Hi! September came and went. As for my concentration, I haven't really been able to write much at all during this time. This little chapter you're about to read is shorter than all the others. It was supposed to be a bit longer and showing the events of the summer. But all I could do was just get this bit out. I just scrapped the rest and am sharing this little tiny bit.

I'll explain more at the bottom after you read. So without further ado, enjoy!

*NOTE/SPOILER WARNING: It takes place AFTER KHIII*

NOTE 2: Lots of retelling of the experience of "Player" in KHχ[Chi] but in Sora's View

NOTE 3: Sora is NOT Player, he's just got similar experiences. Player exists somewhere doing the main story, but they don't cross paths... I Think...

NOTE 4: A little look at the start of summer vacation.

Chapter 13: Even In Daybreak, There's Homework

.

"So Chirithy, what's on the schedule for the summer events?"

"Oh, that. I haven't looked at the letter yet," she rolled onto her back and pulled out the yellow envelope from her pouch. Without getting up, she raised her arm for Sora to grab it and read it himself. As he held it, he noticed how weighty it was and wondered what was in here. He got a letter opener from the drawer of the nightstand and gently cut it open. He was surprised to find a whole packet of papers and on top was what looked like a formal letter the read:

.

.

To All Wielders & Chirithy,

Summer vacation is drawing closer and closer and we are aware the days are getting much hotter, but that will not excuse you from preforming your normal duties. You are all still expected to meet your daily, weekly, and monthly lux quotas. But in addition, because we do not want anyone lagging behind or growing lazy over the break, we have provided you all with some extra assignments. These will be submitted to your respective union departments and completed before or by the end of the summer. If needed, summer tutors will be available in order to assist you with anything you do not understand. We not only want our wielders to be well trained in body, but also in mind.

We wish you all a happy and fun filled summer vacation and ask that you keep cool during this heated season. Enjoy this time, but do not slack in you work. All the best and remember:

"May your hearts be your guiding key."

From,

The Foretellers, Union Lux Collections & Unions' Board of Education

Sora had read the letter aloud and Chirithy realized what they were asking of the wielders this summer. "Oh, looks like you all are getting summer homework."

Sora looked a little shocked, "Homework!?"

As soon as he said that, someone came bursting into his room, it was Ellie. She looked frustrated, "Sora! Did Chirithy tell you? We have homework, on summer vacation!"

"Yeah, I just got finished reading the letter. Wait, how did you-?"

"Keyblade, of course. Anyway, why? Why!? Why give us homework of all things? We already attend classes twice a week when they're available and gather lux for the remaining days. We should have a break instead of more work!"

"As much as we have summer vacation, I kind of do think it's pretty fair."

"Fair?" Ellie whined.

"When I was traveling the worlds with my friends, there were a lot of things I didn't know about certain places. They helped me learn more about the world we were in-"

"But that's different, Sora. You were out there, learning at the different places. But here, we're stuck learning math and how to read and comprehend languages." Ellie complained. Sora could only smile as he sighed, there was no reasoning with her if she wasn't going to calm down and listen.

"Knock, knock! Sora? Are you there?" Sora walked and opened the door to see a familiar face.

"Hey there [Insert Name Here]. Did you come to complain about the homework too?"

"Umm, homework?" [Insert Name Here] turned to her Chirithy looking baffled. "Do you know about any homework Chirithy?"

[Insert Name Here]'s Chirithy thought for a moment before her eyes went wide. She fished out a letter from her little pouch, "Oh, I forgot about the letter. I meant to have you read this, but I forgot." [Insert Name Here] thanked her Chirithy and opened the letter, scanning the content. After she got done, she folded the letter up and gave it to her Chirithy to hold on to it.

"So, I guess we do have homework." Ellie ran up to [Insert Name Here], eyes ready to ball out in tears at the mention of that awful word.

"Help me, [Insert Name Here]! We're in the same class level! Let's do it together!" She froze as Ellie ran up and clutched her arm. Not sure what to do, she ended up just awkwardly patting her back to comfort her pleading friend.

Sora decided to look at his own assignment packet and noticed something interesting. These summer assignments weren't the typical book report or math packet. Okay, there was a regular math packet in here, but the other assignments were different. For the whole month of summer vacation, they were assigned to write a journal about their day and the missions they went on. That was an assignment he hadn't done since elementary school, at least there wasn't a book report attached. The last assignment was a science report, writing observations on any heartless of their choosing and writing about what they observed about the attack patterns, abilities, etc. Also, they had to include a hand drawn picture of it, as that was the art assignment portion.

When he got finished reading, he noticed the girls had been peeking at his paper from behind his back.

"Wow Sora! You got more assignments than us! Glad we aren't on your learning level!" Ellie proclaimed proudly with a hint of a teasing tone.

"You know, if you keep doing that, I won't help either of you with yours." A great comeback by Sora had Ellie immediately on her knees begging Sora and repeatedly saying 'sorry' over and over. [Insert Name Here] held her hand to her mouth trying not to laugh too hard at the sight. Never change Ellie, never change.

So yeah, this chapter takes place at the beginning of Summer Vacation. It's not to be mixed up with the summer season which I show off a little in Chapter 10, Starlight Radio. The idea came about because back in KHUx there was a whole special story mission dedicated to homework. The assignments were special missions as well as literal homework. So it made me wonder, do the unions also have schools set up for the wielders? I thought it would make sense since they would need to know how to read, write, and do a bit of basic math. So this idea for the chapter was born.

Sora mentions doing homework while on their journey, that actually took reference from my one shot, "The School House Gummi Ship" on Chapter 16 over in my other story, "A Place of Forming Ideas." So he has been doing homework while not adventuring the new world. As for Ellie at this point in the story, she has kind of been clinging to Sora and [Insert Name Here], even though she isn't apart of their team. She just likes to come and go since she found Sora a reliable older brother and considers [Insert Name Here] a best friend. As for the point in when this takes place, either the last summer before the war OR during KHUx when everyone has successfully forgotten and are finally done reliving the memories in Unchained. Again, there was going to be more, but I really couldn't figure out a way to write it in. For now, this is it.

Well, that's all I got to share for now! If you have any ideas, suggestions, questions, or any comments for this story, feel free to let me know. Thanks for reading everybody! :D
