Eve was pacing the room. Varga had hauled David out of her rooms to help with her mother. Eve had sprinted after them but was stopped by David. They promised to get her as soon as possible and ushered for the guards to take her back to her chambers. Before the door had closed, she heard David whisper to them not to let her out without his approval.

The anger she had felt was soon replaced for worry. It had been an hour and she still hadn't heard anything. When she had left her parents chambers to go with Varga, her mother had been OK. She did see the strain and pain in her eyes, even though her mother tried to hide it. But the look on Vargas' face when getting David had told her something was wrong.

Sick of pacing the room, Eve sat down with a sigh, only to get back to pacing a few seconds later. Footsteps stopped outside her door and Varga came through. Using her hybrid speed, Eve was in front of him that second demanding an answer with her eyes.

'Your mother is resting in the infirmary.' Varga said. 'Come with me.'

'No. Tell me.' Eve grunted.

'Connar and David will inform you.'

She grabbed Varga by his shirt and let her eyes turn black. Eve was done being kept in the dark. They were still treating her as the little girl she once was coming back to the coven. She didn't need protection, she needed information.

'I'll tell you when you calm down.' Varga said as he placed a hand on her wrist.

Eve released his shirt. She closed her eyes to take a deep breath. Her eyes turned back to normal, and she looked Varga in the eyes asking him to continue. Varga told her what happened to her mother after he came back to her mothers' chambers and in the infirmary.

'I need to go there.'

Eve was out of the door, not waiting for a reply from Varga. She sped through the mansion, ignoring everyone in her path. Varga was following right behind her. She almost bumped into the guards standing at the infirmary.

'Let me in.' Eve hissed.

The guards looked at each other and back to Eve. They weren't moving and Eve was getting more frustrated and angrier. Varga put a hand on her arm she hadn't noticed was raised to hit someone.

'Let her in.' David called from inside.

'Where is my mother?' Eve still hissed.

'Let us tell you what happened in Connar's office.' David said, trying to guide her to the office.

'I already know.' Eve exclaimed. 'Tell me where she is.'

'Right here.' Connar said from the far corner of the infirmary.

Eve rushed over and gasped when she saw both her parents in beds next to each other. She looked from one to the other, both were unconscious. Her mother was dressed in a gown and her face already had more color than before. Her clothes, or what remained of them, lay on a chair with blood and mud staining them.

The person she didn't expect to be unconscious was her father. He was still dressed in last nights' clothes and his shoes stood next to the bed. As he was lying on his side, she didn't expect him to be hurt. She turned around to David.

'Why are they both out cold?'

'You said Varga told you what happened.' David said giving Varga a look. 'Your father collapsed after he was finished saving your mother. He is sleep deprived but will be fine in a while.'

'Selene will be waking up any minute.' Connar stated while walking up to Eve, Varga and David. 'She will be tired, but her healing has returned. Since you are here, please make sure she stays in bed.'

Eve choose to ignore Connar's order for now and sat on the chair between her parents bed. Varga ushered David and Connar away to give her some time alone. Eve looked at her mother. The color of her face was getting back to normal and the bruises that marked her arms were gone. Eve stood and slightly lifted the gown to expose her shoulder. The bandages were already removed, and a fine, small line was the only mark that was left behind.

She walked to her father's bed and started to take his vitals as he had taught her. After some sleep he would be starving, but otherwise her father was fine. Eve gave him a kiss on his forehead as a thank you for saving her mother.

'How long have you been awake?' Eve asked when she had turned and looked into her mothers' eyes.

'Long enough to see you care for your father.' Selene answered. 'How is he?'

'Don't get up.' Eve said as she gently pushed her mother back in the bed. 'Exhausted, but good. Dad will be out for a while. How are you?'

'Better.'

'Your shoulder was healing nicely. How is the pain?' Eve questioned her mother as she took her vitals as well. 'Can I have a look at your hip?'

'She's turning into her father quite quickly.' Selene said to an approaching David, Connar and Varga. 'I am fine, sweetheart.'

Eve looked over Connar's shoulder while he did a workup himself. Only faint scars were left of the night before, which would heal within the hour. He let her move her limbs and concluded she was fine as she stated.

'Drink this slowly and let your body adjust to the blood again.' Connar said as he gave Selene the blood. 'Eve, do you want to remove the IVs? I am sure Michael has shown you how.'

Her father had though her how to do the basics years ago. Until she had it right, she had been poking her father with a needle. After a minute his arm had red dots on it, but he had pushed her to continue. When she had successfully inserted and removed the needle from his arm at least twenty times, he was satisfied. Eve would never forget the proud look her father gave her. She had only been fifteen at the time and the little girl inside her was jumping up and down.

Eve removed the needle from her mother's arm and when she looked up, she saw the same proud look as those years ago. Eve couldn't help but smile.

'You have been awfully quiet and cooperating. What is going on?' Eve asked.

Her mother shrugged but she had a gleam in her eyes while she chugged down the blood. Eve urged her to slow down, but the bag was already drained.

'Apparently, the coven cannot do without Elders for a few hours. I have to go and take care of some council business' David stated. 'Let me know if you need anything Eve. Selene, please take it easy and listen to your daughter, she is becoming a fine physician.'

'I will make sure she rests. Go to the council.' Eve replied.

'Connar, a word.' David signaled to the office.

'Varga, Eve, help Selene to sit on the side of the bed. No walking.' Connar added to Selene. 'I will be right back.'

'I don't need your help.' Selene protested as Varga approached her.

'You heard the man, help it is. You didn't mind my help a few hours ago.' Varga added.

Eve smiled at the face her mother made to Varga. Her mother had no problem sitting up and didn't show any signs of being in pain. When Connar returned, Selene was allowed to get up and walk around. Eve could see the annoyance of people fussing over her in her mothers' eyes but was surprised she let them.

'I would like you to stay here for another hour. Let me know if you need anything.' Connar said before he left for the office.

'Glad to have you back.' Eve said while hugging her mother. 'You scared me.'

'You won't lose me that easily.' Selene replied.

'Easily? Easily!' Eve exclaimed and let go of her mother. 'If dad wasn't there to save your ass, you would have died. Don't ever do that again!'

'It's not always up to me sweetheart. Come here.'

Her mother put her arms around her shoulders and got her back in an embrace. Eve calmed down again but hoped her mother wouldn't go on missions any time soon. Eve loosened her embrace and sat back in the chair. Her mother kept trying to get Varga talking about the coven and what had happened while they were out. When he kept refusing, she started pacing the room and checking Michael every minute.

'When can we finally get out of here?' Selene said losing her patience.

'Just sit down.' Varga replied. 'You've been through hell and back, take some time.'

'I am not very good with that. There is work to be done.'

'Ready to start ordering us around again.' Varga smirked.

'There won't be any of that the coming days.' Connar interjected. 'David agreed to relief you of duty until Michael wakes up. Until that time, Varga will keep an eye on you. Same goes for you Eve, spend some time together. No work or training allowed.'

Selene sighed but had no choice but to agree. Eve was relieved to spend some time together. She automatically grabbed her mothers' stuff from the chair, while Selene was almost out the door.

'She might think she is back to normal, but her body will need some extra time.' Connar said. 'Make sure she feeds and rests regularly. And do not negotiate working. I will come by in a few hours to check up on her.'

'I am still here and hear you just fine.' Selene called from the entrance.

'Good luck.'

'We're going to need that.' Varga laughed.

But Varga had been wrong. The first few hours, Eve could see her mother was struggling with Connar's orders, but she slowly started to relax. Not planning to leave her mothers' side, Eve decided to let the guard get some of her stuff. Varga left for some rest, while Eve got in bed next to her mother.

'I am glad you're here.' Selene confessed.

'Wouldn't want to be anywhere else.' Eve replied and closed her eyes.
