Chapter 10 – A Shattered Friendship

Ayano's POV

So, now here we were…in the Student Council room…staring face-to-face with Kagami while being nervous as all hell. Mainly because she was still pissed off from the last chapter after we ran into her in the hallway on the way to class.

And we both knew why she was pissed.

Damn…I didn't think this would bite us in the ass so soon…

"So…I finally got Konata to spill it as to what was bothering her. And BOY, did I get an interesting response."

"L-Look, Kagami. I know this looks bad, but…" I tried to explain.

"LOOKS bad?! You told her straight to her face that you guys hated her! This is all sorts of bad!"

"W-Well, to be fair…she did say to be honest."

"And you LISTENED to her?!"

"I don't see what to big deal is, Kagami." Misao said. "She wanted to know how we felt about her. So, we told her. Well…Ayano did. I was out of town." She then gave me a quick wink with her left eye. Which, in all honesty, annoyed the hell out of me.

Not the time, dumbass!

"Okay, I don't know what that wink was supposed to mean…" Kagami gained a sweatdrop. "…but you don't just tell someone you hate them right in their face. That's such an asshole thing to do."

"Well, can't Chibikko be an exception? She isn't all that likeable, anyway. Don't know how the hell you're friends with such a thing…"

"M-Misao!" I nudged her in the arm.

"Wh-Wha…What the hell's with you, Misao?! You've been treating Konata like crap lately and it's been pissing me off!"

It was then that Misao gained such an angry look that it honestly scared me. Never in my life have I seen her THIS angry. Not even after I used Tatsuji as a fake boyfriend at the festival last year.

I forgot to tell her, okay?!

"Pissing YOU off?! How oblivious can you be?! You've been pissing us off since the beginning of high school!"

"Wh-What are you talking about?!"

"As if you don't know! Basically ditching us for that blue-haired midget! She's all you ever talk about nowadays! Not giving a damn about the two friends you've had since middle school!"

"Wh-What?! That's crazy! I-I don't ONLY talk about Konata!"

"Yeah. You do." I said. "It gets pretty annoying hearing nothing but "Konata this" and "Konata that" for the whole day. Hell, even Kirin finds it annoying. And she rarely gets pissed off."

"So, you're taking Misao's side on this, Ayano?!"

"Izumi-san's an annoying perverted little nutcase who doesn't stay out of other people's business. Of course, I'm taking Misao's side."

"Geez…is this really about the light novel Kyoko wrote based on you guys? You know it's not canon, right?"

"W-Wait…what?! You know about the light novel being based on us?!"

"Well, yeah. Konata and I came up with the idea together."

"A…ARE YOU FREAKING SERIOUS?!" We both yelled with so much anger that it could possibly be heard from all over the school.

"So, it is about that…"

"No! It's not!" I yelled. "But we're still pissed that you even did that!"

"What gave you any right to do such a thing?!" Misao yelled.

"I don't really see what the problem is. Konata said that she wanted to help Kyoko with her new book. And when she asked me what a "blooming couple" should look like, I referenced you two. Makes sense, doesn't it?"

"NO, IT DOESN'T!" We both screamed.

"*sigh* Geez…can't you guys be happy about it? I mean…you both have been looking pretty lonely recently. Misao especially."

"Why do you think we feel that way?!" Misao yelled. "God! With you being THIS oblivious to how people other than Chibikko feel…it's no wonder why Tsukasa moved!"

"Wh-What…?"

"M-Misao!" I yelled at her in a huge panic.

"What? You know it's true, right?"

"It may be true but you didn't have to say it! That's what got us in this mess!"

"But that was your fault…" Misao gained a sweatdrop.

She's right. But still…

"Hey. Misao."

We both looked at Kagami as she held her head down low. Her hands were twitching and closed up in a fist.

And we both knew that whenever she's like that, she is PISSED.

"Run that last part again. What the hell did you just say?"

"What? That you're oblivious to everyone's feelings but Chibikko's and it's no wonder why Tsukasa left? I though that was clear enough for you to understand."

"Why'd you had to say it like that?" I mumbled.

"Heh. Thought so. Now…let me give you a response to such a statement!" That was when both of us were taken by surprise when Kagami came charging at Misao with a fist in the air ready to deliver a punch straight to the face.

We both managed to dodge at the last second. But that didn't stop Kagami from repeatedly charging at Misao with the sole intent of landing a punch on her.

Which gave me no choice but…

"Gah! What the hell, Kagami?! Are you THAT butthurt about hearing the truth?!"

"Butthurt?! Oh, no~! I'm SUPER grateful for your input, Misao! Now just stay still while I share my thoughts with you!"

*SWING*

*SWING*

"W-Woah! Th-This is less "sharing thoughts" and more like an attempted assault!"

"And it's gonna feel like aggravated assault once I'm through with your ass, you damn little bit…"

"Shotei-Uke!"

*BLOCK*

"H-Huh?!"

Before Kagami could attempt to deliver another punch, I stepped in between the two girls and blocked the incoming punch with an open right palm. The impact pushed me back a little. And my hand was in serious pain right now. I was honestly scared out of my mind.

But…I had to do it. I had to stop this. Once and for all.

So, then I grabbed Kagami by the ribbon of her shirt with my free hand and…

"Tai Otoshi!"

*SLAM*

…I threw her over my body and slammed her on the nearby table. Shattering it in half and leaving Kagami unable to get up.

Woah…I actually did it! Several months of practice finally paid off! I FINALLY DID IT!

"*painful moan* Ow…what the hell…?" Kagami said as she was struggling to move. That's when I stood over her face and said:

"Listen, Kagami. You may an issue accepting it…but this is how everyone sees you as. An oblivious lovestruck asshole who doesn't give a damn about her friend's feelings…or even her own twin sister's. And I pity you for that."

"Wh-What?!"

"A-Ayano…" Misao said in shock.

"That being said…you can continue to blindly live in this "happy-go-lucky schoolgirl fantasy" that you love so much. But if you EVER come near me or my Misa-chan again…I'll drag you out of that bullshit delusion and send you into reality in a motherfucking body bag! Got it?!"

Kagami didn't answer. Tears ran down her eyes as she tried to give me the finger. But she was in too much pain to even do that.

And besides…that was all the answer I needed, anyway.

"Come on, Misao. We're going."

"Ah! R-Right! W-Wait up, Ayano!" Misao said as she followed me out of the Student Council room. Still mind-blown by what she just saw and heard.

And honestly…I was, too.

W-Were those my…true feelings? Finally being free after all these years?

B-Because I feel A LOT better all of a sudden…

We ended up ditching the rest of the school day. Hiding up on the roof until it was time to go home. And despite me having a Discipline Committee meeting today and Misao having Track practice…we both decided to skip those, too. Many things happened today and we both felt like we needed to talk this out sooner rather than later.

Though, personally…I'd rather neither at all…

"S-So, uh…what happened earlier…" I broke the dead silence between us. "…that was something. R-Right?"

"Y-Yeah…it sure was." Misao said. "Kagami reacting like that…and what you did to stop her…w-what was that, anyway?"

"Oh, um…I started taking Kenpō classes recently. I ran into Ohmuro-san one day and she told me about her grandfather having a dojo in town. She's doing them too."

"W-Wow…you and Sakurako doing Kenpō. That's something I would never expect from you."

"You're not the first person to say that…" I gained a sweatdrop.

"So, um…about Kagami…"

"Right…what we dealt with earlier. It was shocking to see her act like that. Yelling and cursing while throwing wild punches…it was definitely a new side to her."

"Heh…speaking of "new sides"…that's gotta be the first time I've ever heard you curse, Aya-chan. Didn't think you had in in ya~. *giggle*"

"Th-That was…" I gained a slight blush. "…that was all in the heat of the moment! All of those emotions building up inside me… her trying to punch you...along with the fact that she showed little to no remorse about being involved in making that novel based on us...I was so mad that I felt like I...I-I had no choice but to let them all out!"

"A-And…and it felt really good, too."

"Right?! I get how you feel! Finally telling Kagami that we hated her "girlfriend" and how she's too damn oblivious of everyone else's feelings felt like a HUGE emotional relief just left my soul!"

"I just…wish it didn't have to end that way."

"What are you talking about? Isn't this what you wanted?"

"H-Huh?" Misao looked at me with a confused look on her face.

"Don't you remember what you said before? It's just the two of us now. No longer being pushed aside by everyone else…we were going to live our lives like "The Other Two". As corny as it sounds."

Misao continued to stare at me with now a look of shock. Which slowly turned into a small smile as she held me in a tight hug.

"You're right, Ayano. We don't need her. We don't need anyone! We're doing fine on our own!"

"And you're right about that, Misao." I replied. Returning the small smile.

Plus, she did try to assault us. Pretty sure any and all chances of making up have been thrown out of the window now.

"So…now that we got all of that emotional stuff out of our chests, what do you wanna do?" Misao asked. "We got a bunch of free time since we ditched our clubs today."

"Well…how about we…" And as I was about to answer…

*RINGTONE CHIME*

"Oh, boy…Kirin's calling me."

"You think she's mad about you ditching your Discipline Committee meeting today?"

"I highly doubt it. But it could be different today." I then answered the phone. "Hello?"

"Hey, Ayano! Where are you?!"

"H-Hey, Kirin. I know it's bad that skipped the meeting, but things just and I…"

"Never mind that! I just HAVE to tell you this titillating dream I had while dozing off in class today! It was about this anthropomorphic rodent kidnapping my gamer girl girlfriend and doing some serious cockblock-"

I hung up the phone and pinched the top of my nose so hard it actually began to turn red.

"I swear to God…how the hell is she Student Council President?"

"But you gotta admit…she's definitely one of the funnier ones we've had." Misao said. "The stuff she comes up with are top-notch comedy gold."

"Only for a dirty-minder like you…" I retorted with a huge sweatdrop.

Author's Note: Just as their worries predicted, the chat with Kagami ended with the destroyed friendship of Ayano and Misao with her. Now with little to no chance of making up, the duo set their sights on continuing their lives as themselves against the world.

Another long gap between chapters. I felt like updating this story again after the long hiatus. But from here on out, I'm going to try to keep the gaps shorter. This story's not my top priority at the moment. But I promise not to have you guys wait MONTHS for the next chapter.

Thanks for reading. Later.
