Stefan couldn't reach Damon, so he headed downstairs to check on Ally, and found she was asleep, and Caroline was sitting in a chair across from her. "How'd it go?" Caroline asked worriedly.
"He didn't answer," Stefan replied with a sigh. He peered down at Ally and shrugged his shoulders. "This is so crazy. I still can't wrap my head around it." Caroline smiled slightly at Stefan.
"She seems like a good kid," Caroline commented. Stefan nodded his head in agreement.
"Do you mind if I head over to the Grill and finish boarding it up?" Stefan asked. "I just need some time to clear my head."
"No….I can stay with Ally," she replied with a smile. "I have a feeling she'll be asleep for a while."
"Thanks Caroline," Stefan replied.
Stefan's phone rang as he was finishing boarding up the Grill's windows and boxing up all of its materials. He checked his phone to see it was Damon calling, and took a deep breath before answering it. "How's Europe?" he asked.
"Ric was kind of "meh" on the Mona Lisa...," he replied, and then paused for a moment. "Anything I should know about?" he asked with suspicion to his voice. At that moment, Stefan reconsidered telling Damon about Ally, thinking it may be better to tell him in person. It was exactly the kind of news to share over the phone.
"It can wait 'til you get back," Stefan replied. Not only did he have to tell him about his daughter, but so much more had happened in Mystic Falls since Damon went out of town with Bonnie and Alaric. Suddenly, the front door to the Mystic Grill opened, and Damon walked inside, looking annoyed.
"Well, I'm back! Want to tell me who the hell's living in our house?" he questioned with annoyance. Stefan began by explaining how Lily and her heretics were terrorizing the whole town, so they made a deal with Lily. They evacuated the entire town, claiming it was unsafe, and told Lily that any trespassers were fair game to her heretics. Stefan could sense Damon's frustration. He knew his brother would rather fight than give up Mystic Falls to the heretics, but Stefan didn't want to see anymore citizens hurt.
"The whole town would have been slaughtered," Stefan commented in defense of their decision. He sighed. "But we have an even bigger issue to discuss." Damon eyed him suspiciously. He couldn't imagine what could be bigger than the heretics taking over Mystic Falls.
"Lay it on me brother," he joked, "What could possibly be more important than this?"
"You have a daughter…and she's here," Stefan replied in all seriousness. Damon was quiet for a moment as he processed Stefan's words.
"Funny…..you almost had me there….but then I remembered, I'm a vampire," Damon replied with annoyance.
"I'm serious," Stefan replied. "Her name is Alessia Rist and she's 11 years old…..her Mom is….," he began when Damon cut him off.
"June," Damon replied. "Crazy witch," he sighed. "This is an all time low for her….claiming her bastard child is mine. Where is June? I'm going to give her a piece of my mind."
"She's missing, she left Ally a note and told her to find you," Stefan replied. "I know this sounds crazy Damon, but she actually looks like your daughter." Damon began to pace back and forth. He grabbed a bottle of bourbon from one of the boxes, opened, and sipped it as he paced. Stefan took a few steps away to allow his brother some time to process. After a few minutes, Damon stopped and approached Stefan.
"Let's kill the heretics and call it a day!" he announced. Stefan wasn't surprised that his brother was changing the subject. He always did have a hard time taking responsibility for any of his choices.
"We already tried that," Stefan replied
Damon scoffed, "You sent Donovan to blow up a house. Try harder."
"Look, the deal has been made. We don't mess with them, they don't mess with us," Stefan replied with frustration.
"That's very benevolent of you, brother. You should run for Mayor. Not that anyone would be here to vote for you," Damon replied sarcastically. Stefan approached his brother and stared at him.
"Look, what's done is done. Do not mess this up," he stated. "But seriously Damon, let's get back to talking about Ally."
"No Stefan, because if we talk about Ally that would mean that I'm entertaining this nonsense," Damon snapped. "I DO NOT have a daughter." Stefan shook his head with frustration. "And I can't believe you fell for it. Geez Stefan, have you ever heard of a real live dhampir? No, you haven't, because it CANNOT happen." Damon's voice echoed throughout the Grill.
"What would Elena want you to do?" Stefan demanded. Damon remained quiet for a moment, clearly affected by Stefan's question. "Even IF Ally is not your daughter, she needs our help and Elena would want you to help her. You know she would."
"Yeah, well, Elena's not here," Damon replied angrily. He threw the empty bottle of bourbon against the wall and stormed out of the Grill. Stefan sighed with frustration. He knew it wasn't going to be easy for Damon to accept the news, and knew his brother just needed time.
