Chapter 5

Chloe's Pov

Early morning, hot weather as usual as I felt the sun's heat softly burning on my skin, the pale blue sky was held above our heads and the cool wind blew through my blonde hair. Billions of people were walking down through the crowded streets. I could taste the sweet, salty air from the sea mixing in with the fresh air around me.

The first thing I did after I had breakfast and dropped Trixie off at her school, I travelled down to the precinct and see if Lucifer was there. I could picture Lucifer sitting by my desk, waiting for me to come in and we could get started on a new case. The usual stuff. But there was no one there by my desk. My puzzled eyebrows raised as I scanned around checking if Lucifer was anywhere else. I stared through the glass windows of the lab, but I still could see him there.

Then, I wondered to myself, "He must be still at the penthouse?"

Last night

"I'm still can't believe you're here" I whispered in half belief, thinking I was daydreaming.

Lucifer and I walked out from Meg's house which was infested with police officers as I called in about Rob and his men who were trying to kill us earlier. I instructed the officers to take Meg somewhere safe since we might have to refurbish her kitchen after it has been shot with many bullets.

"Believe it or not. I won't leave your side again" Lucifer chuckled.

There was a short silence between us but I spend the time gazing up into his dreamy eyes want to double-check if this is real. That Lucifer was actually here with me, but I knew this was no dream I could feel the warmth through his touch when he held my hand.

Lucifer broke the silence, "I think perhaps I should go back to the penthouse. To fresh up a bit I mean."

"Yeah. That's a good idea" I nodded, "Do you want me to come?"

"I think I need some time alone" Lucifer replied,

"Okay, and if you need anything just ask" I offered.

"Thank you"

"Can we talk tomorrow? If possible" I asked, only because now Lucifer has returned, I want to see how Lucifer really was since he has returned from Hell. He seems to act normal tonight, but I really needed to be fully okay both physically and mentally in order for me to tell him the news about our baby. Because God only knows that this was literally shocking Lucifer to death.

"Of course" Lucifer replied which grew me a smile. I turned around to walk towards the officers to give them my statement. Until I realised that Lucifer is here without his car and he possibly needs a ride home.

"Hey, do you need a drive?" I turned back around and shouted only to find that Lucifer wasn't there anymore. Till I completely forgot that Lucifer has pair of large, white wings, he must have flown back home.

Concurrently, I decided to go back home and take an earlier sleep after that whole unexpected attack event that almost gave me a few heart attacks, they've all made me very exhausted. Dan had Trixie for tonight, so I have the whole apartment to myself. I quickly had a short meal to eat before heading off to my bedroom and dressed in a pair of pyjamas. Once I tucked in my bed, I didn't off my bedside table lamp just yet as I think it's probably a nice time for me to talk again to the unborn baby.

"Hey baby" I whispered as my eyes darted down to my flat stomach.

"You'll never believe it. Daddy's here!" I whispered loudly in a cheerful tone. I bet that the tiny baby could feel my happiness vibrating throughout my body.

"I'll tell him about you. I promise" I vowed, praying that when I do tell Lucifer he would be okay when he finds out, "He just needs some time to settle back in because your dad has just come back from a bad place."

"But, I promise you, once your dad knows about you, he will love you and care for you, and we could all live as a normal family" I swear on my life. Even if Lucifer doesn't want the baby, I will then have to look after it alone, I would choose this baby over him because that's what a good parent does.

But, I think despite the fact that sometimes Lucifer has constantly said how he despises children, Lucifer has developed a pretty close bond with my child and Trixie does see Lucifer as part of our family. Maybe, if Lucifer just try out and see

"Goodnight baby" as before, I kissed the top of my fingers and softly press it down on the side of my stomach. Then, I turned off the table lamp and comfortably settled myself underneath the bed sheet and slowly I fell into a deep and peaceful sleep.

I continued searching around the precinct for Lucifer, thinking perhaps he's by the vending machines or he's possibly in the men's toilets. Still no sign of him yet, my last checking point was in the interrogation room. When I checked it was dark and empty, making me dismally sigh so I turned back and gave up.

"Looking for something?" Ella suddenly appeared behind, nearly giving me a shock. And, I probably felt the baby bounced in shock as well inside my womb.

"Oh! Hi. Huh? I'm just looking for Lucifer" I answered truthfully since there's no reason to lie anymore and keep up with the fake Britain story, now that Lucifer is back.

"Aw, sweetie, it's come to this? Full-on delusions" Ella hugged compassionately and whispered in a confident tone, "We are gonna get through this. Promise."

"No, no. I promise. I'm fine. He really is back" I let go of the hugging and walked to the centre of the precinct with my eyes still scanning around looking for Lucifer. I heard Ella's footsteps behind as she was following me, so I mentioned, "I saw him last night, and well I need to see him again."

"Wait, wait. Lucifer's back? Like, seriously back?" Ella rushed around to get in front of me as she wanted to see the seriousness in whether or not I was telling the truth.

"Yeah" I nodded.

Straightaway, Ella slide her phone out from her pocket and looked into him, then she sadly sighs, "Full bars, battery's charged, but no texts or calls or messages. Awesome. Not surprised, though. He didn't tell me when he left, so why would he tell me when he's back when he?"

I gulped in sorrow as I know that Ella was heartbroken as me when Lucifer left us. I wished I could tell everything to Ella because she is such an easy-going and understandable person. But I can't afford for Lucifer to lose another friend, first Charlotte and now Dan is slightly breaking his friendship bond with Lucifer.

"Ella, I know you're bummed at him, and you have a reason, but he also had a really good reason for leaving so suddenly. And while he's been gone, he's sort of been through...
well Hell" I tried to

So, you know, maybe if you could just cut him a little bit of slack, that's all."

"I guess it would be nice to have good old Lucifer around again" Ella figured and I was pleased that she was able to look at it from my view.

"Yeah. Definitely"

"Oh, wait. Are you going to tell him about the B.A.B.Y?" Ella whispered that last part knowing how much I want to keeps things private when it comes to my baby.

"N.O.T" I shortly paused while slightly shaking my head, "Y.E.T."

Ella quietly gasped and I quickly cut in, "Look, he just came back. I don't want to drop this major bomb on him immediately."

"Alright" Ella agreed after a short while before she changed her calm mood to a vicious stage as she formed a fist from her right hand and growled, "But, if he doesn't help out with you or his kid, that hijo de puta is going to get a huge knuckle sandwich."

I don't know much about Spanish, but I could tell from the angry tone of Ella's voice that she was swearing at Lucifer in a bad way. I chuckled at Ella's feisty yet caring nature, "Thanks Ella."

"Also, we got a case at the Red 2 Mars Project" she then handed me over the small paper files that she was holding in her arms.

"Great. I'll let Lucifer know" I replied before turning around and see if the paperwork for this new case is on my desk. I slide out my phone and just realised something. "If he could find his phone" I knew that Lucifer didn't bring his phone with him down to Hell, so he must have left it back at the penthouse before he left. I just hope, after spending thousands of years down in that horrible place, Lucifer could remember where he last put it so he could read my texts.

At Red 2 Mars Project

It was very wildly fancying to walk inside a space station as I had never been inside one before, I mean I have seen like similar to a movie set based on a space station, but it felt completely different compare to walking into a real one. Walking through the white, heptagon hallway reminds me of those famous movies like Alien or Gravity or Star Trek.

Ella and Dan were already there at the crime scene as Ella was taking photos of our victim while Dan was staking down notes. There were many forensic scientists there taking around the large hexagon bedroom. There were six beds all pointing towards the centre of the room and in the middle of the room was a giant light tube partly covered with green plants on the outside and it stood from the floor to the ceiling. I joined with Dan and Ella, "Hey guy, so who's our victim?"

"Judy Mason. She was a biochemist and a commander of the Red 2 Mars Project, a simulation, engineered by the fine folks at Brody Aerospace" Ella raised up while explaining the background of our victim.

"Who?" I questioned.

"Anders Brody. The tech billionaire. The guy has a boatyard. And, he has a spaceship, too. He rich!" she sang that last part.

Dan walked closer to me and added, "And so is the entire crew on this project, actually."

"Whoa" I gasped, wondered how a guy could own this much. At the same time, I was pleased to see that Dan looked a bit better than usual.

"Judy was the only scientist. The other five were just civilians who paid buttloads for a spot on the Red Planet" Ella informed me, "I mean, Brody himself is going to take them to be the first Mars colony. I mean, that is if tests go according to plan."

"Well, this certainly doesn't look like part of the plan" I commented on how Judy's death was not part of the Red 2 Mars Project's plan. But, possibly it was part of the killer's plan.

"Nope, Judy was stabbed in the neck" Ella pointed as I leaned forward and focused down on the bloody wounded formed on the side of Judy's neck.

"There's an apple and this hair, which was stuck in that bloody footprint. I checked everyone's suits but couldn't find any blood" Dan lifted up two evidence bags; one with a bitten red apple and the other with the hair inside of it, hopefully it will help us to find the killer quicker. Then, Dan theorised, "The killer must have cleaned their own suit, because since no one's allowed in or out of the dome."

"Meaning it had to be one of those five. So, we got ourselves a locked-door mystery, mi amiga" Ella included herself in.

"And the cameras, did they capture anything?" I asked as I spotted a CCTV camera held above us that was staring down at the whole room. I walked back a bit till I was standing in the centre of the bedroom.

"Yeah, but most of the footage has already been wiped" Dan hopelessly sighed, before he walks away Dan quickly added, "But, we gonna checking."

"Okay, well, I got to talk to the crew back to the precinct. And, let's see if we can get anything with that hair" I faced Ella before turning around and decided

"Hello, Detective."

Even before I could see who that voice belongs to, I already recognised that voice anyway. Lucifer surprisingly appeared out of the blue right in front of me at the entrance out from the bedroom. I was blissfully taken back by his unexpected appearance, but I was so pleased to see him again. Lucifer was in a different suit this time with a pale blue shirt underneath a black jacket and a dark blue hand handkerchief in the side pocket.

"Lucifer. Hi, I..." I was staled and grew a delightful smile as Lucifer did the same, "How did you get here?"

"Well, I called the precinct and they told me that you were here" Lucifer and I nodded thinking that Lucifer hasn't found his phone yet as he presented a wide and blissful grin on his face, "So, here I am, and there's nowhere I'd rather be, so..."

Shockingly, Ella dashed in between us and started slamming Lucifer hard with her shoe. I tried to reach out and stop Ella from hitting Lucifer knowing that he would be ended up with bruises on his body since he will be vulnerable in my presence. It was quite hard to stop Ella since she swings her hand too fast for me to catch.

Ella angrily roared while whacking her shoe in a fast rhythm, "I can't believe you left and didn't even say goodbye! You just ran off to Britain and forgot about us."

Once Ella finally stops, Lucifer grew a bewildered look on his face as he glances over Ella and eyed me, "Britain?"

I realised that Lucifer can't lie for his fake story that I've had to make up for him, so I dashed in between them and faced Ella, "Yeah, um, Ella you see…"

Lucifer cut in, "Yes. Yes, I was in Britain."

Both of our heads turned and faced Lucifer with a deep surprised look on our faces, especially on mine, Ella was the first who broke the short silence, "What?"

"What?" I repeated the same question but in a more louder and confused voice.

Were my ears working? Or was my mind playing tricks on me again? Because doubts were suddenly flooding my mind as I was questioning myself; did Lucifer just lied. He just lied to us in front of our faces, lying words actually flew out through Lucifer's mouth. My face melted away into a deep shock and puzzlement, wondering how could this be possible. Felt like I have fallen into a crazier version of wonderland.

"Yes, my mother was terribly ill" Lucifer continued lying which widen my eyes and lowering my jaw. My dry mouth was slightly moving as I wanted to ask 'Why? How?' but nothing came out.

"I thought you had to take over the family business" Ella pointed out from the fake story I had to make up to her and others to believe in since Lucifer's absence.

"Indeed. My mother was ill, which is why I had to take over the business" Lucifer did it again. How could Lucifer start lying right here right now when he never has lie to us in the last four years.

"But Britain is wretched. Far too many creepy-crawlies and no Miss Lopez" Lucifer cheekily winked at Ella and held a cocky smirk.

"Oh, I can't stay mad at you!" Ella quickly dropped her wrath and her shoe, then cheerfully hugged Lucifer which he gladly accepted even though he's not a big fan of hugging.

Ella soon left with a glee smile as she was over-the-moon to see her friend again, I held a fake smirk until Ella walked away and my smile quickly vanished. Lucifer developed a perplexed stare when he noticed my unconvinced look, he asked in a concerned and innocent tone, "Detective, what's wrong?"

"Can we..." I pointed him the way out to the hallway. Lucifer immediately obeyed as he walked out of the spaceship bedroom and I followed behind him. Once we had some privacy, I gave him a straight face with a puzzled stare and pointed out the problem, "You just lied to Ella."

"Uh, no. You did. I just kept up the ruse" Lucifer denies with a wide, careless grin.

"But, you never lie. You always tell the truth" I stated the one true fact that was always a thing about Lucifer, the only thing that Lucifer never do is lie.

"Remember, Detective, for you, I was only gone for two months. But for me, I was in Hell
for thousands of years. A few things might have changed, maybe even improved" Lucifer explained although I still wasn't really convinced by his answer, "Besides, a little white lie could be quite beneficial."

I didn't know what to think or to say about, how could Lucifer who always says to people that he never, then suddenly decided to change that honest part of who he is.

"Oh. You're back. Great" Dan walked past and hissed in a low and angry tone.

"What's wrong with Daniel?" Lucifer asked.

"Yeah. He's still quite sore from Charlotte's death" I mentioned and Lucifer made an understandable look, "And, when you were gone, Dan sort of used he's been sort of blaming you."

"Don't take it personally, okay" I advised while gazing back at Dan as I know he I still trying to cope with Charlotte's death but Dan needs more time, "It's just his way to squeezing his anger out."

"I see" Lucifer looks back at Dan until he faced me again but this time, he developed a small smile, "Allow me."

"Wait, Luc…" before I could say anymore, Lucifer began walking straight towards Dan.

"Daniel" Lucifer called which made Dan stopped. I felt Dan's rage uncontrollably boiling up making me think that Dan might do something physical to Lucifer like a punch. I prayed to myself, 'Please don't make a scene! Please don't make a scene!'

Then, I watched Lucifer approached Dan as the devil spoke in a friendly matter, "It is really, really good to see you, and I do apologise for coming to Charlotte's funeral."

"And, if you need any support, anything at all. Please let me assist" Lucifer softly rubbed the side of Dan's arm and held a warm grin.

"Like your stupid jokes or your insults" Dan darkly chuckled before he replied with a death stare at Lucifer. He raised his hand and pointed his finger and harshly pressed the tip on Lucifer's chest, Dan ended in a cold and spiteful tone, "But if I do need anything from you, I want some distance."

Dan flounced away before I noticed a sense of hatred painted on his face, however Lucifer didn't seem to be bothered by Dan's answer as he came back to me with a rather pleasing stare. "See? I'm a changed man" he stated as Lucifer widens his arms and present himself as a showman, "Lucifer 2.0."

I had no words to say through my dry mouth as I didn't know what to think about all of these sudden changes. "Right, shall we get on with the case?" Lucifer clapped his hands and wiggled his eyebrows as the devil walked past me heading back to the crime scene. I watched him leave as he left me speechless and confused, as billions of questions began flooding inside my head like, "What's up with Lucifer?"

Later on, we left the crime scene at the space station and drove in our own cars. Driving down through the busy roads, I had to be careful now and then as I am two months pregnant and any accident may cause miscarriage. Fortunately, Lucifer never questioned it.

When we reached to the precinct, I collected the paperwork about the murder case from the top of my desk. Lucifer following beside me as I explained, "So, there are five Red 2 Mars Project members. We just have to figure out which one had a motive to kill Judy."

"Yes, interrogation. I remember it well. Crucial to the crime-solving process" Lucifer recalled back to our times when interviewing suspects.

"Well, yeah, but you can make it fun. You always do" I reminded him.

"Also, you left this behind" I stopped and walked over to my desk and reached over to the bottom drawer and pulled it open. I had Lucifer's silver flask in my draw after he left it when he decided to go back to Hell. Grabbed the flask and handed it over to Lucifer, however once he took it Lucifer held a puzzled look. His dry mouth was slightly open as though Lucifer had no words to say, like he had no idea what to say. I revealed in an obvious tone, "It's your flask."

"Oh, thank you" he gratefully waved his flask, but to me, he looked like he was showing a fake grin. Then Lucifer slides the flask into the inner side pocket of his suit, "But it's still morning."

Lucifer walked off to the interrogation room before he could see the bewilderment covering on my face. First, he didn't taste right when we kissed last night, then he decided that he can lie like any other ordinary person, and now Lucifer doesn't really like to have a drink during work hours. And it gets weirder…

Once we started our interviews with each of the crew in the interrogation room, Lucifer actually wanted to do the paperwork and taking down notes. And, during that time, Lucifer had not once made a comment or a joke during the questioning towards the suspects. I even tried to secretly ask Lucifer about him using his mojo on our suspects, but Lucifer acted like he has no idea what I was talking about. Although the suspect has given us some little good information about Judy, I was still not satisfied at the end because Lucifer was acting as a complete mystery.

It wasn't long before Ella came up with something from the string of hair that was found at the crime scene. Apparently, it was sheep hair and theorised that the murder must be someone from the outside. Lucifer sounded very delighted when we received our new lead. Soon, Lucifer and I travelled back to the space station and visited those who were in charge of the 'Red 2 Mars Project.' A receptionist led us to the bosses in the space station control room where it was all dark and people were working on their bright screen computers and there were large screens with coloured lines diagrams based on the Mars 2's project.

"Detective Decker and this is my consultant" I introduce ourselves as I showed them my budge and Lucifer was standing in a straight and professional position, I continued, "We have a few questions about Judy."

"Sure. I'm Sam Chavez and this is my wife Mandy" the man introduced themselves. Sam was in a blue shirt with a dark blue tie and his wife, Mandy was in a black outfit with her short blonde hair down to her shoulders. Each had a red I.D tag wrapped around their necks.

Lucifer was the first one to question the Chavez's which came to my surprise since he usually lets me do the asking, "So, it has come to our understanding that no one was allowed in or out of the facility, but people must have come to the dome to drop off supplies, yes?"

"Uh, no, actually. The whole point is to simulate a real trip to Mars, so no one's going to swing by when you're just, you know, 33 million miles away" Sam explained.

"And what about repairs?" I asked.

"Again, all maintenance has to be done on-site, although that's minimal, too" Sam answered, "We've made a lot of improvements from the first project to Red 2."

"Frankly, we're less concerned about equipment failure than we are of people breaking down" Mandy added.

"And what does that mean?" I wondered what Mandy meant by 'people breaking down.'

"One of the main reasons why we're running these simulations is to test the psychological strength of our travellers. It's difficult to be isolated with strangers for so long, away from your family, friends, everyone you love" Mandy explained to us.

I felt the similarity between those who go to space away from civilisation and to what Lucifer has been through when he ran Hell for over thousands of years. I know that Lucifer is a strong man, but he would have possibly been through Hell mentally since he has been surrounded by demons and no one else. Alone and away from his home and his family.

"Yeah. I participated in the Red 1 Mars Project. I can tell you first-hand, the experience really... changes a person" Sam pointed out and by including that with Mandy's descriptive words, it suddenly makes me ever more concerned about Lucifer.

"But once you came back, you do start to feel more like yourself, right?" I asked. Thinking that maybe that's why he has been acting so different because he has been away for so long. But, Lucifer could gradually get back to his normal self. Right?

"To tell you the truth, I'm not sure. I'm not sure if I'll ever be the same" Sam answered which didn't really help.

"Detective" Lucifer caught my attention when he called my name, at first I hoped he was going to say something unusual like making an inappropriate joke or perhaps linking the case to parts of his personal life. But, it wasn't done of those things, instead he recollected some information we got from the space crew, "Didn't one of the crew members mention that Judy was loud on the phone? Perhaps she was arguing with someone back home."

Mandy shook her head, "Doubtful. The sat phones are just used for project communications. They're only connected to the system here."

"Well, did anyone here have issues with Judy, then?" Lucifer continued questioning as though he was literally taking my role as the detective.

The two were silent which caught my suspicion until Mandy leaned in near Sam and whispered, "What about Donovan?"

"Sorry. Who?" I broke in and asked.

"Donovan Glover. An aerospace engineer who used to work here. But when Judy got promoted to project commander of Red 2, he got pissed" Sam painted us a picture of his story, "He went to Brody, Donavan threw a fit, so Brody fired him. And, Donovan was kind of... emotional when he left."

"Great. Well, thank you for your answers. We may need to come back with more questions" I ended the questionnaire and walked away with Lucifer following from behind.

Lucifer and I exited out from the control room and while we were pleased with the answers we collected from the Chavezs', I was still not gratified with the fact that Lucifer is still acting very odd that I cannot understand. We started walking down the narrow, white staircase and we nearly reached the bottom when I felt Lucifer's gaze darted on my face, "Detective, I could tell the questions you were asking certainly weren't just about the case."

"You're concerned that I have changed completely" he revealed the truth of my hidden agenda. I suddenly felt horrible because I know that Lucifer has just returned from Hell, a dreadful place and yet I was secretly complaining about the way he was suddenly behaviour.

"No, Lucifer…" before I could apologise, Lucifer quickly interrupted.

"Well, the truth is... I have" Lucifer confessed which gratifies me that Lucifer acknowledged this. Then Lucifer raised his right hand and the tip of his finger softly stroke the side of my head as they wave over and around my ear. I was enchanted with his hypnotic, dark eye and Lucifer purred, "But I need you to know that my feelings for you... haven't."

"You've already been so patient. I just ask that you give me a little more time" his voice sounded so convincing that I melted in his soft words.

"Of course. Whatever you need" I offered. Hoping that Lucifer knows that he could always come to me whether it is to talk or for anything else. And, I could tell through his eyes that Lucifer accepted my words.

"Thank you" Lucifer returned with a grateful grin.

Subsequently, I arrived back at the precinct alone as Lucifer says he has the stuff to do at Lux. I really didn't mind as it sort of helps me focus on the case without thinking about his strange behaviour today. I did some research on Donovan Glover and soon managed to find his recent address. During that time, I was surprised that I haven't heard back from Maze as she was usually overprotective about me especially since we found out about my pregnancy. Yet, since last night's attack, I would have expected Maze to come by and check if I was okay and unharmed. But nothing, I wonder why strange things are happening today?

Soon, I found Glover's recent address he has staying in, so I texted Lucifer to meet me outside of Lux. I parked outside and it wasn't long before lucifer arrived as he jumped into the passenger's seat as I noticed a scratch marked by the side of his forehead, "Hey, what happened?"

I pointed to the scratches on the top of his face and Lucifer answered, "Oh, I had a word with Maze earlier."

"I guessing it didn't go well" I assumed that Maze probably have given Lucifer a few punches and hits considering the fact that Maze was still pissed off with Lucifer since the day he left, but in Maze's mind she thinks that he abandoned us.

"On the contrary, detective, we seem to be on good terms now" Lucifer replied and I was taken back with his bewildering answer.

"Really? What happened?" I questioned.

"Oh, we worked out our issues and become friends again" Lucifer explained with an untroubled smile. Yet, his description baffled my mind, I couldn't describe it but the way he says it and how he says it just doesn't sound like the Lucifer I know. For example, Lucifer would have typically criticised how Maze is a violent and brutal demon.

I drove us to the recent home of Glover and we parked outside in the quiet not too close but far enough for us to have a clear of the front yard. We watched the last orange light in the sky slowly fades away as darkness covers over with glittery stars. The ghostly street was pretty quiet and dark as Lucifer and I kept to ourselves and just focus on the home address, waiting for our prime suspect to come.

I darted my stare back and forth to Lucifer, feeling a certain uncanny feeling vibrating to me. Even after Lucifer has admitted to me that he might have changed during his long time in Hell; the explanation to his lying, not drinking his flask, his surprising interest in doing paperwork, or his lack of mocking, even towards Dan.

My uncontrolled curiosity got the better of me, and broke the silence, "Hey, Lucifer, do you mind if I asked you something?"

He gave a friendly grin, "Of course."

"What was Hell like?" I know Lucifer has arrived from Hell and I know how he deeply hates that place as Lucifer has described it to be a place to torture the dead guilty soul. Lucifer probably doesn't want to remind himself of Hell since he has stayed there for thousands of years. But, I wanted to know what Hell was really like in order to understand how spending thousands in Hell would mould him and shape his personality.

Silence caught Lucifer's tongue as he looks down for a second before locking his stare into my face, "Hell is a dark place. A place I hope you will never go to."

Shortly smiled as I was softened by his kind words, but then when I mentioned Hell it led me to another question, "What about the demons?"

"What about them?" Lucifer showed a careless grin with empty gaps in the centre of his dark eyes like he had no answer for my pointless question.

"Well, last time, most of them came up and kidnapped Charlie" I reminded him and I watched Lucifer recalling back the event. I was anxiously curious about how Lucifer could forget about that. I asked him, "Aren't they going to come back up? Now that you're back?"

Lucifer was completely quiet as though he didn't have an answer for that, which concerns me as the whole reason why Lucifer left to go back to Hell was to take control of the demons. I evoked the warm night where we said our last tearful goodbyes on the balcony, I remembered how heartbroken Lucifer was when he told me that he must go back to keep the demons in order. I didn't know exactly what he said before and I knew Lucifer was saying at the time, "And you told me that probably couldn't back come."

Lucifer could see my pain reflecting through my blue eyes and through my words. He leaned quite forward and formed a cocky smile as he used before, "I did say probably, didn't I?"

True, but during that special moment Lucifer surely presumed the would be an unlikely chance for him returning. Lucifer continued, "Anyway, they're all taken care of. No need to worry. Trust me."

I felt his hand reached out and covered over mine that was resting on my leg, tenderly tighten his grip as he effectively caught my eyes with his mesmerizing stare. He deeply questioned in a grave tone, "You do trust me, do you, detective?"

I gazed up to him and into his dark, convincing eyes, usually I could see how heartfelt he is and how much he wished for me to have faith in him unconditionally. But, when I stare into his pupils all I could was a pool of plain, mysterious darkness making me wonder what else Lucifer has changed about himself. Then, I remind myself of how much I trusted Lucifer with my life, and some of his strange behaviour can't change the fact that Lucifer has saved my life.

Finally, I replied in a calm tone, "Yeah. You know I do."

My answer made Lucifer grew a fulfilled smile as I pulled my focus back on the house until I quickly noticed a tall man walking down the street towards us till he stopped and walked across the road. He fits the description of Glover I could see from a distance that this man was wearing a pair of glasses and is wearing a red and yellow jacket.

"Hey" I firmly tapped the surface of his hand as Lucifer followed my stare to our prime suspect who was walking across the road.

Unexpectedly for me, Lucifer popped his head out through the window like a dog and shouted, "Donovan Glover?"

Hearing Lucifer's voice loudly echoing within the quiet made Glover froze on the road as he faced our car as his face was filled with apprehension. I decided to get out of the car and called out as I raised my badge in my hand, "L.A.P.D! We have questions for…"

Right away when I mentioned who I am, Donovan began running towards his own grey car. Once he was in the car and I could hear the engine noisily rumbling and the headlights were already on. He is ready to take off.

"Shit!" I growled underneath my breathe.

"Get in" Lucifer instructed behind me.

"What?" I didn't realise that Lucifer dashed around the front side of the car and jumped into the driver's seat. I walked over to open the passenger's seat door and yelled, "What are you doing?"

"I know a short cut" Lucifer didn't exactly answer my questions, but I jumped in anyway. Lucifer turned the key, started the engine and pressed the gas taking off and began driving off in a fast pace like he was riding a racing car.

"Be careful" I loudly prayed.

"Don't worry" Lucifer calmly replied as I could see by the corner of my eye that Lucifer cracked an excited yet ominous smile, while he kept his focus on the roar ahead "I won't crash."

He suddenly went faster as I quickly pulled the strap of my seat belt across my chest and attached it to the bottom left side. Then, I reached forward and pressed a button which was set the centre of the car which sets off the siren alarm and some blue lights flashing at the front of my car. Alerting all car drivers ahead of us to move to the side for us to ride through.

Meanwhile, I was brainstorming some thoughts on how to get Glover, "He's heading towards the bridge if you head west…"

"We can cut him off" Lucifer ended my sentence.

"Read my mind" I kindly commented.

After passing a turn, we ended up on a bridge chasing Glover from behind. Lucifer was driving now at a rapid speed making my stomach twist like a tight rope knot as I trying to calm down my breathing. Lucifer carefully dodged past a few cars and was catching up with Glover. My hands gripped the side of the car door, holding myself tightly in position praying that we won't crash while feeling my stomach anxiously twisting in fear. I eyed at Lucifer as he darkly chuckled when he swiftly changed lanes acting like this was a rollercoaster ride.

Glover speedily took the right turn which leads him down away from the bridge, and Lucifer was almost managing to tailgate him. After taking a few more short turns, Glover has chased himself into a wide alleyway with a dead end.

"You've got him!" I elate in an uplifting tone.

Glover reached to the end of the road and span his car around in one loop, while Lucifer stopped the car blocking the only entrance glover has to escape us. Immediately, I jumped out of the car and walked out to the front as I draw out my gun out from the side pocket. I aimed directly at Glover who was still sitting in his car while I heard Lucifer walking to my side.

I loudly roared, "Glover! Get out of the car!"

I didn't hear an answer but only the silence that surrounds us and the bright headlights were still on. After a few seconds, the engine began rumbling again and Glover started driving but this time he was heading straight towards us. I fired a few shots at him to warm him to stop driving but he didn't stop.

"Oh God!" I quietly gasped in fear.

Thought of leaping out of the way before Glover could run us over until I felt a pair of hands from behind grip on the side of my arms and forced me to spin around. Lucifer was standing so close to mine as he held my head from behind and brought it to the crook of his neck. There was no time for me to ask what he was doing as my fear of death was already flooding within my body and it choked the words in my mouth. I then felt a puff of wind appeared behind his back and I know that sound from anywhere; his wings.

Suddenly, the ground beneath my feet was no longer there, I felt the cool air rushed underneath to the bottom and the back of my body. I soon realised that Lucifer was flying me off into the air, I couldn't look at what was happing as Lucifer was carefully carrying my body in his arms with one coiled around my back and the other was holding on the back of my head. I had a glimpse over his shoulder and saw the dark sky above me. It felt like we were flying forever, oh how I wanted it to be forever for Lucifer to hold me tight and never letting me go.

But, soon I felt my feet back on the hard ground and lean my head back away from his shoulder and could Lucifer that was painted with half concern about my wellbeing since I was probably in shock from nearly getting ran over or from the unexpected flight rescue and was half thrilled by that short flight.

"Whoa" I deeply huffed as that feeling of Lucifer lifting me in the air was breathtaking.

"Yes. That was quite fun" Lucifer widened his exhilarated grin.

My gaze glanced past over his shoulder and saw that Glover's car was still here, but he has disastrously crashed into my car. I dashed over to see Glover was still in the car or he slipped his out and ran before we even knew it. Fortunately, Glover was still in the car, but unfortunately his whole forehead was smashed into the widow and now was covered in deep scratches and scars with his own red blood.

"Oh no" I whispered in shame now that our main lead was now unconscious and most possibly be dead soon.

I pulled out my phone and made a quick call, "911. This is Detective Decker I need an ambulance right now!"
