Chapter 3

While the group continued to work on fixing the stage and bleachers, Sonic and his friends took the time to get to know Liberty, since they hadn't met her yet, and she answered all questions they had about how Adventure City was different from Adventure Bay, what Mayor Humdinger tried to do to it, and more recently, how the Mighty Pups added the Junior Patrollers to their lineup (when necessary), and how the crystals upped the ante on their superpowers. "It's crazy," she concluded, "but in the process, Skye did manage to destroy that last meteor before it crushed our city to bits."

"So that's twice you've arrested Humdinger, then," Sonic said to Chase.

"Yes, sir; Sonic, sir," Chase replied. "I don't know why he bothered to break out of jail; he was already given a sentence of 540 years. Not to mention Mrs. Humdinger (Helga) wrote him and everybody out of the wills, and instead picked us, Adventure Bay, to be the heirs of her property and money; specifically, it goes to Mayor Goodway."

"Why did she do that?" Knuckles asked Goodway.

"She said she had nobody else to give it to because Foggy Bottom no longer exists," Goodway replied. "Why give it to a town that doesn't exist? As a result, she felt she had no choice but to give it to me, and I don't wish to keep it. The city will get the money. I don't know about the property yet."

"I don't blame her," said Tails. "What a fitting end to such an unfit family."

To get the spotlights back into position, Silver demonstrated his psychokinesis ability. Rubble then lifted himself up via a new feature Ryder added to his construction rig to verify that everything was safe and sound. "All in place," he confirmed.

"Dude; how'd you do that?" Zuma asked.

"Special effects," Silver joked, getting a laugh from everybody. "No; actually, it's my signature superpower: pyschokinesis."

"That's really creepy to me," Goodway confessed, "but I think I do understand how it helps you battle that crazy madman."

"And his dimensional counterpart. Remember, Blaze and I time travel, and so we don't have just Dr. Eggman. From where we come from, the main archenemy is Eggman Nega." Silver and Blaze then told the story of their battles with Eggman Nega.

By the time the group got the stage finished, and the bleachers were done, Chase began to sneeze. "AH-CHOO! Pardon me," he apologized. "Allergies."

"Gesundheit," Mayor Goodway replied.

"The only thing that makes you sneeze like that is kittens," Ryder added. "Now I'm getting suspicious."

"AH-CHOO!" Chase sneezed again. "I think this is going to pick up. AH-CHOO! AH-CHOO! I'm guessing...AH-CHOO! It was...AH-CHOO! Oh!"

"The Kitten Catastrophe Crew?" Rocky asked. "Or KCC for short."

"Yep. Them," Chase replied. "AH-CHOO!"

"Follow their trail, and we'll follow you," Ryder suggested, and the police pup led the group towards the beach.

"I thought they were also in prison," Amy interjected.

"They are," said Marshall, "but the authorities decided to keep them in their own cell so that Mayor Humdinger couldn't work with them again. Anything they've done to us since then is just them trying to get revenge on us, or just as a prank. And believe me, they are very glad they don't have Humdinger bossing them around anymore."

"So this is just them having a laugh?"

"Exactly."

When Chase led everybody to the spot, his allergies confirmed that the KCC was indeed there, but there was no evidence that they had sabotaged the stage. Chase's instinct led him to conclude, however, that it was them who broke the stage, because he could see the tools the cat version of Rocky had used to sabotage everything. "AH-CHOO! So...AC-HOO! It was you!" he exclaimed. "AH-CHOO!"

The kittens tried to deny it, but when the cat version of Chase began shooting yarn balls at them, out shot a piece of paper with it. Skye grabbed it and handed it to Ryder. "It looks like a performance schedule," he said, "but it has Luke Stars on it. Wait. Were you kittens doing this out of your own accord, or is Mayor Humdinger out of prison?"

The kittens didn't give any indication as to what the correct answer was, but just kept on firing their arsenal at the pups until they had ran out, at which point Chase trapped them in his net. "Luke Stars is scheduled to perform here soon, but tonight's the night it's all about Sonic," Everest commented, reading the schedule herself. "I think they had just gotten the date wrong."

"What I don't get is why they weren't attacking the stage while we were in the middle of performing," Tails silently thought to himself, "but I can't give them any ideas."

"And as Mayor of Adventure Bay," Mayor Goodway added, "I confirm that I hereby ban you kittens from ever entering our town again!"

The kittens meowed in disgust. "Oh, who am I kidding?" the mayor wept to herself. "They would never obey me anyway."

"BA-BUCK, BA-GERK!" Chickaletta clucked.

When the police from out of town arrived to pick up the kittens, they revealed that after contacting Ryder for advice on how to do it, they had secretly installed cameras in the backpacks of the kittens, which allowed them to know anything and everything that they were plotting, so that if there was a future jailbreak (which was the case here), they could prove it was the kittens. By bringing up the replay on one of their own monitors, it showed everybody how the kittens broke the stage and the bleachers. "That's a strategy," said Vector. "Just go for the bottom or foundation levels and the whole thing comes crashing down."

"And this was their way of getting payback, but they did it on the wrong day," Ryder added. "From this piece of paper we found, it looks like their real intention was to keep Luke Stars from performing. I think it was them getting payback on behalf of Mayor Humdinger." (Indeed, there was a time when Mayor Humdinger attempted to force Luke to perform in Foggy Bottom by stealing the truck driven by Al, the trucker pup, carrying some large speakers. Because Humdinger didn't know what he was doing, Al was able to contact Ryder and let him know what was happening. In the end, Luke performed for Adventure Bay and everybody, with the pups helping him, and Mayor Humdinger was forced to watch all the way from his hideout because he didn't have a ticket. Humdinger never used common sense.)

"I wouldn't be surprised," said the police officer driving the helicopter. "In any case, let's get them back to prison. There has to be a way to keep them in jail."

As the helicopter went back to the jail the kittens were in, Sonic turned to Ryder and the pups and said, "I think I speak for all of us when I say, 'Thanks a million, you guys.' I feel bad for you in some respects because the kittens keep doing this to you."

"No need to feel bad; it was our pleasure to help," Ryder replied. "Whenever a group of kittens works to ensure your performance night gets postponed or cancelled, just yelp for help!"

That night, the concert went as planned; the PAW Patrol Band absolutely rocked it as the opener, and Sonic JAM delivered a high-quality performance that couldn't be topped. After the show, Mayor Goodway tried to take a selfie with Sonic and the others, but Chickaletta got in the way, ruining the picture.
