Chapter Six | I Am New
.
Well, what do you want me to say? I do not want to be here in this position. And I certainly do not want to be anywhere Samuel. But it does not seem like I have a choice in the matter. Doctor Annabella made sure of that.
I'm not a happy person, then again no one seems to care. And I don't like to share, especially my feelings. Not with them. You're different. You won't judge me no matter what I say or do.
And Paul.
I don't know what to say there. I feel this sensation. It sits low in the base of my spine. A tingle, warm and weighted. I've never felt that before. Like I could be perfectly content in his arms and by his side. But, I'm not dumb enough it go further. To dig into the sensations that surrounds my heart when Paul is near.
Why would I?
I am supposed to be leaving in Five months, three weeks, and six days. I am not cruel enough to try and figure it out and get attached. Being attached and leaving would be far worse than anything.
. . .
"Wait!" Emily cried out as she moved down the porch stairs. A small piece of paper flapped in the wind as she tried to cover the ground that Paul and Loveless had covered. Emily had raced to write down the information on the paper before high-tailing after them.
Loveless turned and saw Emily frantically clambering down the steps. She came to a stop and waited. It was obvious the other would chase her to the car.
"Here," Emily smiled and held out a folded up piece of paper. "It has mine, Sam, and Paul's cell numbers." She shrugged and quickly glanced at Paul. "In case anything happens and you need to reach one of us." Emily smiled brightly. "Okay?"
Loveless's eyes narrowed. "Thank you." She took the paper. Loveless stepped into Paul's 1968 Charger. He actually has some taste. A shiver ran through her body - is it always this cold. She rubbed her arms softly. Her ice blue eyes flickered over to the knobs for heating and cooling. She relaxed slightly as she saw Paul's hands turn up the heating. Loveless heaved a sigh as the heat worked through her frigid body.
The paper in her hands rustled slightly. She moved and opened her messenger bag and slipped the paper into her wallet. Loveless doubted she would ever use it. But it was smarter to keep it with her. She knew no one. Not that Loveless wanted to get to know any of them.
She stayed quiet during the twenty minute car ride to Forks High parking lot.
Paul frowned, "where's you jacket?" His wolf growled at the mere thought of her going the whole day in the cold.
Loveless shrugged. "The one I wore here was dirty - I don't have any extras." She would make it. Loveless had gone many times without a jacket in the cold - then again, James or Vicktor had been there for her.
Paul turned slightly and and leaned closer - his right hand going up, over, and down the seat behind her seat. Seconds later he retracted his arm. "Here, it'll keep you warm. You'll freeze to death if not." Paul frowned at the thought of her freezing. His wolf didn't like that. He didn't like that.
Loveless stared at the jacket. Bulky, black leather jacket.
Paul pouted slightly, "please?"
Loveless rolled her eyes and snatched the jacket - putting it on. Don't look at me at me that way - its freaking cold! "Thanks," she muttered as she grabbed her messenger bag. It was warm. It surrounded her completely, making her feel safe and protected.
"Do you want me to go in with you?"
Loveless arched an eyebrow as she opened the door, "why the hell would I need you?" Her cruel exterior back in place. She slammed the door shut - gaining others attention. Loveless held her head high and walked towards the school entrance.
"Hi! My name is Eric!" He smiled a bright closed y smile and held up his camera. "Nice to meet you New Girl."
Loveless's eyes narrowed, "You take that picture and I'll shove that camera up your ass." Her voice was clipped as she stared at the male in front of her. She didn't want to be shown anywhere. She didn't want her picture taken. Loveless wanted to be left alone.
Eric immediately lowered the camera - but continued to smile. "I Like you."
"Well," She quirked an eyebrow, "I don't care."
Eric giggled and slung an arm around her shoulders - ignoring the deadly glare. "You wanna sit with us at lunch?"
"Maybe." Loveless scanned the area. "Take me to the main office and I'll think about it."
He smiled brightly. "Bargainer? I like it."
The two were stared at as they continued to walk. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Edward Cullen. "Are you friends with Edward Cullen?"
Eric frowned. His nose scrunched in distaste as the right side of his lip curled upward, "fuck no." His eyes widened. "I'm sorry I never curse. Forgive me - that was rude."
Loveless gave the taller a weird look. "I curse. . ." She shrugged. Loveless didn't curse just to curse, but there were times where the cursing just seemed more appropriate. "And you don't like him? Not even a little?"
Eric made a puking face as they continued to walk. "No."
"Yes, I will sit with you at lunch." The right side of Loveless's mouth turned upward in the hint of a smile. "I think we will get along fine."
Eric giggled once more. "Oh! Meet my girl Angela." He wrapped his free arm around another girls shoulders. "Oh and this is Claire."
Loveless nodded, "Nicole."
Claire smiled. "Who's jacket?" Her eyes were calculating as she looked over the jacket once more.
Loveless narrowed her eyes, "why?"
"Oh," A blush covered her cheeks as she bobbed her head shyly. Claire smiled. "It looks like Paul's."
Loveless frowned. "How do you know?" Stalker much?
Claire smiled and blushed. "Oh," she bit her lower lip. "Um . . . you see," Claire trailed off as the blush crawled across her cheeks and down her neck.
Eric chuckled. "She has a crush on the cutie named Quil. God! You should have seen her when she found out a girl from La Push - who knew Sam's Gang - was coming to this school. She nearly screamed so loud my ears bled." Eric shook his head as Claire's blush deepened. Eric shrieked as Angela turned the camera towards Loveless. "NO! No pictures, no front page, no nothing. The story is dead Angela."
Angela frowned and lowered the camera. "Why?"
"I don't like photos." Loveless' eyes narrowed as she glared at the camera. She never had. Photos meant nothing, they were fake and ridiculous. A perfect smile to hide the lie of hatred.
Angela nodded, "okay cool". She held the camera in her hands but lowered the lens. A soft smile covered her lips as she glanced at Loveless once more. "Nice to meet you." Her soft butterscotch and chocolate brown orbs twinkled happily.
Loveless glanced at the three beside her. "So what clique are you?"
"Click?" Claire scrunched her nose in distaste while Angela frowned and Eric put on a thoughtful look. "The nobodies?" Claire giggled. "The boring ones?"
Angela shook her head, "The Nerdy Nobodies."
"Ha," Loveless cracked a smirk as she looked at them. "Sounds good." They didn't want to stand out and that was actually perfect. Loveless didn't want to be anywhere near a group that wanted the lime light. She wanted to fade into the darkness and fly through this stupid hell hole of a school. Thankfully she was a senior and there was only eight months until she was 18.
Angela stopped, hands still touching the camera. "You actually want to be friends with the welcome wagon?" Her brows furrowed. No one ever wanted to be friends with the welcome wagon. Ever.
Claire's eyes flashed with disbelief. "Seriously?"
"Yes," Loveless replied. "I don't like sticking out." A scowl covered her lips as she stared at the brunette across the hallway. "And I don't like Isabella Swan." She sneered the name. Her voice was soft but serious as she spoke.
The others nodded in understanding. They could agree. The sensation that was Isabella "Just Bella" Swan was not as fascinating as some seemed to think she was.
"Well, this is the office." Eric grinned. "We will wait outside for you."
. .
Loveless let out a frustrated sigh as she exited the Office. The Office Lady was close to being on her hit list. But it was okay, the Good Doctor was ahead of them all. Loveless could tell by the look on her face that she knew. Knew what Loveless didn't want shared. And the way she had stuttered over her first name before closing her lips tightly.
Her teeth grated. She didn't want their pity or their sympathy. It was fake and useless. Sure, Loveless hadn't talked to the Doctor - so there wasn't much in the file to begin with. But the initial Police Report and Psychiatric Assessment said everything without her talking.
She hated that. Loveless didn't want to look any different. And no, she didn't feel any sympathy as she snapped at the Office Lady - "Nicole will be the safest route for you and everyone here." Her eyes had narrowed as she snatched the papers she needed for class. Loveless had waited patiently as she could for the Office Lady to print a new stack of papers without her first name on the sheets.
"Give me," Eric grinned as he snatched the class schedule from her slender fingers. He wasn't one to really wait for any kind of actual reply before he did something. Eric was more in the sense of warning a person before he did something he others might regret. "Let's see," He lips pursed as he lowered the paper so the other two women with him could look.
Angela grinned widely as she glanced up at Nicole. "You speak Korean?"
"Neh." She nodded along with the foreign word.
Angela squealed softly and bounced in place, "Sweet, both of the these losers too Spanish."
"Hey!" Eric's lips pursed. "Two classes with me (Biology - P1, Algebra - P3, and World History - P4), 3 classes with Angela (Eng. Lit. - P2, World History - P4, Korean I - P5) - Whoa!" Eric paused eyes widening.
Loveless frowned. "I figured we'd all have the same classes."
Eric shrugged. "We pretty much do - just different times." Eric rolled his eyes, "You care (Cooking 101 - P6) with Claire. And we all have P.E - P7. together."
"Okay." Loveless nodded and snatched the paper back. A smirk covered her lips at the puppy-eyed look Eric gave her. He was going to be a character. "Teachers?"
Eric scrunched his nose in distaste. "Bio and Algebra - They are both with Mrs. Peterson. She's old and set in her ways." He shrugged slightly, "stay quiet and she won't say or make you do any thing."
Angela smiled. "Eng. Lit. and W.H. are with Mr. Thompson. He's quirky." She grinned easily and fiddled with her camera a little more. "Mrs. Oh - she's awesome!"
Claire rolled her eyes. "Miss Taylor is a very good cook, she's nice and friendly." She smiled. 'The coach is special. Funny though."
Loveless nodded. "Okay," She let Eric lead her through the halls after she pointed at her locker number.
"Not a bad one," Eric murmured as he came to a stop. "You are sort of centered in the middle of everything." He paused as he used the locker combo to open the locker before shoving a pencil in place to keep it from locking. He smiled and winked. "There, no worries."
Angela grinned. "And my locker is just two over."
.
Eric smiled, "Okay, this is where I leave you. Mrs. Peterson will seat you." He gave a short spastic wave before moving to his assigned seat.
Loveless nodded and stood at the front of the classroom waiting for the teacher. Her eyes narrowed as she glared at the people who stared at her. Loveless didn't like being stared at. And she was going to make sure they knew it.
Mrs. Peterson smiled. "And You must be the New Girl?" Her eyes softened as she stared at the younger woman.
"Yes," The one word was as sharp as a double edged sword. Her eyes narrowed. "Nicole."She was giving the teacher a chance to understand that a scene would be made if Nicole was not used.
Mrs. Peterson nodded sharply. "I'll make sure that the other faculty members are under the same impression I am." A smile attached itself to her lips as set her things down on her desk. "Class?"
Kay?
