A few minutes had passed before there were a series of rapid knocks on the front door. Milly watched Bobby leave his desk and wheel out into the hall to answer the door.

She could hear another man's voice so she slid off the couch and headed for the door to see what was going on.

"Rufus, now ain't a good time."

"You say that like I give a damn."

Milly peered into the hallway to see Bobby talking to Rufus outside who then noticed her.

"What is that?"

He moved past Bobby to get a better look at Milly as though she were an animal in a zoo.

"Oh my god, that's a child. You kidnap her?" Rufus questioned in bewilderment, whirling around to face the other hunter.

"No you dumbass, she's Dean's."

"As in Winchester?"

"Obviously."

"Wow. I did not see that coming."

Bobby scoffed and Milly stood there awkwardly, not sure what to do.

"Milly this is Rufus, he's also a hunter. Rufus, this is Milly Winchester."

"Hi." Milly smiled, giving a little wave.

"Hello…" Rufus replied awkwardly before turning back to Bobby.

"Well now that I know you're babysitting, I guess that changes things."

"Why?"

"Because I think I'm dealing with a changeling."

"Oh…" Bobby replied and his grave tone made Milly a little uneasy.

"What's a changeling?" the girl asked, curiously.

"They're nasty creatures. Steal kids and replace them with evil versions to feed on their mothers." Bobby answered while pushing the front door closed.

Milly furrowed her eyebrows and looked up at Rufus in concern.

"And you're hunting one right now?"

"I am."

"Is there anything we can do to help?"

Rufus looked down at the kid in confusion. He felt it was a little strange that he had no idea Dean had a child when he definitely should have heard about something like that.

"How old are you?"

"Oh, I'm-"

"She's nine." Bobby interrupted her, and she looked at him before nodding at Rufus.

"Yes, I am nine."

The other hunter stared at Milly for a moment before shrugging.

"Well if you could draw it out…"

"We can't use the kid as bait!"

"Why the hell not? She's volunteerin!"

"That don't mean-"

"What do I need to do?"

"Milly I don't think-"

Rufus pushed Bobby's wheelchair away with his foot and bent down in front of the girl.

"Well, I've tracked it to a street a few towns over. I'd just need you to stand outside long enough for it to come to you. Then I'll come out and gank it before it can get you."

Milly didn't like the thought of it being able to "get her", but she wanted to help regardless.

"Okay."

Milly stood by the door tying her shoes when Bobby came up next to her.

"I have a bad feeling about this, kid."

Milly lifted her head up towards Bobby and a conflicted look appeared on her face.

"But Bobby, if I help save the kids, maybe Sam and Dean will see that I have a soul."

"Is that what this is about?"

She didn't respond and he sighed.

"Look, Milly, those boys have a lot going on right now. You don't gotta put yourself in harm's way to prove yourself to them. They'll come around."

"You think so?"

"Yeah, I do." He assured her, the tiniest hint of a smile on his face.

Milly looked down at her shoes and then back up at Bobby with her big green eyes.
"I wanna help Rufus. If there's something I can do, I should do it, right?"

All Bobby could think about was how much she reminded him of Dean at that moment and it was startling.

"Uh, yeah." He sighed, losing his original train of thought.

Milly nodded and walked out the door to find Rufus, leaving Bobby with his thoughts.

He felt like an idiot for saying yes.

Milly stood by the playground clutching a small hand mirror and her heart was pounding hard in her chest. Harder than it ever had before and she thought she could hear it thumping. She went over the plan again in her mind to keep calm.

"You're just gonna hang out around the playground until someone approaches you. When they do, turn around and look at them with this mirror." Bobby instructed, handing the girl a hand mirror.

"If you see a monster, run like hell and Rufus'll take over. You got that?"

"Yes."

"I'll be hiding behind those trees," Rufus said, pointing across the park to a row of Thuja trees.

"When I see you run, I'll light it up while you meet Bobby back here."

"And if it chases you, I'll light it up from over here," Bobby added.

"Okay."

Sure enough, after being there for twenty minutes or so, an elderly woman showed up and began to hover around the playground. Milly hung out by the swirly slide, trying to pretend she didn't notice. The woman wore a pink sweater and carried a basket of yarn which confused the girl. This didn't look like a monster at all.

Perhaps Rufus and Bobby were wrong?

The changeling must not have arrived yet.

Deciding to check, just in case, she tried to hold up the mirror so that the woman wouldn't notice. However, Milly couldn't get a good look with the mirror where she was, so she climbed up the slide to the jungle gym. She held up the mirror and turned away from the elderly woman so that she appeared in the mirror. After waiting a few seconds, the woman turned to look at Milly and her face appeared monstrous and ugly. The changeling dropped the yarn basket on the grass and immediately leaped towards the jungle gym, causing Milly to drop the mirror in terror. She grabbed onto a monkey bar in front of her and dropped to the ground before taking off running as fast as her legs could go. She turned to look behind her and saw Rufus with a flamethrower, setting the old woman on fire. She kept running to where Bobby was waiting and the hunter sighed in relief when he spotted her running over.

He wheeled over and she stopped, hunching over to catch her breath.

"You alright?"

She straightened up and looked at him with wide eyes.

"That was—that was crazy!"

She put her hand over her heart and laughed.

"My heart is going so fast!"

Bobby shook his head.

"You're just like your Daddy." He muttered, just as Rufus came running over.

"Anyone order granny extra crispy?" He asked before laughing to himself.

"You were awesome out there kid." Rufus praised and Milly felt a surge of pride.

Helping felt good.

Later that evening, Bobby and Rufus sat outside on the porch while Milly was inside asleep on the couch.

"So Dean Winchester actually has a kid…" Rufus stated, still in disbelief.

"Yeah...But don't go tellin' anyone. The last thing that kid needs is a target on her back."

"You got it. But why's she with you?"

"You know how Dean is. Not to mention what he and Sam are up against right now. A nine-year-old girl ain't helping that situation."

Rufus nodded in understanding.

"And her mother?"

"Doesn't really seem to be in the picture anymore."
