Chapter 13:

The first round, master vs student

Lucy stood in the waiting room trying to calm herself. She thought back to all her victories before she came to this world. When she beat Sherry when her magic could control her spirts, she used Aquarius's wide range and her disregard to her safety to win. When she and Juvia team-up and fought Vilaldus and Vilaldus turned Juvia against her. She was lucky she was able to reach the true Juvia and use a unison raid against Vilaldus. Then there was her fight with Bickslow, who earlier defeated Gray. With Loke she was able to defeat him. Then there was the time she fought Angel a fellow Celestial spirt mage, who had no regard for her spirts what so ever. It was a tough fight, but thanks to Hibiki giving her access to Urano Metria, she was able to win.

But every time Lucy reminded herself of her victories in the past her doubts came back when she remembered how Meliodas and Ban destroyed an entire prison, just by arm wrestling each other. Every time she remembered that her doubts and worries came back full force. But she has a plan, a plan that could back fire on her. But Lucy didn't have any other options at the moment.

"Erza we're ready for you." Said an aid as Lucy headed to the ring.

Outside the crowd was cheering as they were ready for the tournament to resume.

"Thanks for your patience! Let's get started with the first round, fight A!" Said Love Helm as the crowd roared. "Would the two contestants please come forward."

As Lucy and Meliodas walked into the ring on opposite sides Love Helm explained the rules. "To win, make your opponent give up or knock them out cold! You can also knock them out of the ring!"

"In this corner we have Erza!" Said Love Helm as the crowd cheered. "And that's all we know about her folks."

"And in the other corner we have Natsu! And we also know nothing about him." Said Love Helm as the crowd didn't care. People come from all over for this tournament, so a few unknown people weren't unheard of.

"You ready?" Asked Meliodas as he did a few stretches.

"As ready as I can be." Said Lucy as she got into a fighting stance.

"Wait sir." Said Love Helm as pointed at Meliodas. "You can't use weapons in this tournament!"

Meliodas knew what he was talking about and drew his blade. "It's just for decoration." He told Love Helm who looked at the blade.

"OK, but if you bring it out you lose." He told Meliodas as he turned to Lucy. "And you ma'am, those Keys could be used as a weapon."

"Don't worry, they can't be used like that. And his blade has a sharper edge to it then my keys." Said Lucy as Love Helm thought about it.

"Ok, but if it looks like either of you two will use your items as weapons you lose." Love Helm told them.

"If both fighters are ready?" Asked Love Helm as both Lucy and Meliodas nodded. "Then begin!"

Lucy made the first move as she pulled out one of her keys. "Open the gate of the maiden! Virgo!" Said Lucy as Virgo appeared outside the of the ring.

"Good Luck Hime!" Said Virgo as the people around her was shocked by her sudden appearance.

"And now Star dress!" Said Lucy as her body glowed. When it died down, she was now wearing what looked like a maid dress with sliver amour covering her toros. And the bottom of the dress were strips of amour covering sections. And on Lucy's head was bonnet. (See overloads Narberal gamma for a better idea.)

Seeing this many men were whistle at Lucy, while others wondered why.

"So, she's a maid now?" Asked Hawk confused.

"Seems like it." Agreed Ban.

"I'm sure she has her reasons." Said King as he defended Lucy.

Meliodas gave Lucy a weird look. "So, what this going to do for you?" He asked her.

"This." Was all Lucy said as she sank into the ground.

Seeing this many people were wondering where she was. Meliodas looked around as he knew that Star dress gave Lucy the power of the Spirt who dress she wore. And if he remembered right Virgo had the power to dig through the ground with ease.

Lucy then came up behind Meliodas and kicked him in the back. Meliodas stumbled forward and turned around, but Lucy had already gone back under. Meliodas then closed his eyes and focused on the ground. He then felt the ground move to his side, and he moved to attack, but to his surprise a hole appeared. Meliodas barely had time to back up when Lucy came up behind him.

"Spica Hole!" Said Lucy as she grabbed Meliodas and tossed him forward. When Meliodas hit the ground, it created another hole.

"How about that folks!" Said Love Helm as the crowd cheered. "It seems that when Erza dresses up as a maid she can travel through the ground."

"She's being smart." Said Ban as he approved of her fighting method.

"What do you mean?" Asked Hawk confused.

"Lucy knows she can't win head to head, so she's fighting him indirectly as best as she can. And it seems to be working." Explained King as Meliodas got out of the hole.

"Not bad." Praised Meliodas as he was having a hard time keeping up.

"Thanks." Said Lucy as she used the spell Diver to go back underground.

The crowd was really getting into the match as they waited for Lucy to come up and attack. Meliodas looked around as he tried to figure out where Lucy come out. He heard the ground move behind him, making him turn around. Only to see Lucy fixed the holes she caused.

Lucy then jumped out of the ground and used her momentum to kick Meliodas in the head. Meliodas head crashed into the ground as Lucy went back under. Meliodas slowly got up as he rubbed his head.

He looked around the ring as he then started to randomly jump around the ring. He was hoping doing this would slow Lucy down, but his surprise Lucy's counter was making holes around the arena and they were all different sizes.

Meliodas was able to find a safe spot to land as he looked around as he tried to think of a way to win. Sure, he could smash the arena, but that would end the festival and he didn't want that. And to be honest he was proud that Lucy found such a way to fight him.

Then to his surprise Lucy came up on the other side of the arena with her arms folded and a grin on her face. Seeing this made Meliodas wonder what she had planned.

"Spica Lock!" Said Lucy as the rocks in the arena swarmed Meliodas as it trapped him in a sphere.

Seeing this Lucy grinned as she fixed the staged. She then ran to the sphere and was going to kick it out of the arena. But as her foot was about to make contact Meliodas's hand shot out and grabbed it.

Meliodas then broke out of the Spica lock and slammed Lucy on the ground. Lucy gasped as she didn't expect that and tired to get up, but Meliodas hit her in the stomach sending her off her feet.

Lucy weakly got up and was about to use Diver, but Meliodas was on her and hit her with a flurry of punches.

The crowd was roaring as this match was great as they couldn't tell what was going to happen next.

Meliodas then uppercut Lucy as she went flying off her feet. As Lucy was in the air her Star dress gave out and she returned to normal.

As Lucy hit the ground her body felt like it was on fire. Every inch was sore as she tried to get up. Meliodas saw her struggling and waited for her to get up on her own.

Lucy was on her knees as she was trying to get the strength to stand up. As she tried to stand up, she stumbled and used her arms to keep herself up.

"You can do it!" Something from the audience yelled.

"Show him what girls are made of." A woman yelled.

Soon people wearing cheering Lucy on as she tried to stand. Meliodas and the others looked around hearing all this cheering as they didn't expect this.

As the crowd cheered for Lucy, she was using all her strength to stand up. She wasn't about to lose here. With one last shove of her energy she stood up.

Seeing this the crowd cheered. But something was wrong Lucy just stood there as her head hang low. She stood like that for a little bit as people were wondering what was wrong. Love Helm walked over to Lucy as gasped at what he saw.

"Oh my god!" Said Love Helm in shock. "Erza has passed out on her feet!"

Hearing that everyone was surprised as this was the first time this has ever happened. Meliodas walked over and saw Lucy just standing there with her eye closed.

'I'm proud of you.' Thought Meliodas as she put a up a good fight. It was just one mistake at the end that cost her the match.

"Well since Erza has passed out on her feet that makes Natsu the winner!" Announced Love Helm as the crowd cheered for both Lucy and Meliodas.

"Is there somewhere we can let her rest?" Meliodas asked Love Helm.

"She can rest in the waiting room." Love Helm told him.

Meliodas then picked up Lucy and headed over to the waiting room. As he got closer, he saw Virgo there waiting for him.

"Virgo what are you still doing here?" Asked Meliodas as Lucy told them when her magic ran out her spirts would leave.

"I'm using my own magic to stay here." Said Virgo as she then took Lucy from Meliodas.

"I'll stay here and watch over the hime." Virgo told Meliodas as he nodded.

"If you need us, just call." Meliodas told her as Virgo nodded as she entered the room.

Back with the others the crowd was still talking about the fight, as King and Ban talked about it too.

"I've never seen someone fight like that before." Admitted King as it nearly worked.

"Yeah. Too bad she got a little cocky at the end. Otherwise she might have beaten the captain." Said Ban as that one mistake cost Lucy the match.

"Will the next fighters please come to the ring!" Announced Love Helm as Ban then headed to the ring.

"See ye Elf-boy." Said Ban with a chuckle as King was fuming.

Ban looked at the elderly man across from him, as he didn't feel like he would be much of a challenge.

"I won't lie." Said Cain gaining Ban's attention. "I know I can't win against you."

Hearing the crowd started to say things like 'you never know till you try', 'be more like Erza' and 'don't be scared'.

"But if that girl can fight knowing she won't win, then I can do the same." Said Cain as he got into a fighting stance, but then wobbled as he was a bit drunk.

Ban saw this and chuckled as he was used to fighting drunk too. He then pulled his hands out of his pockets as he respected the man for willing to fight.

"OK then." Said Love Helm as he looked at both fighters. "Begin!"

"You get the first shot old man." Said Ban with a grin.

Cain smiled as he then rushed Ban with speed not expected of an old man, surprising Ban and the crowd. Cain hit Ban's stomach hard causing Ban to gasp a bit as he fell to one knee. Seeing this Cain went for a kick, but then out of nowhere Ban grabbed the leg.

"Not bad old man." Said Ban with a grin as he tossed Cain back.

But in the air Cain formed a ball of fire in his hands and tossed it at Ban. Ban backflipped out of the way as Cain threw more fireballs at him. Ban quickly moved out of the way as he tried to get closer to Cain.

But Cain saw this and made a wall of flame around him to stop Ban. Ban jumped back as the wall of flames died down as the crowd was going crazy for the fight.

"Not bad old man." Said Ban as this was more of a challenge then he though.

"Well I am a former Holy knight." Stated Cain as this caught the attention of all the knights in the crowd.

"Oh." Said Ban intrigued. "You're a former Holy knight." As that explained why he was stronger than a normal old man.

"But not for this kingdom." Said Cain sadly as Ban understood what that meant. His kingdom was gone, by what he didn't know.

Cain the readied another fireball when Ban held out his arm towards him.

"Physical hunt." Said Ban as Cain suddenly felt weaker as the fireball vanished and Cain fell to his knees.

The crowd was confused at what happened as Ban walked over to Cain and kneeled by him.

"I've taken your strength and added it to my own." Said Ban as Cain understood what Ban was telling him.

While Cain was able to put a good fight, he was old and with his strength stolen. He knew that any hit he took he wouldn't be able to take it.

"I give up." Said Cain as he felt his strength return as he stood up.

"I don't know what happened just now, but the winner is Gajeel!" Announced Love Helm as the crowd cheered.

King watched as he knew Ban used Physical hunt. That technique takes the energy of his opponent and adds it to his own. And the worst part was Ban loved to troll them with it. It didn't matter when or where Ban would use it on them. Heck King had suspension that Ban used it on them while in battle, but never had any proof to back up his claims.

"Man, these are some good matches." Said a random guy in the crowd.

"Yeah. Makes me wish I had something to drink, while watching." Another guy said.

Hearing that Hawk's ears moved as he got an idea. "I'll be back!" Said Hawk as he ran off leaving King confused.

"Where's he going?" King asked himself as he realized something else. "Also, where's the captain?

With Meliodas he was walking over to Cain as Cain was leaving the fight area.

"Yo, Cain." Said Meliodas as he causally approached him.

"Meliodas!" Said Cain as he was shocked that he still looked the same.

"It's been some time." Said Meliodas.

Cain just stood there as he glared at Meliodas. Seeing this Meliodas sighed.

"Can we at least talk?" Asked Meliodas hopeful.

"Alright." Was all Cain said as the two talked.

Meanwhile back at the ring the next fight was underway already. But unlike the other two fights this one was one-sided. Taizoo kept swinging his fists over and over, but Howzer kept dodging them all like they were nothing.

As King and Ban watched they could tell this fight was over. The difference in strength was too great between Taizoo and Howzer as Howzer hadn't attacked once, since he to knew the difference. But the crowd didn't, and they were enjoying the fight.

"How much longer do you think this will go on?" Asked Ban bored.

"It's up to Howzer." King told him as Howzer dodged another punch.

"Hey, you made your point that you're the three-time champion, so can you please stop being stubborn and surrender?" Asked Howzer as he didn't want to hurt Taizoo too badly.

"You…You arrogant brat!" Said Tiazoo angerly as it felt like Howzer was looking down on him.

"Geez." Said Howzer as he ducked under a swing. "I'm saying this for your own good."

Hearing that Taizoo let his rage take over and charged at Howzer like a wild animal. Howzer wasn't worried as he simply ducked down and jabbed Taizoo in the stomach. Even though it was a light tap, Taizoo went skidding as he was neared the edge of the ring.

"I…I'm not done yet!" Said Taizoo, but he was on one knee and was breathing hard.

"Listen I didn't want to use my power on an ordinary person, but it would be bad for you if I let this drag on." Said Howzer as wind started to form around his arm.

"You bastard!" Yelled Taizoo as he charged at Howzer.

"It was a nice fight." Said Howzer honestly as he used his wind covered arm to hit Taizoo. When he made contact Taizoo went flying as the crowd gasped.

Taizoo then landed on some bushes near the bottom of the arena. Once word got to Love Helm he called the fight.

"The winner is Howzer!" Declared Love Helm as the crowd cheered and Howzer celebrated.

That when Ban noticed something. "Hey where's the master?" He asked King as he was talking about Hawk.

"No idea. He just suddenly ran off." King told him.

"Get your beer here!" Yelled Hawk as King and Ban looked over and saw Hawk with a beer barrel on his back, selling beer to people.

"Yo." Said Meliodas as he rejoined the others.

"Where were you Captain?" Asked Ban curious.

"Just talking to someone." Was all Meliodas said as King and Ban looked at each other and shrugged.

"Ok let's begin the final match of round one!" Said Love Helm as the crowd cheered. "Will Graimore and Matrona please come to the ring!"

Soon the two were in the ring as Matrona was still covered by her cloak and large hat.

Love Helm then stepped toward Matrona. "Excuse me miss! You can keep the hat, but we'll have you to ask you to remove your cloak. We have to search you just in case you have concealed weapons."

Hearing that Matrona nodded as she undid her cloak and tossed it away. Seeing what was under the cloak the males in the crowd whistled and cheered, while the sins were surprised. For Matrona was wearing the same clothes as Elizabeth.

"Captain! Aren't those clothes…" Trailed off King in shock.

"Yeah, no doubt about it! It's the boar hat uniform!" Said Meliodas as he was worried about Elizabeth and Diane.

"But Captain, I know Lucy was training Elizabeth. But was she always that strong?" Asked King confused as everything was pointing to the Matrona being Elizabeth.

"If that's Elizabeth, then there's something strange about her." Said Meliodas confusing King.

"Something strange? What's strange?" Asked King curious to what it could be.

"Her chest is slightly smaller, and her butt is a little bigger." Said Meliodas with a straight face as King and Ban just stared at him.

"Now then, let the fight begin!" Yelled Love Helm as the fight started.

Then to the surprise of Graimore, Matrona vanished for a second before she was at his stomach delivering a flurry of punches to his gut.

"She's too fast." Said someone in the crowd.

"Look at her go!" Another yelled.

But Matrona stopped her attack and looked at Graimore's gut weird.

"I've got nothing against you, little girl." Said Graimore as he was fine. "But I can't lose here."

"It didn't work?!" Said one man.

"Look! Something weird is covering his stomach!" Another man said as over Graimore's stomach was dome of some kind.

"I can't be defeated when my pride as a man a Holy Knight is wounded!" Said Graimore as the dome started to cover him.

"Hey, this level of power…" Started Ban as both King and Meliodas knew it.

'Why are there two Holy Knights in this festival?' Meliodas asked himself trying to figure out what their plan was.

"This is my power Wall" Said Graimore as the dome completely covered him.

Matrona then threw several punches at Graimore but none of them did anything to Wall.

"It's too late little lady, you should have finished the fight before it covered his body." Said Howzer as he watched the fight as he wondered why Graimore was really here.

"That defensive barrier won't be affected by any ordinary magic or physical attacks at all. You drew a bad match-up. When that happens all, you can do is wait for him to release or lose his power." Continued Howzer as he felt the match was already over.

"I'll just push you out of the ring." Declared Graimore as his dome started to expand.

Matrona tried to push against it but was getting nowhere fast as she slowly moved to the edge of the ring. Seeing this Graimore smiled as he felt his magic was the prefect representation of his convection to protect princess Veronica as any cost.

But as Matrona neared the edge she took a step back and brought her fist back and threw a punch. But unlike the other punches she's thrown this one shattered Wall!

Graimore was shocked for a second as Matrona used this opening and rushed at him. She delivered a powerful uppercut punch to Graimore's chin sending him flying out of the ring and down the hill.

At the same time Matrona's hat fell off as King, Ban and Melodies started at Matrona in shock. For standing there was Diane, but for whatever reason she was human size.

"Griamor is knocked out of bounds! The winner is Matrona!" Declared Love Helm as the crowd cheered.

"A gigantic muscular man falls to an incredible attack by a beautiful lady!" Added Love Helm as Diane blushed at the complement.

"Is… Is she…?" Trailed off Ban as he couldn't believe his eyes.

"Ye…Yeah." Was all King could say.

"Man, I wanted to keep it secret for a little longer." Said Diane as she skipped over to them.

"Captain, am I… in a dream?" Asked King wondering if he was awake or not.

"Busted." Said Diane as she landed in front of them with a giggle.

"Who are you?" Asked Meliodas with a confused face.

Hearing that Ban and King took a step back as they knew what was coming, as Diane had an annoyed face. She then punched Meliodas in the gut as she walked off in a huff.

"What did I do?" Asked Meliodas on the ground in pain as Ban looked at him wondering if he was ok.

"You really are dumb captain." Said King not feeling sorry for him as he rushed off after Diane.

"DIANE!" Said King as Diane stopped and face him.

"What happened to your body?" Asked King confused. "How did you become that size? And isn't Elizabeth with you?"

"Not here." Said Diane as she headed into the waiting room as King followed her followed by Ban and Meliodas.

Off to the side Love Helm watched them as he then grinned as they had no idea what was coming. And when they did it would be too late for them.

And with that the first round is over. And I really enjoyed writing Lucy's and Meliodas's match. Now I know some of you are wondering why I put that match first and not last. I have two reasons for that first I was planning for Lucy to be knocked out in the match and if I had that as the last one Lucy would miss the rest of the tournament and I didn't want that. And the second reason is I couldn't wait to write it.
