on her. The man who had left her with their Father - Joshua. Loveless wanted to meet him. She wanted him to feel her pain.
Loveless bit her lower lip as she held the phone to her ear. She shook with restless energy. She swallowed hard. There was a deep part of her that still couldn't believe she was doing this. Loveless squeezed the phone between her fingers.
"Hello?"
A thrill shot through her, short circuiting her entire system. Loveless blinked as her throat closed up.
"Hello? Uley residence?"
She fumbled for a moment before pushing out a greeting in reply. Loveless licked her lips. "Is Sam there?" A cold sweat broke out across her skin as she said his name out loud. Terrified. That was the only way to explain her feelings. She glanced up and forced a smile as she looked at her two friends - James and Vicktor. She nodded as they sent her encouragement.
"Hello, Sam."
The breath was stolen from her very lungs. "He- hello." She stuttered over the greeting. "Sam, my name is . . . Nicole." She swallowed the lump that formed in her throat. Loveless's eyes burned with unshed tears as they pushed forward. "Nicole Uley." She took in a shaky breath. "I'm your sister."
"I don't have a sister." Sam growled over the phone. "Don't call back - that's not a funny prank."
"NO!" Nicole's eyes widened as she heard the rough hit of the phone before the line went dead. She looked at James and Vicktor as her eyes watered, the tears spilled over. 'He told me I was liar."
She shifted in her seat and massaged her chest as a burning sensation tingled behind her sternum. She breathed in deeply and exhaled slowly. Loveless rolled her shoulders and stretched as much as possible. Loveless forced her mind to go elsewhere. She forced the memories to fade into the back once more. She didn't want to think about that. About him.
.
Loveless jerked at the feeling of someone touching her arm. Her brows furrowed as she thought of the woman sitting next to her. Loveless didn't like to be touched. She allowed James and Vicktor to hug her. But those were the only two. Everyone stayed passed arms reach.
"Sorry sweetheart," Sue smiled sweetly. "I didn't mean to scare you." She glanced at the girl beside her once more. "You have been asleep for most of the ride." Her voice was soft as she spoke. "Almost four and a half hours."
Slowly her eyelids moved back to reveal icy - glacier like - blue eyes. But the lightly tanned russet skin and - long; lower back length - chocolate hair with natural honeyed highlights - she received from both Susan and Joshua. Loveless groaned slightly and blinked repeatedly - disoriented from sleeping in a car. "Where are we?"
"Forks, Washington - about 2o minutes from La Push. I was hungry." She smiled softly and motioned towards the diner in front of the parked car. "I hope you don't mind." Without waiting for a reply - Sue stood from the car and walked towards the diner.
Loveless growled softly and stood from the car. "And you couldn't have eaten at home, old woman?" She muttered under her breath. Sue Clearwater is on my hit list. She huffed out a breath and followed the smiling woman. Loveless wasn't one for big smiles either.
"This is a nice little dinner." Sue spoke softly as she walked beside the other - small talk. "I usually come here when I stop if Forks for something I can't get in the hardware store in La Push." She hummed softly as she opened the door. "Now, their food will never be as good as Sue's Diner." Her eyes twinkled as glanced over at Loveless once more.
Loveless's nose twitched as she listened to Sue talk. She owns a diner. She tucked the information away. Her turbulent eyes scanned the room. It was small and mostly empty.
"I figured it would be okay to stop here." Sue smiled as she took a seat across from the younger woman. "It's usually very quiet here. Not a lot of traffic and there won't be any who really asks questions." She glanced down at the menu on the table before looking back up at Loveless. "I didn't think you would want a lot of questioning stares this early on."
Loveless looked down at the menu on her side of the table. Okay, Sue wasn't on the hit list anymore. She seemed sweet, and intuitive - more so that Doctor Annabella ever was. "Okay." She whispered softly.
"So," Sue grinned widely. It was as close as the girl would ever get to giving out a thank you and Sue was okay with that. She seemed to be doing better than the paid therapist. She chuckled softly at the revelation. "Do you know what you want to eat?" Her voice was soft. "It's on me, so choose anything you like. The burgers are pretty good here." Sue's eyes twinkled. "Not as good as mine or Emily's though. You will love our cooking."
Loveless pointed to the side salad on the menu - earning a funny look from Sue. "Not hungry." She murmured as way of an explanation. It was all she would say on the matter. She heaved a soft sigh and sipped at the sprite that had been placed in front of her when the waitress had come to take their food order.
"Sue? Is that you?"
Sue smiled brightly standing she moved towards the police clad male. "It's good to see you, Charlie." She pulled the other man into a quick hug before walking with him back towards her seat. "How have you been.
Charlie's eyes shifted over to Loveless before giving Sue a curious look. "I've been good." He grinned easily as he pulled a chair across and sat down. "I haven't seen you in a while. Almost thought it was an illusion." Charlie glanced at the younger woman sitting across from Sue. "And you are?"
"Nicole."
Sue smiled at the younger woman. "She is Samuel Uley's half sister." She answered the unasked question with a wide smile on her lips.
"Well," Charlie smiled and tipped his hat. "It is very nice to meet you Miss Uley."
Sue's eyes widened as she jerked slightly. "Wickers, Charlie." Her dark warm eyes focused on the male still standing. "She has her grandmother's name, on her mother's side."
Nicole watched with narrowed eyes as she looked at Sue. Her reactions and movements. She seemed like a nice woman. There was even a chance Nicole would have liked her if they were under different circumstances.
"Very sorry for the mistake." Charlie bowed slightly as a flush broke out across his cheeks. A smile broke out on his lips as a young brunette tugged at his sleeve. "This is my daughter, Bella Swan." He turned towards Bella, "this is Nicole."
Bella smiled brightly, "Hi Nicole!"
Loveless grimaced, she fucking smiles like the Good Doctor Annabella. Hell even their names are close. Her eyes raked over the girl before her. "Do you have a Dr. Annabella Swanson in your family?"
Bella's eyes lit up, "You know Aunt Bella? That's who I was named after." She smiled brightly and clapped her hands as she jumped in place.
Loveless nodded. I don't like her. Her eyes narrowed darkly. "Hmm."
Bella ignored the bored look that crossed Loveless's face and elbowed the boy next to her.
"I'm Edward Cullen."
I don't give a shit.
Edward frowned - his brows furrowing. His dark light golden eyes stared at the girl in the chair in front of them. Edward leaned over and whispered in Bella's ear. "I can't read her thoughts."
Bella's eyes widened. She's just like me.
"Well, Sweetie." Sue smiled sweetly. "It was great to see you again." Her dark eyes glanced at Loveless once more. "It looks like your father is calling you darling." She nodded towards Charlie.
