Falling to the Plan

"I wonder how Jaune be doing" Carl moved his eyes to look at Foxy, mentally agreeing with him. It had been quite the day before, with them helping Team RWBY investigate Roman Torchwick's deals with the White Fang leading to a Paladin fight on the highway with Sun and Neptune.

The sentient Cupcake had actually been doing a different type of investigation, asked to him by his female parental figure, Chica. That was to sneak into Ozpin's office and look through the man's files. Carl wasn't really wondering why those people entrusted file searching to a limbless pastry but hey, he wasn't surprised with the fact that Yang agreed.

So Carl somehow managed to get into the elevator and up to Ozpin's office, where he learned some rather interesting things that he wished he could say…. Except all he can say is "Cupcake" making Chica look at him in a bit of confusion. Carl just shook his body in a 'don't bother'.

"Yeah, I don't think he got back to his dorm last night" said Chica, concerned on her face as she looked at the rest of the team. Currently, they were in the common room outside of the dorms, with Chica cooking a lot of food for the group, Foxy was cleaning his gear, while Freddy was rubbing a weird goo on his arms, Bonnie was reading the newspaper and Goldie was looking through his scroll.

"He could have gotten back before us" muttered Goldie, looking up from his scroll, before turning to look at Freddy "And what are you doing?" "Trying that weird salve that the paladin left behind. Says it can heal bone pains and my arms have been hurting" that made the others, bar Chica, pause. "When did that happen?" asked Bonnie, rightfully concerned.

"I think it was during the assignment for Port" Freddy thought, causing eyes to widen. "Cap'n, that was weeks ago!" Foxy looked panicked as he racked his brain for when Freddy could have hurt his arms that badly. It wasn't the Sharkraken that tried to sink them, nor was it that cyclops that lived in a cave and believed that Blake was Nobody and Foxy doubted it was Scylla and Charybdis, who had tried to destroy the boat by whirlpool or eating them.

That only left "Yggdrasil?!" cried Chica, making the others look at her. "Remember, right before that Snark grimm was killed, Yang threw a punch at Freddy and he blocked. But at that point, your aura was broken by Pyrrha." Carl snarled to himself, remembering the Legendary tier Squirrel Grimm that was making the two elder grimm fight.

Carl then remembered the effects of Ratatoskr,the mentioned legendary grimm, and how it whispered lies to anyone who hears, turning them against others. Its main "duty" was to make sure that the ash covered Yew tree was destroyed by the Elder Nevermore that lived on the tallest leaves and the Elder Nidhogg that made its home in the roots. As one of four entities unaffected by the Liar of the Tree's words, Carl had seen the battle between RWBY, JNPR and FNAF along with Ratatoskr's death at the hands of Foxy, Nora and Ruby, so he did see Yang break Freddy left arm.

"W-well, I didn't want you guys to worry, especially as Foxy's ship was breaking from both fights" "My ship can be repaired easily. Your arm? Not so much," Freddy rebuttal was cut short by a stern fox who then held out his hand. Freddy took the hand as Foxy said "Me and Cap'n will go watch Pyrrha and Team CRDL fight, you lot relax for once." Carl quickly hopped after them, leaping onto Freddy's shoulder to help the salve work faster. Endo 02 also got up to join them, saying that he was bored.

Endo 02 doesn't really get the point of spars but he was curious to see how the teacher measured the progress, as he explained to Foxy and Freddy. The two understood, giving Glynda a note saying that Freddy won't be able to spare for a while.

In reality, it was because he was curious to see how his pupils had gotten under his blade, although it hummored him a bit, so to say. As he sat, Cardin seemed to have noticed him and the two shared a nod, as the battle begun with Endo getting a little bit disappointed at the lack of teamwork. Sure, there was some combinations that indeed worked, but it ended in three minutes.

As Professor Goodwitch was about to ask Blake if she would like to fight, one of the new bloods offered, wanting to challenge Pyrrha. This made the previous Endoskeleton suspicious, as not many people challenged Pyrrha, especially after a one v four. Besides, it would be interesting.

"Yo, teach. Is it okay if I showed these new bloods a fight?" asked Endo 02, making everyone look at him, as he never asked for a challenge and was usually forced to do one. But the professor nodded, making Endo 02 go to get ready, although he saw a scowl on the challenger's face.

'Suspicious. What are you planning?' thought the endo.

Mercury Black watched as his new challenger stretched and twisted, a greatsword on his back. This was not how the plan was supposed to go when he challenged Nikos for her semblance, but the son of an assassin was curious about this unknown element as there was no information about an Eddy Skeleton. As soon as the bimbo of a teacher said "GO!" Enddy drew out his greatsword and blocked a swift kick to the head.

"Strong offence, but how are you defensively?" was asked, causing him to tilt his head as Eddy pushed his weapon, causing Mercury to become off-balanced and left open for a rather quick slash horizontally, taking a chunk out of his aura. Mercury back flipped, using the blow as momentum to land on his hands and spin kick the area, nailing Eddy five times before the greatsword was raised.

"SNAP" was yelled as Mercury was hit by an out of nowhere attack that flung him away from Eddy, making him look up to this opponent, who had his left hand resemble a finger gun and eyes wide, although it appeared his aura dropped more from it. Mercury replied with a blast from his leg, bullets nailing Eddy as the steel grey aura shuddered. This snapped his opponent out of the brief confusion as he swung his sword, generating a spark wave at Mercury, launching him back.

Soon enough, both fighters got out of their battle positions and Eddy spoke up "In light of that recent attack, I would like to end the duel, Ms. Goodwitch" which was agreed. Mercury and Eddy soon left the arena, a thought in mind

'How did that happen?'

It was now hours later and closer to night, with class ending, Freddy found himself alone in his thoughts as he walked the empty halls. The reveal of Endo 02's attack made way to a very swift training where they learned something new was now inside them. As he walked, he heard talking coming from a semi-opened door, a familiar voice talking.

Curious, Freddy crept closer, using his years of stealth to listen in. and his eyes widened as he did.

"Well I'm sorry I couldn't get the proper information. I really wasn't expecting that GUY to take Nikos's place." said the challenger from todays match. To the more oblivious people like Jaune, Nora or Yang, it would sound like he was a sore loser, but to someone like Freddy, a master of emotions, he sounded pissed.

"It is quite alright, Mercury, we did get some information about one of the Wild Cards, did we not?" spoke a calm, mature voice, sounding around Professor Goodwitch's age. "Unfortunately not, Cinder. Eddy Skeleton never used his semblance and I doubt that finger gun gesture was it." a different voice spoke up, making Freddy ears twitch as he tried to remember where he heard that, when he suddenly felt his sleeve getting tugged. He looked down to see a familiar set of pink and brown eyes looking at him, causing his own eyes to widen, although he didn't say anything as she pulled him away.

When they stopped, Freddy pulled his arm out of her grip and glared. Unknowingly to him, his eyes lost their blue color and became black with white dots. "What are you doing here?" he asked, in a tone that meant no hiding it. The girl mutely sighed before showing Freddy a message that explained that she wasn't here to fight but to gather information.

"...Information on what?" Freddy said, oblivious to the secret he was being given.

Welcome to the New Year and hopefully, 15 more chapters of Second Chance!

I have plenty of ideas for later down the line, so I apologise if everything seems rushed. Especially now that Volume Nine has been announced with a new theme around it.

I'm excited for that.
