When they reached Jesse's house, Sam and Dean jumped out of the car and Milly went to follow but her door was locked.
"Stay here," Dean ordered firmly before they sprinted towards the house.
Milly sat in the car filled with apprehension, chewing her bottom lip and bouncing her feet. If angels and demons were involved, this was certainly a big deal.
But if anyone could handle it, it was them, right?
Milly felt a presence around her as though she weren't alone in the car, but as she looked around at the surrounding street, no one was around. She tried to look into the house through the windows thing to see if everything was okay, but it was useless. She was too far away to be of any help.
Suddenly Milly noticed a woman heading inside and her heart began racing quicker. Sam and Dean were in danger. She was sure of it.
Milly remembered the conversation with Dean earlier and didn't want to make it harder for her to gain his trust so she tried to ignore it.
Yet every single instinct she had was screaming at her to get off her butt and do something, so she pulled the car door lock up, opened the door, and ran towards the house as fast as she could.
When she reached the front of the house, the door had already been kicked down so she rushed inside to the living room. There stood a kid in the middle of the room with the woman she saw, while Sam and Dean were pinned to the wall. The house was in the beginning of falling apart, likely because of Jesse.
"Jesse stop!" She shouted and to her surprise, everything suddenly stilled as he turned around. When he saw someone his own age, Jesse felt just an ounce of comfort, having no clue what was happening around him.
"Ignore her Jesse, she's one of them." The woman growled.
"Sit down and shut up." the boy ordered, and the woman was forced into a chair and couldn't speak.
"Who are you?" He asked her.
"I'm Milly. I-I'm kind of like you. I can do things too- things I don't understand."
"Like what?"
Milly truly had no idea if she could do it again, she had no idea if she wanted to be able to do it again, but she closed her eyes and pushed her hands forward. She blocked out everything around her and concentrated as hard as she possibly could. After a second, the furniture began sliding to the back of the room. Sam and Dean were dumbstruck, not knowing she was able to do something like that. When Milly opened her eyes, she kept them on Jesse, not having the courage to look at the brother's reactions.
"Is she telling the truth? Am I a demon?" Jesse asked her.
"Yeah, well, half demon, but you are also half human. There's this um...this war going on between heaven and hell and hell is trying to get you to fight for them."
"Fight for them? I'm just a kid."
"I don't think they care. But if you do...a lot of people will die."
Milly noticed how lost he looked, something she understood more than anything else.
"You can do the right thing. You've got choices, Jesse."
"Why are you telling me this?!" He exclaimed and Milly took a deep breath. She glanced over at Sam and Dean who were still pinned to the wall. The horrified looks on their faces made her stomach churn before she turned back to Jesse.
"Because I know you can make the right choice. Not everyone like us has to be the bad guy. Y-you're half human so you have a soul. That means we can be good." She told him, her voice breaking.
Jesse considered what the girl said and clenched his fists again, turning back to the woman.
"Get out of her."
The chair flew back against the wall and black smoke poured out of her mouth and vanished up the chimney. As soon as she was gone, Sam and Dean dropped to the ground panting.
"What the hell was that?" Dean exclaimed at Milly, and she backed up slightly.
"How long have you been able to do that?" Sam demanded, getting to his feet.
"I only j-just found out. That's what I was trying to tell you before we left. I-I can move things without touching them."
"Yeah, it's called telekinesis," Sam told her with wide eyes.
Dean stared at Milly a little longer before turning to the boy.
"Listen, Jesse-"
"I want to talk to her," Jesse interrupted, pointing at Milly before heading towards the stairs. She didn't have the strength to look at Dean or Sam before she followed after him.
As they sat on his bed, Milly looked around at his posters in curiosity and he turned to face her.
"Are you half demon too?"
"No, my mother is a god."
"A god?" He repeated incredulously.
"Mhm. It's a confusing situation."
"Why is this happening to us? What are we supposed to do?"
"I wonder about that a lot. Sometimes I hate that I'm like this, that I was born different than all the other kids I see. Because I wonder if I'm wrong."
"Wrong about what?"
"What I said downstairs. About being good and having choices."
"Then why'd you say it?"
"Because I want to believe it. I want to believe that I was born for a good reason and that what I am, doesn't determine who I have to be."
"Maybe you were right though, I think we do have a choice."
"You do?"
"Yeah. Because in my favorite movie, Spiderman, they say, "We are who we choose to be.""
The two of them were silent in thought for a moment and Jesse laid down on his bed, staring at his ceiling.
"If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?"
Milly sat quietly as she pondered the question. She hadn't been to many places, but only one thing came to mind.
"I'd find my mother."
"Where is she?"
"I don't know. Where would you go?"
"I'd go to Australia."
"Then go."
Jesse sat up with a confused look on his face.
"What do you mean?"
"Castiel, an angel, he said you could go anywhere with just a thought."
"You really think I could do that?"
"Yeah, I do." She nodded and he looked conflicted before an idea popped into his head.
"Then let's go. Both of us. Away from everything. We won't have to be anyone we don't want to be. We'd get to choose."
That idea was beyond tempting to Milly. Escape all the worries she faced with this prophecy, this war between heaven and hell, Sam, and Dean. Jesse understood her, she finally had someone who understood her. This was Milly's out and she wanted to say yes, but it felt wrong.
"I have to figure out who I am first. I need to find my Mom."
Jesse nodded and thought to himself for a short minute before a small smile appeared on Milly's face.
"Do you think you could take me somewhere before you go to Australia?"
Sam and Dean waited downstairs, the elder brother pacing anxiously.
"She moved the furniture with her mind, Sam. Her mind. She has supernatural powers. What the hell are we supposed to do now?"
"You say that like we had any clue to begin with."
"Well at least we thought she was normal, apart from all the bizarre crap in the beginning, I thought she was just a kid."
"Okay, sure, this changes things, but we'll handle it. Besides, you saw her face, she looked terrified."
"Yeah well, fear leads to anger and anger leads to hate."
"Did you just quote Star Wars?"
"It's relevant, now, do you want an Anakin Skywalker situation on your hands? Because I don't."
"Dude. You need to get it together. I know you're scar-"
"Don't start with this shit again, Sam."
"Dean, she's your kid. At some point, you're going to have to accept that."
Dean looked at his brother but didn't respond. He knew Sam was right but wouldn't dare admit it. The Beatles lyrics that had been haunting him for days suddenly began playing in his head again.
Hey Jude, don't make it bad.
Take a sad song and make it better.
"They've been up there a long time." He replied, changing the subject.
They walked up the stairs and made their way to Jesse's room only to find it empty.
"He's gone." Cas's voice suddenly said from behind them. They turned around to see him standing there, back to his normal self, after having been changed into a toy by Jesse.
"Where?" Sam asked.
"I don't know. Jesse put everyone in town back to normal—the ones still alive. Then he vanished."
"Where's Milly?" Dean wondered out loud, not seeing the little blonde anywhere.
"It would appear she went with him," Cas responded.
"What? Why?"
"Hey." Sam interrupted, noticing two notes on the bed.
"What do they say?"
"This one is from Jesse, he had to leave to keep his parents safe, that he loves them, and he's sorry."
Dean picked up the other note that sat on the bed and read it, a sinking feeling growing in his gut.
"Sam and Dean,
I think it would be the best for everyone if I go on my own now. I hope your lives can go back to the way they were now and I'm sorry for making things so complicated. Please tell Bobby thank you for me
Milly"
"How do we find them?" Sam asked, taking the note from Dean.
"With the boy's powers, we can't. Not unless he wants to be found." Cas answered.
Dean ran a hand over his mouth and turned away from Sam. He didn't understand this sick feeling that just kept growing inside him. One thing was becoming very clear.
He was going to find his kid.
He was going to make it better.
