Hanging On The Edge-Ch 7
The next morning Penelope woke up feeling pretty good, well other than the slight headache and throb to her foot, she opened her eyes and smiled when she saw JJ and Emily sitting there beside her bed. Emily said, "goooooo morning PG, how are you feeling today?", she moved around in the bed and said, "I'm good, well other than a headache and my foot is throbbing but that's to be expected with it broken and all".
JJ said, "we know that hospital food sucks so we brought you some double chocolate chip muffins and some coffee and yessssss we asked Karen if it was alright before we did it and she said that since everything went good last night that it was fine". Penelope took one of the muffins out and said, "ohhhh this smells heavenly" and then she took a bite and closed her eyes and moaned in appreciation.
Emily laughed and said, "they are good aren't they, me and Jayje already had ours while we were waiting on you to wake up", Penelope nodded her head and then raised the cup to get a sip of coffee. When she put the cup back down she said, "I don't really remember much that happened last night, sooooo did I do or say anything that wasn't appropriate?", the girls looked at each other and then JJ said, "wellll you were pretty out of it from the pain meds".
Penelope said, "ohhhhh green garters what did I do?", Emily said, "welllll first you started singing I can't get no satisfaction", Penelope's eyes got big and she said, "no I didn't, please tell me that I didn't". JJ said, "and you and Derek spouted out pet names for each other and", Penelope raised her hand and said, "waittttttt, Derek, was he here last night?" causing both JJ and Emily to nod their heads yes.
She laid her head back and said, "please tell me that he didn't see me that way", JJ laughed and said, "can't go it Garcie cause he did", she covered her face with her hands and said, "I just want the ground to swallow me whole". Emily put her hand on Penelope's and said ,"that's not all you did PG", Penelope said, "I don't think I can handle hearing about anything else" and JJ said, "welllllll you really need to hear this".
Penelope laid there listening as JJ said, "before you fell asleep you sang Don'tcha", she blushed and said, "oh my lanta, I am so so sorry, you have no idea how much it bothers me to know that I did that last night, I am so so sorry girlies". Emily said, "it wasn't your fault, it was the pain meds and we all and by all I am including Derek in that, we all know that it wasn't your fault".
She sighed and then quietly ate her muffin for the next few minutes before asking about her accident, JJ and Emily spent a few minutes filling her in on what Derek and the others had found when they checked out her car, she couldn't believe that he found a tracker on her car. JJ and Emily were telling her that they were feeling the same way when they heard a knock on the door/
JJ, Emily and Penelope turned to see Reid and Karen standing in the door, Penelope said, "come in, come in", Karen walked over and introduced herself to Penelope and explained that she had a concussion and that her foot was indeed broken. Everybody listened as Karen gave her instructions about not to walk on her foot for at least 4 to 5 weeks and she told her that her cast would need to stay on at least 8 to 10 weeks but if she had any problems she could contact her or come to the ER for treatment.
Reid said, "so this means that she can go home, right?", Karen nodded her head and said, "yes and by home I don't mean going back to work, I mean for her to go home and rest", JJ said, "she lives in an upstairs apartment, what do we do about that?", Karen thought for a minute and then said, "is their anybody that she can stay with for a while because she doesn't need to be up walking on that foot".
Reid said, "she can stay with us", Emily smiled and said ,"or she can stay with us, we both have bedrooms downstairs and it would be a lot easier on her", Karen said, "that sounds good, I've already written you a script for the pain medication and here is a script for a wheel chair an crutches". Penelope took them and said ,"so I have to use the wheelchair for at least a month, right before I can start using the crutches?", Karen nodded her head and said, "that is correct".
Karen then handed Penelope her release papers and said, "remember Penelope, if you have any problems don'e hesitate to let me know", Penelope nodded her head and said, "will do and thanks again Karen for everything that you'e done for me". Karen smiled and said, "you are more than welcome", she then turned around and walked out into the hall leaving Penelope and her friends alone so that she could get her clothes changed and head to her temporary home for the next several weeks.
