~Shina's POV~
The drive to UA High the next day was silent as Shina mulled over how to tell her cousins the plan for this afternoon's field trip. While she had been truthful with Shigaraki about her lack of 'frontline' fighting style, Shina could indeed fight thanks to an amalgamation of friends who had helped to train and give her tips over the years. Due to her Quirk though, it was best if she didn't. Not only was it very recognizable but there was a limit on her Light manipulation Quirk that when used up, would leave her in a bind sure to her unused secondary Quirk. While she doubted Shigaraki would throw her to the wolves, she didn't trust that he'd put her into an awkward situation and leave her to make a bigger mess of things with her cousins to pick up the mess. Their cover would be exposed in that case and their usefulness would be at an end. If that happened, Shina feared what All for One would have them do.
Shina sighed as she thought about this plan. She was halfway to the school and she hadn't given the kids any heads up. She should have told them last night but they'd already been asleep when she had come back. She wouldn't have enough time to prep them for this.
"You okay Shina?" Kana asked in concern.
"Yeah that's the fifth sigh you've made since this morning." James chimed in rudely from the back. Shina slowed the car some, allowing her to take more time to talk about this.
"Is this about your 'call to the principle's office'? Or about your escape from Hawks?" Yuto asked. Shina glanced back at him through the rearview mirror. He held up his phone. "You made the news. No name listed, just 'unknown villain'."
"Great." Shina huffed, heavy on the sarcasm. "I hate to give you guys last minute information like this but, Shigaraki called me in last night to talk about a plan he has to attack All Might. He's going to move in on your class later today when you guys go to the Unforseen Simulation Joint, or USJ for short."
"That's very short notice, are you sure we should be going to school?" Kana asked in concern.
"You'll be fine. The contract with Shigaraki and All For One protects you three, if any of their plans backfire and you're collateral, our contract is over." The three teenagers seemed to think about what Shina had told them. Shina knew James would be the most trouble about this. "James, I know you're thinking about fighting Shigaraki yourself, don't."
"I can take him." James argued. Shina shook her head.
"No, you can't." Shina stated flatly. "You're powerful yes but you're only fifteen."
"I'll be sixteen in two months." He grumbled. "I can go long distances while he has to be close up."
"You still can't kill him." Shina commanded. "I know you want to, but you've never killed anyone."
"Neither have you." He stated. "And you should be able to fight him." Shina sighed. This fight had been going on since All For One had made the contract for their mission. James was angry and a bit too hardheaded to see this wasn't a one and done thing.
"You know why we can't." Shina firmly stated.
"He has our names and info on file dumdum. All our safe houses and every alias we have." Kana chimed in. "If we kill Shigaraki then All For One will release our info to INTERPOL and every agency in the world will be after us. We'd never be safe to stop running."
"We can outrun them." James snapped. "We could just create new aliases. We've done it before. And who's to say we can't take them both out once we find All For One?"
"Because men like them always have backup plans for their backup plans." Yuto stated. "Same as us, only this time we were outmaneuvered. Plus we aren't evil like them J."
"We'll free ourselves eventually." Shina stated as she pulled up to the gate of UA High. "It's just going to take us some time. Until then, do your jobs the best way you can."
"Are you still gathering info on Shigaraki and All For One?" Kana asked. Shina nodded once. "Good. I'll make sure these two stay in line later today."
"I'll be coming in with Shigaraki," Shina said softly. "Not as Shina but as Sunfire. Don't make any movements when you see me. For all you know, you don't know me. I'm a 'villain' and I will hurt you."
"Will you really?" Yuto asked.
"Yes but it'll be for show. I promise not to hurt you too bad." Shina smiled. "It'll be like we're training again, promise."
"Fine, we'll see you later." James opened the door and got out. Yuto followed behind him. Kana lingered behind to say,
"You know he's just upset because he has to put in actual effort for the school thing. He doesn't mean it." Shina sighed but nodded in understanding. She knew the kids weren't liking the schooling process since they'd basically been homeschooling for so long, they were probably suffering from social awkwardness in addition to having to learn beside other students. She didn't begrudge them their little tantrums.
"I know he doesn't mean it. I know you guys are frustrated but thanks for handling it better than the Prima Donna." Shina saw James back tense as he turned his head to glare at her smirking face. Kana giggled.
"He's just a pretty princess." Kana stated. Shina cackled as James' tail puffed up in indignation.
"Alright quit teasing him. Get to class. I'll see you guys this afternoon." Kana nodded before she got out of the car, heading into the school. Shina watched the three of them go in, messing around with each other before she started to drive off. She had to head to the bar to see what Shigaraki had planned.
~Yuto's POV~
The morning classes went as they usually did. Lunch was spent with Tokoyami and Dark Shadow. Yuto had debated on bringing Jiro in to have lunch with them and possibly Shoji but they weren't at lunch. Yuto figured he could ask them to have lunch another day.
Hero Course class in the afternoon had Yuto tingling as he knew what was going on. It took every ounce of self control to not bounce his leg in excitement or anxiety as Aizawa stood in front of them to give them instruction.
"Today's training will be a little bit different. You'll have three instructors. Me, All Might and another faculty member will be keeping tabs on you." Aizawa began their afternoon Hero Course with a speech. Yuto didn't mind the speeches the cat man gave as he didn't beat around the bush much. Something he appreciated as he liked to get started on his assignments and training info.
"Sir! What kind of training is this?" Sero asked.
"Rescue. You'll be dealing with natural disasters, shipwrecks, stuff like that." Yuto smiled as the rest of his classmates exploded in conversation.
"This should be fun right?" Yuto asked Tokoyami.
"It is a bit daunting to think about saving people." Tokoyami stated. "Will we be saving each other, will we be practicing on dolls or real people?" Yuto nodded.
"Yeah I didn't think about that. I just got excited about the possibility of rescuing someone from a shipwreck, wait, how would that work out?" Yuto tapped his chin. "Did they build an obstacle course in one of the training grounds?" Aizawa interrupted the classes excited chatter.
"Guy's I'm not finished yet. What you wear in this exercise is up to you. You can wear your costumes but be reminded that you haven't gotten used to them yet so they may limit you. Due to how far this training is we will be taking a bus."
"Hmm, guess we're going somewhere new." Yuto grinned. The panel in the walls that held their costumes opened to allow the students to grab their hero costumes. Yuto got up to grab his outfit and change.
~Kana's POV~
"You nervous Yu?" Kana asked in a low voice when she stopped right next to him at the boarding area. She crossed her arms over her chest as she watched Iida explain his plan to get everyone on the bus.
"No, I'm excited for this training." He brought his hands to rest behind his head as he stretched. "It would be nice to know what we're walking into though." He switched to Russian. "I know sissy trusts the crusty man-child as far as she can throw him, but from what I saw, he's not one to underestimate when it comes to these kinds of things. He seems like he's good at chaos." Kana hummed before replying in Russian.
"If I know sissy there's no doubt that she explained a plan to separate us from the teachers, even from the other students. You know her normal planning style."
"Picking us off one by one." Yuto murmured. "If Crusty is planning on taking on the #1 hero he's gonna need some serious manpower to keep us all busy. I know this is just a job but," Kana saw him looking at his new emo friend Tokoyami before he looked down. "I've never had a friend outside you guys before and I like him. He's not all hot air like James or," he glanced at her warily, "evil like you."
"I resent that." Kana sputtered. "I'm only evil on certain days." Yuto snorted.
"Try every day. Don't think I don't see you and James sniping at each other when Shina can't see." Kana gaped at him before she glared. Yuto gave her a cheeky smile.
"I don't think I like your new friends influence. You're getting snippy with your older sister brat." Yuto started to chuckle making Kana soften her voice. "It's not good to get too attached to them. Sooner or later, they'll find out what side we're on."
"Which is our side." Yuto argued. "We wouldn't be in this mess if it wasn't for the boss man getting our info. We'd probably still be in the Caribbean working on our tans." Kana snorted.
"You mean turning into red lobsters." Kana sighed and moved her bangs aside, out of her face. "Just, keep an eye out. You heard sissy this morning, we don't know her." Iida started to get everyone onto the bus. "We just stay 'innocent'."
They boarded the bus along with their schoolmates. Iida had tried to get them to all get onto the bus according to his very strict seating chart, but the buses layout quickly derailed that plan. Kana sat beside Denki while Yuto went to sit beside Tokoyami. James sat down beside her and on his other side sat Mina.
"This is pretty exciting isn't it?" Denki spoke.
"It's only a short way away from UA." Kana spoke softly.
"Hey Midoriya," Tsu spoke up across Kana. Kana tuned into what she was saying. "I hope you don't mind me saying,"
"Saying what Tsuyu?" Midoriya stuttered. Out of all their classmates, Midoriya was the is odd out mainly because she had noticed him struggle with his Quirk. He was certainly smart, a lot more observant than her when it came to Quirks, but Kana still maintained that Midoriya was a problem child with no regard for his own safety. She hoped someone beat some common sense into the kid before he offed himself or someone else did it.
"Your Quirk resembles All Mights." Kana saw the panic on his face before he opened his mouth and started to stutter his surprise. If Kana didn't know better she would have thought there was something more there. With Midoriya though, she doubted it. He was quirky that was all.
"All Might doesn't hurt himself the way Midoriya does." Kana stated.
"They're different in that way." Kirishima agreed with her. "But that sort of simple strength enhancing Quirk is awesome though. You can do a lot of cool stuff with it. My Hardening Quirk isn't like that. Sure, it's good in a fight, but otherwise it's boring." Kana frowned at how easily Kirishima put himself down about his Quirk.
"You shouldn't say that about your Quirk Kirishima." Kana chastised lightly.
"Yeah," Midoriya agreed. "I think your Quirk is awesome. I think it's more than enough if you want to go pro!"
"Don't forget, power isn't everything." James spoke up. "They have the popularity poll as well as the number of missions too."
"You're just saying that because your quirk is cool and strong." Mina said. Kana snorted as James' tail started to sway lightly on his lap.
"If you want to talk power and popularity, that'd be Bakugou and Todoroki too."
"But Bakugou's unhinged, he'd never be popular." Kana snorted at Tsu's bluntness.
"What'd you say?" Bakugou jumped up. "I'll pound you into the ground face first!"
"See!" Tsu spoke as if he'd proven her point, which he had.
"We've only known each other for a few days, and we've already guessed that your personality sucks more than a pile of crap. I think that's kind of telling." Denki spoke up.
"How about I pound you into a pile of crap?" Bakugou shouted.
"You'd just be proving the point." Kana said. When he glared at her Kana stuck out her tongue at him, not afraid in the least if he decided to get violent. She was violent on a regular basis at home, she could handle the angry Pomeranian. Bakugou started to stew in his miasma of dankness while everyone chuckled.
"We're here!" Aizawa announced. "Everyone line up!" Getting off the bus wasn't anything special. It wasn't until they had entered the stadium sized building that Kana felt her respect and awe increase as she saw the large open arena that held different 'rescue' simulations. It looked like an indoor carnival.
"Oh!"
"You sure we aren't in Universal Studios?"
"Welcome to the Unforseen Simulation Joint!" A marshmallow looking person spoke up. Kana guessed it was their other teacher who would be helping with this exercise. "I designed everything in here myself. You have the flood zone, land-slide zone, hurricane zone, fire zone, etc."
"I can't wait." Yuto spoke up beside Kana. Kana didn't have it in her to remind him that they wouldn't be able to play in the zones. "I want to try them all, except the water one and the landslide zone, those look difficult."
"Before we begin I have a few points!" Their extra teacher called. "So, listen up," Everyone calmed down to pay attention. "As I'm sure many of you are aware, my Quirk is called Black Hole. It can suck in and tear apart anything-"
"You've also used it to save all kinds of people!" Midoriya interrupted, excited.
"Exactly." The heroes voice grew serious. "However, my power could easily kill. "Kana saw everyone's dumbstruck looks as if they were suddenly reminded that despite the power they held, it was still dangerous if they lost control. "I've no doubt there are some among you with similar abilities." Kana knew what her portals could do thanks to Shina's constant training regimes. She'd never had to seriously injure someone, but there had been times where it had been close. She looked to Yuto and even further to see James'blank face. He was more dangerous than her and Yuto combined and while he knew this, she knew he struggled at times to not go on rampages to unleash devastation. She guessed it was just apart of their family history to lose their tempers the way they did. Shina certainly did. "In our superpowered society, the use of Quirks is heavily restricted and supervised. It may look like a stable system, but we must never forget that one wrong move with an uncontrollable Quirk could cause many to die. During Aizawa's Quirk placement test, you all learned of your hidden potentials, through All Might's training, you experienced the danger that your Quirks can do to not just your fellow classmates but to others. This class will help you experience a new perspective, how to save a life with your Quirk. Your powers are not meant to harm people, I hope at the end of this class that you all learn what it means to save a life. That is all!" They bowed.
"Glad Shina taught us differently." James spoke softly coming up to stand at Kana's right. Yuto had come closer to be on Kana's left. They expected the villains to show any moment now.
"It really isn't." Kana whispered. "She taught us our Quirks and how to manipulate them, we learned our limits and just built up from there. It's not unlike what they're doing here."
"The difference is we learned how to do this when we were nine." Yuto joined in on the whispered conversation. "We have more experience than they do. It's not fair is it?"
"No." Kana agreed. "But nothing about our origins is."
"We had a pretty hardcore origin story." James sighed as he stretched his back. Kana and Yuto snorted a laugh. Their moment of levity ended when Aizawa turned quickly. They looked also and saw Shigaraki crawling out of Kurogiri's portal.
"Huddle up and don't move!" Aizawa shouted at them. Kana felt herself respond. The tone of command was one Shina held when it was serious business and despite this being a known thing for them, it was serious as there was the potential for one of them to be injured. "Thirteen! Protect the students!" Marshmallow, Thirteen, moved in closer to them.
"What are they?" Kirishima asked. "More robots?"
"I don't think so Kiri." Kana stated.
"These are villains." Aizawa confirmed as he put on his goggles.
"Thirteen and Eraserhead," Kurogiri spoke. "From our data, All Might is supposed to be here." Kana shivered as she felt like Kurogiri was looking at her.
"Where is he? We've come all this way to play with him." Shigaraki spoke. "Is All Might here?" Out of Kurogiri's portal came a whole group of what Kana assumed were criminals from of the streets, she didn't recognize any of them and doubted they were top tier.
"Well, if he isn't." Sunfire came out of the closing Kurogiri portal fully geared up. "I'm sure he will be when he realizes his students and fellow staff members are in trouble." Kana gulped as anxiety and nervousness clawed up her throat. 'You don't know me…. You don't know me… Come on Kana, get it together.' Kana grit her teeth.
~James POV~
"Villains? No way!"
"What villain would be dumb enough to break into a school for heroes?" James would normally agree with that statement, however considering he knew who was crazy enough for this kind of plan he couldn't argue. Shigaraki was crazy, even before James had officially met him he knew he was no good. James' only guilt-ridden thought was that Momo and Mina could potentially be harmed here. He hadn't known both girls long, but he genuinely liked them. They were cool.
The other issue was that he couldn't fight any students or go full out against the low-level villains Shigaraki had brought. It would just make him look suspicious.
"Sensei, aren't there intruder sensors?" Momo asked as she pulled out a metal rod from her body in defense. James was proud at her quick thinking. He only needed to flex his fingers and his nails would sharpen into claws.
"Yes, there are." Thirteen spoke up sounding confused.
"Then does that mean they're only here in the building or also at the main building?" Todoroki asked.
"It has to be a Quirk one of them has."
"This place is far from the main building." James confirmed. "And there are only two Licensed Heroes. They chose a good time to make an entrance."
"They must have an objective." Bakugou acknowledged. "This is a well-coordinated sneak attack."
"Well, they did say they wanted All Might." Yuto said. "I must say I'm a bit offended at being used as bait."
"What do we do?" Mina asked nervously.
"Thirteen! Get the students to safety. Try signaling the main building for help. There must be an electric-type that's blocking the signal."
"Kaminari try using your Quirk to signal for help!"
"On it." James briefly wondered how that would go as Kaminari wasn't exactly the smartest student here. He didn't say anything though as he knew Kana was his best friend, annoyed as he was about that.
"You can't take that many!" Midoriya called. "That's too many Quirks for you to nullify."
"No good hero is a one trick pony." Aizawa stated. "Thirteen, take care of them." James watched as Aizawa launched himself forward down the stairs towards the villains. James felt a jolt of anxiety go through him at seeing his favorite teacher head into battle. The anxiety abated as he watched Aizawa basically annihilate the villains who ran forward thinking Aizawa wasn't that strong.
"Students come follow me." Thirteen called them all to the front doors. James hesitated to follow as he had seen Shina come in after Shigaraki and while he wanted to stay to join her, he knew he wouldn't be able to without placing his siblings in jeopardy. James growled under his breath and turned away to go with everyone else as they ran.
They were stopped from going much farther as Kurogiri appeared in front of the class as a large mass of dark purple smoke.
"Greetings, we are the League of Villans. Forgive our audacity but we have come here to UA High for the sole purpose of ending the Symbol of Peace, All Might." James saw Bakugou and Kirishima rush forward to do a combo hit with pure force and an explosion hit on Kurogiri. James doubted it would hurt Kurogiri as it was the same compound as Kana's portal, just without the large mass of smoke. Still the absurdity of these idiots caused a tiny amount of respect to form for them, if only for their audacity.
"Betcha didn't see that coming did you?" Kirishima called. James ear twitched as Kana caught his attention with a whistle. She did a few handsigns to him that had him nodding.
"Kirishima get back!" James yelled. Kirishima looked back at him in shock at using his name, but it was too late. James jumped forward as Kurogiri seemed to explode. He grabbed Bakugou and Kirishima's backs trying to pull them back to safety with Thirteen and the rest of the class, but he wasn't successful. James felt his body go weightless as Kurogiri's Quirk transported them elsewhere.
