Later that same afternoon . . .
Mario was adjusting a panel of material on a new design that Sasha was modelling for him when, after a brief knock, Cat walked into his office. He started to smile, until he saw Sebastion and his Father following her.
Sebastion strolled over to him, never taking his eyes off Sasha as he moved.
"I can most definitely see the appeal in your little sewing career, Marius, the view is utterly breathtaking."
Marius rolled his eyes. "Sasha, may I introduce my father, Antonio Veron, my sister Caterina, and the rather hopelessly melodramatic creature before you is none other than my brother, Sebastion, better known to all as A.J.
Sebastion cast Marius and killing look at the mention of the offensive nickname he'd given him. "My brother, always with his little jokes, still, it's nice to see him at least trying to be funny, even if it is at someone else's expense."
Sasha felt as if she could cut the tension in the air with a knife, she thought a hasty retreat might be in order, which was a pity, because Marius's twin brother, although not identical, was every bit as hot as Marius himself.
She smiled politely. "It's nice to meet you all, I'd like to say I've heard a lot about you, but unfortunately Marius has been pretty hush, hush about his family."
She stepped down from the small stool she was on and turned to Marius. "I'll just let you have some privacy for a visit with your family, I think you have the panel right now anyway."
She started to the door, pausing to give Sebastion an extra long look, "it was lovely to meet you, I hope I see you again sometime." And then she hurried from the room.
Marius sighed. "So, what brings you here to my humble domain?"
"I've told them Marius! Bastion and father know the truth." Said Cat quickly.
"I know I was going to wait, but when they turned up I just kind of blurted everything out. Father has sent someone to the prison to interview Dr Buckingham, we're just waiting on the results now."
"And the DNA test?" asked Marius.
"Still not back, it could be a couple more days yet, and I just couldn't wait that long to tell them what we suspected."
Marius looked at his father, "you're okay with this then?"
Antonio snorted. "No Marius, I'm not "okay" with this. I come to L.A. to see my children and immediately find out my absent daughter has had a child, one that she had thought had died, and that she had only ever told my equally closed mouthed son her secret. A son who took it upon himself not to tell his father what was going on with his vulnerable child. I'm livid, and I'm only now trying to sort out this mess. A mess I might add, that should, and could, have been reckoned with long ago – had I known!"
Marius' eyes narrowed, "Sorry, but I was not going to betray Cat, she told me in confidence, she trusted me to have her back, and although I might not have your resources, I did what I could to the best of my abilities. That's one of the reasons I accepted this job, to be here and learn more about Hope Logan and her child, and to try to get a DNA sample from them. Fortunately, I managed to get Cat a job as a nanny for them, so although it may have taken longer, our plan did work. And if you expect an apology from me then think again, because it won't be coming. I did what I did, deal with it."
"Stop it, the pair of you, you're always fighting and I hate it. I love all of you, but you're all such jerks at times." cried Cat.
There was a knock at the door and Steffy walked in, her head down as she read some sales reports. "Marius, I wanted to," she lifted her head and stopped mid-sentence as she realised Marius had company.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't realise you had visitors," she said smiling at everyone.
Marius once again did the introductions, but this time Sebastion took Steffi's hand and kissed it murmuring, "Please, call me Bastion, it's a pleasure to meet you Miss Forrester, and may I just say, the television does not do your beauty justice."
Steffy blushed as Marius snapped, "oh for god's sake, you were just coming onto Sasha, and now you're hitting on my boss, get a grip A.J. you're embarrassing both yourself, and me."
Steffy frowned at the unusual outburst, she looked at Marius who was glaring in annoyance at his brother, who at second glance was now glowering right back at him.
"Stop it now, this constant bickering between the pair of you is wearing thin." Said a clearly angry Antonio.
Before anyone could say another word Antonios phone rang and everything stopped. Steffy looked at each of them, it was like they were frozen, each looking at their father with . . . trepidation, especially Marius' sister Cat.
Obviously, she'd walked in on something awkward for the family, so as Antonio excused himself and answered the phone Steffy made quick apology to Marius and told him she'd be back a little later, then she beat a hasty retreat.
As she closed the door behind her Antonio thanked the caller and put the phone back in his pocket. He stood facing away from them for a moment, gathering his thoughts and his emotions at the news, then he turned back to his family.
"Buckingham said he panicked when he realised who Caterina's father was, he confessed he only found out as he was going through her paperwork after she'd already left the clinic. He thought if I found out that he'd sold my grandchild there would be repercussions against his own children, so when his ruse was exposed, he thought it was safer to say the child was Hope Spencers, all to protect his own family, from me."
He shook his head as he looked at his daughter.
Caterina, Beth Spencer is your daughter, and my grandchild."
Cats face crumpled and she started to cry in relief, "I knew it, I just knew it! As soon as I saw her, as soon as I talked to her, it was like something inside of me came alive again."
She turned her tear-stained face to her father. "Please father, help me, tell me, what do I do now?" she sobbed. "When can I get her back home with me, where she belongs."
Antonio thought for a moment as everyone turned to stare at him.
"My associates have obviously realised how important this is to me and have already called the police, and Buckingham will shortly be making a full confession. As soon as we leave here we are going straight to a law firm, where they have already made an emergency appointment with the top specialists in this field of law. We will take it from there Caterina, your DNA test will hopefully speed the courts decision. Don't worry little one, I will leave no stone unturned to push this through as quickly as possible."
Cat went to him and he held her tightly, rubbing her back to soothe her as she cried in his arms.
Marius and Sebastion watched on before Marius turned to his brother.
"I think it's time to call a truce Bastion, Cat needs us, and until we get our niece back, she's going to need us to be allies." He stuck out his hand.
Sebastion looked at him for a moment before grasping his hand with his own. "Something we can agree brother, and heaven help any who try to oppose us, we will be getting her back where she belongs, no matter the price!"
Antonio smiled as he watched his combatant son's bond over Cat and her stolen child. This trip was proving to be a revelation in more ways than one for him. The simple fact of finding out he was a grandfather had both softened and hardened something inside of him.
He now had a grandchild, another to carry the legacy of his name into the future, and no-one was going to stop him from claiming the child for Caterina,
NO-ONE!
