Chapter 19 Chunin Exams Finals Start

It was the last day until the start of the Chunin Exams finals and I felt tense like unnecessaryly tense and anxious like I was going to do something important. Well it is important but not like shivering is anxiousness from it. I take deep breaths as I try to calm myself down I know I'll do good and to just forget about the giant crowd in the arena. It was so weird on how people feel these things but I didn't try to worry as worrying won't do me any good.

I try to think about other things while I sit in the tree avoiding the sunlight as the shade of this tree was completely protecting me from the Sun.

Haku…it is awkward especially when I'm with her…maybe it's because of the kiss she gave me is why I'm still not really talking to her it was a real weird thing that sometimes I can't comprehend but I would like to maybe talk to her about that and if it was just a reckless act of feelings or something a bit more. Honestly I didn't have a clue though I didn't rule out the second one out completely but hey…maybe…I don't know. I just want to be friends I guess right now I'm just a teenager that needs to get the world off my back and live in the moment. Remember those words. If I change things too much then things will happen to offset the things I have done like in Wave it might have changed like the Akatsuki showing up or something could change like people not coming to understand anything they should like Naruto and his learning of the cycle of hatred and learning of forgiveness from Pain and many different things.

It's all just mind boggling though there is something I want to change and that would be about Kakashi-Sensei and Sasuke.

If I could convince Jiraiya to take both Naruto and Sasuke with him on the 2 and a half year training trip not only would Sasuke and Naruto be stronger but I could potentially have Kakashi-Sensei as my full time teacher with Asuma-Sensei as my team leader as Sakura might lean more and more into medical Ninjutsu and Genjutsu that might fall out of Kakashi-Sensei's grasp. There is something I have planned and it should be after Naruto leaves the village and hopefully with Sasuke. I sound kinda selfish don't I.

Whatever I'm not trying to be someone I'm not like I can't be Shikamaru and I can't act like the Sunshine Naruto I have to be me and me is who is the best for me. If you get me. I always do this I talk to myself like there's an audience always looking at me…maybe I am just made for someone's entertainment…whatever they could watch me it's weird but what do you want me to say stop to something invisible or. I might just be going crazy.

I wasn't wearing my weights today which felt nice and I tested my speed and boy was I surprised that I actually predicted the amount I improved being at a High Chunin speed and Chunin strength but overall everything about me other then Jutsu leveled up a bit. I after getting my ass kicked multiple times a day by Asuma-Sensei has gotten me to get better at Taijutsu which matches with my newfound speed and strength will hopefully surpace what Sasuke was able to do in the normal Chunin Exams.

I ran at full speed from the edge of the training ground to the other half and trying to overall get used to this new speed it felt nice but knowing there was still stronger I strapped myself wanting get even stronger.

Day of Chunin Exams Final

Waking up at my normal alarm clock time I pressed it down to stop it and went around my normal mourning ritual of showering then my clothes and going to eat which was already there as I sat on the seat and started to serve myself while I had a constant smile with my parents having one of there own.

"Shikamaru you know I didn't think you would get here so early in your cart it took me at lest a year to get here and only half as much time your already in the finals." Shikaku said as he held onto me and rustled my hair with his fingers as I looked up at him as he drank his daily dose of coffee. I didn't want to drink it today so I just had a light breakfast ready to go only a bit earlier then needed at like what 10am was when you needed to get there I woke up at 8 took me an hour to finish my morning ritual and now I'm eating breakfast at 9 gives me time to lounge around for a bit while getting everything In order for the Chunin Exams and later the Konoha crush.

Walking my way towards the arena that was not even that far from the Academy like it was directly behind the Academy but they made it seem like it was so far away. I walked past a multitude of people trying to sell me things I really didn't need especially after I wasted all my money to pay off the sword that still is at least ¼ not paid for. Eh why did that Chokuto even cost that much in the first place? Maybe it's because of the craftsmanship of it but maybe it's for a different reason entirely. Probably not it's just a good sword.

I walk and I even see a Anbu in the distance. So there mobilizing huh yea I remember Asuma-Sensei telling me about the immobilization of everyone in the Shinobi corps that the Hokage and Mizukage had control over as I remember what Asuma-Sensei said that Jiraiya of the Sannin and Mei were up there with Lord Hokage and also Haku and when things or if things got sticky there might be a Anbu squad that could be summoned by the two Kage to assist them if they really needed it but the Anbu would be taken from where they were probably lying in wait or helping civilians escaping. Probably the ladder though.

Making it int eh contenders box I walk inside as Asuma-Sensei was in the stands I remember with Ino and Choji while I walk inside to see the Sand Ninja in there staring holes or more like Gaara staring holes at me while the other two where minding there own business as I saw Sakura here as well as I went to greet here.

"Yo, Sakura" I said as I walk up to her and wave my hand in her direction as she smiles.

"It's nice to see you Shikamaru-Kun" she said as she looked up at the screen in the other side of the arena showing the brackets saying she had it fight one of her teammates and her teammates had to fight eachother.

"Yea these matches…aren't they kinda not favoring your team like at all. But maybe that's what you get." Sakura looked a bit confused at why I said that.

"I mean only your team and the sand ninja over there have there full teams here and one of them completely destroyed Tenten while the guy with the makeup got a free pass." I pointed to them as Kankuro perked up when he heard me.

"It's war paint not makeup!" I just make a face at him.

"What war are you using paint for you look stupid." I point at him as he wanted to come teach me a lesson.

"All you leaf ninja are the same all bark and no bite I'll just have to teach you kids a lesson." He said clenching his fist.

"Kankuro" Gaara said as he stared very closely at me wanting to spill my blood on the floor.

"Shikamaru Nara you will die in our match." Gaara said as I look over to him.

"Nah I don't think soo." I layer my head next to my hand letting my elbow rest on the railing.

"You don't have a choice in the matter." Gaara sneered.

"Nah I have to many people that care about me that won't let me die so for right now I'm unkillable." I say confidently.

"Why…why do you have any bonds in the first place they only make you weaker." At that I look at him but when I was going to reply Sakura cut me off by standing In front of me.

"Bonds are what make life enjoyable it makes you feel happy, stronger and when you fight to protect them you'll give your anything and your everything to protect them." She said to him as she was raising her voice that brought everyone in attending the competitions box to see them luckily it was only us 5.

"Those who bring worthless emotions into fighting are weak." Gaara said with finality in his tone.

"That's wrong! These emotions are what make you, you. you can't be emotionless then what would you even be fighting for to kill people? I-I may not know a lot about you but…I get the feeling you've been alone haven't you." Sakura said as Gaara's eyes widen a bit at her as he grit his teeth.

"The feeling of being alone…I may not have felt it for long but in one point in my life I did…I looked at all the kids at the park playing with there friends and being by myself hell…I was even bullied…it was unbearable wasn't it." I saw a look in Sakura's eyes that made me think she was about to cry about talking about this. Gaara just looked at Sakura with a little more warning and wanting to scream out that she's wrong about everything and she should just buy out of his life.

"But there are others…others that saved me from that place twice now those people have saved me from myself." Sakura said as a tear let out of her eye as I just stare at her myself as she looked down not wanting to see anybody in her state.

"These people saved me from myself and I care about them more than I do myself that's why we won't let you hurt them or Shikamaru-Kun that's why I won't give up that's why Shikamaru-Kun won't give up and I won't let you hurt them." At that Gaara's eyes hyper focused on her as he started to breath heavier with everything going on in his sleep depraved mind.

"W-why would you do anything for anyone else!" Gaara yelled spooking Temari and Kankuro but I saw Sakura didn't move when he shouted at her in anger.

"How many times do I have to tell you that they saved me from Myself! My Loneliness! My Demons! They were some of the first people to accept me for who I am and I owe them the world!" Sakura yelled constantly as her voice started to slowly break. 'She's so emotional…maybe it's because she doesn't want to hurt her comrades or friends rather that all these things just kept piling up her stress.'

Gaara looked on shocked at her not knowing what retort to make to preserve his own views as a sharp pain in his head probably of Shukaku in his head.

"You have people who care about you even though you may not have known it I have seen them trying and trying to help you but you need to let them help you from yourself Gaara-San you have people who care about you and don't you forget it." Sakura said vehemently as she walked away from us.

"Sakura where are you goi-" I try to stop her but she only continues to walk away before saying "I need to clear my head." She said as she turned the corner and walked off as I left her to her own devices.

'I…I never would have thought that about Sakura and how she would implode over the stress of this Chunin Exams and everything about being a Ninja.' I think as I saw Gaara turn to his siblings as Kankuro laid his hand on his shoulder and Temari hugged him from behind as his eyes widened at the feelings he felt as he gripped his heart not knowing what to feel.

"I-I why" he said to his siblings as tears started to spill as he didn't know why.

"Because your our little brother and I'm glad we have him back" Temari said as she hugged him harder and Kankuro nodded smiling warmly. Gaara couldn't comprehend this and looked the way Sakura went.

'Who are you Sakura Haruno…?'

20 minutes later

Everyone now stood in the middle of the arena and standing with me was Sakura after calming down and letting it all out felt better about this all and now I could see she's in the mood for winning.

"May all but Subaku no Kankuro Vs Hinata Hyuga. Stay here in the arena" at that we all went out of the battlefield back into the competitors box waiting for the match to start.

"First match of the Chunin Exams Finals Kankuro Vs Hinata are you ready." Genma the Procter of this Chunin Exams finals said as the Senbon in his mouth moved from right to left. Genma saw a ready from Hinata but from Kankuro he verbally responded.

"I quit" he said quickly as Hinata looked at him puzzled but he just walked away.

He walked back to the competitor's box as everyone just stared as Naruto decided to talk to him about it.

"The hell why are you even here!?" Naruto said which a failed to hide my amusement while Kankuro wanted to shout at the kid but kept his control over himself and just ignored the kid.

"Well…may Subaku No Temari and Hyuga Neji come into the arena." Genma said with a small sweatdrop came from his brow upon the boo's Kankuro's gotten while Hinata just walked peacefully into the competitor's box.

Temari looked across the battlefield to see Neji concentrating on her and only her as she grabbed hold of her fan ready to use it at any time as Genma was beginning to talk.

"Second match of the Chunin exams Temari Vs Neji are you two ready." They both gave him confirmations in no particular way but that didn't matter as he flicked his hand down and quickly jumped out of the way of a "Wind Style: Wind Scythe Jutsu" a wave of Wind came and shook the air around as Neji jumped above the wind threatening to slash him into two pieces as he threw a couple of Kunai and Shuriken at her but to only get them slashed away by the winds generated by the fan on her back.

Temari kept firing off wind style jutsu not wanting the Hyuga knowing how they could shut you down up close so she kept her distance until she sent a "Wind Style: Sickle Weasel Justu." Creating multiple currents of wind that collide with each other making small vacuum pockets.

Neji wouldn't be able to escape in time so he tried his improvised Rotation as he span around making the ball of Chakra protect him from the winds that eventually stopped as he stopped the rotation and seemed fine. Neji rushed now seeing a small chance and throwing some tools at Temari who had to dodge them as she looked at the incoming Neji ready to return the favor by swinging her scythe again for "Wind Style: Sickle Weasel Justu" instead was making a tornado and when Neji went to do a Rotation and did one it clashed with the tornado of wind and destroyed the Rotation sending him hurdling with cuts on his body. He quickly picked himself up feeling the damage it had on him and wen back at the girl not having any other option.

Neji not having much option had to just run towards her in hopes she runs out of Chakra before he does as he sees her Chakra as sees that she's lost about 49 percent and wanting to wear her out kept throwing more weapons that she either dodged or used a wind jutsu to counteract them back at Neji which he dodged and sometimes only barely.

This went on for a bit as Neji gradually lowered her Chakra amount by all this waiting as having enough of it she ran at Neji ready to use another wind jutsu with her fan using it bluntly.

At first when she rushed she saw the boy ran at her as well as she provided another wind jutsu as he saw and went to do a rotation as well but she was quicker and released hers first hitting him catching him off guard with a "Wind Style: Sickle Weasel Jutsu" as it sent Neji flying as it dispelled the rotation as he was caught in the air with multiple more cuts as he slammed into the wall and fell onto the floor as he couldn't get up with all the damage on him.

"Winner Subaku No Temari" Genma announced as he called over for some medics to come pick up the injured kid as they carried a stretcher and put the kid onto it.

Hokage seating

Currently up in the Hokage's box was the Hokage Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Kazekage, Jiraiya, The newly instated Mizukage which surprised the 'Kazekage' as the Mist sent none of there teams here if he knew. With the Mizukage was her bodyguard which was Haku and the Mizukage was a woman by the name of Mei Terumi.

"Oh my your daughter as quite the amount of talent and skill." Hiruzen said as Jiraiya was standing next to his old teacher as he looked at the 'Kazekage' in a silent gaze.

"Yea yes she is quite the prodigy." He said as he went on about wanting to see the Uchiha.

"Hmm you're quite intrigued in seeing the last Uchiha aren't you Kazekage-dono" Mei said as she looked at the other Kage's and the Kage nodded.

5 Days Ago…

Hiruzen was in his office just when his old student Jiraiya decided to pay him a little visit and that's when he told him about Orochimaru attacking the village during the Chunin Ecams Finals and how they just got into a peace treaty with the mist.

"At the new Mizukage Mei Terumi." Jiraiya assumed as he himself heard about the woman due to his own Spy network moving far and wide around the ninja world.

Hiruzen nodded as he stood up and looked out of the window.

"Yea well why is he even in Konoha or going to attack Konoha in the first place." Jiraiya asked his now aged Sensei this question.

"Well one is to hopefully kill me in battle and another would be of the theft of the last Uchiha perhaps it would be young Sasuke's eyes that he's after or his…body…" Hiruzen said grimly and Jiraiya nodded with the older man.

"So…what even brought the Mizukage to the leaf village in the first place." Jiraiya asked upon backtracking in his thoughts.

"Well first it was to inform us about the attack of the Chunin Exams but she was brought here due to the recommendation of Shikamaru Nara that believed in his words that ultimately ask for our help to rebuild the Mist and with the amount of Shinobi under her now in Konoha we'll be having an easier time protecting everyone during the attack." Hiruzen said as he looked at his pipe and started to light it up.

"Plus having another one of the great hidden villages as an Ally will help especially with everything they may be able to provide in trading and what they could do for the Leaf's economics and one last thing."

Hiruzen light up his pipe and soon took a long puff inside and let out smoke.

"It seems that I might be getting some more grandchildren." Hiruzen said as he smiled as Jiraiya had a shell shocked expression.

"You mean Asuma and her are in a relationship." Hiruzen chuckled at his student and specified.

"No not in a relationship like that…yet but I can see it in there eyes and I could see both of them reciprocating each others feelings." Hiruzen said as he himself chuckled as Jiraiya himself didn't know what to say.

Back to Chunin Exams Final

"Shikamaru Nara Vs Subaku No Gaara" Genma said as I look over to Gaara who looked over to me and I jumped down landing and walking next to Genma while Gaara just used a Body Flicker with sand covering his body and appearing right across from me.

"Are you two ready." Genma Asked as I look over to him and I nod prepared I guess to take on Gaara as he looked at me for a second then at his siblings who were cheering him on and he looked at Genma and nodded.

"Third Match of the Chunin Exams Finals Gaara Vs Shikamaru." Genma opened his arm from the way he crossed his arms and lowered it quickly jumped back as sand poured from his gourd I jumped back just avoiding the sudden wave of sand that came from their. I currently run without boosting myself with my Chakra as I try and find an opening and quickly with all my speed rush at him and cause his sand armor to pop up trying to cover my punch but I instantly move away and recreate the same movement Lee did in his fight with the punch rocketing him to the floor a couple of feet away. I heard a growl as he got up and went to attack but then grabbed at his head.

"Mother…please wait…" he said as I was stalking him as I ran around him at speeds matching Lee weightless but I was sure that I could go faster so I was using this to pace myself especially after that waterfall walking helped me gain more chakra and control over it.

After a kick and a combo of quick punches he managed to hit me with a wave of his sand as he looked at me with some anger. I picked myself quickly as Sand went after me as I jump away from the first wave of sand before jumping away from another wave of sand. I grabbed a couple pieces of Shuriken and Kunai from my pouch and throw them at Gaara using his sand armor before I rush towards Gaara where on the other side where his Sand wasn't as I sent a punch sending him further as his sand had to act like a cushion for the floor as it picked him up and and started to form a ball of sand.

I check around the staduim as I couldn't see anyone apart from the invaders so I gritted my teeth mildly and looked over to Genma and did a slight nod which he under stood and swapped where his Senbon was on his mouth as I threw a kunai at him with my shadow on it but this one was different instead of trying to capture him first and then the Shadow Stitching Jutsu but why not just use the Shadow Stitching Jutsu on the Kunai to make it pointier and sharper as the Kunai in the air went from the normal gray to black as the shadow on the Kunai fueled it as it struck against the sand sinking inside and we heard the sound of human flesh as it stopped halfway of entering the sand orb so it must have done like a slash or something on his left shoulder.

"My Blood it's My Blood!" I jump at the yell as the sand around him stopped and fell down harmlessly as he stood as he looked at me though I did see Temari and Kankuro jump to him immediately aiming to protect him.

"Gaara we need to leave you remember the plan." Temari said as Gaara looked at me then at Temari and nodded. I rush at them as I grabbed a kunai and another discreetly as the one in my right was the one parried from Baki the Sand nin Jonin who I kick off from and when he went for a quick retaliation slice at me I captured him with my shadow.

"Baki-Sensei!" Temari called as she saw her Sensei get captured in shadows. Currently everyone in the stands had no idea and when the sand ninja said it said volumes.

"Take Gaara and fulfill the plan." With that they turned to leave but watched there Sensei get impaled by Shadows as I held out my last hand seal as everyone stared at me.

"C'mon and get some you assholes!" I yelled as multiple ninja from sound and Sand were on me asap seeing me kill one of there top Jonin as I jump back as I look at the sand siblings one last time before turning my head towards the 8 collective Ninja that laid dead there.

I turn fully to them and crack my knuckles as they were already outside of the arena.

"Come back here!" I said as I rushed behind them with multiple Shinobi trying to block my path only to have them deflected by Shinobi's of either Leaf or mist deflecting them.
