"I'd...I'd like to testify to the court, your Honor," Penny declared nervously. "P-please…"
Everyone in the court was silent as they collectively looked at Penny in confusion.
"I'm sorry, who are you exactly?" von Karma asked, cutting the silence with her irritation-laced voice. Penny's sweat heavily rained down her forehead upon noticing von Karma reaching for her whip.
"P-Penny Nichols, ma'am!" the young girl stammered, standing up straight. "I-I'm a production assistant at Global Studios! I w-wanna help clear up this case!?"
That piqued von Karma's curiosity. "Clear up this case, you say?"
Penny nodded, steeling her nerves and clenching her sweaty palms into fists.
"Penny, what are you doing?" Celeste asked in a hushed tone. Penny glanced at her friend with a reassuring expression, as if to say 'Don't worry, I'll get you out of this'.
Iris noticed this and mentally took note of it for later.
"I want to testify to the court," Penny declared. "There's something I know that can help bring this case to light?"
"New information, eh?" the Judge said, stroking his beard. "Interesting…"
"HOLD IT!" Iris shouted, staring carefully at Penny and analyzing the nervous twitches her body did. "If you had this information beforehand, why didn't you present it to the court immediately? It would've saved us a lot of trouble, you know?"
Penny let out a tiny, nervous yelp before pondering for an answer. "I...I was kinda nervous about coming up here. I...I thought that with how this case was going, you'd find the answer and that what I saw wasn't relevant to this case."
whp-CRACK!
"EEEEPPP!" Penny yelp frightfully, ducking under the witness stand in time to avoid von Karma's whip.
"Every scrap of information is important when it comes, you foolish fool!" von Karma snapped, stamping her foot. "Not only has your foolishly foolish decision to foolishly keep your foolish mouth shut cost me an early win-!"
Iris shot at von Karma with a dumbfounded glare for that.
"But it also further complicates matters!" von Karma shouted out, raising her whip high. Penny screamed and shielded her face, but the whip didn't strike her. With a hesitant glance, she saw that von Karma was massaging the temples on her forehead. "However, there is a chance this might reveal the truth of the matter, correct?"
Penny nodded hesitantly.
"In that case, I will allow it," von Karma declared, setting her whip down.
"H-hold on!" the Judge interjected. "I'm the one who's in charge of the court proceedings here and-!"
whp-CRACK!
"EEEEK!" the Judge shrieked, cowering behind his desk. "T-That's a very good point, Ms. von Karma! I shall allow this!"
Iris sighed in irritation before glancing at Furio Tigre's face and noticing the absolutely stunned expression on his face. Analyzing the direction to where he's looking, she noticed he was staring directly at Penny Nichols. Iris raised her brow at this curiously.
"S-should I testify now, Your Honor?" Penny asked.
"Not yet," von Karma answered. "First, we must have a 20-minute recess so that I can prepare you."
"S-She was asking me-" the Judge tried to protest feebly.
whp-CRACK!
"EEEEEK! Yes, yes, of course! This court shall have a 20-minute recess! Let us reconvene after that time!"
After a swift pound of his gavel, the Judge immediately stood up from his desk and ran off for his dear life. Von Karma let out a cruel chuckle, amused by the Judge constantly tripping from his own robes, before wrapping her arm around Penny and placing her hand on her shoulder.
"Let's talk," she said, directing Penny to one of the defendant lobbies.

District Court~ Defendant Lobby No. 3
"Well, this is just great…" Iris grumbled to herself, massaging her forehead due to the headache she just got. "This is just what we need. Another witness to complicate things…"
I...I don't think it will be a problem…" Viola said. "Penny's a really nice girl. I've been with her for a good while now…"
"Yeah, but she has a clear motive to testify against you," Iris said. "To most people, you killed her childhood hero. She went on and on about how much she loved the Steel Samurai and considering how close she is to Ms. Starr, it's likely that she only came forward to save her, at the cost of locking you up."
Viola frowned, pondering her lawyer's words. "W-would she really…?"
Iris sighed. "When people are desperate enough, they'll do anything…"
"Desperate enough, huh…?" Furio muttered to himself, lost in his own thoughts.
"S-so what do you think we should do…?" Viola asked.
"Right now, prepare for Ms. Nichols' testimony," Iris said. "She'll try to convict you, but we'll need to find some way to turn it around to herself. Tell me, do you know anything about Ms. Nichols that might help your case?"
Viola pondered for a moment. "Well...I forgot to have mentioned this, but she was the second person to have found out about my secret…"
Furio snapped out of his own thoughts and turned to Viola with interest.
Iris raised a brow at this. "Really now? And why didn't you tell me this sooner?" she asked sternly, crossing her arms.
Viola raised her hands slightly to her chest in defense. "I-I didn't think it'd be important...hee...hee...hee…"
"Well, it's important now and we don't have much time," Iris retorted, to which Viola sighed.
"Okay, okay…" Viola took a deep breath before telling Iris, Pearl, and Furio more of her past.
. . .
Several months ago…
The day Penny found out about my true identity was the same day Don Powers looked into my past and talked to me about it. I was in my dressing room, practicing the lines for the latest episode of Crystal Crusader Rose at that time.
That was when Don Powers knocked on my trailer. "Can I come in?"
I let him in. "Oh, hello, sir…hee...hee...hee…" I said with a small smile. "What can I do for you?"
He gave me a strange, uncomfortable look. "Um, listen we need to talk…"
"O-oh, I see… it's about my acting, please tell me what I did wrong and-"
"N-no, no, it's not that, you're acting is great, Violet," he assured me before scratching his head, glancing away from my direction. "It's just that...well, the thing is…"
He then sighed before turning to me with a frown. "I know, Viola."
I could feel my blood run cold as I froze upon hearing my real name.
"That's who you really are right?" he asked. I was still too shocked to answer. "Can you explain?"
"Ex...plain…" I whispered out, breathing heavily as panic overwhelmed me.
"Violet…"
"Ex...plain…!" I whispered out, crying profusely and hyperventilating.
"Violet…" he said again, worried for me as I kept panicking. "Hey, Violet!"
He suddenly grabbed me by the shoulders to keep me still. He held them tightly as I took a good look at the concern on his face.
"I'm not gonna hurt you, Violet," he said, the tone of his voice surprisingly gentle. "I just want to know what's going on with you. So please…"
Don Powers gently let my shoulders go and moved me to a nearby chair to sit down.
"Tell me the truth," he requested. "Who are you really?"
I paused in a moment of hesitation, pondering whether or not to tell him the truth. After thinking about it, I decided to risk it and tell Don Powers everything. Who I really was, who my family really is, why I ran away and changed my name, everything.
As I kept speaking, I was always cautious about the look of shock that he gave me as I went further into detail about my past. Once I was finished, he was…eerily silent. For a moment, I was afraid that he would be mad at me for hiding my true identity from him, or that he'd call the police on me. Then he stood up, looming over my short fragile body. He walked up to me and wrapped his arms around me to give me a big hug.
"Don't worry," he assured me. "What you went through was really hard. Your secret's safe with me."
I could barely contain my relief that day, as I broke down in tears, hugging the man back.
"WHAT!?" our moment was interrupted by the sound of a shrill cry. Checking outside, we were surprised to find Penny Nichols' near the door of my dressing room, a script clenched in her hand.
. . .
"Wait, so the girl was there and she heard youse secret!?" Furio suddenly piped up, slightly pushing Iris aside.
Viola nodded. "She was only looking for Don Powers to hand over an edited script...we didn't expect her to be there that night."
"H-how did Ms. Penny feel about your true identity?" Pearl suddenly asked.
"Yes, what was her reaction to it?" Iris added. "Any expressions or body language that you can remember?"
Viola pondered for a short moment. "Well, she was shocked, to say the least. She went silent for a moment before Don Powers asked her to keep my identity a secret. All she did was stare at me for a while before agreeing…hee...hee...hee…"
Iris rubbed her chin in thought. "Could it be…?"
Knowing her older sister, Pearl gasped at what she knew Iris was thinking. "B-big Sis, you don't think that Ms. Nichols…!?"
"I'm not jumping to conclusions, Pearl," Iris answered. "It is a possibility though."
Viola tilted her head. "What's a possibility-" Viola's eyes widened for a brief moment before glaring at Iris. "No. No, you're wrong…"
Iris sighed. "I'm only trying to analyze the possible theories regarding Ms. Nichols' role in the case, Ms. Viola," she tried to assure her client. "Please understand."
"Yes, but I'm not going to let you accuse my coworker…!" Viola shouted hoarsely. "And besides, Penny loved Don Powers! There's no way she'd kill him…!"
"Unless she wasn't trying to kill him…" Furio muttered to himself, which was heard by everyone in the room.
"What?" Iris, Pearl, and Viola asked in unison.
Shit, Furio cursed internally. "N-nothin'! Nothin' at all!"
Iris opened her mouth to respond, only to gasp, feeling a familiar warmth emanating from her magatama, as chains rose from the ground and made their way between her and Furio. Four red Psych Locks instantly appeared to lock the chains in place.
Iris groaned. Seriously? NOW!?
"Mr. Tigre, I can tell that you're keeping something from us," Iris said bluntly, crossing her arms and giving the tiger man a stern glare.
Furio gritting her. "I-I got no idea what youse talkin' about! Don't youse go accusin' others just cuz yer a crappy lawyer!"
Iris' eye twitched and she flashed a faux smirk. "If I don't have any idea on what I'm doing, then why are you so worked up?"
"I...err…"
"Iris, what are you doing…?" Viola demanded, concerned for her dear friend. She was about to interfere with this situation, only to be stopped when Pearl tugged at her dress.
"Just let my sister do this," Pearl insisted.
"But Don Tigre-"
"Will be fine. Just trust us on this."
After a moment of hesitation, Viola relented and continued to watch the scene.
"Hmm…" Iris hummed for a moment before snapping her fingers. "You know about Ms. Nichols, don't you?"
"What makes youse think I know anything 'bout that brat, huh?!" Furio shouted leaning closer to growl at Iris' face.
Normally, Iris would've been intimidated by the maliciousness Furio displayed, but time was of the essence and she needed to get answers fast. "Well, your reaction to seeing her in court certainly counts for something."
Furio tsk-ed at that and stood up straight. Iris' faux smile grew wider when she saw the first Psych Lock break.
"There's no use denying it, Mr. Tigre," Iris said. "You know Ms. Nichols."
"S-so what if I do, huh?" Furio snarled, putting his hands in his pockets. "I may have run into that chick once or twice, what's it to youse?"
"It may or may not save Ms. Viola's life, Mr. Tigre," Iris retorted, stoic and unmoved. "Now, I would like for you to be honest and tell me how you know Ms. Nichols."
Furio hesitated for a moment and let out a huff that clearly meant no.
Iris sighed. "Do you really have to make this difficult? Considering everything we have at stake!?"
"Don Tigre, what's going on?" Viola asked innocently, tilting her head.
Furio turned to Viola, sweating nervously. "W-well, youse see...um...um…!"
Furio's sweat dropped down like a waterfall as he felt back to the wall, the stern lawyer glaring at him with judgmental eyes.
Furio didn't want to confess this. He really didn't. He had hoped that if he just showed up to court and gave details on the Cadaverinis, he would've gotten sweet Viola out of the situation she was in…
But then that girl had to show up.
Was it karma? Was it some invisible force that had it in for him ever since that horrible day? Please, don't let it be the case. He had already made it. Despite all the odds, he had helped Viola and started a new life for himself! He has his restaurant, he has a new name, he was finally free from that Cadaverini crime nightmare he was stuck in for so long! No matter how much he wanted to help, he can't bring himself to confess now. Even if it is for-!
"Don Tigre…?"
Furio paused and gazed into Viola's sweet, innocent, and concerned eyes. The eyes of the creepy, but kind angel that saw passed his intimidating feature and somehow, managed to bring the best out of the ferocious thug.
"Well, Mr. Tigre," Iris said, her glare still strong. "We're waiting."
Furio sighed in defeat as the three remaining Psyche Locks broke instantly, shocking Iris.
"Alright, I'll tell youse everything…" he said, resigned to whatever fate he knew was in store for him. He knew his sins were going to catch up to him someday...so he might as well go out saving someone he loved.

July 8, 12:00 PM
District Court~ Courtroom No. 4
"The court will now reconvene," the Judge announced before turning to von Karma. "Ms. von Karma, have you gotten a testimony out of our new witness?"
Von Karma beamed, smiling smugly. "Did you have to ask, Your Honor? I've got a testimony from Ms. Penny Nichols that will result in my decisive victory against Ms. Iris Hawthorne!"
"Oh my god, are you still on that?" Iris muttered from her side of the courtroom. "It was just one loss. Let go already, you pompous prude…"
whp-CRACK!
"WHOA!" Iris managed to dodge in time to glare at von Karma, who glared back with double the intensity.
"Order! Order!" the Judge intervened, pounding his gavel. "H-hold on, you two! Ms. von Karma, will you please send in the new witness?!"
"With pleasure," von Karma said, gritting her teeth. "The prosecution calls Ms. Penny Nichols to the stand!"
With that, Penny immediately sprinted to the witness stand, trembling as she felt everyone in the courtroom staring at her.
"Now, witness…" von Karma raised her whip and struck her desk before posing dramatically. "State your name and occupation!"
"P-Penny Nichols!" Penny quickly said, fearing von Karma's whip. "I'm a production assistant at Global Studios!"
"Good! You wanted to say something in regards to this case," von Karma began. "Tell me, were you at the scene of the crime?"
Penny shook her head. "N-no, I wasn't," she admitted, sighing. "Well, I wasn't there at the time of the murder, to be precise…"
Iris raised a brow at that. "What do you mean by that?"
Penny wiped the sweat off from her brow and took a deep breath. "Okay...here goes."
TESTIMONY
"About an hour before the murder happened, I was at the Winter Cloud Building to help set up some props for a scene."
"Once I was done setting up some props, I went out for a while to take my break."
"There was a secret passage that I usually take to get a shortcut to the breakroom, so I took a golf cart and drove there."
"To my surprise, I saw the Cadaverini rushing past me while I drove."
"It was around 4:35 PM that I saw her rush to the Winter Cloud Building."
The people in the gallery began to discuss loudly amongst themselves about what Penny had said.
"Order! Order!" the Judge said, pounding his gavel to silence them. "So you're saying that Ms. Cadaverini was the culprit!? But I thought the prosecution said it was Ms. Starr!"
"It's surprising to myself as well, Your Honor," von Karma said, crossing her arms. "But after discussing it with the witness, I've come to agree that it is possible that Ms. Viola Cadaverini could indeed be the true culprit."
"Y-yeah! T-the Cadaverini is trying to fool you into making it look like Celeste did it!" Penny accused, furiously jabbing her finger at Viola, who clearly looked hurt from the accusation.
"P-Penny, why…?" Viola whispered, tears streaming from her eyes. "I-I thought we were…"
"Friends?!" Penny scoffed. "As if! I had you pegged for a monster the moment I found out who you really are! And now the world's going to see it too!"
It took all of Viola's self-control to not break down and cry at what Penny had said, but Iris, Pearl, and Furio can clearly see her lips quivering and her tears streaming down her face. When the poor girl could no longer contain her sorrow, she began to weep snarled at this, and turned to glare at Penny.
"Why I oughta-!" he began but Iris pressed her hand against his chest.
"No, not now," the rookie lawyer said. "You'll have to wait until we can get you to testify."
Furio wanted to protest, but he knew that Iris was right. Biting his anger down, he relented and stood quietly, waiting for the right time to strike.
"Ms. Nichols' testimony is certainly interesting, but I feel like there's more to this case than it seems," the Judge said before glancing at Iris. "Ms. Hawthorne, you may now cross-examine the witness."
Iris took a deep breath. Here we go.
CROSS-EXAMINATION
"About an hour before the murder happened, I was at the Winter Cloud Building to help set up some props for a scene."
"HOLD IT! You were at the crime scene and you didn't even try to report it to the police!?"
"I-It was an h-hour before the crime happened!" Penny stuttered nervously. "I didn't think anything would happen until now..."
"It's fine, you're already testifying now, Ms. Penny Nichols," von Karma said. "Continue with your testimony."
"Once I was done setting up some props, I went out for a while to take my break."
"There was a secret passage that I usually take to get a shortcut to the breakroom, so I took a golf cart and drove there."
"HOLD IT! Secret Passage?"
Penny nodded. "Yeah...it's a big hole in the wall that'll take you straight to the Studio Employee Area."
"There wasn't any hole in the Employee..." Iris's voiced trailed off when she remembered an important detail.
. . .
"Aaaah...!" Pearl squeed in utter delight as she pointed at a costume on display. "Look, Big Sis! It's the Mesmer Witch from the first episode!"
Pearl gasped as she turned her head and pointed at the backdrop leaning against the concrete wall. "And a painting Olde Neo Toyko! It looks so real!"
. . .
Iris blinked for a moment, then sighed. "The painting leaning against the wall..."
"Yup," Penny said. "Most of our budget goes to the production of our shows, so when a truck crashed into our wall, we just decided to cover it with an old backdrop from a Crystal Crusader episode. It made for a good shortcut, so sometimes we use it to get to other Winter Cloud Building faster."
"To my surprise, I saw the Cadaverini rushing past me while I drove."
"HOLD IT! Did you saw the defendant rush past you? Need I remind you that Ms. Viola has a sprained ankle and a head injury that prevents her from overexerting her body. How on earth could she even run to the Winter Cloud Building?!"
Penny's sweat dripped down her brow rapidly as her eyes shifted around, trying to think of something. "I...uh...um..."
"OBJECTION!" von Karma retorted. "Simple. Like Ms. Penny Nichols, the defendant used one of the golf carts to quickly transport herself to the Winter Cloud Building. Isn't that correct, Ms. Viola Cadaverini?"
Viola was surprised to see the pompous prosecutor locking eyes on her. "Y-yes...hee...hee...hee..." Viola admitted. "I used the shortcut to get to the Winter Cloud Building faster since I was late. I didn't see Penny while I was rushing there, but maybe I didn't notice her..."
"Since you were late...didn't notice her..." Iris mumbled, thinking for a moment before snapping her fingers. That's it!
"It was around 4:35 PM that I saw her rush to the Winter Cloud Building."
"OBJECTION! You must have a problem with time, Ms. Nichols because there is a clear hole with your testimony!"
Penny shrieked frightfully in response.
"HOLD IT!" von Karma shouted. "Whatever do you mean, Ms. Iris Hawthorne!?"
"Simple," Iris began. "According to the defendant, she woke up at 5:00 PM, rushed to the Winter Cloud Building, and was arrested there on the spot! By the time it was 4:35 PM, she was still sleeping before the time of the murder!"
"Exactly," von Karma nodded in agreement, earning incredulous looks from Iris, Penny, Pearl, and everyone else in the court. "What? Just because I want to win doesn't mean I won't acknowledge that Ms. Penny Nichols' testimony was foolishly filled with foolish holes."
"Foolish holes...?!" Penny parroted in surprise. "I...I thought you believed me!?"
"I did, and I was willing to hear you out," von Karma said, "but when I heard more of your testimony, the more I realized that it's nothing more than shoddily made fabrications."
"Fabrications?" the Judge asked. "You mean that Ms. Nichols-?"
"Simply made up her testimony, Your Honor," von Karma nodded. "And it makes sense too. After all, you and Ms. Celeste Starr are incredibly close. It's only natural for a friend to save another friend, but what you did is a serious offense, Ms. Penny Nichols..."
whp-CRACK!
"AAAAAAGGHHH!" Penny shrieked in pain as the force of the whip sent her tumbling to the floor.
"Penny!" Celeste called out before glaring at von Karma.
"Oh, spare me the dirty look," von Karma said. "It was her own fault for trying something so foolish. Trying to defend you, but justice isn't so keen on letting you get away..."
Celeste paled at the implications of von Karma's words. "But...but I...!"
"Save your protests, I have you cornered," von Karma grinned smugly. "You have the likely motive, you have the biggest grudge against the defendant, and you were alone at the crime scene at the time of the murder! Face it, Ms. Celeste L. Starr..."
Von Karma jabbed her finger at Celeste's direction with such intensity that it created a strong gust that pushed the actress back. "You're the true culprit of this case!"
Celeste opened her mouth to try and say something but was too paralyzed by fear.
"Please...no..." Penny pleaded tearfully.
"Hmm, the prosecution does have a point," the Judge said, stroking his beard. "All signs do point to Ms. Starr as the culprit. What does the defense say about this?"
Iris turned to her sister, then to Viola, and then to Tigre, all of them sharing an uncertain expression. "I...we agree with Ms. von Karma in that our client isn't the killer...but we don't think that Ms. Starr is responsible for Mr. Powers' death."
Von Karma scoffed. "Are you stupid, you foolish fool!? Ms. Celeste L. Starr did it! What, you suddenly want your own client in jail now!?"
"This isn't about that!" Iris protested, slamming her palms onto her desk. "This is about trying to find the truth! And you accusing Ms. Starr won't accomplish that!"
Von Karma laughed haughtily in response. "Then what can you do to prove me wrong!? As far as I'm concerned, I did your job for you, Ms. Iris Hawthorne! Me! I solved this case! I figured out all of the clues! Unless some divine miracle comes in to save you, my victory is assured-!"
"I DID IT!" Penny screamed at the top of her lungs, rupturing the eardrums of almost everyone in court.
Von Karma coughed. "W-what!?"
"I-It was me! I-I did it!" Penny shouted. "I...I killed Will Powers!"
A collective gasp was let out as Penny broke down and sobbed uncontrollably.
"I...I didn't mean to-I-it shouldn't have happened! I-I just wanted to get back at-NO NO NO!" from there, Penny couldn't form any coherent words, slipping into complete gibberish as she wept.
Celeste could only look at her best friend in shock. "Penny...why-?"
"OBJECTION!" von Karma shouted. "Ridiculous! Utterly ridiculous! Not only are you trying to defend Ms. Celeste Starr again, but you have the audacity to pin the crime onto yourself!?"
"But I really did it!" Penny tearfully shouted. "P-please! Don't let Celeste pay for my crimes-!"
whp-CRACK!
"AAaaaaArrrgh!"
"Enough of this foolishness! This case is over!"
"HOLD IT!" Iris shouted. "I say we here Ms. Nichols out!"
"Seriously!?" von Karma balked at her rival's statement. "She's obviously lying!? And besides, she has no motive to murder Will Powers!?"
"Unless she didn't want to kill Powers in the first place!" an unexpected voice roared out.
Viola gasped. "Don Tigre...what are you doing...!?"
"Puttin' an end to this," Tigre sighed with resignation as he stood up and glared at von Karma, his natural intimidation actually causing her to flinch.
Penny gasped at the sight of the ferocious tiger man and stood up. "Y-you...!"
"Yeah, me," Furio declared. "If youse want to know what's really goin' on, youse all better listen to me, or youse all gonna get it!"
"O-Oh my!" the Judge stammered. "Ms. Hawthorne, tell me, who is the ruffian again?!"
"Furio Tigre, Your Honor..." Iris answered hesitantly. "He ran away with Viola Cadaverini and started a new life as a restaurant owner. I brought him here due to his knowledge about the defendant's past, given that he himself worked for her family."
The Judge raised a brow, intrigued. "Oh? An expert to the Cadaverinis, eh?"
"I wouldn't say that-" Iris began, but jumped at Furio's snarl.
"Yeah, that's right!" Furio said. "And if youse wanna know why that girl really did it, then youse gonna let me testify!"
"OBJECTION!" von Karma protested. "This is preposterous! Your Honor, are you seriously going to let this slide!?"
"Well, we did let Ms. Nichols testify to the court," the Judge pointed out. "And testimony from someone who had ties to the Cadaverinis could benefit this trial."
"Also, Ms. Penny doesn't seem happy seeing Mr. Tigre," Pearl said, pointing at Penny, who hyperventilated as her body trembled in a mix of terror and anger from gazing at Furio.
"You're right, Pearl," Iris sighed. She would've wondered why Penny was acting like that if it weren't for the confession Furio gave her prior. She gave a sad glance to the tiger man. I hope you know what you're doing...
"If you agree to it, Your Honor, the defense requests that Mr. Furio Tigre to the stand," Iris said.
"Granted," the Judge said with a swift pound of his gavel.
