With Ragnhild having received a burial, her burnt body lying somewhere at the bottom of the sea, there was now the matter of the colony. Zyrah wasn't quite ready to leave the island yet, though she couldn't explain why.

"We can't stay here." Hiccup said, "As much as I want to."

"I feel that we can't just… leave them." Zyrah protested. She was worried for their safety. What could happen if they left?

"They have each other. And I think they have a new alpha who can protect them." Astrid offered as she watched Blueheart's mother become surrounded by other Night Furies.

"I know…"

"Listen, only we know the location of their colony. They'll be safe as long as we keep it safe!" Fishlegs assured in confidence. The riders had always remained loyal to protecting dragons, even going as far as to destroy two Dragon Eyes, the best sources of knowledge on the world of dragons they carried to date. It was a cause they were dedicated to, and this would be no different.

As the riders discussed their next action plan, the Night Furies looked to their new Alpha. Vorri had the same skills and capabilities as her late mate, so she was more than capable of leading her colony. However, she had a personal matter to deal with first.

She knew her daughter and apparently new son-in-law would soon depart with their friends and riders.

Off to the side, the dragons stood in a circle, quietly conversing with each other. Blueheart seated right next to Toothless, lowering her head under Toothless's, savoring the feeling of hearing the hum of his vocal cords. It was deeply comforting.

Vorri made her way over, coming up behind her daughter and nudging her shoulder.

Sweetheart, before you go… Vorri began, taking a seat next to Blueheart.

What is it, Mom? Blueheart replied, turning to face her. Vorri then faced the other dragons with a smile on her face.

Well, first off, I want to thank all of you for being such wonderful friends to my daughter.

Oh well, she's the best! Killgrave assured with enthusiasm, winking at Blueheart, who just rolled her eyes.

Truly, I mean it. It means the world to me. And Ryvir, Toothless perked his ears up hearing his new mother-in-law call him by his birth name, which felt a bit weird, but he didn't mind it.

I know I can trust you to take care of her. Toothless scoffed a bit.

Frankly, she'll be taking care of me.

We'll both be taking care of each other. Blueheart corrected with a slight eye roll.

"Blueheart!" Came Zyrah's voice from behind the dragons.

"C'mon, Dusk!"

"Stormfly!" The other riders called for their dragons, knowing it was time to leave.

"Toothless! C'mon, bud!" Hiccup called out. Just as Toothless was about to follow him, Vorri held him back momentarily.

Is everything okay?

Yes, yes, everything is fine. But… I sense something in my daughter.

Huh? You sense something? He echoed in confusion, what do you mean?

I know you're still grappling with this… relearning who you are. But there's something important you ought to know about us females.

And that is?

She's going to more than likely become more easily agitated and restless in the coming weeks. I'm sure your female friends will be familiar.

What?

You're going to be a father, Ryvir. Myrai is carrying an egg. I can sense it.

If Toothless were human, he would've fallen over into the sand from shock.

What?! How- how can you possibly know?

I've borne four eggs, and I've watched many friends become mothers themselves. You learn to pick certain things up over time.

Toothless was at a loss, unable to find the words. He had so many questions. How had his own species become such an enigma to him? And to leave the colony so soon? Sure, they were in good claws with Vorri as the new Alpha, but even still, they suffered a great loss. He felt there was still so much to learn and understand about himself, and there was not enough time.

Vorri, being a mother and leader, could sense his distress.

Ryvir, I know telling you not to worry will help… but in time, you'll learn all you need to know. The pair turned to see Ayry, Irmessa, and Vekyss approaching to bid Toothless goodbye.

I'm gonna miss you. I feel like I haven't had enough time to catch up. Irmessa confessed, her head hanging slightly.

In time we'll see each other again. If the Norns blessed us with this reunion, surely they will again. Ayry insisted, giving her son a lick on the cheek.

If not, I'll go track him down myself. Vekyss smirked, playfully nudging her older brother.

To that, I say good luck! Toothless returned with a chuckle.

"Toothless!" Called Hiccup once more.

I will miss you all, and I know Myrai will, also.

In time. Don't worry; we'll be here. Ayry assured.

With a final goodbye, Toothless bounded to Hiccup, scooping him onto his back. After Hiccup adjusted his leg's mechanics, the pair took to the skies where the other dragons were waiting, Blueheart calling out to him.

The girls watched from the beach below in admiration, Vorri, and Ayry in awe of both their children, respectively.

I'm going to miss him… dearly. Ayry whispered, fighting back a sob.

I know. I will, too.

As the riders made their return trip to Firewind, Zyrah was contemplating how she would begin to explain the events that had occurred to her parents. Her mind was still racked with grief and couldn't think right, overthinking every avenue of possibility. Would her parents be angry at her? Sympathetic? Would they even understand her choices?

On her right, Rurik angled Killgrave slightly closer, noticing the distress on his sister's face.

"Hey, Zyrah… talk to me." He said, having an idea of what was on her mind.

"Rurik… I… what am I gonna tell Mom and Dad? How am I going to explain any of this?"

"Easy, your dad murdered your dragon's dad, so you got him back in self-defense, then your mother took her life because she couldn't bear the thought of facing the world alone." Came Tuffnut from overhead, twisting Belch's head upside down, his helmet somehow defying gravity.

"Uh… yeah… I guess that works…" Zyrah replied, unsure if she should swing at Tuffnut or thank him for the bluntness.

"He can be strangely honest." Astrid shrugged.

"Well… in that case," Fishlegs turned his attention to Zyrah, noticing the talisman she now wore around her neck, "Zyrah, might I ask what that is?" He inquired, pointing to it.

Zyrah took the talisman in one hand with a dejected sigh, gazing at it longingly.

"Ragnhild… gave it to me. It was given to her by her… mother for her birthday. She said… that Einar took her away when she was no older than I am now. It was the last connection she had to her home, her heritage. It was a reminder of home and intended as a good luck charm." Zyrah explained, her eyes fogging with tears, one slipping down her cheek, splashing on the blood-stained silver.

"It's now the only connection I have. To a family I'll never meet." She put it away with a sniff, not wanting to shed more tears.

Around her, the riders glanced at each other, unsure of what to say.

Then something clicked in Hiccup's head.

"Y'know, that might not entirely be true."

"... What?" She gazed over at him, the wind stinging her tear-stained cheeks as she attempted to focus on him.

"We have a friend on Berk; he's told us that his background comes from the people of the north, on the mainland as well. He might know of a way to help you find your mother's family."

"Gods know how many connections he might have!" Ana added.

"Well, let's not get too ahead of ourselves," Konall interjected, "there's a lot of emotional healing to be done first." He reminded, fully intending on caring for Zyrah as soon as they got home.
