~Yuto's POV~
Yuto and Tokoyami both got to their feet, looking around as everyone in the cafeteria started to panic at what the alarms meant.
"Any idea what the alarms mean?" Yuto asked. Past experiences with loud alarms triggered his flight instincts. Unfortunately, he wasn't on a job, instead he was at UA and he wasn't sure if he could slip into shadow easily, that wasn't very 'Plus- Ultra' of him to leave Tokoyami behind.
"I believe it means UA has been infiltrated." Tokoyami answered him. Yuto's adrenaline started to cause him to twitch as he and Tokoyami started to follow everyone else as they rushed for the halls. Yuto wasn't sure why he was following the panicked crowd, it wasn't as if panicked crowding was helping anything.
"Yuto!" Tokoyami shouted as they were separated from each other. Yuto glanced around for Tokoyami or his siblings.
"Yuto?" Kana's shouting grabbed his attention, but he couldn't see her.
"Kana! Tokoyami!" Yuto shouted as bodies started to press in on him causing him to panic even more. He wasn't very claustrophobic but with this many people shoving and pushing against him, he wasn't feeling so good. Yuto moved on instinct and blended into the nearest shadow. Once he was comfortable being nothing but shadow he started to move from one shadow to the next to find either Tokoyami or his siblings. In his shadow state he didn't feel much, he could hear and caught glimpses of the still panicked and rushing crowd above him but nothing else.
The first person he found wasn't Tokoyami or his siblings though, it was Jirou. Yuto chose to stay with Jirou until the crowds above suddenly stopped panicking. He didn't leave Jirou's shadow though, at least until Jirou managed to get to a more wide-open area. She was standing with the other girls of Class 1A.
"-scary. I thought I was going to be pounded flat." Jirou was saying when Yuto started to pull himself free from her shadow.
"So was I." Yuto spoke. Jirou froze while Momo and Mina half-screamed, half-yelled when Yuto poked his head out of Jirou's shadow. Yuto flinched and melted back into the shadows for a second time. He got back out when he was sure Jirou wouldn't freak out. "Sorry, I guess I should have said something earlier but, there's really no way to not freak someone out when I come out of their shadow." Yuto's shoulders were free as he spoke to Jirou and the other girls. The only one not present were Uraraka and Tsu.
"How long have you been in my shadow?" Jirou asked. Yuto shrugged.
"Since we were in the hall?" He glanced around, noting that they were in the courtyard outside the cafeteria. "I panicked when everyone started to push against each other. I'm not good in tight spaces and I reacted instinctively by going into the shadows. I just kept shadow jumping until I found someone's shadow who was familiar to me. I'm sorry."
"It's okay, you're Yuto right?" Jirou asked. Yuto nodded. "You're usually with Tokoyami, how come you didn't find his shadow?" Yuto jumped out of Jirou's shadow to stand fully in the shade of the building.
"I tried to find it." Yuto stated. "But like I said, there were a lot of shadows, and everyone was panicked. When shadows are that squeezed into each other I can't differentiate one from the other. I just held on to your shadow because it was familiar." Yuto explained patiently.
"You can differentiate shadows?" Momo asked him, intrigued. Yuto nodded.
"Yes, it's the same as seeing an outline of a person except I can also feel the person in a way. It's hard to explain." Yuto rubbed the back of his head. He gave Jirou a friendly smile. "But thanks for not freaking out too much Jirou. I'd better go find Tokoyami to see if he's okay."
"Do you want to walk with us? We were heading back to class." Mina asked. Yuto wanted to find Tokoyami to see if his friend was okay but if the girls were heading to class again, it made sense to go with them. Tokoyami would have headed back first chance he got since they did still have afternoon Hero Training to do.
"Okay sure." Yuto smiled as the four of them started for Class 1A.
"I've been meaning to ask Yuto, are you Kana and James siblings? Like triplets?" Mina asked curiously. Yuto blinked.
"No. They're my cousins." He noticed Momo giving him the sympathetic looks that others had previously and wondered if James had told her about their parentage. Thankfully no one asked about his parents, but Momo did ask,
"James was telling me that you guys live with your older cousin, how old is she?"
"Why?" Yuto asked. Why did Shina's age matter? As far as he knew she was old enough.
"I believe I've seen you guys get in the same car in the afternoon and the morning and it's always a red-haired woman picking you guys up, but she doesn't look that old." Momo stated. Yuto hummed as he held open the doors for the stairwell.
"She's old enough." He stated with a smile. The girls all wondered if he knew and was avoiding answering to protect her integrity or if he really didn't know. "How do you girls like UA so far?" Yuto asked.
"I like it so far." Jirou answered. "Except for this incident of course. No sure what that was all about."
"It was the reporters who came in." Momo answered her. Yuto perked his ears to listen. "From what I heard, they somehow got in."
"I thought the gates had closed when they tried?" Yuto couldn't help but ask. "I was there when they closed up after that reporter woman tried to come onto campus."
"I'm not too sure." Momo stated. "None of the teachers have been around to answer these questions. I'm sure they've managed to patch up the breach in security though."
"Hard to believe that they'd go to extreme measures just to interview All Might." Mina said. "He's a good teacher but he's not around unless he's teaching class."
"He's the number one hero in Japan." Yuto spoke, repeating Shina's words from a few days prior. "All Might's teaching here has been the only thing in the news recently that's been big enough to catch their interest. As soon as something else catches their interest they'd be gone. It may take a while though."
"Unfortunately, that is probably true." Momo sighed. "While their actions have been disgraceful and irresponsible, they are very much intent on interviewing All Might. It would be better if he gave some sort of statement to put them off from trying to get back into UA again. At the very least it would not cause such a panic again."
"What caused the panicking to stop?" Yuto asked. "I was aware everyone had stopped moving but I wasn't sure why. I just felt people leaving."
"Iida managed to get everyone's attention and reminded them we are heroes in training and should be acting like it." Jirou answered. "I wasn't expecting that level of authority from him."
"Guess now I can see why James was so adamant that Iida be the Class President." Momo sighed.
"You'd be a good President too Momo." Yuto said. "But Iida has that annoying and persistent personality that demands perfection. You're not that annoying or strict." He gave her a teasing smile while Momo blinked in thought.
"Hmm, I suppose that makes sense." Momo answered begrudgingly as they rounded the corner to see 1A just up a head. Yuto was glad to see Kana and James further down the hall and coming his way. They were walking with Kirishima and Denki.
"Don't worry Momo," Mina smiled at her, "You can be the President of the girls club for Class 1A."
"Not sure if my vote counts but I would vote for you." Yuto cheered.
"Same here." Jirou chuckled. Momo had a red blush on her face.
"Thank you all." They entered the class to see Midoriya, Uraraka and Iida already there as well as Bakugou, Shoji and Hagakure. Yuto saw Tokoyami at his desk and let out a breath at seeing his friend okay.
"You're okay." Tokoyami spoke when Yuto got closer to their desks. "I didn't see you exit the halls back to the cafeteria." Yuto noticed his bag was on his seat and he smiled at Tokoyami thankful he had grabbed it for him. Yuto scratched the back of his head in embarrassment.
"I got too claustrophobic and ended up slipping into shadows. I stayed in Jirou's shadow until they stopped moving and then practically scared her half to death when I came out." Tokoyami nodded. "Were you or Dark Shadow hurt?"
"We suffered only the effects of being pressed together like sardines." Yuto had to grin at Tokoyami's dramatics. "Dark Shadow was worried about you." On cue Dark Shadow slithered out into the light.
"Yuto!" Dark Shadow screeched in happiness. Their dark wings spread in happiness at seeing him. "You're okay!"
"And you're okay! I was so worried about you." Yuto cried. "Don't leave me again Dark Shadow, my life would be dark without your wonderful personality and light."
"I would never leave you my Dark Prince!" Dark Shadow chirped. "You are my one true friend!"
"You two are impossible." Tokoyami huffed. Yuto and Dark Shadow looked at each other before they looked at Tokoyami.
"Don't worry Tokoyami, you will forever be my dark rose." Dark Shadow called.
"I shall forever cherish our friendship Tokoyami. You are the dark brother I never had."
"Weirdo's." James stated as he plopped at his desk. "I thought I was your dark brother."
"Technically you're my cousin. I mean we are blood family but you're also a putty cat." James glared at him.
"Say that again and I will claw out your tongue." Yuto raised an eyebrow in challenge.
"You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man."
"Enough both of you." Kana ordered tiredly. "Can we have peace for one day?"
"I'm sure you get a few hours of peace every other week to be combined into one day." James answered her, transferring his chaotic brooding to her instead of Yuto who went back to chatting with Tokoyami and Dark Shadow until Aizawa came in. Everyone quickly sat down to get the lesson started. Yuto hoped it would be another training round in the Beta training ground. He should have looked at that training schedule that Kana had copied from the front office before Shina had given it to Shigaraki.
"Good afternoon class." Aizawa greeted them. "I'd hope you were all paying attention in your last class, as today we will be going to Training Ground Beta. This time we're going to have you switch partners in the Hero vs. Villain roles. Gather your suits and let's get going." Yuto felt adrenaline pump through his body as he looked at his classmates, this was going to be fun.
~Shina's POV~
'Come by the bar tonight.'
Shina frowned at the text again. She had been wondering about it all day but no matter how many theories she had about what Shigaraki would want with her, nothing came to mind. She had managed to gather more data from the Hero Commission's Main building since stealing the security blueprints as well as the directory of staff. She'd made it all the way to the sixth floor and hacked her way into the Heroes Billboard database from this past year. It wasn't the full list, more like an incomplete list that only went to the first 100 Heroes on the list. It included their Hero name, Quirk, what district they worked in and what their mission numbers were. She needed to get to a higher floor if she was going to gather the more personal data. Which is what she'd be doing tonight if Shigaraki hadn't called her in.
Shina sighed and clicked her cell phone off before she looked around. There weren't any reporters at the front of the entrance anymore. She wondered what had happened to have cleared them from the premises so fast. They'd practically camped out the entrance the past three days making it impossible for her to get closer in case anyone happened to recognize her. She doubted it but she wasn't going to be testing that anytime soon.
The thought of reporters had Shina thinking back to Shigaraki's text as once again, she tried to figure out it's meaning only to come up blank. She hated riddles of any kind. This was no exception. She wished she could just drop by now and see what he wanted but she needed to get the kids and take them home. She also needed to review her plans for the Commission building because if she was going to be in the area tonight, she may as well try and get to a higher floor to see what they had in those computers. This job was starting to be a hassle with its complexity, but Shina couldn't help the feeling she got every time she thought about breaking into the high-tech building. It was the same thrill she'd gotten when they had stolen the Declaration of Independence. Darn Nicholas Cage movie.
So lost in her own thoughts about her questionable morals and client-employee responsibilities, Shina didn't notice the kids were approaching the car until the passenger and back doors opened. Shina looked over in time to stop herself from throwing a light beam at Kana who just sat down and buckled in after getting her bag set on the floor. The rearview mirror showed Yuto and James getting in the back seat.
"You okay?" Kana asked, concern evident in her voice. Shina sighed.
"Sorry, I was thinking too hard, and I didn't notice you guys coming until you actually got in. I almost shot a light beam at you."
"I hope it would have been a low-dosage beam in that case." Kana said. Shina snorted.
"You should know me better than that." Shina checked her mirrors before she pulled away from the curb.
"What's got you so jumpy?" James asked from the back. Shina mentally debated with telling them too much but, her policy was to not lie about these kinds of things. From her short time in this business, lies were usually the main downfall among groups.
"Shigaraki texted me that he wants me to come by later." Shina eventually ground out.
"Why?" James frowned in confusion. "Do you have more info for him?"
"Not at the moment." Shina admitted. "I'm not sure why he wants me to come by. But I figured if I was going to be in his area then I would try and get more later tonight. I also need you guys to give me your info on the students."
"I don't want to write up my report." Yuto whined.
"I'll help you Yu, we can do it together tonight." Kana promised. "After our homework."
"Good job on the initiative Kana." Shina thanked her.
"Do we have to do the homework?" James asked, trying to nettle his way out. "I mean, its not like this would be necessary." Shina stopped at a red light and glanced at James.
"I've already argued about this with you James. You should already know that we're doing this until we've accomplished our mission."
"Are you sure we can trust them?" Kana asked dubiously. "I know you don't but, do you really think they would delete our info?" Shina sighed as she started driving again.
"Honestly? No, I don't. There are too many unknowns in this job, and I don't like it. But until we're able to make sure our info is deleted from wherever they have it, we can't really do much to protest. Unless we want INTERPOL or worse, Ari on our trail." Shina's thoughts momentarily flickered to the tracker who worked with the FBI back in the States. He'd been the only person to ever get close enough to finding out their identities before they'd gotten more cautious. If he got wind that they were in Japan, Shina didn't doubt he would come to the country just to hunt them down and bring them to justice. INTERPOL was bad but if Ari got tangled with them, it was game over for them all.
"No progress on that front?" Kana asked.
"No. I've only been to the bar so far. Wherever All For One has his data stored, I haven't been able to track it. It's like he's going through Shigaraki for this current plan of action."
"We'll find it." Kana stated.
"Even if we have to destroy him." James stated flatly from the back. Shina frowned at him. "Kidding, I know we don't kill or murder. But maiming is good."
"So is kidnapping, or adult-napping." Yuto added. Shina snorted.
"Okay you two daredevils. Keep it up and I'll have you both run the training course three times." James stiffened.
"I take it back."
"Me too." Yuto said as he brought his knees up to his chest. "I was only kidding heh heh heh…" Shina couldn't help but give a sad smile. She wanted the three of them to take UA seriously so they could hopefully become heroes in the future, or at the very least vigilante's. They couldn't be thieves forever, or at least if they were, there was a chance they'd be caught and thrown into jail. She'd gotten them into the thieving life because she hadn't seen a way around it at sixteen. But now, she really wished they would think of their futures. One that they could have if they didn't steal anymore. It was the reason she had always insisted they wear a mask when out on their jobs.
She should have expected that one of their 'trusted' friends to betray them. The only question was who had given All For One their names? They knew other thieves and assassins throughout the world due to their work, but the list of who knew their real identities was shorter. It pained Shina that one of them would have risked her wrath to expose her kids and herself. She hoped in the end though that it had been worth it, because when she found out who had told, she wasn't going to hesitate to burn their existence to dust motes.
"You okay there?" Kana asked. "You've got your scary face on." Shina glanced over at her with a smile, hiding her dark thoughts or murder and torture.
"I'm fine. Just wondering what's for dinner." Kana didn't look like she believed her and Shina couldn't help but feel pride at how well her instincts were. "I'll be fine, just need to gather more information and hopefully, we can leave this mission behind in a few more weeks."
"Weeks?" James screeched from the back.
"Yes weeks, deal with it furball." Shina snapped. James growled before he suddenly shifted to look at Yuto.
"That reminds me, WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY ANYTHING ABOUT KAMINARI AND THE LASER?!" Yuto flinched.
"I was hoping you'd forgotten that." Shina raised an eyebrow.
"What laser?"
"Oh you're going to love it." Kana gave a wicked grin before launching into the tale.
