Chapter Thirty -Four | Watching
It's been a while. A very long while if I am being honest. And who else do I have to be honest with? James and Vic don't count. They already know what is wrong with me. And yes, I know they don't judge - but they are biased towards me.
I'm leaving soon. Four months and three and a half weeks. Yes, I have been counting. And I'm looking forward to it. Traveling with Vic and James. The two people I love with me.
I'm not lying.
I don't love Paul. It's not the same. And I'm not stupid. I don't want the life Paul is offering. It's why I'm doing it. Helping him fix the house. It's so he can bring his sister around. He won't miss me. He'll have Erica and is friends. Friends that seem like a family.
It will be fine. I won't miss them. There is nothing to miss. Well, I might miss Emily's cooking. But Vic can cook really well. So, it's more of a trade.
I'm not telling you words to fill up the space. I'm not lying to myself. I'm being honest. I've seen what Paul could give. I've glimpsed the quiet and peaceful life. But everlasting love isn't real. And even if it was, I know enough to understand it's not for me.
. . .
Loveless let out a low groan as she stretched after getting out of the car. "So what are we doing?"
"Don't you need to go and help Paul?" Vic teased, eyes smiling and shining with mischief. He chuckled at the look he received. "I'm joking." He sent her a wink as James and he followed her up the steps and to the door. "You can't go over there, not today."
Her lips pursed. "Why not?" A grimace crossed her lips, because if she was being honest that sounded anything but airy with a lack of curiosity. Dammit. Loveless didn't want to sound intrigued, or whiny. She didn't want to see Paul. She didn't. No really, she did. Dammit.
"Because." Vic smirked. "Paul doesn't want you over there breathing in any of the saw dust." He chuckled at the quelling look she sent him. Clearly, that wasn't a good enough reason for her to not see Paul. "So what would you like to do to pass the time?"
Loveless huffed out a sigh. "Let's grab food and then veg at your house." She smiled as she squirmed in her seat, the back wasn't always a comfortable place to stay. "I want to start planning our trip." Loveless couldn't hide the flash of pain that crossed her features as she uttered those words.
"Okay? Sue's diner?" Vic questioned softly. They would do whatever she wanted. The Princess always made the rules.
"I don't know." Her nose scrunched as she walked through the living room and towards the stairs. "I am craving Italian like mad." She huffed out a breath as she pushed open her door. "I've been craving it for a while now."
"There was a good little place in Port." James smiled as he offered up a choice. "We could go?"
He tilted his head to the side as he studied her. Vic frowned. 'She looks tired.' He bit at his lower lip. 'Maybe we should just stop at the little grocery shop and I can make something.'
James hummed in reply. 'I think her mother is reaching out for her from the aeir.' A soft smile covered his lips. If her mother was talking to her, it mean the phase was close. She would be coming into her full potential soon.
Queen over all the Pheorians. And with her on the thrown, it would mean any being with Pheorian blood would awaken. Their blood would sing and call to their kin. Their kind will be rising once more to walk among the others. Put the vampires back in their places too.
She would be able to call to all of those in the aeir. All of those who had passed. She would be able to tap into their power. Their queen would return to them. Fill their hearts with love once more. Ease the fire that burned so bright for her. She would be able to quell the burn, like cooling water sliding over a sun burn.
"What do you want to do?"
Vic nose scrunched. "How about I make my four cheese spaghetti with eggs?" Though, if she wanted to ride to Port - they would drive her there with no hesitation.
"Oh!" She hummed in approval. "That sounds even better!" She smiled sweetly. "Can we get the Texas Toast?" She licked her lips. "I'm going to text Emily." Loveless glanced at the two males in the front. "I can spend the night . . . right?"
James snorted. "I think this is the first time she has ever asked to spend the night." He chuckled as Loveless kicked at his seat. "You can do and have anything you want Princess." 'Your warriors will always comply.'
'Yes, we will.' Vic smiled. "Then it's settled. Stop at the grocery store right before La Push - it looks a tad bit bigger." He leaned back in his seat. "At least it is Friday, and we don't have any homework." He grinned easily as he glanced at Loveless.
. .
Loveless heaved a soft sigh as she stepped out of the foggy bathroom. "That was amazing." She tugged at James' shirt, it was much to long, falling down to her knees.
"Well, aren't you adorable." He chuckled at the picture before him. "Roll the boxers up some, see if that helps." Vic chuckled and walked towards the struggling brunette. "Hold you shirt up Princess." He tugged on the boxers and rolled the band down while pulling them up. "Much better." Vic grabbed the t-shirt and tugged on it while tying it into a knot on the side.
Loveless smiled. "Thanks." She followed Vic into the kitchen. "Is dinner ready?"
"Yes," James smiled as he handed a plate of food to the other. "Eat this and then apple pie." He winked at the girl before him. "You should wear my clothes more often."
She snorted and rolled her eyes as she grabbed her plate of food. "Yeah," Loveless shook her head as she flopped down on the couch. "What movie are we watching?"
"Well . . . The Walking Dead is back on . . ." Vic smirked as he waited.
Loveless beamed brightly. "Heck yeah!"
. . .
"Have you found anything out?" Jane managed with a hiss. It was the most to hospitable she could get. She wasn't one for pleasantries - and neither was the one she was talking too.
Aeries blinked. "Damon is doing well, good of you to ask."
"About the girl." Jane took a deep breath. She wasn't one to show her flinches, and she wasn't starting now either. "Aro is the one inquiring." Her blood red eyes narrowed as they zoned in on the blonde vampire. "It is not smart to keep him waiting."
Aeries smirked as her head cocked to the side. "Did he not tell you?" A tinkling laugh fell from her parted ruby colored lips. "I have already talked to Aro." She pushed a couple strands of flaxen colored hair behind her ear. "I thought you two were closer."
"Since then," Jane snapped. She was loosing her patience. How could she have missed that? Of course Aeries would call direct for Aro. Why hadn't she been told?
She shook her head. "I am curious about the wolves though." Her ruby lips pulled back to reveal glistening white teeth. "It's been a while since I've had a wolf at my command."
Wolf to command? Jane kept her facade in place. She had never heard of such a thing. That was an abomination to their very culture.
"Maybe I can get Aro to gift one of them to me." Her eyes cut to Jane before she looked back over the horizon - the sun's last rays fighting for purchase. "Like he did last time." Aeries smiled sweetly, all delicate and feminine.
Jane kept the hiss to herself, there was no need to let the other on to how much she was irked. "You should ask." Jane smiled politely. "Please keep Aro informed." She kept her formalities in place as she gave a half bow before flitting away.
"Must you tease her so?"
Aeries grinned as she looked at her oldest sister. "Yes Annette."
"Very well," Annette shook her head. She was not one to go against her sister. Never had been, never would be. She knew the consequences. She turned away from her youngest sister. Anya had not been the same. Annette blinked a few times, fighting the venom in her eyes.
Aeries tiled to her head. "You are thinking of her again."
"It doesn't matter." Annette whispered.
Her eyes hardened. "She wasn't like us." Her nose scrunched unhappily. "She didn't know her place and not once did she seem keen on knowing it." Aeries worked her jaw as she glared at the twinkling stars. "Aro would have killed her."
"Oh," Annette hissed. "How kind of you to oblige."
Flaxen hair cut through the air as Aeries twisted around to stare at her sister. "You know very well, what I did was nice." Her crimson eyes flashed under the moon light. "Aro would have made her suffer."
"Yes, he would have." Annette whispered. Her eyes narrowed as she returned the glare. "But at the end of the day - you are the one who killed her. Our own flesh and blood." She looked away as the venom surfaced once more. "Our sister."
Aeries rolled her eyes and flicked her wrist. "Go be with Alexia, she will share your sympathy." She glanced at Annette once more. "Make sure you don't fail." Her head tilted to the side. "I'll do what needs to be done. Again, if I have too."
. . .
Loveless heaved another sigh as she tossed once more. It was utterly ridiculous! Why was she not asleep? Loveless bit at her lower lip as she glanced at the clock once more. 3:25 AM. Completely ridiculous. She huffed out a breath and flung the covers back from her body.
She moved quietly through the two story house after she slipped on a pair of slippers and Viktor's jacket. She pulled the backdoor open and stepped out into the night air. It was a cozy little cookie cutter dead-end street, with the woods surrounding it. And if she was correct, about eight minutes from La Push. Not that she counted.
Loveless let the soft breeze wrap around her.
'Be careful Firefly.'
Her brows furrowed. The voice was back. Who are you? She bit at her lower lip.
'I am the one who loves you the most, Firefly.'
The soft feminine voice wrapped around her mind and warmed her from the inside out. Why do I need to be so careful?
'There are those out in the world who would like to see you dead. Stay safe Firefly. Stay close to Vic and James. Paul too.'
Loveless jolted to a stop. Paul? She blinked a few times and shook her head. Ridiculous. She was talking to the voice in her mind. Loveless heaved a soft sigh and walked further into the dark. If she remembered correctly - there as a park two houses up.
A soft smile covered her lips as the small park came into view. Loveless reached for the chains of the swing-set as she steadied it. She took a seat and let her legs move back and forth as she floated in the air. She loved swinging.
Loveless let go of her thoughts as she swung back and forth. She froze at the crunching sound that had been created before her. The forest. Loveless swallowed hard and kept her eyes closed. A flinch rolled through her being as the sounds of snapping branches grew louder.
With a slow, shuddering breath Loveless opened her eyes. Her jaw dropped as she blinked, frozen in fear. A wolf? Loveless strangled on the air around her. There was a wold - roughly the size of a Clydesdale coming towards her. She blinked, Loveless had to be seeing things. There was no way this was possible.
She swallowed hard as their eyes connected. She knew those brown eyes. She knew! But why couldn't she place them? Loveless had seen those dark swirling chocolate endless depths before. But where?
Loveless jumped as the giant wolf lowered his head and sniffed at the grass. Dark eyes clashing with her's as he watched her. His head tilted to the side as he studied.
He was watching her movements?
Okay? I sorta feel like it's more of an aimless Chapter. But this is a set up chapter.
