Chapter 3 Always starts with D-Rank's

Asuma POV

Walking into the My Dad's Office or more well know Hokage's office I knocked and heard a "come inside" and opens the door to see Kakashi inside talking to Dad.

"Hey Asuma it seems you had quite the battle" Asuma could see the smirk and eye smile of Kakashi as he grabbed his book from his pouch and opened and started reading as Dad turned his attention to me.

"Is there something you needed Asuma, oh is about your genin team?" As always Dad hit the nose.

"Yea they passed there test so we'd be taking mission's tomorrow Is what I'd like to say but I'm not completely sure if it's a bad idea." I rested my chin on my fingers as both Dad and Kakashi looked at me quite clearly intrigued.

"And what happened to cause that…" Kakashi asked as he gave me a side eye. I was about to answer until a rather loud call of "Hokage-JiJi!" Came from behind the door. In came a short blond hair in a kill me orange jumpsuit with accompanying colors of white on the jumpsuit's collar. "Jiji whose that weird Sensei you assigned me and my tea-" the kid stopped upon seeing Kakashi in the room. Oh the kid had Kakashi as his teacher…poor bastard.

"Kakashi-Sensei!" Naruto yelled as he recounted the scene at the roof of the Academy building.

"Umm oh hey Naruto I didn't think I'd see you this time." Kakashi looked from above his book at Naruto who then after recovering looked me up and down.

"Ehh who are you." He said it bluntly it made me chuckle a bit at how he said it.

"I'm Asuma Sarutobi kid oh and it's nice to meet ya." I sent him two of my fingers in a waving motion as he exploded with joy.

"Hey I'm Uzumaki Naruto and it's nice to meet you to!" He did a pose were he sent a peace sign at me I smirk at the kid and he got a realization hit to his face by the way he looked at me.

"Sarutobi does that mean your Konohamaru's Dad and Hokage-JiJi son." He looked starstruck and I sweatdropped. I looked at my dad and Kakashi who was too engrossed into his book to care. Sighing before taking to answering the kid before he blows.

"Konohamaru is my nephew and I'm surprised you met him." At that Naruto's face turned into 'oh' as he looked on.

"Well Naruto would you mind if I do have my conversation with Asuma about what happened." Dad said it like he would say things to Konohamaru which honestly made me feel like Naruto was my nephew.

"What happened." Well I know that look he won't leave until he hears this.

"Well during the test Shikamaru got really hurt and I had to send him to the hospital and they said he'd be fine tomorrow though I'm willing to hold that day so he for sure recovers." I looked at Dad as he lifted his eyebrow though if you looked around the room everyone in there had a eyebrow raised.

"Well" I look to the side while making circles around my cheek "I may or may not used full strength and slammed him on the ground as hard as I can." I looked further away to the side as Naruto and Dad exploded though Dad was a lot more composed than Naruto was.

"Asuma" Dad raised his hand for Naruto to calm down as I started looking back from the wall to Dad's stern gaze.

"Can you explain why or what made you'd do that. I know you Asuma and you wouldn't just do that for the thrills something must have made you do that."

"Well Dad our test was to impress me and see if they would scramble for the one guaranteed spot or try to take me one and they did the latter option." At that Dad mad a circular motion for me to continue as Naruto himself was intrigued by the story and even Kakashi started to pay mild attention to it though he never got his head out of his book.

"I did send a Shadow clone to fight them…" I stopped trying to find a good way to say it.

"…But…" Dad just wanted me to continue as he did narrow his gaze.

"They destroyed it in about less than 2 minutes." At that both Kakashi and Dad looked with eyes widened though Naruto not as much but still was interested.

"To have genin straight out of the Academy take down your clone is impressive." Dad told me and at that I nodded quickly even Kakashi looked impressed.

"I can make a Shadow Clone and yet they aren't that tuff." We turned to see Naruto cross his arms to his chest.

"Well although they disappear in one hit they have the ability of the original only with split Chakra so any speed, strength and skill transfers and to have genin dispel a clone from a Jonin like Asuma is impressive." I heard Dad say to Naruto as he started to get it himself.

"Asuma go on." Dad asked me to proceed obviously he and Kakashi were paying more attention.

"I thought after that first tactic it would be over for them so thinking to put them off guard I transformed into Ino and tried to congratulate them falsely but Shikamaru found out it wasn't actually Ino after he accidentally captured me and let his connection go and I threw a kunai slicing a bit of his cheek." I told them and they all nodded and I kept going.

"And to tell you the truth it was only Shikamaru and Choji who dispelled my clone as Ino was waiting for me to get captured or to preoccupied with the other two and I was but she did scream her jutsu so I managed to dodge and place some distance between us.

After that they tried a bit harder to get it forcefully but ended in failure until Shikamaru used the clone Jutsu in a way I've never seen before which caught me off guard and not knowing how to deal with that type of thing my instincts went off and when he landed and actual strike on me I did retaliate with my full strength sending him into the floor making a small crater and his body even skipped." At the finish of my story they all looked at me Naruto looked a bit angry that the guy he used to skip school with got that hurt over just a lousy lucky punch. Kakashi and Dad though both there mouths were opened at that how can a green as the grass genin even come close test turned into serious combat situation that Asuma was involved in landed a blow on a elite Jonin one of Konoha's best shinobi in the village.

"Oh my that boy was extremely lucky or has extreme talent and potential with his team." Dad said it and I did really agree with it though a certain blond didn't really see it that way.

"Ahh Shikamaru landed a lucky punch on you I would be able to beat you no problem." Naruto said it more overconfidently than anything as Kakashi looked his way.

"Hey Naruto for the training tomorrow I just wanted to let you know that without my secret I would probably be a weaker shinobi than Asuma." I looked at Kakashi and he did mean it from the way he said and I was definitely going to take that.

"Oh ok I'm so going to demolish you Kakashi-Sensei." Naruto turned as he started to go as he lifted his arms to rest his head backwards.

"You do know that my style of fighting is more keen to have holes than one like yours Kakashi." I did have that to say if one of our styles was almost pure attacking than it would be me and how closely it resembles my trench knives.

"But it's still true that without my Sharingan you could probably beat me." Kakashi kept his look to his book. I just turned back to my Dad as I previously watched Naruto walk off.

"Well Asuma I would wait another as you said for Shikamaru-Kun to fully recover." At that Kakashi nodded as well.

"Oi Kakashi you're having your squads test tomorrow?" Kakashi did look up from his book only for a brief "yep" to come out.

"Heh thought so." Waving my hand I went to exit and headed out probably on my way to Shikaku's oh that's not going to be fun…

"What Did You Do!" A very angry Yoshino screamed in my ear as my recoiled back into myself and j raised my hand to cover it from another potential threat known as Yoshino. Though I have explained the story rather than be accomplished Yoshino was pretty pissed and was now on her way to see her boy and by now Shikaku should still be occupied so it's only her yelling at me even though he doesn't yell at people.

"Shikamaru" POV

Laying down in my hospital bed though it doesn't move around like the ones in my world they still are alright mattresses and overall it was fine currently I just was thinking as j just waited for the result of an X-ray came in which in all honesty didn't think they had but they did have like Tv screens, Refrigerators, stoves and Naruto in the Boruto when they went back in time I saw the guy literally use a electric kettle which so having X-day here was pretty interesting as well. It's been a couple of hours since I got here at 2pm and now that I look at that clock it was approaching 6pm and I was…hungry…only eaten a quick breakfast. "Shikamaru!" I heard a voice call my name from behind the door as the door opened to let my new mom inside the room as she was holding multiple containers of rice and steak…hmm.

"Shikamaru are you okay." She walked up to me and laid her hand on my shoulder has I looked up at her.

"I'll be fine by tomorrow morning mom there's nothing to be worried about….other than Asuma-Sensei's life." I said the last thing with a very exasperated open whose smile and turned the other way as mom started to let tiny giggles get through her mouth.

"He should be worried" I saw he even wipe a tear coming out of her eye she laughed that much. I mean I don't think she ever seen her son act like this really I guess he did just act like everything was troublesome and in some regards they are just that you have to do them.

Next Day…

Getting checked once over before I was cleared to guy I left outside the hospital to see Asuma sitting on a bench just outside the hospital gates. Walking out and walking towards Asuma who lifted his arms in a greeting I just tilt my head on why he was waiting outside. "Oi Shikamaru are you feeling good enough to take missions today or would you rather take them tomorrow." He asked be a basic question and though I didn't see Choji or Ino with him I still picked the missions I mean I need my own money and though they don't pay much there alright for starting out until we get a C-rank in a couple of months. I nodded at him as he started to lead the way to the meeting place it was a bit quiet in between us though.

"Hey Asuma-Sensei." He turned his head toward me but didn't stop walking. "Could I read that book you were reading outside before I saw you quickly put it away?" I gave him a smirk as he got a worried expression on his face not really knowing the outcome of me picking up that book of his…but he naturally went into his ouch and threw me the book which titled "Icha Icha Paradise" which if I know right the first in the series it's apparently about the main character and heroine, both new to love. Begin Dating. And there eyes gradually open to grown up love. I knew it wasn't purely about smut but there was something other than that so it said on the back cover of the book.

"Hey Asuma-Sensei do you mind if I keep this." Though he definitely would say he would mind and he looked like he was going to say yes he recognized that he did put me in the hospital for that test so let me off. Huh fun. I crack the first page open and start to read as I walk in auto pilot behind Asuma-Sensei who did start smoking.

This book was really cool actually I mean I still had trouble walking, reading and trying to avoid from hitting people as I still ran into stuff I mean Kakashi makes it look so easy how does he do it. But I recognized the route we were going or more like Shikamaru's memories recognized were we're going and it was the Yamanaka clan compound which wasn't that far away from the Nara or Akimichi compounds no surprise there but we did start on route to Ino's home as I put my book away after reading the first 10 pages of the easily over 300 page book it was pretty compact though the pages were smaller than other books as I'm pretty sure Jiraiya made them to fit in Ninja pouches specifically that too it was a snug fit. It was kinda really advanced writing skill actually writing about this made me feel as though I was back home reading a novel by a very competent writer.

Making it to the Ino's household Asuma-Sensei knocked on the door to see Ino dressed normally opening the door as she saw Asuma-Sensei and me behind her as she jumped to hug me.

"Shikamaru you're okay!" She gave me a hug and I returned it.

"Hey I'm fine you know I just took a strong blow I'll be okay we should get Choji so we start missions today." She gave me a look saying "you should be in bed…go to bed…" I just turn my head to the side and back again in declining her as she just sighs and follows Asuma-Sensei to the Akimichi Compound step by step next to me in silence. We walked all the way to Choji's home in his compound and he again opened the door to join us to go to the mission hall which Iruka is there for some reason but ehh whatever.

We walked inside to see the Hokage and Iruka-Sensei with paper's in there hands and stamps and as they see us the Hokage specifically zooms his eyes at me. I just tilt my head at the reaction and we get closer to the Hokage's desk. "Ah Shikamaru-Kun are you doing alright after yesterday and getting a rather hard introduction to the life of Shinobi." I just shook my head and told him he shouldn't worry.

"Hard hit?" Iruka-Sensei looked over to us in surprise but also worry. To my chagrin he did explain the situation and Iruka-Sensei did question his judgement and wilingness to start a mission but I stopped him so we could take off.

"Alright how many missions would you want to take on Team 10" The Hokage listed out possible D-Ranks and I saw the shrinking excitement from Ino and Choji's face deteriorating by the second.

Eventually we left picking 3 mission the first one was to paint a newly built fence, the second one would be a Harvesting mission where we need to gather an appropriate number of this plant that the buyer showed us and third would be helping resupply a clothing shop. That last hmm I took a look at my clothes…I wanted to change them maybe I'll add some black clothing and I don't want the mesh shirt showing.

It was the morning and we finished these Missions by the start of noon so like 12pm and we moved over to a shop that has a carriage full of items and we needed to bring them inside and they even said we could take some clothes for ourselves and to tell you I was going to for sure maybe Ino and Choji weren't though. I was still wearing yesterdays clothes and I smelt bad to getting some new clothes would be good.

To be said that Asuma-Sensei helped even a little bit on these missions would be an absolute lie as he didn't help but just made them worse or harder to complete and he always enjoyed our reaction at him being a nuisance like on the mission where we needed to paint the fence he actively made us grab the paint bucket and take it with us and when we dipped our brushes and focused on painting the fence he would always grab the paint bucket and take it a few steps away the bastard! And how he usually stole some of the herbs and said it's training for might happen outside the walls of Konoha but at least he wasn't trying to readily piss us off.

By the time we had all the boxes in the storage room behind the shop I started to look through the boxes in order to see what clothes I liked and truth be told I just wanted a black hoodie and black ninja pants and an secondary color on it. It was simple what I wanted and I continued to search and got the attention of Ino who herself was browsing mildly at the lives of clothes.

Ino walking up to me and tapping my shoulder as I jumped and looked towards her quickly. "Huh it's just you Ino." I grabbed at my heart so I calmed down but Ino did giggle at me and took a look at the box I was looking in labeled hoodies.

"Oh you're looking for new clothes." She peeked inside and saw a variety of colored hoodies and normal jackets inside. I looked at the box and found a light black hoodie that was full black on the end of the sleeves and a actual brown hood. Taking off the mini jacket and headband I took the hoodie and put it on and it fit nicely. I saw Ino look rather appealed at this look as she approved though she went to the pants in my size and searched intent in finding something. Like a black Cargo Pants with a Kunai strap and a multitude of pockets oh nice.

Searching a bit more I search for a normal shirt and end up finding some and even found a face mask woah kinda looked like one of Kakashi's. I kept my sandals and pouch but I got spares of the clothes I chose like 5 of each. I went into a changing room to put on the rest of the out fit as I only had the hoodie on.

5 minutes later I step out with my brown hood with a face mask currently down as my hoodie had 2 blacks and darker one starts only after the sleeves and had no zipper. The black cargo pants with a kunai strap on my right leg with pockets littering my left leg and one right above the Kunai strap on my right legs. Those were the changes and I walked out to see Asuma-Sensei whistling at me and Ino looking impressed at herself. Choji meanwhile was looking like he didn't know me or if it was me. "Shikamaru you look pretty cool best bud." I gave Choji a thumbs up and he smiles at me and I can't help but smile back. Though there still is a problem left. I walk over to a nearby trash can and I grab a kunai. "Shika what are you do-" I grab the head of my messed up ponytail cutting it In half as the hair fell into the trash can. I turn to them and my ponytail now a bit shorter than before but still was long I quickly undo the hair tie as my hair on the top of my head reached my chin and parted on both sides of my head but I still had some hair on my face but it didn't obstruct my vision. My hair was straight so it made me look tons different I could already tell. I picked up the face mask and where it to my nose and stare at them.

They looked positively shocked at the sudden change and Asuma-Sensei and Choji quickly recovered though but Ino. I looked to her and she was blushing… I rub the top of my head and wave at her breaking her attention from her flustered stare she was in before. "Wow Shika you look really good." I smiled at her and closed my eyes and grabbed the hairtie and tied my hair and pull Down the mask.

"Sorry I took to long I'll pack up the clothes really quickly." I wave at them and I stuff everything in a box even my old clothes. I still had the mesh shirt underneath after all.

Walking out of the store while holding a box of stuff.

"Hey Shikamaru you should get home and drop your stuff of we'll be at the same training ground as yesterday. I peeked my head and nodded at Asuma-Sensei as they walked off. The box wasn't necessarily really heavy it's just was weirdly big and there's really no way to grab hold of it so it took quite a while to get home.

Knocking on the door of my own home it was opened by my mom as she looked at my change of clothes and the box. She smiled as though the answer she knew was the right one though it wasn't. "Ino didn't force me to change clothes Ma I just picked some new ones. I'm here to drop them off real quick." At that My Mom had her eyes wide open as I just pass her and go inside and leaving the box in my room to deal with it later…sorry future me…

Going at a light jog across the village to the training grounds I didn't come across anyone I know sadly but I just made my way there and they seemed to be waiting for me.

"Oi Shikamaru." Asuma-Sensei said and waved as I walked over to them.

"Oh are we training." At that Asuma nodded but he wanted to start off lightly as he did grab a scroll from his back pocket a summoned what was some food and Ino and Choji instantly took 2 of the 4. Which I followed I mean we didn't really eat and now that I'm thinking about it I'm really hungry.

Eating our food in the shade as Choji did finish first and started to eat some backup chips as i and Asuma-Sensei finished our food but Ino left some food in her container.

"Hey Ino why don't you eat all your food I know your still hungry." I frowned at her but she just looked down.

"Hey I'm on a diet I'm not trying to ruin my figure." She gave me a tiny glare though I just sighed.

"Ino you look amazing." Keeping my eyes closed I continued. "It doesn't really matter what you eat you'll still look good and even then we're ninja we're bound to train which means exercise and that means burning fat and calories and starving yourself won't help." I opened my eyes as I looked at Ino trying to figure out a counterpoint but ultimately couldn't.

"But Sasuke-" I harshly sighed and looked away Asuma-Sensei could you help you bastard or I'll chop that beard off your head!

"Stop worrying about someone that's not even here worry about your self and in I know you care a lot about being a ninja being pretty is alright but people respect strong kunai hi and who said strong and pretty wasn't a good combo." I smiled at her as she just stared and then looked down at the half eaten food. She opened it and finished it quickly and put it in the floor next to the rest as we stood up for training.

"What do you guys think you need to improve on like reflecting on the battle yesterday what is something you could have done better." Asuma-Sensei clapped bringing our attention to him.

"I was practically burning through my Chakra with my Shadow Imitation Justu so I need to learn better chakra control and overall strengthen my body." I looked down but then looked back up to see Asuma-Sensei nod and look to Choji.

"Umm I need to find a way to be more involved in plans and take more damage Dad said we Akimichi can take and dish out some real damage!" I saw him flex his arm and I just smiled.

"Hmm I…I just need ti get better at everything…" Ino stayed quiet I mean being shown up by someone like me someone that was only barely above the dead last in the Academy.

"Well yes you guys only just came out of the Academy but there is no need to be so hard on yourselves I mean you guys already work good together from what I've seen but your individual skills might need some extra work." We all nodded and I took one more glance at Ino and saw something in her eyes like there was a certain flame inside them now…'is this the Will of Fire.'

Smirking before taking a run at one of the taller trees as everyone took at look at me I poured a steady constant chakra to the soles of my feet and ran up the tree at a steady pace until I reached the top where I held the top. I could see so much of the village up here…heh I get it now this is my new life and I'll just have to embrace it!
