Chapter 18. Alaric
Caleb came running to the basement at the cry. Their Director was standing in a cell against the wall.
"Dr. Saltzman?"
"Help!" someone shouted behind Alaric.
It was only when Caleb approached the Director that he saw a man pinning a frail girl to the wall and trying to drive a stake through her chest. The girl barely held his hand and it was clear that the stake had already entered her flesh a little. Caleb didn't hesitate to push the Director. Alaric stepped away from Jenna and looked at the boy.
"Caleb?"
"Dr. Saltzman, what's going on here?"
Jenna clutched her chest and stared at Alaric, startled.
"She's a vampire, she doesn't belong here," Alaric said angrily.
"So I'm a vampire, too. Milton told me about her. I don't think she's a threat, especially if she's here. I thought Caroline wanted to wait for Elena?"
Alaric turned to Caleb and gave him a friendly smile.
"You're right, let's go," he patted the guy on the shoulder and they left the cell together, "you know, she probably wants to eat, bring blood."
"Okay," the guy was already heading for the stairs, but turned around, "are you coming?"
"Yes, don't worry, I'll just say a few words to the girl."
Caleb looked at the Director incredulously.
"It's okey! We decided that we were waiting for Elena."
"All right," and Caleb went upstairs.
Alaric went to the bars, but the girl was standing in the back.
"You, my dear, do not even think that you got off so easily," the man ran a stake through the bars and left the basement.
