Chapter 21: Apparition and Events
May 3rd, 1994
Charms Classroom
Red light spread across the dimly lit classroom, before it hissed and sizzled out against stone. Blue, green, teal, and orange light followed it, but similarly colored lights flew back towards the origin. There was heavy breathing heard throughout the room, just as there were bangs, clangs, and cracking, as spells met stone, desks, chairs, and just about anything else reachable within the walls. A fog enveloped the room from one of the two casters, taking all visibility away, leaving only the flashes of spellfire. Colors seemed to come and go, just as noises did. Though it all stopped when there were two resounding thuds, one only seconds after the first, meaning spells had hit their intended targets. Unfortunately, it seemed, both targets were incapacitated.
It was only a minute later that the door flew open, and an old man in brightly colored robes entered. Vanishing the smoke, he nodded, seeing both of the duelers unconscious. "Hm. Well, he is certainly improving. I wonder who's spell turned that chair into an antelope, and why it was an antelope at all?" Dumbledore said with a chuckle.
A flick of his wand, and the two bodies on the ground seemed to come to life. "So, what happened here?" Dumbledore asked. Two groans were his answer, as it seemed neither wished to respond.
"I fink- I think I hab a concossin." Harry slurred. Dumbledore shook his head as the professor was up and over to him instantly.
"Apologies Harry. I think you took my Bludgeoner to the head. Let's get you to Poppy." Flitwick said, levitating Harry and walking out of the room. Dumbledore followed behind.
"Filius, what happened?" Dumbledore asked quietly.
"Well, we were dueling, rather fiercely I might add, and Harry used fog to hide the room. Before I could vanish it, he pressed me and I retaliated, though I forgot what the limits were. I aimed too high, and I think I hit him with a bludgeoner, if not, then a banishing hex. Either way, it was my fault. I panicked, and in an attempt to try to lessen the fall, walked into his last spell, a stunner." Flitwick said quietly.
No doubt both would have a bad migraine, and if they didn't now, they would once the healer was done yelling at them. "Well, let us be sure it doesn't happen again. The wards alerted me that both of you were incapacitated, which isn't a good sign. I must admit though, there was an impressive amount of carnage around the room."
"I'm gud at breking his antimatines." Harry laughed out.
"Harry, you have a head injury." Dumbledore said, "Take it easy until Poppy attends to you."
It was a half hour later that Harry woke up with a headache, and with Dumbledore and Flitwick sitting to each side of him. "Oh merlin, I don't think I dreamt that concussion, did I?"
Both of the teachers chuckled as Madam Pomfrey walked over, casting a few diagnostic spells before huffing, "You weren't supposed to pass out when I healed you, Mr. Potter, but since you are well now, perhaps you can tell me why you are here… again?" She said sternly.
"Uhhh… accidents?" Harry replied. She just shook her head.
"Children." She muttered, "No Mr. Potter. Perhaps next time, avoid the spell aimed for your head. Otherwise you may not be so lucky, and Filch would be cleaning the Charms classroom of blood and brains. Now up and moving. If you feel any dizziness or blurred vision, return to me immediately." She said, patting his shoulder.
Slowly, Harry climbed up, speaking as he did, "I am sorry professor. I didn't see the spell until the last moment, and by then, it was too late."
"Things happen, but perhaps this was a good lesson for us both. We haven't had any serious incidents until now, but now you understand first hand how injuries can occur, and what fighting in the real world may be like." Flitwick responded, "And I got a good reminder to aim my wand lower when dueling outside of a sanctioned platform. We don't have the luxury of their safety shields here."
Safety shields were basically shields that went around the other person's head, and as long as they were on the platform, it prevented magic and objects from hitting them within the protected area by using the wards to drain the power from the magic, or to pulverize any objects that could be possibly lethal. While it removed several useful spells from being used, it also kept people alive in almost every circumstance where something would have hit their head. It was a strict safety measure meant to prevent instantly fatal injuries.
Ironically, just about anything else was fair game, bar dark magic and the unforgivable of course.
"How are you doing Harry?" Dumbledore asked, speaking for the first time.
"Fine headmaster, though Wood will be… displeased if I am unable to play at our match on Saturday. Speaking of, Professor Flitwick, would it be alright if we move that day's dueling practice to the day after? I would like to be in perfect form for the match." Harry asked.
"Of course, however, I expect an extra hour afterwards where you show me some new spells you have learned." The small professor responded.
"Deal!" Harry replied.
"Head on back to your dorm Mr. Potter. Class starts in an hour, and you still need to eat and shower." Dumbledore responded. Flitwick nodded in agreement, and Harry made his way to the dorms for a shower before breakfast. Unfortunately, between the duel and the second ritual, he was tired, though, since the ritual, he could feel magic easier. It was how he lasted so long in the duel this morning.
Unfortunately, everyone had made their way down to breakfast, bar Ron who had just woken up, meaning that when Harry arrived, he was ripe for questioning. "Where were you Harry? Typically you are ready on time." Hermione asked as Harry sat between Neville and Susan.
"Was in the Hospital Wing. Flitwick and I made a small error resulting in me having a concussion. I'm fine now, and only a bit sore with a headache."
Susan and Hermione looked far more alarmed than Neville, who just turned and raised an eyebrow, "Really? What spell caused this accident?"
"THIS ACCIDENT?" Two voices yelled, causing Harry to wince.
"Bludgeoning hex. I was lucky on that front." Harry replied, eating a bite of toast. Susan looked pale while Hermione just stared. Neville nodded.
"That you are Harry. After all, Filch could be scraping you off a wall if it was something serious." Neville replied, "It is why unsanctioned dueling leagues are frowned upon. Safety is a big deal."
"Funny, Pomfrey said the same thing about my luck, mentioning Filch as well-" Harry was cut off by Susan.
"Harry!" Susan said, "Promise us that you won't go injure yourself like that again!"
Harry looked between Susan, Hermione, Katie, and Hannah, all who looked concerned and upset. Further down the table, Harry noted that Oliver was watching him oddly.
"Promise. Only for the fact that Oliver will murder me if I miss the final match." Harry said. Oliver seemed to read his lips, and nod before going back to the strategy book he had been carrying with him.
"No. Promise that you will be careful for us, and for yourself." Hermione suddenly spoke. Harry looked up at her, reading her face as best he could, before nodding. "I will do my best to ensure no such injuries occur again." Harry replied. "Happy?"
She frowned, but nodded. "So who won the duel then?" Susan asked. She had taken count of how often the duels ended in a draw or in Flitwick's favor, and the count was clearly for the master.
"Flitwick was stunned by the last spell I casted, so I assume a draw. Then again, he said he only got hit because he knew his spell was too high and was already attempting to check on me before he was hit, so perhaps in his favor?" Harry said.
"He won then. If he hadn't already known the outcome of his spell, he would've won, though in a sanctioned duel, you would've." Susan replied.

Quidditch pitch
Harry was nearly to the locker room when he heard a very familiar voice call out his name. He turned just before the person crashed into him, sending them both to the ground.
"Ouch. Dammit Sirius. If I get injured before our match, we will both die. Oliver will kill us both!" Harry exclaimed as Sirius hugged him.
"Yes yes I missed you too brat." Sirius replied, climbing up. "Are you excited for the match today?"
"Of course! It's perfect weather and Hufflepuff is the only other really good team- no offense to Ravenclaw or Slytherin but they don't have the natural talent." Harry said. "Plus, I get to fly the firebolt again!"
"Just like your father and I. I must say, I am surprised Neville isn't on the team. His father was a great beater in his day." Sirius replied.
"We have the Weasley twins for beaters, and they are human Bludgers themselves. And of course, the three flying foxes for chasers, Oliver for keeper, and some nobody kid as a Seeker." Harry replied with a grin.
Sirius just rolled his eyes. "Well tell that nobody kid that the match begins in around fifteen minutes so he should go get his gear on and get ready to fly."
Harry nodded, "Right. Later Sirius!"
Harry sprinted the short distance into the changing room, and quickly peeled off his outer robes before grabbing his gear. Only minutes later, he was standing with the team and listening to Oliver's speech of not losing.
"We have had this in the bag for two years! We could've done it then, and we can do it now." Oliver said before turning to Harry, "We have been unbeatable, even when Dementors attacked, you still won us the match Harry. Do it again!"
"Fred, George! You've not let us down, keep up the teamwork and protect our chasers." The two saluted with grins.
"Girls… well. I'm not about to tell you to do your jobs, you do it well enough on your own. Just watch out for each other and don't miss." Oliver said. "Now are we ready to win Gryffindor the cup?"
"Yes!" Was the resounding response, loudest from the twins.
"Then get ready. It's a minute till roll call." Oliver said.
The captain always went first onto the field, with the seeker last. Unless the seeker was the captain, then the Keeper went first, followed by the chasers, beaters, then seeker. Harry stood at the back of the line, and heard as they called out the Hufflepuff team. Then the Gryffindor team walked out, of course with Harry's name the loudest because of Lee being Lee.
"A clean game boys and girls, understood?" Madam Hooch asked. Two voices answered in sync, 'yes', before she began her countdown.
"Go!"
Harry had already cleared the ground and was ascending to above the level of the rings. Immediately, he started searching for the elusive snitch. He was unsurprised to see the Hufflepuff seeker, Diggory, following just below him. Harry had heard of the Hufflepuff from Susan, as apparently he was desirable, whatever that meant, but Harry also knew he was the best seeker in the school, other than possibly himself.
He dropped down and to the right, drifting towards the Hufflepuff goals. He rolled as he felt a Bludger come towards him, and it only missed by several inches.
"Wotcher Harry." One of the twins called as they chased the rouge ball.
Harry focused his vision, searching for the snitch, before deciding to test the other seeker. He sent himself forward, twisting towards the base of the Gryffindor hoops, which were towards the sun. As Diggory was higher than him, perhaps he would fall for it.
He did, chasing Harry around the pitch and up into the sky, before Harry slowed and steered to the side, causing Diggory to blow past him. It was a few seconds later when Diggory came back to him.
"Messing with me?" He asked.
"Of course. Though I figured you didn't want to eat dirt like Chang did." Harry replied with a chuckle.
"Well thank you for the exercise, though I thought the Firebolt was faster?" He asked. Harry just smirked in response, but said nothing else. Diggory nodded.
"Best of luck Potter!" Diggory called, starting to drift away.
"Harry, not Potter. I doubt you want me dead." Harry called back. He heard a laugh as Diggory responded to call him Cedric. At least Hufflepuff didn't still hate him anymore.
Harry watched the match here and there, mostly searching for the elusive golden ball. He couldn't find it though, and it was starting to cause the match to drag. The score was already 120-40 in favor of Gryffindor, with the twins stopping Hufflepuff almost every time.
Harry closed his eyes. If he couldn't see it, perhaps he could feel it. After a moment of focus, he decided it was a waste of effort though, as there was too much to find anything specific. Sighing, he continued to search, with his luck taking forever to work.
"POTTER HAS SEEN THE SNITCH!" Harry ignored the commentary, chasing the cursed ball through the air. He felt Diggory behind him as he twisted around the stands.
Suddenly it curved upwards, and tore through the right hoop on the Gryffindor end. Harry heard a Bludger whistle behind him as he followed it, inverting to follow the ball's dive toward the ground. The thing seemed bent on putting him into the ground as it continued its plummet.
Harry took a gamble, praying that it would curve the same way he did as he pulled up, gearing towards the left. By magic, it did, and flew straight into his hand. He immediately slowed himself as he held his hand up, cheering exploding across the pitch.
"A SHOCKING AND AMAZING CATCH, POTTER CAUGHT THE SNITCH, GRYFFINDOR WINS 310-70!" Lee yelled.
Harry hadn't even touched the ground when Oliver crashed into him, tears of joy noticeable on the boy. "Thank you Harry. We did it!" (It wouldn't be until later that he discovered that Oliver had scouts there for a chance to go professional, and the win guaranteed his chance.)
The rest of the team was quick to pile on, and most of the house on the field. It was only after McGonagall used a canon charm that everyone moved the celebration to the common room. Harry spoke with Sirius, before the man agreed to let Harry go change. He quickly made his way to the changing room, packing his broom up before making his way to the common room.
The twins, when he entered, were in the middle of party preparation, as though they could begin celebrating, everyone knew to hold back. Of course, that didn't stop people from coming over to congratulate members of the team. It also didn't help that the chasers were all sitting with Harry, Neville, Hermione, and Ron.
Katie kept making jokes that 'Harry didn't value his life' the way he was playing, making Hermione glare at him, the incident from earlier in the week still on her mind.
"I value it plenty, I'll have you know!" Harry responded at one point. Neville snorted. "What?"
"Well," Neville suppressed a laugh, "it's just that you almost have died every year you have been here, and sometimes you like to try to see if things will kill you, like Quidditch."
Hermione nodded in agreement, but her eyes widened as Harry just grinned looking at her, "well, I was once told by the smartest witch of out year 'Get us killed, or worse, expelled.' I've just taken her advice. She was right thought, if I am expelled, I will certainly have more problems than if I die."
"I-no-THATS NOT WHAT I MEANT!" Hermione yelled, attracting a few stares. Harry just laughed. "You know full well I was a distressed first year who had just seen a cerberus. Don't you dare twist my words."
"I surrender!" Harry threw his hands up with a smile. "I'm just teasing you though, don't think I actually meant that."
She just crossed her arms and glared, but Harry saw the beginning of a smile on her face, "No death defying stunts for the rest of the year! You're grounded!"
She only held her glare for a second before laughing, and getting up to pull Harry into a hug. "Your jokes need work." Harry laughed.
"Who said I was joking. I'm sure Hannah, Susan, and Katie would help baby sit you if you decided to attempt some stupid stunt." She replied, "I'd say I could count on Neville and Ron, but the first is more likely to join you in said acts, and Ron is a fifty fifty between joining or watching with popcorn."
"She isn't wrong!" The twins yelled, seeing the makings of a prank. "If Harry can't provide the entertainment this year, perhaps we will instead!"
"I'll write to Mum!" Percy yelled from his corner. "I better not see you pull some act like Harry does. I swear fate is on his side."
If only he knew.
Evening…
Harry was held back by the twins, and told to wait in the hallway at the portrait. Why? Harry had no idea. But apparently it was necessary.
Should I prank the twins?
Harry grinned. If he was about to get pranked, perhaps he should prank them too. "Milady, perhaps not let the redheaded twins in the next time they offer the password?" Harry suggested to the portrait.
She frowned, "Are you instructing me?"
"It is merely a polite request to prank them for whatever they have in store for me." Harry responded.
"Very well. I agree." She replied.
Harry drew his cloak and moved to the other corner, hiding invisibly. He waited for the twins to come out.
"Harry mate-" "where are you hiding at" the twins called in their famous twin speak.
"Over here!"
They turned around in time to see him close the portrait, before he turned around and stepped through the short hallway. He heard a lot of cheering, and at the last moment ducked instinctively, watching a pie go out his head, courtesy of Katie.
"Hey!" She said indignantly as laughs rang out. "What'd you duck for?"
"Because I didn't want to get slapped in the face with a pie?" Harry responded with a laugh.
"Oh, well fine! Have a cake-" Harry failed to duck the golden snitch cake that impacted his head unexpectedly from Alicia, "-instead!"
He just slowly reached up and wiped his eyes free of icing, before wiping his cheeks. Laughter was clearly heard throughout the whole common room. Harry looked at his hands, covered with icing, before looking at the two chasers laughing at him. He grinned.
"Hey!" "What the hell?" Both said, getting a handful each of cake and icing to the face.
"You got me, I got you!" He yelled, running as Alicia drew her wand.
Eventually, the twins came inside thanks to the pity of Lee, and were disappointed they missed the main event. Apparently, as Harry caught the snitch, he was the star, though Harry noticed Oliver getting a lot of attention, and the twins… drawing a lot of attention to them and the older chasers. Katie was still humored about the cake on her face, but Alicia had requested an apology, though she was really mad.
Harry ended up with a quaffle cupcake in his face after said apology.
Overall, his first quidditch cup party was an overwhelmingly fun time. Though perhaps it was also to Katie dragging him off for a second extensive snog session after he went and cleaned himself up.
June 2nd, 1994
Salazar's Quarters
"Are you ok Harry?" Salazar's voice called out. Harry had just completed his fourth ritual, and was currently rolled into a ball on the floor, his muscles and guts aching.
"Ugh."
"That about sums up how it felt for me as well. You will struggle to move for the next hour, and won't be moving fast until tomorrow afternoon at the earliest." Salazar replied.
Harry groaned. He had dueling practice tomorrow. He would have to hang out here before coming back to attend his lessons. Thankfully, next week started reduced lessons for finals, in which he was excited for.
"Up up. Go climb in the bed, and tomorrow we will begin with apparition lessons." Salazar called out some time later. Harry nodded, and walked across the hall to sleep. Salazar woke him in time to get up and return to his dorm, where he passed out a second time.
The next morning saw him back in the living room, where Salazar was going over apparition.
"Firstly, if you have read anything your ministry issues about the art of apparition, forget it. It is wrong. You must understand exactly what the magic is doing first. To apparate is to bend the space between where you are and where you are going. In order to do this, you must know the geological coordinates, or know exactly where you are going based on visual memory, and then wrap your magic around you, pulling the spaces closer before pulling you to the other side." Salazar said in a high voice.
"When you apparate, you have a loud popping noise from air displacement. People good at the art have a quiet pop, and I expect you to master it, meaning not a peep when you apparate."
"Are there any maximum distances one can travel? Can you apparate into a person? Can you apparate into a wall?" Harry asked.
"To answer your questions in reverse, walls hurt to apparate into, so don't do it. As for people, no. Whether it is their own magic conflicting with your own, or magic itself preventing it, you cannot apparate into a person." Salazar responded, before frowning.
"Distance is a different story though. No one has figured out exactly what the limits are for distance other than the further you go, the more magic it takes. Most who would apparate from London to here would do it in a couple of bursts, perhaps three jumps, but they would be drained too, so they use the floo instead. People on the more powerful side, like Hit-wizards, some of the professors, and your headmaster, can do the jump in a single go, and may even be fine right afterwards. I know your headmaster has apparated to the continent from here, with permission, and been fine." Salazar replied.
"With permission?" Harry asked.
"Well, while you stay on the continent, or on the British Isles, you can apparate freely. You see, using the ministry's version, with your wand in your hand, you can easily be detected by a traced wand or your magical signature, meaning you can be followed easily. However, the same does not go for intercontinental apparition. You see, halfway through the channel, there is a magical monitor, or 'net' of sorts, that can monitor and stop intercontinental apparition. Only do it if you have the legal approval, or else it is a serious crime." He said sternly. Harry nodded.
"You said I can't be detected by the ministry trace unless I am doing their form of apparition?" Harry asked.
"Theirs is a form of wordless magic. I will not teach you the inferior method. I will teach you the wandless method. You can be tracked, but only if someone knows exactly where you left from, though it may be harder to trace. A wandless signature is weaker and slightly different from a wanded signature. You say you have the ability to learn wandless magic, we will begin to harness that. This is the easiest and first step." Salazar responded with a hint of arrogance. Harry just nodded.
Soon enough, Salazar finished explaining how to visualize and actually move using the magic, meaning it was time for some practical attempts. What followed was probably amusing to watch, or at least Salazar thought so as he watched Harry fail to apparate for nearly an hour and a half. Harry held his emotions though, and continued on attempting.
Sighing, Harry paced for a moment, causing Salazar to watch curiously, and thankfully, silently. Harry focused on the memory of when he was seven, and apparated onto the roof of the school. He remembered the drain he felt from it, but also the light pressure and the twisting. Stopping suddenly, he focused.
Salazar watched in interest, wondering exactly what the boy was doing. It was rare for him to pace, and not in the middle of a lesson. He frowned, then smirked as he noticed a small layer of magic wrap around the boy, and with a small pop, Harry was across the room. He watched Harry stumble, recover himself, and after another ten seconds of focus, do it again, and again, and again.
"Congratulations Harry. You seemed to have caught on easily." Salazar said. "Most struggle to learn this until after their seventeenth birthday. Something with the magical maturities makes it easier."
"And you couldn't have warned me?" Harry asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Nope." He replied, popping the 'p' excessively. "You did fine regardless, and learned it far faster than anyone else would've."
"I did it before, when I was seven. I just focused and remembered the feelings, and replicated it here." Harry said. "Now, I am famished and my legs are sore, so let's get some food first. Perhaps some pasta and grilled chicken." Harry said cheerfully, walking out of the room as Salazar grumbled.
"I can't eat, you brat." Salazar huffed. Of course the child had to mention his favorite meal.
Harry ate, before spending some time talking with the founder about how the summer was going to work. The founder was insistent on him spending some time in the quarters, but also doing other things too. It was agreed that other than the week for the dueling championship, he would spend his weekends free, and come to the learn for six hours everyday during the week, before rewinding to not be missing.
Finally, despite his body's protest, it was time to rotate back and attend his daily beatin-training. Ten minutes later saw him walking into the dueling master's classroom, where said person was sitting at his desk.
"Good morning Harry." The professor called out.
"Good morning Filius, ready for training?" Harry replied. It had taken time to use the man's name, but he had begun to do it more often.
"Of course. You remember that this is our last session every other day right?" Flitwick asked, "only on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday next week, and none the following week for finals."
Harry nodded. "Good, then today will be a head to head. All out. I want your best Harry, nothing less."
"You always get my best." Harry replied, stretching as the professor moved to his spot. "You do the countdown sir…"
Breakfast, earlier, but also later for Harry
"Anyone seen Harry this morning?" Susan asked as her and Hannah sat down.
"He had dueling training this morning, but it is odd that he isn't here yet." Hermione replied. "Was he in the shower?"
"Nomp." Ron replied with his mouth full of bacon. Neville shook his head in agreement.
"I wonder what happened. Professor Flitwick isn't here either. Perhaps they are running behind or have lost track of time?" Hannah suggested.
"Who knows. We'll find out soon enough. Charms is our first class." Susan said.
The group nodded despite the girls being more worried than Neville, and shortly afterwards dispersed to go to classes, only Hannah and Susan would have to return to their common room, as the charms classroom had been, well…
"Uh, where is the wall at?" Hannah asked, finding the charms classroom with an eight foot hole between the hallway and classroom. Looking through the hole, the headmaster, professor, and Harry were all in the middle of repairing the classroom.
"Harry. You broke it, now go tell my students their Charms class has been canceled today on the note that you blew apart half the room." Flitwick called out, spotting the group standing in the hallway.
"Of course, professor." Harry replied, before stepping over the rubble and making his way into the hall. "Sorry everyone. I blew up the classroom in a duel so class can't be held for your lesson today. Don't worry, you'll still have class next week!"
Several Ravenclaws groaned, but mostly just walked away. Only one or two had to comment about 'Potter ruining their lessons' but that was all. Susan figured it had to do with the destruction that they refused to openly insult him.
Nerds, "So how'd you do this Harry?" Susan asked, walking over to where Harry was repairing the second doorway.
"I, uh, I used a powerful confringo. It kinda had an effect on everything, especially since I missed my target." Harry replied sheepishly as the wall reassembled itself.
"But that's a sixth year spell!" Hannah replied.
"Eh. It's rather easy after a while. Damn." Harry said, as the wall broke itself open slightly. "I still haven't gotten this charm correctly."
A second wave of his wand and it sealed and held, though Harry glared at it for a moment, daring it to break again.
"Well, as much as I would like to sit and talk, there are plenty of other things that need repaired, so I gotta go. Have fun missing class!" Harry called out, as he walked back towards the room.
Susan grabbed and hugged him real quick, "I'm glad you're ok." She said, before letting go and running off, dragging Hannah with her. Harry just shook his head, and then groaned as he heard the headmaster call him back in the room.
I should've been more careful with that spell.
Dinner
"Where have you been Harry! And what is this about you blowing up the Charms classroom!" Hermione asked, or really yelled, as Harry sat down. Harry winced.
"Well… we were dueling, and it was pretty heated, when I mixed up power on spells, instead of creating a blinding lumos and a small confringo, I accidentally reversed it. Fortunately I missed Professor Flitwick though. The spell blew apart most of the entry side of the classroom, like twenty desks and the wall it hit, blew out the windows from the concussion, and blew out mine and Flitwick's eardrums. Luckily, I know how to heal that particular injury now, but it was still a pain to repair." Harry replied, grabbing food.
"I spent most of my morning repairing the room, with the headmaster and Flitwick repairing the windows, each part of the window needing to be repaired individually due to the composition, before spending the rest with the headmaster. He had me doing spell control in an isolated part of the castle. I lost thirty points and have two detentions with Professor Flitwick this weekend." Harry finished.
The twins immediately high-fived and cheered, thinking it was the best prank ever.
"How were neither of you hurt more?" Susan asked. "It should've turned everything to shrapnel."
"Flitwick noticed what spell missed, and as I hadn't cast anything else, shielded us both." Harry replied.
"I don't actually know what to say to that?" Hermione replied after a moment.
Harry just shrugged. Sirius had found it amusing that Harry had caused so much destruction with a single spell, but also knew how much worse it could've been. And while Sirius knew they could have fixed Harry's portion in just a few minutes, and fixed the windows in about half the time it took them, they probably enjoyed making Harry suffer by learning to repair things, or making it into a lesson of 'You break it, you fix it', something that hadn't occurred to Harry until Sirius mentioned it, making him laugh harder at Harry's expression.
