Elliana woke up to an array of voices coming from the house. She wrapped the blanket around her shoulders and headed into the kitchen where she found two unfamiliar faces. "Oh, you must be Elliana," greeted Brianna with a smile. "I'm Bree, Claire and Jamie are my parents, and this is my husband, Roger." Ellie smiled in return at Bree and nodded at Roger. "You've been sleeping for a while. Can I get you something to eat?" Brianna offered.

"I'm ok," Elliana replied uncomfortably. "Where did Claire go?"

"She's with a patient," Brianna replied, "She should be finished soon. I brought a few of my dresses that we could have fitted for you."

"Oh, thank you, but I don't wear dresses," Ellie responded. Her response caused Roger to chuckle. "What's so funny?" she asked.

"Well, around here it's appropriate for girls to wear dresses," Roger explained.

"I never cared much about what's appropriate," she replied. Bree and Roger exchanged glances and decided not to take the conversation any further. Jeremiah came running into the room with a wooden, wagon toy and handed it to Ellie. She smiled and took it from him. "Vroom, vroom," she said as she pretended to drive it on the table. Jeremiah smiled, took the wagon, and ran off while Roger and Bree were left speechless by Ellie's "vroom, vroom".

"Vroom, vroom, huh?" Roger mentioned causally. Ellie looked up at him with surprise. "Interesting choice of words," he commented.

"My sister used to say it…..I don't know why," Ellie responded quickly. She could feel their eyes on her and she pulled the blanket around her shoulders tightly. She felt uncomfortable just wearing one of Jamie's shirts. "Do you know where my clothes are?" she asked them.

"I don't know," Brianna replied, "We can ask Claire when she's done." Claire hurried into the kitchen a moment later.

"Here you are," she smiled at Ellie. "Come into the parlor, Lizzie's going to fit some of Bree's dresses to you."

"I'd rather have my pants and shirt back," Ellie replied. Claire looked toward Brianna and Roger, and then back at Ellie.

"Well, I know it's not always ideal, but girls here wear dresses," Claire replied gently as she put her hands on Ellie's shoulders.

"I want my pants and shirt," Ellie replied rudely, slightly raising her voice. Claire was surprised by her response and wasn't sure how to proceed.

"You heard Mrs. Fraser," Roger interrupted firmly. "Now go along with her and be fitted for a dress."

"Uhhh," Ellie huffed with a little stomp her bare foot. "And if I don't?" Roger, Breanna, and Claire couldn't believe how Ellie was reacting.

"It's probably best you don't find out," Roger replied in disbelief. "I'm sure Mr. Fraser would not he happy if he hears you're disrespecting Mrs. Fraser in his home."

"Then I'll just leave," she announced as she stormed past Claire and into the adjoining dining room. She picked up the pace to a brisk walk and hurried for the front door. She stepped onto the porch and directly into Jamie.

"Going somewhere lass?" he asked as she looked up at him. Jamie was confused as Claire, Breanna, Roger appeared behind Ellie. "What's going on?" he questioned.

"I'm leaving," Ellie replied. "THEY want me to wear a dress and I just want my clothes back."

"Aye, I see," Jamie replied, "Sounds like quite the predicament." He took Ellie's hand gently and led her to the chairs a few feet away.

"We're going to get Jeremiah and head back to the house," Breanna said as she pat Claire's arm gently, "We'll see you later for dinner. There's something I wanted to talk to you about."

"Of course," Claire replied with slight smile. Breanna could tell her mother was stressed and was happy Jamie was there to help. Claire looked over as Jamie took a seat in the chair next to Ellie. She admired how gentle and understanding he always was when it came to children. It saddened her that he never had the chance to raise his own child. She walked over to where they sat and stood over Jamie.

"I ken ye were out there alone for a while," Jamie said to Ellie, "But ye're here now and we want to help ye. I ken that it disna seem fair but a lass wears a gown here."

"I don't like to be told what to do," Ellie huffed as she crossed her arms against her chest.

"Aye, that's understandable, but ye're just a wee lass and sometimes ye will need to do things ye dinnae want to dae," Jamie explained. "Did ye have a mother and father?"

"Yes," Ellie replied.

"And I supposed they told ye to dae things?" Jamie questioned.

"I guess," Ellie replied.

"And what happened if ye didna obey?" Jamie asked.

"Nothing," Ellie replied, "They were always too busy with work to care." Jamie and Claire looked at her curiously.

"Aye….well, we will expect ye to obey us while ye are here," Jamie replied firmly. "And that means ye need to be fitted for a gown."

"What happens if I don't obey?" Ellie questioned.

"Well…ye will have a very sore arse," Jamie replied firmly. Ellie didn't know what an arse was, but she knew she didn't like the sound of it either. It sounded unpleasant to her.

"What's an arse?" she questioned cautiously.

"Ye're bottom," Jamie replied. Ellie gasped and felt her cheeks flush red with embarrassment. She had never been punished for anything in her life and she didn't like the sound of Jamie's threat.

"I can just leave," Ellie huffed, "I don't have to stay here."

"Aye, ye can, but it can be very dangerous out there for a wee lass," Jamie replied.

"Ellie, we are both very patient and understanding, and we will do everything we can to help you," Claire interjected. "You are welcome to stay here for as long as it takes to find your sister." Ellie looked at up Claire and then over at Jamie. She thought they seemed sincere and trustworthy, and for the first time in months, she felt safe.

"Fine, I'll wear a dress, but I won't like it," she pouted with a defeated sigh. Jamie and Claire exchanged glances of approval and were both happy the child reconsidered her decision.

"I'm happy to hear that," Claire replied with a smile. "Come along, we'll have Lizzie fit a few to you." Ellie stood up reluctantly and followed Claire inside. Jamie was relieved he got through to her this time, but thought she seemed to be a stubborn lass and knew they would be butting heads again. Meanwhile, inside, Lizzie worked quickly to fit Breanna's dresses to Ellie before the child changed her mind.

"I'll have one of them finished for you before dinner," she said kindly to Ellie.

"No rush," Ellie replied. Claire chuckled at the Ellie's reply.

"Ellie, I'm going to have you stay with Jamie in his office while I see another patient," Claire said once they were finished.

"Ok," Ellie replied. She headed into Jamie's office to find him sitting behind his desk.

"Hi lass," he greeted.

"Hi," Ellie replied as she took a seat in the corner of the room.

"I was hoping I could some information from ye so that I can help find ye're sister," Jamie said. He watched as the child shifted uncomfortably in her chair. "What's ye're sister's name?"

"Megan," Ellie replied.

"Where's the last place ye saw her?" he questioned. Ellie shrugged her shoulders and pretended to be distracted by something outside the window. Jamie watched her suspiciously.

"Elliana," he interrupted. "Ye dae want to find ye're sister, dinnae ye?" Ellie shrugged her shoulders causing Jamie to become frustrated. "I need ye to answer ma questions lass," he stated firmly.

"Uhhhh," Ellie gasped. "If you must know, I don't want to find my sister. I hate her! She's mean and she doesn't care about me at all." Tears filled her eyes. "Do we have to talk about this?" Ellie wiped the tears from her cheeks. Jamie sighed. He really wanted answers, but he could see it was going to be a difficult conversation for her and decided Claire may have a better approach. "There's an indian outside! And he has a wolf!" Ellie gasped.

"That's ma nephew, Young Ian," he replied, "He lived with the Mohawk. That's his dog, Rollo, he's part wolf and part dog." Ellie's eyes widened with curiosity.

"Wow," she gasped, "Can I meet them?" Jamie smiled at her enthusiasm. Before he could respond, Ellie ran through the house and outside to the front porch as Ian was approaching. Ian smiled when he saw her. Jamie and Claire had already told him about their houseguest. As he got closer, he thought she looked familiar.

"Ye must be Elliana," he greeted.

"I am," she replied excitedly, "Can I pet your dog?"

"Of course," he replied. "His name is Rollo." Ellie approached the dog and started petting him as Jamie finally made his way outside. Ian watched her curiously, still thinking he knew her from somewhere. "Ellie, have we met before?" Ian asked. His question also caught Jamie's attention.

"No," Ellie replied as she looked up at him.

"Are ye sure?" he asked again. "Ye are so familiar."

"I said no!" she snapped rudely. Jamie stepped down from the porch and approached them.

"Ellie, that is not an appropriate way to address adults," Jamie stated. Ellie ignored him and continued petting the dog.

"It's all right Uncle," Ian commented.

"No, t'is not," Jamie replied as he took a hold of Ellie's arm.

"Ow," she protested.

"Ye need to apologize to Ian," he stated firmly. Ellie's eyes met Ian's and Ian finally realized how he knew the child.

"Uh, I'm sorry," she sighed. Satisfied, Jamie released her. Ellie wandered away from them to where Rollo rolled in the grass.

"We need to talk later," Ian said as he gestured toward Ellie. Jamie could sense the concern in his voice.
