I OWN NOTHING

NOTE: Hey guys so I hope you like this chapter and I hope I can keep updating regularly. And I haven't forgotten I owe you guys the bonus chapter where you see Hawke's point of view so that's coming up too. Also before I decided to write this chapter and her point of view chapter, I did do research on comas so that I could be more accurate. Tbehe things I'm going to have Hawke do have been recorded as almost never happening but it has happened in rare cases and I figured since she is a mage and being healed faster than medicine she's kind of a rare case. Hope you guys like this.

The next two days passed similarly and Fenris was getting increasingly more worried as the days wore on. She hadn't been responsive at all in the days that passed not moving, not twitching, not anything. Leto was practically mute not understanding how to deal with his emotions and it seemed only Fenris was able to get him to speak. He had been trying to coax him into telling her stories but this only resulted in tears and after the first day he had learned why. Leto was thinking of what he'd told his mother the day he returned. He'd said he hated her. He was punishing himself, and Fenris could not let that happen. Sitting him next to her bed he said.

"Talk to her. She will hear you say what you need."

Seeing that his father was not taking no for an answer he leaned in and began to talk to his mother not caring that anyone else was in the room.

"I…I didn't mean it mother. I don't hate you! I was just mad because father left and if you had told him about me we could have been a family much sooner and I'm sorry mother! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! Just wake up mother! I'll never be mean again. I promise!"

Here he had to stop because he had burst in to tears. He'd never meant to say all of that but once he started he couldn't stop. Clutching his father he repeated what he said to his mother.

"I just want her to wake up."

Clutching him just as tight Fenris began to rock him back and forth murmuring soothing words to him and eventually the poor boy had fallen asleep. Looking up at his friends he noticed Orana and Charade crying while the rest of the group looked like they might start. Feeling his emotions rising he swallowed thickly trying to force them down. He would have his moments to be sad but right now the group needed a leader. He didn't know who would take on that role. He had never thought who would step up and lead them should Marian be rendered unable to but it seemed that the group had decided he was.

Making sure Leto was comfortable he stood and waited for someone to say something but no one did. They were looking at him waiting which reinforced what he had been thinking before. After giving instructions and seeing relief on a few faces began taking care of Marian as he had the previous days by changing her sheets and keeping her cool. Anders had been checking on her as well which only infuriated Fenris more because he couldn't help but feel there was something that he could be doing that he wasn't.

Looking down at Marian he felt his emotions rising again. He felt so helpless. It was killing him knowing there was nothing more he could do for her. He never thought he would be able to love someone the way that he loved her. Never expected to say the words, but he'd spoken the truth. He'd never said those words before but he would say them to her. If only she would wake up they could take the time to talk about everything and maybe their relationship as damaged as it was could stand a chance. Obviously no matter what they did they were in each other's lives now. They had a son together. Something he'd never thought would be possible. He had a son. A living person that was a part of him. Came from him. He'd never thought a former slave would experience this. He wanted Marian to understand. He was angry, and hurt by her betrayal. He should've been there for his son from the beginning. That time was something he could never get back.

Looking down at Marian Fenris wiped his eyes once more before intertwining their fingers and squeezing her hand only to gasp in surprise when he felt his hand being squeezed back. It was the barest touch and he knew if he wasn't so in tuned to her he wouldn't have noticed. But he had. His skin always felt alive when she touched him. Jerking his head back to Marian he noticed nothing else had moved. Just her hand. Her eyes remained closed and her body still as if she hadn't moved at all. Squeezing once more and watching her closely he couldn't stop the hope flaring in his chest only to feel it being crushed when nothing happened.

"Marian?"

He said softly. Glancing at her still form once more he watched her carefully before saying her name louder. Not paying attention to what was going on behind him and only focusing on her he didn't realize that his son was now awake and his companions had reentered the room hearing him raise his voice.

"Marian."

He said again more desperately this time. Still seeing nothing he sank to the floor not looking up until he heard Leto talking to him.

"Father? What's going on?"

Shaking his head he looked back at Marian once more before saying.

"She just…."

Fenris started trailing off looking back to her once more. Leto frowned in confusion and prodded.

"She just what father? Did she wake up?"

He shook his head in the negative before opening his mouth to speak. He was going to tell him that his mother had squeezed him but looking at her still form once more he felt conflicted. He looked so hopeful and he had just broken down less than an hour before. Would it be right to get his son's hopes up when she wasn't responding at all? Seeing the other hopeful looks behind his son he wondered could he get all of their hopes up for something that he didn't understand himself. After a long moment he finally replied.

"I think she's getting better."

Leto watched his father carefully before nodding slowly and asking.

"So her skin isn't so hot now father?"

He nodded silently and ignoring the questioning looks he was getting from the rest of the group he sat back down losing himself in thought. Seeing the look of concentration on his face the others left him alone as well saying they were going to prepare food while Carver, Aveline, Donnic and Zevran offered to teach Leto training strategies. Seeing the hopeful look on his son's face Fenris had nodded giving in and gave his son an indulgent smile. As the went into the other room he felt a brief flare of panic but tramped it down knowing he would be alright and he was only one room away. Looking down at his hand and back at Marian his eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Could it be that he'd imagined her touch? That he was so desperate for her to wake up that he was now imagining her squeezing him back? He had been so sure of what he felt. But if she had squeezed him why would she not wake up after? Had she been conscious for a second? Had he made the right decision in not saying anything?

These thoughts continued to plague him throughout the day and he alternated between being trapped in his mind and checking on his loved ones. He knew they worried for him. He hadn't slept in almost four days and he had been beating himself up over it as much as they had. He knew he needed rest to be at his top, but everytime he felt himself going to sleep his worry over his son and the woman he loved kept him from doing so. Hearing a clank of metal he was pulled out of his mind and moved to the door instantly only to hear Carver swear loudly before Isabela and Leto began laughing.

Rolling his eyes but smiling he started to move back to the bed only to hear a soft knock on the door. Opening it just as softly knowing he revealed Varric and Sebastian at the door. Stepping back he led them inside before asking softly.

"Why aren't you asleep?"

Varric looked at him as if he was a simpleton.

"You haven't slept. We came to offer to watch Leto so you could. We know you have this whole suffer in silence thing but friends care about each other and were all worried and we know you won't sleep unless Leto is in the room. He looked like he was getting tired and Orana said he usually naps around this time."

Sebastian nodded his agreement before adding.

"With your hearing being what it is if something did happen you would be able to hear it and wake up."

Shaking his head stubbornly Fenris turned and said.

"They need me. I will sleep later."

Varric sighed dramatically before looking at Sebastian and grinning mischievously.

"That's a shame broody because I'd really hate to tell Hawke when she wakes up that you didn't take care of yourself while she was sick. "

Glaring now Fenris opened his mouth then shut it realizing that Varric wasn't trying to be an ass. He was doing it because he cared. Noticing his silence Varric stepped on Sebastian's foot prompting him to speak again.

"We'll stay in the room and protect him. I know you want to watch over him but every parent needs sleep. If you're not running at your best how can you expect to protect him?"

"Nothing in the world would stop me from protecting my son."

He snapped. Seeing both of them exhale in frustration he sighed himself before sitting back down and said quietly.

"I can't promise I will sleep. It will not be long if I do."

The other two remained silent bring Leto to his father and then taking spots in the room to best defend against attackers. After making sure Leto was asleep and glancing at each other for long moments Varric finally spoke again.

"Did something happen with Hawke?"

He didn't say anything for a long time before finally saying.

"I felt her squeeze my hand but she didn't respond to anything I tried and it was so brief. I didn't want have you all lose hope seeing her unresponsive after I told you I got a response by her squeezing back."

It was Sebastian's turn to speak and he spoke slowly and carefully knowing he had to tread lightly.

"Are you sure that's what you felt? I've never heard of someone in her state being able to respond to outside stimulation. Once their unconscious they can't respond."

Fenris said nothing to this and when Sebastian opened his mouth again Varric shook his head signaling him to stop. Silence fell upon the room and though he tried to fight it Fenris found himself falling asleep. He didn't have an easy sleep as his mind refused to shut down but he forced himself to try. Much sooner than he expected however he found himself being woken up by his son yelling excitedly and jerked to a start standing up and surveying the room finally locking his gaze on his son who was holding a chest and Varric's lock picking tools.

Turning his gaze to Varric said.

"Your teaching my son lock picking?"

Seeing his father's expression Leto frowned before saying stubbornly.

"Don't you blame uncle Varric. It was my idea. Uncle Sebastian said no and aunt Isabela was downstairs."

Exhaling silently Fenris shook his head before saying.

"You can be the one to tell Marian dwarf."

Before turning to check on her. Feeling her head and finding it cooler than it had been before he noticed that Anders was also in the room and he now had an almost smug smile on his face. His suspicions spiked instantly but he knew that if anything had happened Varric would have let him know. Ignoring him entirely or trying to he continued feeling her skin making sure she was alright. Hearing Anders call to him he turned.

"We should try to get her to drink another potion."

He said nothing but instead maneuvered himself behind Marian while sitting her in his lap tilting her head. He had learned that this was the easiest way for him to get it down her throat and help shift the weight. Waiting for Anders to get the potion she needed he clutched her hand and held it to his chest feeling his heartbeat thrumming under their combined fingers. Anders had just made it back to the bed when Fenris felt it again. Soft but determined he felt his hand being squeezed. Only this time it quickly became a hard squeeze of someone who was afraid. Looking down he saw her eyes open and staring at him. Hearing Anders drop the potion and hearing glass break he knew that he had seen her awake as well. Blinking rapidly her face contorted into one of distress as she asked.

"Where am I?"

And that's all for now I hope you guys like it the next chapter will be Hawke's point of view and then the one after that will be the next chapter regarding her waking up.
