"Hello there Ms. Nikos. How are you and the rest of team PROV doing today? Ahh, I see that you are using this time to practice with your semblance."
Pyrrha Nikos, a champion of the Mistral tournament circuits, who resembled a beautiful Amazon warrior as she was tall with pale skin, long red hair tied into a ponytail and shining green eyes. She wore a steel armor that was gilded to a bronze color and covered by a thin layer of polished leather. She had a golden circlet on her brow, her bronze boot greaves that reached halfway up her thighs, with a red sash tied around her waist.
Her scroll was currently suspended in midair thanks to her semblance as she ducked under a swipe from an Ursa before driving her weapon Milo in javelin form through the chin of the beast straight into the brain.
Her scroll traveled through the air over to her and she grabbed hold of it. "Greeting Headmaster, we are doing well that you for asking. We've actually…" she paused for a moment and then ducked in reflex as she heard a loud "FORE!" With a large boarbatusk sailed high above her head. She continued not letting it faze her,
"...Have just cleared out our sector ahead of schedule, and were planning on going over to check on team RWBY who are in the sector right next to ours."
A shout rang out behind her, causing her to sigh internally.
"Careful Nora! You almost hit Pyrrha! You know how bad that would have been if you hit our leader." The brown haired member (Orion) shouted. He was a short young man, wearing brown leather armor with bronze highlights the leather extended to his thighs where is knees and below were covered by golden boots. His weapon is a brown double bladed staff with a small buckler shield.
"Please calm down Orion, you know you can't win an argument with Nora and you are overreacting." Another male member of the team spoke up while stepping in between the two.
He had dark haired with a single pink stripe, his piercing magenta eyes were sharp, in this case stating a warning against the other male hunter from trying to escalated things. He was wearing a dark green, diagonally-buttoned, long-sleeved tailcoat with a long sleeve black undershirt underneath, light-tan pants, and black shoes. He sheathed his two green automatic blade pistols back into his sleeves as he walked up.
"That's why I yelled 'Fore' as I booped him." Nora retorted without missing a beat. Nora Valkyrie was the heavy hitter of the team with her war-hammer grenade launcher, Magnahild. She is a young woman with shoulder length orange-red hair, a white shirt with a heart shaped boob window, black bomber jacket with pink stripes, and a pink combat skirt,
"That doesn't excuse how reckless she was being!"
Team PROV or Providence as it stood for, was formed in a slightly unusual circumstances, Pyrrha Nikos, a four, now five time champion of the Mistral tournament ring had been late to arrive at Beacon Hunter Academy in Vale. One would think that someone who knew the significance of being early to something important. There were powers that she didn't even dream about coming to recruit her back into its folds. She had been delayed for several days because of major politicking done last minute by the administrators at Haven Academy who planned on keeping her in Mistral. It was apparent that some powerful figures in Mistral did not want anyone else to purloin their champion.
Her mother had supported her decision to go to Beacon if at the very least so that they could branch out and she had prepared for an underhanded tactic like this. But the damage was already done and Pyrrha had been two days late for the Beacon initiation. Her mother and Headmaster Ozpin had been furious with headmaster Lionheart for signing off on this action and took two counter courses to combat this. The first had been to give her a private initiation test, a specialized trial of combat and written test which she breezed through.
As much as Pyrrha hated special treatment in every normal situation, in this unusual situation, she was glad for this opportunity to follow her own path. The second course of action had been to discretely leak a variation of the story to a specific platinum haired Valean news reporter as retaliation.
Her two teammates, Lie Ren and Nora Valkyrie had qualified and gotten their acceptance letter while they were in Mistral, however their flight to Vale had been delayed and redirected twice due to a sudden migration of aerial Grimm. The Headmaster had called them after their second flights redirection, he informed them that their scholarship for Beacon was still valid and more importantly he promised they would still perform in a private initiation test should they not be able to make it on time for the scheduled test. If it wasn't for this opportunity Ren and Nora would have been forced to apply again for Haven.
They hadn't been able to make in time to participate in the normal initiation test so they had indeed been given the same type of special initiation test that the four times Mistral champion had been given earlier that day. Both groups passing with flying colors.
Orion Gorman was the only student on this team who had been there for the initiation, in his case he hadn't found enough participants to form a team and his own his partner had seriously injured and had to be sent Vale International Hospital for recovery, she was informed that it was going to be a lengthy recovery. Which led her to question the circumstances had allowed him to stay. Unfortunately he was also a fanatical fan of hers, which is why he tried to model his armor similarly to hers, which stressed the champion out to no end, daily.
In this instance the headmaster did not have any other reasonable options other than to form them all on a team. Suffice to say, it had been a rough first year for team PROV.
Pyrrha turned her attention back to her scroll and walked a few paces away to get away from the conversation. "Yes, Professor Goodwitch informed me before last break that my semblance is a part of who I am and not using it could have serious repercussions, maybe not to myself but to my teammates if I ever have to push beyond its limits, and she is correct. I am currently relearning more effective ways to multitask while using it."
"That is wonderful news. Unfortunately I received a rather urgent request of a search and rescue mission classified as Huntsman tier with your team being the closest and most available combat ready team in the area. I understand that this is the start of your second year and I would Ike to send another team with like team RWBY, however all other have reported a significantly higher population of Grimm than your team and are currently, still in the process of eliminating them."
"Are there no third or fourth year teams you could sent in our sted?" Pyrrha asked
"Unfortunately there aren't, as this is the beginning of a new year, the third year teams are watching over this year's initiation and none of the fourth-years will be in session until the end of this week. But I will send a team to reinforce you as soon as one team becomes available, if you are willing to accommodate the request."
Pyrrha gave a slight sigh. It wasn't in her nature to ignore being asked for help. "Alright Headmaster, send the coordinates and call our pilot to Rendezvous with at this location.
"Actually these coordinates are only a few miles from where your team currently is. Your new plan of action will be to make it to the destination on foot and once you have found the researcher and anyone else in his team, mark an extraction point for a Bullhead to retrieve you."
Pyrrha's scroll chimed as it received the coordinates from the Headmaster.
After a few moments of mapping out a few routes she answered. "If we were to disregard cautions for speed, we could get there in roughly 30 minutes, however I would not force my team to take this course of action unless the situation was dire. The terrain is not favorable."
She could hear the Headmaster drum his fingers on his desk, "In a normal situation, I would rather you get there safely instead of rushing, unfortunately this is an instance where time is of the essence."
They were interrupted by another loud "FORE!" From Nora as she golf club whacked another spinning Boarbatusk, this time into a tree nowhere near, it impacted the tree so hard that the Grimm exploded into black ash, causing it to fall over.
Pyrrha tried to ignore the chaos behind her, "In this instance Headmaster, I think we will have to come to a compromise with speed and caution,"
However, chaos was extremely difficult to ignore.
"What did I say about being reckless Nora!" Orion shouted angrily.
"I was aiming for that tree Orion!" Nora shouted back, "And that was to prove that I am The Great Lumberjack who don't need no axe!"
As the fascinating argument continued Ozpin's voice brought Pyrrha's attention back to her scroll.
"The final decision on how you reach the destination is ultimately up to you. I thank you Ms. Nikos and I have the utmost faith in your team. Happy Hunting."
He hung up the call, and Pyrrha's scroll immediately chimed as it received another file from the Headmaster.
She took note of the name of the file and scroll through a few of images provided; her first question which she absentmindedly stated out loud was; "What is Weyland-Arc-Arc?"
Ozpin ended the call and turned to face the silhouette on the screen behind his desk. "It is done, as of this moment I have a team enroute to the location assigned tasked with a search and rescue mission specifically for your researcher. They are not one to ask needless questions so once they are clear from the facility we can use their assessment to react with appropriate measures."
"Thank you Octavious, that is very good news, the researcher has access to vital information from the facility about the ongoing projects. He is also the son of a family friend of mine, so I would like to stress the importance of him being brought back alive."
"I believe that do know the young man, his forged application was second to none that even fooled Glynda, but due to his family's connections to you I chose to reject his application. But I would not worry, I know this team, they will do everything in their power to bring him back."
The answer seemed to satisfy the silhouetted man. Several happy chime rings from Ozpin's desk terminal, echoing louder than the ticking of the gears. Ozpin looked very pleased as the notification bell for donation bar skyrocketed by $1.5 million lien.
"Well looks like Beacon is going to be able to serve its special steaks for two dinners next month, and start construction on a Grimm observatory arena." The white haired headmaster joked.
Although the man's face was hidden, Ozpin knew the businessman was smiling. "We here at Weyland-Arc-Arc understand the dangers of huntsmen being sent into a mission with limited information and under equipped. I hope that this donation can be used to heighten Beacon's, shall we say, information network… for better preparedness."
Ozpin gave a sly smile back, "Beacon Academy always appreciates any donation that can be given in support of equipping the new generation of huntsmen. Now, Mr. Brahman, I believe that you stated before that your company could engineer a weapon against the grimm while creating a minimal risk to human life? And the insinuation includes faunus as well."
"Why of course," the silky voice of Krishna Brahman answered, even though he was 'meeting' the headmaster of a Huntsman academy, and they each knew each other's name, his silhouette was blacked out. "I would love to talk more about this with you in depth once we have the information from the facility. I believe I should wish you a good day now, Headmaster."
"Just one more question, if you could accommodate my curiosity."
"I still have a few more minutes spare so I will indulge you so long as you don't ask anything too 'intrusive'."
"How did you know that these two student teams wouldn't ask questions if I asked them to extend their mission?" He could practically feel the smile on the man's hidden face.
"That is quite a simple answer…"

After looking over the summary of the mission briefing, The Champion calls out to the others which stops their arguing.
Once they gather around, she explains the call from the Headmaster and the unusual mission extension request that they had accepted.
Orion was the first to speak up, "I knew it, I told you that Pyrrha was special enough that the Headmaster would choose her for missions no other student team could handle.
Pyrrha's right eyebrow twitched and she suppressed a grimace. But Ren beat her to the response and his voice sounding tense.
"Orion, the Headmaster stated that we are the only Free team that can respond in a timely manner. If RWBY or CFVY or RATH were the team that was free instead of us, then they would have been called instead."
The brown hair hunter pointedly chose to ignore that remark, "Although I think it's lame to waste her talent in rescuing a researcher. I would rather stick around here and wait for more better. I mean, he's probably already dead anyways." Orion
"Great Monty Oum Orion!" Nora exclaimed loudly, "You don't to decide whether or not lives are worth saving."
"But you have to agree that a researcher is probably already has got to be already dead without his security force."
Ren put a hand on Nora's shoulder, calming her down and spoke for her "We're doing this to save lives, if the headmaster didn't believe that we could get there in time to save him he wouldn't have requested this of us. In fact, he probably would call in a higher year team to clear the area for body retrieval."
"What we do always saves lives Ren, I was just hoping that we would be sent on a mission that would have more of an impact than this on."
Nora rolls her eyes, "Shut up Orion. The only reason we were asked is because we are the team that finished our mission first."
"Please just stop!" Pyrrha yelled reaching the end of her patience. Her voice was firm, telling them not to question her, "We have a mission to accomplish and if we are fighting among ourselves not only will we attract Grimm, but also delay our arrival in assisting the persons we are trying to help who may be in peril! Now check the map, I have highlighted a route for us to travel on to the coordinates."
With the arguments now ended, they checked the coordinates on the map, but Ren noticed something quite strange. "This square area on the map is blacked out, that is only done for military bases and huntsman academies. It is even which are always right next of populated cities, not out here in the middle of nowhere."
Orion, "It probably is an old ruin that hasn't been explored by and is unstable. That would be a good place for a desperate group to go to escape from Grimm. It would also make sense to blackout testing grounds for weapons they don't want the public to see."
Nora bobbed up and down excitedly, "Maybe they were searching for a vault to an ancient artifact left behind by the gods in order to fight the true queen of the grimm and save the world! That would be awesome!"
Ren groaned, "No Nora that would not be fun at all. The continental monarchs of grimm are terrifying enough. It takes an actual regiment of Huntsman to eradicate a grimm monarch whenever they are found.
I couldn't even imagine how horrible life would become should there be a true grimm Queen to direct the movements. The monarchs themselves make areas uninhabitable due to their age and territorial nature which in the long run make them easy to find."
"Awwww, but Renny…"
Pyrrha skims through the files as her teammates are conversing sent to her. "There is a small note that states the researcher also has incomplete combat training, which is indeed interesting. It is a possibility that the team decided to give him some combat training since Weyland-Arc-Yutani constantly has them out in the Badlands. They do seem to be comfortable with him in this photograph." Pyrrha spoke absentmindedly aloud.
"Wait. Did you say that Weyland-Arc-Yutani is the company that requested this?" Orion, brightening suddenly, then let's go! We have a researcher to save!" And a reward to cash in on.
The others are a bit surprised by the sudden change in willingness by their fanboy team member. The champion was a bit flustered at the fact that she was called out on thinking aloud with her team not noticing that she wasn't intending on saying this to them.
Orion smiled thinking that it was a blush for him for having knowledge of what they were going to be involved with, but after a minute his expression grew more serious. "Now it makes sense why there is a facility so far out here. That's because it is owned by Weyland-Arc-Yutani. They are a weapons defense company experimenting in all factors from energy to organic to chemical weapons. In fact they have been weapon manufacturers and designers since forever and their corporation popularized mechashifting technology. There is no doubt that they told the VDS (Vale Defense Services) to take their facilities and places of interest off the map to protect their interests. And since they are out here, they can test any new weapons in developed in the outdoors without worry of collateral damage."
The ninja and hammer wielder were surprised at his knowledge on the subject and for the first time Pyrrha looked at her partner with interest, "You seem to be knowledgeable about them, can you tell us anything more?"
"I know a bit more, but its only really surface level information, my dad is one of the lead advisors in the VDS, so he's shared stories about defense contractors who are either interesting or show promise. Honestly you all should be thankful that they gave us the outlines of the facility to know where we are headed. But that would explain these photos entirely." Orion stated looking closer at the photographs on his scroll. "These aren't flyover scans, this is actual satellite imagery, probably taken less than an hour ago."
"Wouldn't that be too expensive for something this trivial and a frugal use of resources?"
"Yeah, seriously, aren't there only like three satellites orbiting around Remnant since we figured out that we could do that?"
"There are only three satellites in orbit that we know of, and they were put into space by Weyland-Arc-Arc, which still haven't told the world how they accomplished that. And by the technicality that space can't be owned by a Kingdom, the Kingdoms pay for their usage but they are still owned by The Company. And since they are owned by Weyland-Arc-Arc, that means they prioritize their own usage over everything else."
The use of satellite imagery and communication was more reliable than the CCT towers, however it was far more expensive so its use was limited. It had stayed that way for two decades, since Weyland-Arc-Yutani did not have an interest in putting more satellites into orbit to expand their use.
"Satellite photos are expensive especially since they are the only ones in the world with the technology capable of breaking orbit."
Weyland-Arc-Yutani had diversified in its technological development into a space program. Like most things about their company, it had been a secret until the week before the launch.
When the first satellite rocket was successfully launched, it had been a spectacle for the world.
It looked like a sleek 250 foot tall ballistic missile with two much smaller antigravity engines mounted to the side. It stood on a concrete platform along the coast of, somewhere, with a steel framed tower next to the rocket, standing just as tall.
The antigravity engines took the rocket to around 30,000 feet, near the upper limit in the atmosphere where Dust stopped working. Then the twin dust engines shut off, detached and floated back to the ground as the main rocket ignited, fire roaring from it, pushing the rocket the rest of the way into the outer atmosphere.
The fuel source of the second ignition still remained a mystery to this day. The press release from the CEO, Krishna Brahman had revealed nothing accept the nickname of the mysterious fuel source, 'Space Fuel'. He had also claimed that there was unforeseen hazards with the 'Space Fuel' and they would be disposing of it.
None of the kingdoms had dared to put pressure on Weyland-Arc-Yutani to share this because of the necessity of their company being an international weapons manufacturer, innovator and designer for their kingdoms. The influence they carried in every kingdom was similar to that of the Schnee Dust Company. The necessity of being able to supply better weapons and being able to replace an army's worth of broken and lost weapons have them great influence. But unlike the SDC, the CEO of Weyland-Arc-Yutani did not flaunt the wealth generated by his company.
"If this is actually one of their facilities, then we are lucky that they provided us with pictures of the location instead of giving us coordinates to go to."
"They asked for our help!" Nora countered. "If they didn't provide a location then we can't help them."
"They wouldn't need to because the research team probably got stuck outside the facility as a Grimm pack wandered by. If they were smart they found some cave near the facility to hunker down and fortify. It because of the researcher's nervousness, the Grimm are hanging around the area. It's probably something too dangerous in the pack for them to engage or they have too many members injured."
"Assumption aside, we should still be reading for anything." Pyrrha stated trying to make sure another argument didn't break out. However, Orion stood at attention and saluted, "Yes ma'am!"
"Suck up." Nora muttered under her breath. While Ren gave a slight nod in agreement.
The Amazon pretended to ignore her teammates and continued. "According to the reports that I received, the two youngest members of the team were part of a SEAR team, which stands for Search Evasion And Rescue, while the others are all veteran Deep Recon soldiers, with combat experience against groups such as: the White Fang, the Black Hand, several bandit groups, and were even involved in the combat against the insurrection group in Vale last year. The level experience and current weaponry should be enough to kill a Goliath. Which would have made adding a Huntsman escort be seen as an unnecessary expense."
"Obviously they were wrong about the not needing a huntsman."
His words were met with silence at that. The others just didn't know how to respond to his seemingly callousness. Orion took that as a sign to continue, "So who is the lucky one we are rescuing?"
Pyrrha took that as a signal to take back over the conversation. "The priority is a field researcher who is currently employed by Weyland-Arc-Yutani, according to the most recent reports, his most recent research puts them in grimm invested areas nearby for 'testing', however everything about what they are testing is classified. It states that he has some combat training, but not enough for him to have completed any military or huntsman training regiment."
Ren nodded in understanding, his mind now settling back into a calmer state. "It may have been members of his security team who provided him with some military training, and hopefully it is enough for him to stay alive until we can find him."
Pyrrha turned her scroll around to show the picture she had received. There were 10 men and women in the photo all striking various poses most of them smiling at the camera. Seven of them looked like soldiers who had been through plenty of combat. Grizzled scars on their faces and muscular arms visible from the lack of armor there, as well as noticeable scratches and patched holes in their chest plates and vambraces.
Each one was wearing a black chest plate and heavy shoulder plates, black vambraces, some of them had their dark grey ballistic helmets on for the picture. As a tournament fighter, Pyrrha was not familiar with the nonmechashift rifles. But to her, they didn't look like any standard issue she had ever seen.
Two of the member had visible Faunus traits, the first being a wild haired short blonde woman with a large squirrel tail. She was sitting the shoulders of a blonde man/boy, also young, about their age, whom she has striking resemblances with, waving at the camera. Right next to them was the other young male Faunus with his helmet hanging off his chest plate, with the helmet off it revealed a large pair of dog ears, which he held the tips out wide to make his ears look comically larger, which also matched the puckered face he was making. The three of them were obviously the youngest out the group of soldiers turned security.
Ren did focus on the three youngest members in the picture, "Some of the members on the team look very young. I do not think that the three in front are older than us."
"Unfortunately Ren, in this case you would be wrong. The three you are looking at are 19 and 21 years old."
As the leader of PROV is showed the photo again she zoomed in the focus on the blonde young man in the middle of the group whom the squirrel Faunus girl was sitting on, he had a big goofy smile, and his ocean blue eyes were laughing, his hands were resting on her legs to keep her balanced on his shoulders. On a passing glance, he doesn't stand out, but when you looked closer at the photo, it was clear the gear he wore wasn't armor like the others. His clothes were black to match the color theme, but he was wearing a plate carrier with many pouches on it. Another fact of note was that he was the shortest of the men but still taller than the women of the group.
"Remember this face. This is the researcher, who radioed out the SOS. He was unable to give further information on his status before the line went silent, so there is a chance that there are members of his security team who are alive. I will send you all the picture so you will know who to look for."
Overall, he looked rather handsome… and he was obviously quite comfortable, even happy in the presence of his heavily armed security detail.
Nora twirled Magnahild around as they started on their way. "So what's his name? That might help a little when we get there."
"His name is Jaune Arc."

AU-
I noticed that this crossover is one that has been rarely done, so I thought I would write a chapter and how well these worlds could be fused for a crossover, and I think I could write this story. What I would want to do is take the RWBY storyline away from canon, which means I will not have Salem or an immortal Ozpin conflict. I think it might be better to not have to always focus on Salem as the main antagonist/final evil for every RWBY story now that we know about her (since Volume 4). So I am going to have some different villains even though the canon ones may make an appearance.
Also Merry Christmas aka Merry Dustmas in the RWBY world.
