Chapter Thirty-Two
~Yuto's POV~
"Yu, could you pass me a water bottle?" Yoshi asked as they watched Youtube on the 3rd floor's small living area. It was just the two of them lounging on the cushy red couches, snacking on chips and drinking random fizzy drinks. Yuto didn't mind relaxing like this as he hadn't seen Yoshi in so long and he was honestly hesitant to do anything that may or may not trigger his best friend. Everyone else was either doing their own thing or in Shina's case, showing the League around the compound. After their introductions had gone down Yuto had taken Yoshi through his shadows and they'd simply started watching Youtube. They did talk here and there but for the most part they stayed silent. Yuto tossed his best friend the mini water bottle beside him before his attention went back to watching Markiplier having a meltdown while playing FNAF. Yuto knew it was an old video and he'd watched it so many times he knew every reaction by heart but he didn't really care, it was amusing to watch and it was his favorite game. That was all he cared about.
"Any bets on how long the League is gonna be living here?" Yuto asked absentmindedly, not looking away from the large television mounted on the wall. He leaned forward to grab a handful of popcorn before he laid back and carefully balanced the popped kernels on his nose. The ones that fell off he either caught them with his fingers or his mouth.
"I don't have a full handle of the League's personalities but statistically speaking, I'm going to say they'll last maybe a month." Yoshi stated. Yuto heard a crunch and glanced over to see Yoshi had started to nibble on a green tea pocky stick as he waved his hand, pulling up holographic screens with different camera views of the compound on it. Yuto quickly ate his popcorn in one bite before he looked closer to see Shina showing the League to their bedrooms on the second floor. "Looks like Shina is finishing with the tour by showing the League their rooms downstairs."
"Had to end sometime." Yuto commented as he watched what rooms the League fit in. "There are eight rooms on the second floor, where is Shigaraki?"
"He's in the middle room that's on the… right? In one of the bigger rooms." Yoshi stated. Yuto frowned lightly in confusion.
"Who got the other master bedroom?" Yoshi pointed at the screen to show Shina waving at Dabi as she ascended the stairs. "Never mind." Yuto strained his ears and heard Shina's voice.
"If you need anything just yell for Claude. He probably won't like it but he'll do it."
"You think Shina's okay with them staying here?" Yoshi asked pulling Yuto's focus from his eavesdropping. Yuto grunted as Yoshi changed the screens to show the other security cameras on the compound that he had access to.
"If she doesn't like it she hasn't said anything, but then again she wouldn't. She doesn't tell us about everything that bothers her." Yuto didn't like it when his mother figure kept things from him. He wanted his brother and sisters to always be comfortable doing what they wanted, even if it was something like planning a heist. Unfortunately, Shina was pretty good about keeping things from them, not that she did it a lot. Shina made a point to not lie to them and she expected the same in return. It was a fair deal in Yuto's eyes. He wasn't so sure about Kana and James though.
"Reminds me of Kira." Yoshi stated. "She kept me and Kai going all the way here and whenever she got this look on her face, I knew it was either a good idea or a very dumb one that somehow," Yoshi stressed this, "ended up alright."
"I swear all the women I know have this ability." Yuto muttered as he laid back onto the couch again.
"Eh, just have to watch out for the 'Shark week' look. Everything else they do is okay so far." Yuto snorted. "What?"
"You realize you're going to be here with Shina, Kira and Blondie when that time comes?" Kana had told them about the blond girl named Toga whose Quirk seemed to revolve around bloodletting. "You better pray they don't sync up." Yoshi turned to him with a serious look on his face.
"I seriously despise you right now." Yuto smirked.
"Better make some alliances with the other guys."
"I'm a bit scared of Shigaraki and the burned taco. Seeing them on the way to breakfast in the mornings is going to be weird." Yuto wheezed as he started to choke on a kernel that had stuck around. His laughter came out half strangled. He blindly reached out for his water bottle.
"What's so funny?" Shina asked as Yuto calmed himself down. Yuto looked behind the couch to see Shina watching them with a soft smile.
"Yoshi called Dabi a 'burned taco'. Almost killed me." Shina immediately rolled her eyes as she hopped over the couch the sit beside him. Yuto grabbed the bowl of popcorn and handed it to her to munch on as she watched the television.
"I wouldn't call them names while they're living here." Shina commented as she ate. "Course some things said in irritation or sarcasm I will forgive." Her words were garbled due to her half-full mouth. "A bit of teasing is alright, but you don't want to get too familiar with them."
"I won't be here long." Yuto reminded her. "We enter the dorms tomorrow." Yuto had already gotten his bags packed and had his things put together. It was all superficial things as he didn't want to take any permanent objects with him in case they needed to leave suddenly.
"You sure you packed everything?" Shina asked.
"Yeah." Yuto did a mental checklist. "Blankets, pillow, laptop, some posters, a few books and other things. As well as my go-bag." Shina nodded.
"What about the cellphone Yoshi and you made? The one with the private and untraceable line?"
"It's in my bag." Yuto stated.
"Lucky." Yoshi muttered.
"If you want a go-bag Yosh we can take you shopping." Shina stated, glancing over at him as he was still looking at his holographic screens.
"It's not that." Yoshi stated. "It's the fact that they get to go to school."
"You want to go to school?" Yuto asked in dismay. UA was alright, they had some interesting hero classes, but the school portion was a bit boring if he was honest. He'd rather be playing a game or two or even training. He missed home schooling. Well... a glimpse of his emo bird had him reconsidering that thought. Yuto mentally frowned as his thoughts started to become tangled again. Yuto didn't like the way he felt torn on the subject of his dear bird friend. He'd never had a true friend like Tokoyami before and lying to him felt... wrong. Yuto could and had gone round and round on this subject more and more lately so he merely shook these thoughts out of his head and focused on Yoshi.
"I've looked at your classes, and they look interesting. I wish I was going to school to learn these." Yoshi swiped his hand to clear his screens, effectively making them disappear.
"You are a strange child." Shina murmured. "Oh, my phone." She started to text on it while Yuto looked at Yoshi considering his next words.
"Hey Yoshi," Yuto stated slowly. "What if we buy you some schoolbooks on the subject that I'm learning about and then in the evenings we can do the homework together so that you can learn about the subjects I'm learning?" Yoshi looked over at him, his brown eyes were wide in surprise.
"You sure?" Yoshi asked hesitantly. "It won't be a distraction?"
"No. If I don't understand anything I'm sure we can have either Kana or James also help with it if we need." Yuto stated giving a reassuring smile to his best criminal friend. He didn't fully understand Yoshi's want to learn what he was learning but he knew this was something Yoshi really wanted so until Yoshi stated otherwise, he would help his friend in anyway he could. Even if that meant he would have to pay better attention in class to understand what he taught Yoshi at the end of the day.
"You trust Kana and James to help teach math and science?" Yoshi asked. Yuto deadpanned.
"Yeah you're right." Kana wasn't good at math and James wasn't good at science. "Maybe Kira and Kai would be good at those?" Yuto tried. Yoshi hummed in thought.
"We could ask them." Yuto opened his mouth to suggest they go and find them to ask but he was interrupted from his train of thought.
"Hey, your delinquent 'siblings' are going to do a run of the obstacle course and they want me to watch them." Shina said, breaking into their conversation. "Wanna go watch them fail?" Yuto mimicked Shina's wicked grin.
"Alright sure."
"I could use some blackmail." Yoshi cackled. Shina got up and started for the stairs. Yuto grabbed Yoshi's arm and held a hand to his mouth. Yuto then pulled Yoshi into the shadows as Shina reached the top of the staircase.
~Shina's POV~
Shina turned her head to see if Yuto and Yoshi were following her down the stairs but they were gone. Shina realized Yuto must have taken Yoshi down through his shadows. Shina sighed, guess it was just her making the slow trek through the massive mansion. She continued down the marble stairs looking around the Ugly House's filigreed moldings and décor. Considering how she'd grown up, she disliked how rich and posh the house looked but it was the only house that had enough room for the obstacle courses that she and the kids relied upon to use for training. It was also the only place that had enough room for all of them now that the League had been saved from living in warehouses.
Shigaraki and the others had taken in the sights okay, often making comments about how well off the Nara clan was with this place and the staff that was here. She didn't take any of the comments to heart and made sure to answer everything they asked as best as she could. Of course, her anxiety wondered if any of the questions that had been asked were answered in the right way. She would be analyzing this later tonight while she laid in bed.
When Shina got to the landing on the second floor she saw one of the doors open to reveal Dabi coming out of his room. He gave her a bored look.
"Got tired of staring at the ostentatious décor?" Shina asked drily. He'd said something about it when she'd been giving him the tour. She had agreed with him but she wasn't going to let him know that. It was better for the League to think the Nara's were rich snobs. Less for them to think about their origins.
"Partially. I noticed the kids in the backyard running through an obstacle course." Shina nodded. Dabi and Shigaraki's rooms gave good views of the backyard landscapes so they would be getting good views to the kids or anyone doing the obstacle course.
"Wanna come watch?" Shina offered. "You can watch some kids compete for a stuffed blue bear as they double cross each other. Someone usually backstabs their partner at some point." That traitor would most likely be Kai or James. Her money was on James as he rarely liked working with others. A door opened on the left side and Spinner poked his head out.
"Did someone say 'double cross'?" Shina couldn't help the smile as she nodded. Spinner fully exited his room. "I'm there." Another door opened from the right-hand side as Twice and Toga came out of their rooms.
"Where is everyone going? Who cares."
"Ooh are we gonna go rob someone?" Toga asked. Shina snorted.
"Yeah you're not coming on any heists with me or my minions."
"Why not?" Twice asked. "Can't handle all this power? Are we not good enough?"
"I'm afraid you two just won't be subtle enough." Shina stated. She raised her voice. "Though if you wanna come watch a couple of teenagers possibly work together and possibly double cross each other as they fight over a blue bear, you're more than welcome to watch. You could also help me pit them against each other."
"Let's go!" Spinner growled, anxious to go as he had crossed to the stairs and was now going down them. Shina suspected his impatience stemmed from his teenage anxiety.
"Let's go Toga!" Twice yelled as he and Spinner took Toga downstairs. Shina glanced at Dabi who simply stood there watching them before he looked at Shina's amused smile.
"You know you wanna come watch this train wreck." Dabi sighed like he was going to be doing something difficult.
"Had to be in a house full of lunatics."
"Eh, being a bit crazy is half the fun Blue." Shina stated. She led him downstairs and to the backyard. The pool sat to the right, nearest to the second back staircase. About a hundred yards straight ahead of them was a wooden structure that sat in the middle of a sandy circle that was lowered into the earth by sixteen feet. The structure was able to be modified as none of the wooden poles were permanent structures. There were metal poles and ropes that connected the structures that were also able to be moved if needed. At the top of the structure was a raggedy blue teddy bear that had an adventurers hat on top of it. It held a tiny bag around it's torso that usually held a prize, either candy or money just depending on Shina's mood.
"About time!" James called up to her from down in the ring. He was standing beside Kai while Kira and Kana had paired up and were on the other side of the ring. They were no doubt doing a boys vs. girls round here.
Shina called down to him. "I was getting reinforcements."
"You really expect them to beat us?" Kira asked in a derisive snort. Shina smiled innocently at her.
"I didn't say they were your reinforcement."
"What?" Shina cackled at the kids reactions. She wasn't going to force the League onto them, but they didn't know that. Shina formed a light whip that she used to whip outwards to the blue teddy bear. The rope wrapped around it and with one quick flick, the bear came flying at her. Shina pulled out a roll of some lesser bills and put it in the bag. Shina closed the bag before she jumped forward, landing on the top of the structure as she jumped from one point to the other until she got to the bears top placement. She retied the bear to his stump before she looked around. Yuto and Yoshi were in the arena as well looking bored. "You sure you want to do this Yoshi?"
"Yuto made me." Yoshi sighed.
"You said you liked being outside!" Kira yelled from across the arena.
"I didn't say anything about doing exercises!" Yoshi snapped back. "I prefer being a guy in the chair."
"You need some exercise!" The chorus came from the other Nara kids and the twin assassins making Yoshi slump in defeat.
"You guys are mean."
"I call it motivationally helpful to the point where you could see yourself hating us but can't because we're lovable." Kana called. Shina scoffed at the long name.
"Alright, you all know the rules." Shina called. "No killing, slight maiming is allowed as long as no one loses too much blood. There's no backstabbing penalty." Shina turned to look at Kai and James who were obviously roaring to go already. "Boys, no cheap shots and girls, same to you. Of course, that only applies if your opponents stick to that rule as well."
"But I can use my weapons?" Kira called. Shina shrugged.
"Sure. First one to get the bear out of the arena wins the pot."
"Which is?" James asked.
"About 69,000 yen." Shina stated with a shrug. "Not that much."
"What?" Twice called in outrage. Shina turned around to face him. "That's a lot of money! Are you serious? Can I join in this?"
"Me too please!" Toga called. Shina looked at the other kids.
"I don't mind it, kids?"
"Sure, could use the challenge." Kana called back.
"I'm game." Kai answered. James didn't answer but he nodded.
"Could be fun." Yuto called. Yoshi was still in his depressive funk so Shina took the majority vote.
"Jump in." With that Shina also jumped out of the arena to land beside Dabi. "Guess we get to see something else fun here." Shina stated.
"Thought this was training." Dabi stated. Shina nodded.
"It is. The fundamentals of training, at least to me, usually require on the job training. You can only fight air for so long before you have to go up against someone else who poses a challenge. Best to just jump in and swim or drown."
"We're ready!" Kira yelled.
"GO!" Shina called.
~James POV~
"You guys have your bags all packed?" Shina asked as she helped grab their duffel bags to take downstairs to the car. Claude was going to drop them off as Shina was going to stay at the house, Shigaraki had called a meeting with her to talk about what they were going to do next. Thankfully he had only had to suffer the villains for one night before he was now going to head out.
"Yeah I got everything and whatever I left behind, Kana can grab since she's going to be using her Quirk to bring her stuff through later." James stated. His cousin sister was adamant that the dorm rooms were going to suck in terms of décor and planned on changing her room as much as possible. He didn't really care so long as the rooms were big enough for him to keep his things in it.
"Alright." Shina sang as she held up his shower bag with a sly smile. James bristled as he grabbed the bag out of her hand and tossed it into the trunk.
"I knew that!" James stated as Shina cackled. She went to go check on Yuto while James grumbled under his breath.
"Dude," Kai came up beside him. James turned and leaned against the trunk, staring straight forward. "Do me a favor and watch your back. Being around heroes usually means you go soft. Can't have my boy not willing to cause some chaos occasionally."
"The only thing soft about me is my fur." James said dryly. "You should know, you've felt my claws." James indicated the claw marks on Kai's biceps from the training yesterday. They'd managed to beat the girls but of course, Kai had gone rogue leaving James to fight Yuto and Yoshi. James had gotten a bit slashy with his claws.
"Uh huh, I heard the girls talking about someone called Mina?" James felt his tail twitch in annoyance at Kana gossiping with Kira about his life details. "Wanna tell me about that?"
"What are we teenage girls? No." James stated firmly, walking away from the car as two maids came out with Kana and Yuto's duffel bags. Kai followed him closely.
"Why not?" Kai asked. "I may not know the silly emotions of 'love', but I've seen farces of it enough to tell if it's real or not." James gave him a look. "Angelique's Quirk doesn't work on me. Thank God."
"Yeah I'm gonna cut this conversation off you gossiping teenager. Go talk to Kana about her love life. Or better yet, Shina, I hear she's been texting a bird hero lately." Not that Shina would ever say anything about that. Every time Yuto or Kana had tried to ask her about it, Shina had redirected them to attacking James or Kana. James was starting to have some suspicions about that. He needed to investigate soon. Kai's scoff brought him back to the unfortunate reality.
"They're not my boy. They could suffer a heartache for all I care." James raised his eyebrows at Kai who just stared at him for a few seconds before he sighed and rolled his eyes. "Okay I don't actually wish for their heartache. Kana told Kira how Shina was after the whole engagement escape went down." James nodded, thinking back. It had taken Shina a few months to get back to her usual joking and sarcastic manner after that engagement had ended.
"That's beside the point Kai. Why do you care?" Kai shrugged. James kept glaring at him until Kai smirked and winked.
"I heard there was a 'Momo'." James yowled.
"KANA! QUIT TELLING EVERYONE ABOUT MINA AND MOMO!" He shouted over at her where she was talking with Kira and Shina. All three females snapped their heads up to him. "STAY OUT OF MY BUSINESS!"
"So, they're 'business' now eh?" Kira asked as a sly smile spread over her face. Shina sighed.
"My babies are growing so fast." Kana burst out laughing. James growled.
"Don't mind them." Kai stated, grabbing his arm, and pulling him to the car door. Kai shoved James into the backseat. "We'll talk about this later. For now, go undercover. I'll take your place as 'Eclipse' for now."
"Grr," James glared at Kai. "Do me a favor and kill Kana. I'll pay you." Kai rolled his eyes.
"No."
"One million dollars!" Kai hesitated and seemed to think about it before he jerked.
"Nah. I'm not gonna die by Kira's hand bro. Have fun!"
"TRAITOR!" James screeched as Shina shoved his head into the car and locked the door on him. James started to growl loudly as he slumped in the car seat, muttering death threats under his breath.
James had fallen silent over the next fifteen minutes as everyone finished loading up and Claude got in the driver's seat. James had blatantly refused to look at Kana when she'd gotten in the car to make fun of him. Yuto didn't even bother with him which had James relaxing some.
The ride to UA had been silent the whole way there. Yuto hadn't bothered to try and talk to his cousins as he was listening to his own music and Kana was texting Kira. Probably telling her more lies about him being a two-timer.
When the car came to a stop in front of UA, there were other people here as well, going in with their own bags. James got out of the car and saw a line at what looked like trolley's set up with their class numbers inside the gates. Everyone was dumping their bags in the carts and walking away to the sign in desk at the front of the main building. Probably to get directions on where to go.
"James? Move." Yuto ordered. James blinked but moved out of the door as the trunk opened. Claude was already there and handing them their bags.
"Thanks Claude." James stated.
"Of course sir." Claude nodded. "If there is anything you need, text me and I shall give it to Kana later." James nodded as he shouldered his bag. James glanced around but didn't see anyone in his class, so he started forward to the trolley to dump his bag. The table beside the trolley had some stickers that had blanks on the name. James wrote down his name as well as Yuto and Kana's name. He slapped the sticker on his bag and tied them together with the strap before he tossed his bag into the trolley. There were other bags already in the cart so he figured half of his class was already here.
"What do we do?" Yuto asked coming up beside James.
"Put your name on your bag and dump your bag here." James said handing him his sticker. "They're probably going to check the bags to make sure we didn't sneak anything into the campus."
"That would be smart of them." Kana commented taking the sticker from James and slapping it on her bag. James glanced around before he went to the sign in desk.
"Name, Course and Class teacher?" The teacher at the desk asked.
"Nara, James also Nara, Yuto and Kana. Hero Course 1A. Aizawa, Shota." The teacher leafed through his papers before he found what he was looking for. He checked off his name before stating,
"Hero Course dorm is on the east side, first building on the right." James nodded. He indicated his cousins follow him as he knew where to go. The new layout was wider and easier to navigate if one simply paid attention.
"See anyone else yet?" Kana asked.
"I thought I saw Denki." Yuto stated as they walked. "Not sure though."
"I see Tsu and Ochako." James reported. Both girls were walking ahead of them towards the end of the walkway chattering to each other. "How come you never hang with the girls Kana?"
"They don't like me." Kana stated as if it were obvious. "Guess I hang around with you guys more than necessary."
"How come?" Yuto asked. "They seem okay to me. Jiro seems cool. Ochako and Tsu are nice. Momo's smart and gentle. Mina's a happy little bunny, no offense James."
"None taken Yu. Besides, you're not an accurate judge of character. You get along with everyone somehow." James stated. Yuto had somehow managed to get along with their class and half of the Villains in the one day they'd been around them. "Well Kana?"
"I don't know." Kana stated, irritated. "It's not like I mind it though. I'd rather hang around you guys or Denki. Or Kirishima. Or Sero. Even Bakugou is more interesting. They don't giggle every few seconds asking dumb questions about who I like or who I don't like."
"Have they asked you that?" James asked turning his head.
"No." Kana relented as she put her arms behind her back as she walked. "It's not like I care though. I'm happy with who my friends are. Plus, I have Kira now." She smiled. "My girl time is satisfied."
"You don't count Shina as a girl?" Yuto gasped. "I'm telling on you."
"You hush it, or I'll tell Kai where you hid his baby." James snorted. Kai had been looking for his sword since last night. James had told him to ask Kana but no, he'd believed her when she said she hadn't seen it.
"Hey James!" James looked over, seeing Denki waving at him with Kirishima and Bakugou beside him. James didn't do anything except stop. "Hey Yuto! Kana!" Denki ran over to her and knelt in front of her. James raised his eyebrows in surprise as Kana blinked down at the energetic blond. "Are you okay? We didn't get to talk after everything went down. Are you okay to be back at school?"
"I'm fine." Kana stated slowly looking at everyone, uncertainly. "Are you okay?"
"Pikachu was worried about you more than Shark teeth." Bakugou stated as he came to a halt by James. Bakugou pointed at Kirishima who looked like he was blushing slightly. James rolled his eyes.
"I told you she'd be fine. Knew Bakugou would be fine as well." James met Bakugou's gaze. "Your red-haired dragon was the one saying you were a damsel in distress."
"Hey!" James glanced over at Kirishima.
"You were." He stated. "You can't deny it."
"He called a class meeting and tried to get everyone to march on the villains." Yuto stated. "Tore the class in two. Turns out, only the idiotic and suicidal ones went to get you two."
"Thank you Kiri for coming but please," Kana begged. "Don't ever do something dumb like that again. I can promise if I ever get kidnapped again, I'll figure a way out of it."
"Tch, what makes you think anyone would want to kidnap you?" Bakugou asked.
"I would have said the same thing about you before this." Kana retaliated.
"Whatever." Bakugou turned to leave. James shrugged as he followed Bakugou. "Your sister is dumb."
"I know." James stated mournfully. "It's a fate I was unable to escape. I've done all I could to make sure Yuto has better chances than I do. Is that Midoriya?" James noted the green haired boy talking with Uraraka in front of the dorm.
"Tch, dumbass." Bakugou muttered once before his attention was grabbed by the dorm. "Wow, wasn't expecting it to look so… fraternity-like."
"James!" Mina called as she skipped over to him. "You came!"
"Yeah. Aizawa managed to convince our guardian to allow us to come in. Not sure how." Lie. "But he apparently made a very convincing case."
"What about-" Mina gasped. "Kana!" Mina ran over to Kana who was talking with Kirishima and Denki. Kana stopped talking as Mina threw her arms around her. James snickered as he saw the alarm on Kana's face.
"Never seen peekaboo look scared before." Bakugou snorted. "Not even when we were tied down."
"Kana's afraid of loud emotions." James stated. "Especially the happy, peppy kind that Mina exudes on a daily basis." James wondered at that. "Maybe that's why none of the girls like her?" He muttered to himself. He shook that out of his mind as he watched Kana talk with Mina.
"James?" Momo called. James waved at her as she came up to him. "I wasn't expecting to see you here."
"Do we give off some kind of vibe that says, 'we aren't coming back'?" James asked glaring at Bakugou who scoffed at him.
~Kana's POV~
"Kira! Help me push my bed through the portal." Kana grunted as she tried to shove her entire bed through the portal into her dorm room. Kira had been helping her move into the dorm room but now she was sitting on Kana's computer chair sucking on a lollipop, watching Kana struggle.
"You can do it!" Kira cheered her on.
"Kira!" Kana yelped as she slipped and fell on her butt. "Ow!" Kana got up, rubbing her backside. Her bed was officially half in her dorm room and half in her room at the Ugly House.
"Why are you moving the whole bed frame in?" Kira asked. "You had a pretty good one here."
"I don't trust it." Kana stated. "I trust my own bed better." Kana braced herself before she started to push the bed again. "Plus, my bed is comfort… able~" Kana groaned as she shoved against the reluctant bed that for all intents and purposes, seemed like it was refusing to enter the dorm room. She was almost done here as well. She'd already got her monitor set up as well as the lights and the bed's mosquito netting. Once the bed was in all Kana had to do was lay the rug down and put in the floating chair.
"Fine, push!" Kira ordered. Kana gasped out in happiness as that was all she had left in her as she continued to push. Kira grunted as she pulled. It took them a few more minutes before they finally got the bed into position against the wall, beside the balcony. "Ugh! You chose the worse bed in history to lug in here."
"It would have been done quicker if you'd just opened the portal under the bed and then just gently plopped it in place." Shina's voice came. Kana and Kira glared at Shina who was lounging on the floor in Kana's room. Kai and Kaito were also in the room looking around at Kana's sparse room.
"Don't tell me that." Kana growled. She should have known to do that but right now, with how exhausted she was, she didn't want to hear that there had been an easier way to do this. Shina chuckled as she used her foot to nudge two large stuffed plastic bags by her foot.
"I got you a new comforter. This one is for James, I know he usually likes the thin blankets but he can sleep on this one. It'll add some cushion to his bed." Kana nodded as she eyed the dark purple comforter. James would appreciate the black one better. Plus the purple would go with her overall aesthetic in her bedroom.
"Just throw them here." She ordered. Shina tossed both comforters through the portal at Kana. "How was the meeting?"
"Eh." Shina shrugged. "Shigaraki seems to be a bit lost on his next moves so far. Seems like we're going to work on recruitment for now. Shigaraki basically told me I have the final vote on whoever they find since Yoshi and I can basically find any info on whoever they find. Considering my experience in recruiting the original League members, apparently I have good instincts."
"He also told her that they need to work on their own training." Kai stated with a laugh. "Apparently they don't work as well as Shigaraki would like."
"Yeah there is that as well." Shina sighed. "Considering I can get 6 teens to work together I think I have some talent in that area." Kana nodded as that made sense to her. She could barely handle Kaito the one night she'd been with Kira watching over him. He was an easy baby during the day but at night? He did not want to go down. Apparently he'd become addicted to the tablet Kira had stolen for him and well, every time it died, he had a meltdown. Shina had had to get involved as Kira and Kana did not know what they were doing. Kira had Yoshi when they were coming here so if the tablet died, Yoshi was able to form a holographic tablet in front of Kaito keeping him placated. He'd abandoned them to Kaito's tantrum last night as payback for kicking him where the sun doesn't shine during training. Shina had managed to withstand Kaito's tantrum and got him calmed down and asleep not even ten minutes later.
"Hey are we going to be getting any more members to the Nara clan?" Kana asked out of the blue. Shina frowned in confusion so Kana elaborated. "Well I know we weren't expecting Kira, Kai, Yoshi and Kaito- not that having you guys here isn't fun," Kana assured Kira who smiled at her. "But should we be expecting anyone new? Des and Mara aren't going to pop in are they?"
"You know they have their own operation they have to tend to." Shina sighed as she leaned her head back. "But besides them? I don't think so. We don't have that many close friends. I mean I know we know some people but they aren't family like these guys are." Shina lazily used her head to indicate Kai and Kira.
"Yeah but would it be better to make a potential list?" Kira asked. Kana nodded. Shina blew out a huff.
"We have Danny in England?" Kana reminded her. Shina snorted.
"No. He's MI6 and that's where he's staying."
"What about that one guy from America, Brandon?" Kana asked.
"He's FBI." Shina stated. "And no we can't expect Melody, she's a hero. That would be like asking if Eros was going to join us." Kana shuddered.
"Please god no!"
"Who the frick is Eros?" Kai asked. Kana grabbed her pillow and shoved her face into it, muffling her scream. She could hear Kira laughing at her misery as Shina explained.
"Greek hero with powers for love. He got a bit obsessed with Kana when we were there. Always sends her flowers no matter where we are."
"How does he know where you guys are?" Kira asked in concern. Probably at the lack of security there.
"Beats me." Kana pulled her head out of her pillow.
"Can we move on please? I was doing very well not remembering that, that…."
"Adonis?" Shina asked. Kana gave her a weirded out look that Shina merely winked at. "What? Just because I'm immune to his Quirk doesn't mean I don't have eyes."
"I am not nearly ready to have this discussion." Kana stated flatly as she closed her portal on Shina and Kai. Kana sighed as she looked at Kira. "Do me a favor and please just don't ask."
"I won't but you are gonna have to get me caught up on what I've apparently missed out on." Kira stated as she stood up and stretched.
"Yeah sure I will." Kana promised. Way later. "Go cause mischief." Kana opened a portal under Kira allowing her to fall through and to the living room couch at the Ugly House. Kana glanced around her room at the unfinished product and sighed. She should have kept Kira longer so she could help Kana put things away.
It took Kana all day to finally put the finishing touches on her dorm room. When she was done she figured she may as well go downstairs to the common room to see how everyone else was doing. When Kana exited her bedroom room she glanced down the hall to the elevator at the end of the long hallway. She was the only girl on this floor, so this entire wing was pretty much hers. She walked down the empty hall taking her time. This was a good thing for her privacy. She got to do whatever she wanted. It also meant if she heard anything at night she had no one to cling to. With that thought Kana sped up her walking.
'Guess I should invest in some traps if I'm the only one here.' Kana thought as she got on the elevator. When Kana got to the first floor she saw the boys lounging around. She briefly wondered where the girls were but dismissed it a second later as someone called her.
"Hey Kana, are you done with your room?" Midoriya asked Kana as she approached.
"Yeah. Was a lot of heavy lifting." Kana sighed.
"You should have said, I could have helped you." Shoji said. "I finished my room first." Kana blinked at his offer before she gave a smile.
"I wish I'd have known Shoji. But it's okay, I was able to get everything in."
"You okay being the only girl on the 2nd floor?" James asked from where he was lounging on the floor.
"If not I'm sure I can portal out." Kana deadpanned knowing James was hinting at her love of scary movies. They were so good, but then came the existential crisis late at night and her wild imagination got a bit too out of hand.
"Hey since we're gonna be living together I think we should all know a bit more about each other. And I've been meaning to ask," Denki piped up from where he sat on the couch armrest. "How are you three related?" He indicated Kana and her cousins. "You guys have different quirks, but you all say your cousins."
"Denki dude, that's not something you just ask." Kirishima sweat dropped.
"Mystery is good for the soul." Tokoyami murmured. Kana surprisingly enough agreed with that phrase. Still she shrugged.
"Our fathers were brothers. Our guardian Shina's mother was their older sister. As for the quirks," Kana shrugged. "Luck of the draw I guess? I know my portal Quirk mainly comes from my mother's side though. The cat and shadow Quirks are our grandmother and grandfather."
"My mother was Quirkless." Yuto said. "My father passed his shadows onto me." Everyone looked at James who sighed.
"My mom had a Creation Quirk and my dad had a Destruction Quirk. Guess I'm the product."
"Does your cousin have a Quirk?" Midoriya asked. He had his handy dandy notebook out and was writing everything down. Kana shared a look with James who shrugged. It was up to her to decide to give this info out.
"Yeah but she's not a hero." Kana stated. "It's light or solar manipulation, I forget which. Considering her mom's quirk, we're pretty sure she gets it from her father, but we can't prove it."
"You said you were taken in by your cousin. Isn't your cousin only a few years older than you though?" Denki asked. "I saw her at the Sports Festival, she didn't look that old." James snorted.
"Shina's old, let's leave it at that." Kana raised an eyebrow at James.
"I'm gonna tell her you called her old."
"I'm not scared of her." James stated. Kana knew that was a lie, as did pretty much everyone else as James ears pressed flat against his head and his tail twitched in agitation.
"You guys speak good Japanese though. I thought you were American." Sato said. Kana nodded.
"We are." Yuto said. "We moved to Japan initially when we were around what, 10? Kana was 11 and Shina was… 16? I think. We knew some Japanese since our grandfather was Japanese and he taught our parents who taught us. Being here just helped us learn faster since most kids around us didn't know much English."
"What school did you guys go to before UA?" Kirishima asked.
"We didn't." Kana answered. "We were home schooled after Shina's mom died. This is our first year back in a schooling environment."
"If this is a get to know you kinda thing, I wanna know." James flipped so he was crouching and staring directly at Midoriya. "What's up with your writing everything in those notebooks of yours? What's in them?"
"I have noticed this habit as well." Tokoyami stated. "Though since it has not affected me, I have not deigned to ask. Now that the question has been asked, I would like to know as well."
"It's just his stupid ramblings." Bakugou growled. "He's always done it."
"The rambling is a habit I've noticed." Kana commented, seeing Midoriya's face redden. "Though I forgot you two knew each other before UA." Kana glanced at Bakugou who looked away. Midoriya tensed like he was uncomfortable.
"Tch." Kana suspected they weren't going to be able to get an answer out of Bakugou. Which was fine as Kana figured she would try and solve this puzzle the old-fashioned way. She wasn't really interested in the knowledge, more like the gossip. Some part of her was against snooping as she wanted to maintain Bakugou's respect, but she figured if the roles were reversed he wouldn't bother with respect.
"You guys all finished with your rooms?" Mina asked as she and the rest of the girls came down.
"Yeah we're just relaxing now." Denki said. "Getting to know one another."
"Cool. So," Mina gave a sly smile to Uraraka. "We've been talking, and we've got an idea. How about we take a peek into each other's rooms?"
"Pass." Bakugou and James called simultaneously.
"I don't think you want to see my room." Kana stated thinking of her room. By all rights her room was clean, it was just, her room was a reflection of her and that wasn't something a lot of people should see.
"We can start with the boys first." Mina chirped as she latched onto Kana's arm. "Come on Kana! It'll be fun." With that Mina practically dragged Kana to the elevator.
"Isn't this a breach of privacy?" Kana asked as they arrived on the boy's floor.
"Midoriya's room first!" Mina cackled as she grabbed Uraraka with her other hand.
"WAHHHH! NO NO NO HOLD ON!" Midoriya yelled as his room door swung open. Kana froze as her brain shut down to process what she was seeing. The entire room screamed, 'ALL MIGHT'. There were All Might figurines on practically every surface of wood while posters of All Might hung on the walls. There was even a large All Might rug on the floor. Midoriya slumped in front of his desk. "I look up to him… kinda embarrassing."
"I knew you were a fan Midoriya, I didn't think it was this hardcore." Kirishima stated.
"All Might all around. It's a fanboy's room." Uraraka uttered. Kana noticed how she didn't dare go further into the room.
"I'm a little disappointed his bed isn't All Might themed." Kana murmured. Mina nodded beside her.
"Uh-oh, what have we gotten ourselves into?" Denki grunted from out in the hallway.
"Could be fun though." Sero gulped. The next room was Tokoyami's room. Kana snorted, this was in no way fun. She didn't leave though as they all migrated to the next room. Which belonged to their resident emo bird who stood in front of his door protectively.
"Hmph, ridiculous." Mina and Hagakure stepped up to the challenge and got to work shoving him away from his door. Tokoyami put up a good fight in Kana's opinion, the sight was enough to make her giggle as Tokoyami struggled.
"You don't want to help him?" Kana asked Yuto who watched in amusement.
"Nah, against Mina? No one is more determined." The two girls eventually succeeded, and the door opened to reveal a dark room. Kana was impressed and resisted the urge to whistle. Tokoyami's bed had a black fuzzy comforter with black curtains, a black rug and black covers on Tokoyami's dresser. It was half emo and half sorcerer.
"Tokoyami!" Kana breathed. "I love your room!"
"It is a change from fanboy Midoriya's room."
"It's so dark and scary."
"Damn you all…" Tokoyami mourned.
"I remember buying key chains like this in middle school." Kirishima commented about a dark metal cross he picked up.
"So boys like things like this huh?" Mina murmured.
"So cool." Midoriya cooed looking around.
"BEGONE!" Tokoyami growled. Yuto sighed as he entered the room.
"Alright everyone out of my emo besties room or I'll send you to the Shadow Realm."
"Oh come on!" Everyone whined. Yuto shooed everyone out. Those who lingered Yuto grabbed them in his shadows and dumped them from the ceiling.
"Thank you Yuto." Kana heard Tokoyami murmur.
"No problem. I have a suspicion that they're going for my room next though." Kana snorted.
"They did." She pointed to where Mina and the others had already opened the door. Yuto groaned as he vanished into the shadows. Kana and Tokoyami joined to see everyone looking around the room in awe.
"It looks normal." Yuto's room had purple lights in the ceiling corners, illuminating the room in soft purple light. He had a black TV mounted on the wall across from his bed. A dark wooden dresser and his desk were under the TV monitor. A simple black rug was nestled under his desk while a small table sat directly in the middle of his room. Yuto's bed was simple in a white comforter and black wooden frame. His curtains were a dark color with what looked like white hexagons on them. There were even hexagon mirrors on Yutos walls along with a simple corkboard with his school schedule and some pictures of him and the rest of the Nara family. There were some posters of the games he liked as well.
"It's like 'Emo Light!" Denki states making Kana snort.
"You mean Diet Emo?" Kana and Denki started to giggle to themselves at their stupidity.
"Dude, your room's awesome!" Kirishima called.
"It's cute." Mina cooed. "Like a nightclub."
"Thanks." Yuto commented. "Now get out." Everyone oohed and ahhed a bit more before they wandered out.
"Who else is on this floor?" Uraraka asked.
"Come near my door and I'll murder you." James growled as he stood in front of his door. His fangs flashes as his ears pressed flat against his head and a slight hiss was in his voice. Everyone besides Mina backed up.
"Come on James, please can we look?"
"No." James stated.
"Um, maybe we should come back?" Momo offered. Mina didn't budge or back down from James glare. Kana mentally started to count down. Everyone waited with bated breath. Just as Kana mentally reached one James sighed and stepped aside.
"Oh my god that was tense." Sero muttered. Everyone peeked around Mina, careful to not get too close as James was still glaring at everyone else. James room was typical. His black comforter was covering his bed and on top of the bed was a black cat plush at the foot of the bed. He had a tablet on his bed by the cat plush that was lit up with random colors swirling around. There was a floating shelf above his bed that held manga and smaller less valuable anime statues (Kana doubted he would bring his more valued statues here of all places). Any pictures on his walls were minimal, mainly containing landscapes that they had travelled to. There were pink and blue fairy lights on his walls giving the room dim lighting. A calendar and clock were above his headboard with little notes that Kana couldn't see from where she stood. Books were piled on top of his desk while a lamp shone soft warm light on their covers. To the left of the books was a black keyboard that sat under dual monitors. Everything was wrapped together with a black and blue rug.
"Dude, this is your room?" Sero asked.
"What about it?" James asked, daring anyone to make fun of his room.
"It looks bare." Hagakure stated.
"Sorry my tastes aren't the same as you peasants." James pulled Mina back and closed his door. "Now move along."
"Time for the third floor." Uraraka stuttered as everyone left the second floor. Kana was just happy they weren't going to hit up her side yet. They saw Iida's room next which was piled from floor to ceiling with books. Kana was amazed that someone here at UA would bother to bring so many books.
"I feel like I'm in a library." Kana whispered, not wanting to disturb the books. "A government library that has nothing but nonfiction in it."
"Nothing out of the ordinary here." Iida stated.
"That's our president for you."
"He's obsessed with glasses." Uraraka sputtered.
"I mean given how hard we train, that's to be expected." Yuto stated.
"Exactly." Iida stated coming up behind them. "I plan to go through many pairs during our extensive training." Kana nodded dumbly as she exited.
"Kaminari next!" Denki ran to his room and opened his door with a flourish.
"Do you like it?" He proudly displayed.
"There's so much stuff." Kana stated. Her eyes tried to gather everything in one look but she kept being pulled into another area just when she got one part down.
"I like your games." James stated as he looked at Kaminari's exposed game cases.
"We can play sometime." Denki stated. "I saw your gaming console too. I think you'd give me a good fight."
"Kaminari's room is like a theme park." Kana shook her head and walked out. Everything Denki had was a bit too much to take in all at once.
Koda's room was next and compared to everyone elses room, it was the simplest.
"Bunny!" Yuto chirped. Kana grabbed James before he lunged at the bunny.
"Nope, you leave that poor thing alone." She yanked James out of Koda's room by his tail.
"It's a rabbit!" James groaned.
"It's inside!" Kana hissed. "Therefore it's innocent." Kana held onto James as he raged while everyone finished in Koda's room.
"You two in to win?" Denki asked when he saw them. James went limp so Kana dropped him.
"Win what?" Kana asked.
"We're competing to see who has the best room." Yuto answered.
"Uh, why?" James asked. "It's just a room."
"Have you no pride man?" Sero asked. "We have to see who the best decorator is."
"4th floor!" Mina yelled, pumping her fists into the air. Kana followed behind everyone else. She yawned. She was getting tired of seeing everyone's rooms. Kana merely poked her head into Kirishima's room.
"Jesus." Kana breathed seeing all the fire and the workout equipment. "You know we have a gym right Kiri?"
"Yeah but, it's manly." Kirishima said. Kana shrugged. He was right, she supposed. Out of everyone else in the class, Kana trusted Kirishima to be the one to help get her into shape if needed. He seemed like the good guy to cheer you on no matter how small the milestone.
Another yawn hit Kana.
"You getting' tired too Kana?" Sero asked as they moved onto the next room Kana nodded.
"I had to shove my bed into my room earlier." Kana honestly didn't remember much about the next couple of rooms. She knew they saw Shoji's room which Kana remembered was the barest room of all. From there they saw Sero's room which Kana thought reminded her of her home back in America. It was all brown and patterns that Kana honestly wouldn't mind seeing again when she was more alert. The next room was Todoroki's room which Kana had to pause at as it was very, JAPANESE!
"You scare me Todoroki." Kana whimpered as she saw his floor was even different than the usual ones she'd seen before. "How did you manage to change this entire layout?"
"My home is traditionally Japanese." Todoroki stated.
"If I'd known we could have changed the rooms this much I would have added more things to my room." James said. "I could have gone for a different paneling. Scratching post corners."
"You cat." Kana muttered. They moved onto the next room which was Sato's room.
"My room's kind of boring. Not as interesting as everyone elses." Sato stated.
"Every room after Todoroki's is the same." Kana honestly doubted that if and when they saw her room. But the smell in Sato's room had her sniffing the air.
"What is that smell?" Kana asked.
"Oh!" Sato's frantic jump had Kana tensing just in case. Her spike of adrenaline faded as she saw he was opening… an oven. "I forgot I was baking a chiffon cake. I wanted to share it with everyone." Sato pulled out the cake. "It really would be better with frosting, but do you want some?"
"Yes!" The girls, minus Kana, jumped at the cake.
"You don't want any Kana?" Todoroki asked as she stayed back.
"I don't really like sweets. I like bitter and hot things better." He nodded in understanding. Kana merely watched as everyone enjoyed the sweets as she gazed around Sato's room, or what should be called a kitchen.
"So tasty!" Uraraka stated happily.
"It's so light and fluffy."
"You have a charming hobby Sato." Momo stated. "We really should combine your sweets with my tea."
"Well guess next up is the girls rooms." Kana sighed.
"We should head down to the girls lobby." Kana followed behind everyone as she yawned again.
"First up for the girls, is Kana!" Kana sighed as they came to the second floor.
"My room is at the end." She yawned again. Everyone followed behind Kana as she lead them down the hall.
"I forgot you're the only girl on this floor." Momo stated.
"Aren't you scared?" Hagakure asked.
"I can use my portals to jump to someone else's room if I need to." Kana answered. Her fears from earlier seemed small now compared to how tired she was. She just wanted this show and tell to be over. Kana opened her door allowing everyone to see her room.
"Oh wow." Kana took in everyone's stunned expression and looked into her room to make sure it wasn't a mess.
"Dude!" Denki cried.
Kana's room was the same layout as everyone else's, except she'd made good use of her space. In the corner closest to the door was a swinging chair with black cushions and a plush shark sitting in it. Her bed was covered by black sheer mosquito netting that was open enough to allow her to crawl into her plush bed covered with the purple comforter and more plush sharks that Shina had tossed at her earlier. Her floor was covered in a purple plush rug with her desk opposite her bed. Her dual monitors showed an anime background with purple backlights and a pink keyboard with white keys. Her dresser was beside the desk that held her computer. Above her desk and dresser was a mirror with pictures on both sides of her family and friends. Her balcony doors were wide open allowing a breeze to blow through her room and rustle her black and pink curtains. There was another rug on the balcony that also held a small metal step stool that held green plants and flowers. A black lawn chair was on her balcony for her to sit in and enjoy the view.
"Is that a vending machine?" Kana glanced at the area between her bathroom and her dresser and blushed, scratching her head.
"Yeah. It only has dark chocolate and hot chips and it's programmed to only allow me a certain amount a day." This was a gift from Shina and Yoshi. Yoshi of course had been the one to program the dang machine at Shina's request.
"Aw man, I need to redo my room." James sighed. Kana smiled.
"Not that this hasn't been fun." Kana once again yawned. "But if you don't mind, I'm going to bed now. Let me know who won this contest thing in the morning."
"Oh right." Kana waved goodnight to her friends and classmates as she closed the door behind them. She debated on showering but considering how tired she was Kana merely changed her clothes, closed her balcony doors and flopped onto her bed. She was out a second later.
