The suddenness of the croaking voice behind her made her spin around with a gasp, her left hand flew to press against her chest whilst her heart was beating painfully fast.

"My God, Edward!" She gasped out, "You scared me." She whispered the last few words as his words finally registered in her mind, her brows furrowed as she stared at his appearance in front of her.

"What-" She started as she fully took him in. His eyes were black, his shirt was dirty, stains of dried up blood and dirt splattered against the bright crumpled white. His shoes had marks on them like he had been running around the forest without looking where he was going. "You haven't changed your clothes." She said softly, worrying the more she looked at him.

Her voice was calm even though there was a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions rushing through her mind and body. Those few words he had muttered just seconds before kept rushing through her mind on repeat. She waited for him to say something, anything. But he just looked at her with cold, defeated eyes. Something she wasn't used to coming from Edward.

"Edward." She said after a deep, but shaky breath. "Where is everyone." She looked around her, at the empty space that was once the closest thing to her home. "Where is everything?"

"Bella." He started, his voice still rough. "We're leaving."

She wanted to huff at him, "You already said that." She took a few shallow breaths, her chest heaving as the reality of the situation started to become clearer and clearer.

"Why-"

"What-"

"I don't-"

"I can't-"

"I don't understand what's happening." She said again, but now at him. The the panicky feeling inside her chest started to swirl around like a whirlwind, she felt like something was stealing her breath and leaving behind an aching, sharp feeling. "I thought everything was fine?"

"It's not." He answered curtly, regret seeping through his eyes at his tone. "It's not." He said again, but softer.

"What's not fine?" She said a little harsher than she had ever done. "Is it something I did? Because, I could change. That's what a relationship is about and I know that we're both young, but-"

"I'm not young, Bella."

"I know that, but-" She didn't know how to finish her sentence as she looked at his face. He looked like a blank canvas, so unlike she was used to. He almost looked like a different person.

She frowned as she looked at him, he was holding the keys to the house and a letter in a thick, white envelope. The air that was still in her lungs escaped through her lips. "Were you going to leave, without saying goodbye to me?"

The blank canvas that was his face almost showed a hint of sheepishness and apology before returning to its blank state. "I thought it might have been easier for you that way."

"Easier?" She said through her teeth as her eyes started stinging. "Edward," she said again as she tried to compose herself, "That's really not okay."

"I-"

"Why are you leaving?" She asked again.

He breathed out and looked at his feet, "It's time for us to move on."

"But the school year has just started." She replied.

"We can start over somewhere else if we want to."

"What did I do? Was it the accident because I can promise to be more careful in the future." She said as desperation filled her eyes.

"We have no future, Bella." He said, his voice just slightly louder than before making Bella take a step back to look at him.

"But I love you." She said softly as a first tear dropped from her eye. As if those few words would magically make everything else disappear.

"We can't have a future." He said stoically, looking at the single tear that made its way down her face, her cheeks were flushed whilst the rest of her face looked almost deadly pale.

"So," she started shakily, "I take it then that you don't love me." Her voice broke on the final word of her sentence, more tears streaming down her face.

He looked away, looking anywhere but her face before squaring his shoulders. He took a few calculated steps towards the front door, leaving Bella standing by herself in the middle of the empty living room. The dark grey clouds had rolled in above the house unexpectedly and light drops were making an almost calming noise against the big windows of the empty house. The brush of his scent that wafted into her direction made Bella's heart flinch and contract painfully as the seriousness of the situation printed itself into her brain.

"I'm so sorry." He whispered with an almost broke voice, just loud enough for her to hear behind her. She was in the middle of turning around to face him when a gust of wind made her hair move around her.

"No!" She exclaimed loudly, running towards the front door and down the steps. The light rain didn't bother her as her heart thudded away painfully in her chest, she looked around in panic as the light drizzle of rain turned into thicker drops, soaking her hair and clothes.

"Edward please!" She shouted, "Please!" Her shouts turned into painful sobs. She didn't know how long she just stood there, it was like she had lost what time felt like. All she knew was that she stood there frozen and that she was soaking wet now. She kept whimpering the same words over and over again.

"I just want to see you one last time." She whimpered as drops of rain dripped from her nose onto her chest. She had to keep blinking to keep the rain out of her eyes, they were dripping down from her hair into her eyebrows. The warm tears were mixing together with the cold rain on her cheeks. She made slow circles, looking at any sign to see the direction he had gone when she finally noticed a white colour sticking out from some plants a few feet ahead of her. The letter. She instantly rushed towards the spot, stepping over a few larger plants and fallen branches. She hissed as she cut the side of her hand on something, she didn't care what it was.

She crashed onto her knees, not caring how they would probably be black and blue tomorrow, her hands were shaking and her vision was blurry due to the tears and heavy rain. "No, no, no." She kept repeating over and over again as she tried to pick up the letter, but the paper was so drenched that she could barely open the envelope. The black ink that filled the paper had turned into big black spots on the paper. She could only make out a few words, but even they were slowly starting to disappear in front of her eyes.

Bell - m sorry- love- do this - dby- dward-

"No, please." She whimpered again as a shiver went through her body. She tried to stuff the soaked letter into the pocket of her jacket, but she felt some of it rip as she stuffed it into her pocket. She took the slippery zipper of her jacket between her numb, red fingers and slowly pulled it up. Trying desperately to save whatever was left of the letter.

She looked behind her, she had just about entered the forest by a few feet. Amazed at how she had been able to actually see the letter she turned to look into the forest, it looked dark and uninviting because of the dark grey clouds covering it, not letting through much light for her to see. She raised her head with determination and took deep breaths before running into the forest. She didn't know how long she had been standing there, but she felt the need to try and find something, anything anyway.

She was leaning heavily against a wet tree, the rain still hadn't stopped and she was soaked through and through. Her breathing felt painful, her head light. She moved her head down to look her wet shoes. Looking around she didn't recognise anything. The forest that she had learnt to love so much looked dark and cold. As she took deep breaths she saw white clouds coming from her mouth, looking down at her shaking hands she saw how red her fingers were. It looked strange in contrast to how white her hands were. She rubbed at her nose, noticing how cold it was.

"I can't stop crying." She muttered to herself, her voice very hoarse and barely there. Her sobs had turned into hiccups, she leaned back and closed her eyes. Trying to find a steady pace to breathe again. She didn't know where she was or which direction to go to. She had been running for a while and had stopped after she crashed down onto the wet and dirty ground for the fifth time. Her entire body had been shaking as she hoisted herself up, trying to find leverage against wet, almost slimy trees. Her jacket and jeans had green marks because of the wet moss on the trees.

"Bella…" Her head snapped up, looking around with hope in her chest. Had he come back for her? Had he changed his mind? Or did he just feel guilty about her running alone through the forest? But the more she looked around the less she could see.

"How is it dark already?" She murmured to herself as she rubbed her hands over her face, she hissed as her hand hurt. Her palms were covered with brown and green smudges of whatever she had fallen onto on her journey through the forest. She noticed some stains of blood as well and nearly gagged, she tried to wipe her hands on her jeans but winced again as it stung slightly.

"Bella…" She heard the voice again and started walking in circles, trying to look as far into the dark forest as she could. His voice sounded very far away, almost like she was underwater listening to someone speak from ashore. She stumbled through the forest, not being able to see much. After a while the trees started to thin out, she tried to look up but was almost unable to because of the rain blinding her. Raising her hand to her face she almost didn't realise how much effort it took for her raise her own arm, the sky was pitch black she could faintly see the outline of the moon somewhere behind the dark clouds.

"Shit." She said breathlessly. She tried to pick up a run again but her body shuddered with pain and exhaustion. She didn't realise the world around her had been blurry and shaky until she lost her footing whilst running and crashed into the harsh and wet forest ground for the sixth time. She grunted as she tried to turn her body so she wasn't laying face first on the ground.

"I don't-" she tried to get out but she couldn't finish the sentence. Her entire body was trembling and the normally cold rain didn't feel cold against her face and body anymore. She couldn't feel the sting on her palms and her lips and nose almost felt deliciously numb. Somewhere in the back of her brain she was aware that falling asleep or losing consciousness in the middle of a cold and dark forest wasn't a very good idea, but she quickly realised that her body had different ideas when the trees above her were blurring into one big dark spot.

And so she found herself in the middle of a part of an unknown forest miles away from home, the downpour of the rain picked up but she didn't notice, she was already soaked through and through. She didn't feel the temperature dropping as her body took away her consciousness, forcing her into darkness so her body could rest.
