Chapter 5: The Reception - Part 1
"I was on the phone with Zero yesterday and he's starting to have doubts about the existence of vampires and hunters," a calm and determined voice said into the phone.
- Togari, I understand that you want him to stay away from this but you know better than I that that's impossible, indefinitely Kaien commented.
He sighed and continued in a broken voice
- Zero can't stay with you much reason I asked you to bring him to the Cross Academy is because he's in danger with you.
- Yes Kaien. But I've grown fond of him, it's ...
He paused briefly and then added:
- He is my son.
His voice was calm, gentle, with a very noticeable touch of sadness.
- I understand. But there will come a day when he will find his true nature and on that day he will no longer be your beloved son but your enemy and you will have to kill him...
Suddenly, a thunderclap was heard in the distance, followed by a flash of lightning in the sky. And almost instantly there was silence between the two people and then the man on the phone broke it by saying.
- I have to hang up. I'll call you back later to tell you about my investigation into them.
- Yes," the headmaster replied instinctively.
The phone line went dead, leaving Kaien to ponder his thoughts. He held the phone to his ear for a long moment before placing it gently on the table.
The night class reception had already started and he had to get ready to go.
The topic of discussion was anything and everything, and the young boy was not interested in it, his mind was elsewhere. He still hadn't recovered from his altercation with the son of the Kuran family. And he could still feel the soft, warm kiss the latter had placed on his forehead. It was strange because it wasn't a brotherly kiss like his brother so often gave, but he couldn't put a name to it. When Kaname came into the living room Zero looked up at him, in awe of the dark haired man. His face was flushed and shaking like a leaf and it didn't escape his brother's notice.
- What's wrong? Ichiru asked his worried brother sitting next to him.
Ever since Zero came into the room he seemed anxious and Ichiru didn't like that. He also suspected that the heir of the Kuran family, Kaname, had put his brother in this state. And his suspicions were confirmed when he looked up and noticed that Kaname was staring intently at Zero. It was the first time someone other than him had been able to confuse his brother so much and he felt a pang of jealousy.
A glint of mischief crossed his mind and he grabbed his brother's arm and pulled him towards him. Zero was surprised by Ichiru's quick movement and turned to look at him in disbelief. But he was met with an almost evil smile from his brother and it scared him.
- Don't be afraid Zero I will never hurt you" he whispered calmly to reassure him.
Ichiru stroked his round cheek with his fingertips. Zero closed his eyelids at the touch and savored the feeling of well-being that came over him at the gentle caress.
- I will never hurt you," he repeated, "because I am your twin brother and I love you.
He placed his lips on Zero's as gently as silk on skin.
"Ichiru, what did I tell you about this?" the voice of the head of the Kiryu family thundered.
The man smiled and looked away from his brother's annoyed expression. He turned to his father, who was sitting in a large leather armchair between his mother and the guests. Everyone was looking at him and Ichiru liked it.
- Zero wasn't feeling well and I wanted to reassure him with a kiss.
- I can't stand to see him distressed," he finished, taking his brother in his arms.
The head of the family looked up with resignation, he turned his head towards his guests to get their attention again.
- He is very protective of his brother," he said, embarrassed at the two people.
Ichiru had tightened his grip on his brother when he noticed Kaname looking at him darkly from the kiss he gave Zero.
So this Kaname is interested in my dear and tender brother, he thought.
In the night class building, the party was in full swing. The orchestra was packed, as usual, and waiters twirled between the tables to serve the students with a smile on their faces. Finally the students of the day class had managed to approach the students of the night class. Some of them were talking shyly with the white-uniformed students, desperately hoping to get their mobile numbers.
Outside, the sky had darkened. Dark clouds were gathering over the academy buildings.
Leaning against a wall at the back of the large ballroom, Zero kept a discreet eye on all the students. He bitterly regretted coming to this event. He felt uncomfortable and had a hard time pretending to like these pretentious night class students.
Moreover, ever since he had taken his seat in the hall, he felt intense stares towards him and when he turned around he came face to face with this tall dark-haired man named "Kaname".
He had to be on his guard, he had a bad feeling about this man. When he saw Yuki coming towards him, he stopped thinking and resumed his impassive look.
- I can take over so you can enjoy the party," she said with a big smile.
She was wearing a beautiful midnight blue dress, close to the body, showing off her shoulders, her back and her cleavage. She had her hair up in a braided bun that was both simple and sophisticated.
She was wearing high heels, without which she could never have been that tall.
Zero pulled himself together when he realized he was staring at her bare neck with a hint of pleasure.
- I don't mind spending the whole evening leaning against that wall," Zero replied slightly embarrassed.
For this event he had made an effort to wear a full black velvet suit, and a muslin collar with no lace or embroidery flapped over his sturdy shoulders. His hair was neatly combed, his face bright and cheerful.
She sighed in annoyance. Then she took the silver-haired man's arm and drew him to the centre of the room for all to see.
Zero was stunned by the young woman's gesture and was unable to make any sign of protest. Now he found himself in the middle of the room not knowing what to do. He was about to turn back when a hand brushed against his shoulder and he swiveled around, surprised to find that it was the red haired man from the night class. Nevertheless, Shiki apologized for startling him. The words came out of his mouth despite Zero. "Okay, I'm not mad at you right now."
- Don't stay in your corner Zero and have fun with us said Shiki mockingly.
Zero rolled his eyes in response. He didn't want to get into trouble with him and he didn't have the mind for it.
- You don't have to be afraid of us, we're not evil. added the red-haired man, still smirking.
- I said no," the silver-haired man hissed, giving Shiki a dark look.
He walked angrily towards the buffet. He was terribly thirsty and had just finished a non-alcoholic red fruit cocktail. But it was as if nothing could quench his thirst but ... Blood. He shook his head violently. Why had he thought of that? He didn't want to drink blood and he would never want it because he had never tasted it. Now he was distraught, he was hot, terribly hot.
- It's all right, Zero Kiryu.
The man turned his head sharply to meet the pure green eyes of the vice president of the Night Class.
- Since the party started you've been so reserved and you seem upset.
The silver-haired man pulled himself together for a moment, surprised that he had been able to draw the blonde's attention to himself.
- It's all right, I'm just very hot and it's making me thirsty," he replied calmly.
- Thirsty, you say?" Takuma pointed out, arching his eyebrows. He stared intently into Zero's violet eyes in the emerging darkness.
- Yes, but with a nice cold glass of water, everything will be better and-
Zero didn't have time to finish his sentence as the blond man grabbed his arm and pulled him towards the exit. He tried to break away from Takuma's grasp, but it didn't work. Takuma's grip on him was so strong. Now, in spite of himself, the silver-haired man walked down the dark hallway of the night class academy with a hurried step. Takuma yanked the door open and pulled Zero into the room. The silver haired man fell onto the huge bed behind him, gasping for breath.
" But are you crazy? Leave me alone!" he shouted.
He was about to get up when Takuma towered over him. The blonde gently pressed his hard, muscular body against Zero's soft, supple one.
"Please look at me," the blond asked gently.
What? what does he want from me.
Zero was surprised and confused. He didn't understand what was happening to him. And he couldn't get rid of Takuma because he was so strong. Regardless of what Zero thought, Takuma put his hand on the silver haired man's forehead and a white glow appeared, causing Zero to fall into a deep sleep.
Takuma carefully got up from Zero taking care not to move him in his sleep. He pulled the duvet up over the silver haired man, took out his phone and called out a number.
- Kaname, he's resting in your room," Takuma announced, "We'll have to put the plan into action quickly.
- Alright Takuma, stay with him I'll be right there.
The blond man hung up the phone and put it in his pocket. He sat down on a chair that was next to the bed. He sighed loudly as he admired the beauty of the sleeping person on the bed. Her lips looked so soft and vulnerable and were parted above her bright white teeth. Her long silky silver hair fell over her white skin. He now understood why Master Kuran found Zero beautiful and why he was so interested in him.
Ichiru ...
Takuma frowned at the name. He looked over at Zero and saw that he was still sleeping. Did Zero remember the existence of his twin brother Ichiru? ... No, that is not possible. He snapped out of his thoughts when he heard the door open and thought it would be best for him to leave so as not to disturb them.
"You may go, Takuma, I thank you," said a deep, steady voice.
- Your wish is my command, Master Kaname.
The blond man made sure to close the door behind him.
Meanwhile, Kaname unbuttoned his fringed shirt with vampiric speed and threw it on the floor. While gazing at the sumptuous sleeper, he slowly and surely made his way to her bed.
"Where has Master Kaname gone?" Ruka asked in surprise to her Akatsuki comrade.
The latter gave his pretty friend a tight smile, not knowing what to say even though he knew where he was, but Master Kaname had forbidden him to tell Ruka and Aido for fear of raising suspicion.
- He went to his room to rest, he was tired," said Takuma who had just arrived before the two students.
- I hope he's okay.
She quickly scanned the room and noticed that Zero wasn't in the room.
- Where's the day class Guardian," she asked.
- Well, where is Zero?
This time it was Cross Academy's headmaster, Kaien, who asked the question. Elegantly dressed in a cheap suit, he had just arrived at the reception.

Zero felt a sudden coolness as hands caressed his face curiously and lightly. The fingers were not unfamiliar to him. They looked like...
He suddenly opened his eyes to see the ceiling of his room lit up by the light from outside.
What was he doing here? He wasn't supposed to be at the evening class reception. He hadn't been dreaming, he'd felt the presence of someone near him caressing him. It was beyond understanding... and what a headache he had.

"I saw Zero return to the men's day class dorm through the bedroom window ten minutes ago, if you're looking for him," Kaname commented as he approached the group of people who were wondering about the silver haired man's absence.
Kaien frowned.
"Do you have a few minutes Kaname? We need to talk very seriously.
