Yugo and Yuto continued their chase through the streets of the Synchro Dimension in search of Yuri while on Yugo's D-Wheel.
"Damn...we've been chasing this guy for hours...and the invasion of this dimension had already begun...!" Yuto grunted in anger.
"Do you think we lost him?" Yugo asked in a worried tone.
"I refuse to believe that...this is our best chance at getting Ruri and Rin back...we can't afford to give up!" Yuto determinedly shouted.
"But Yuto...we are leaving all of our friends to fend off the Academia alone...shouldn't we be helping them...?" Yugo asked.
"...No. we need to focus on finding Yuri. I'm sure that everyone else can handle the Obelisk Force." Yuto told the boy.
"That's not what I'm worried about. Remember when the Professor sent all of those crazy strong elites to deal with us? What if they did the same thing again and we aren't there to help fight against them?!" Yugo questioned.
"...We've come too far to just give up now. We have to see this through. I'm sure the others will handle the rest." Yuto said, angering Yugo.
As much as he wanted to rescue Rin, he felt horrible leaving Yuzu, Kurosaki, Yuya, and everyone else to fen for themselves.
But before either boy could say anything else, their eyes widened as they saw a purple blur running down a flight of stairs and into a subway tunnel in the distance.
"There he is!" Yugo yelled.
"We can't waste this chance! Let's go!" Yuto shouted as Yugo headed for the subway tunnel entrance.
Though exhausted, Yuzu and Sora continued to run to safety.
"There it is!" Sora grinned as he pointed at an entrance to a subway tunnel.
The two ran down the steps and fell to the ground, completely out of breath.
"Now what?" Yuzu questioned.
"Now we wait. I'm sure your comrades will defeat the Obelisk Force like they did in Standard. Although it may take a little longer this time due to the Professor sending a lot more soldiers then last time." Sora explained.
"I don't like this...everyone is out there fighting against Academia while I'm hiding." Yuzu said as she grabbed her arm.
"Trust me, it's better this way. If the Professor gets you, he will be one step closer to completing his plan." Sora comforted the girl.
"What about Serena? They're probably hunting her too..." Yuzu said in a worried tone.
"I don't think you'll have to worry about her. After all, she had Yuya with her, right? I'm sure he's doing everything in his power to protect her." Sora told the pink haired girl.
"Must be nice..." Yuzu pouted while crossing her arms.
"Is someone jealous?" Sora grinned, nudging the girl.
"J-Jealous?! Serena's my friend! Of course I wouldn't be jealous...she's just lucky to be with Yuya...that's all." Yuzu blushed.
"Wait...are you two...a thing?!" Sora gasped.
"We've been together...for a little while now...since the night you..." Yuzu trailed off.
"Since the night I tried to card Yuto and was sent back to Academia." Sora finished her sentence.
"...That's right." Yuzu nodded.
"As I said before, I'm really sorry for everything. The time we all spent together meant the world to me. And as your teacher, I'm so proud of how strong you've become." Sora sincerely spoke.
"Thanks, Sora." Yuzu smiled.
"Though, you didn't have to go off and learn Xyz Summoning..." Sora grunted.
"Well, I didn't exactly "learn" how to Xyz Summon...it kind of just happened. And the only reason I was able to Xyz Summon was because I was fighting for my life against Academia..."
"That's...fair. Who did they send after you anyways?"
"I think his name was...Johan..."
"Johan? The guy with the crystal beasts and the huge dragon? You defeated him?" Sora questioned, causing Yuzu to answer with a nod. "Wow, that's awesome! I'm proud to call you my student, Yuzu."
Yuzu smiled at the boys words but her expression quickly changed.
"Sora...are you really against Academia?" Yuzu asked.
"...I can't support what they are doing anymore. You and Yuya taught me that dueling is suppose to be fun, not a tool of war." Sora explained.
"So you no longer believe in their goal to create a utopia?" Yuzu questioned.
"Ever since the Standard Invasion...I did some investigating in Academia...and some of the things I've seen...like what they are doing to those girls...I can't justify it anymore. The utopia Academia is trying to create doesn't deserve to exist if the only way to obtain it is through all of these inhumane acts." Sora's voice fearfully shook.
"Sora...what did you see...that scared you so badly...?" Yuzu asked.
"Well...for starters...those girls...Rin and Ruri they are no longer themselves..." Sora uttered, remembering the duel he witnessed between them and Yuri.
"What do you mean by that?" Yuzu questioned.
"The soulless look they had in their eyes...it was like they were being controlled...or even possessed..." Sora nervously described.
"...Oh my god..." Yuzu gasped in horror.
"If you were captured because of me...and they did something like that to you...I wouldn't be able to live with myself..." Sora choked on his words.
"...Sora..." Yuzu uttered before hugging the boy.
The two embraced in silence for a few moments. Though the situation was grim, Yuzu was happy she had her friend back.
"Priority target acquired."
Yuzu and Sora whipped their heads around to see a trio of Obelisk Soldiers with their duel disks activated.
"How did you-"
"Check your duel disk."
Sora lifted his arm and noticed a small blinking tracker under his duel disk.
"Don't tell me...Yuri..." Sora gasped as he tightened his fist. Of course Yuri didn't trust him.
Sora then took the tracker off and threw it on the ground, causing it to shatter.
"It's over for you, traitor." The Obelisk Red growled.
"No more running, little girl! The Obelisk Yellow grinned.
"I'm sorry, Yuzu." Sora said in failure.
"Don't worry, we'll defeat them together!" Yuzu determinedly shouted as she activated her duel disk.
"That's right!" Sora smirked as he activated his own duel disk.
"Let the hunt commence!" Obelisk Yellow sneered.

… the screen falls to reveal the Fusion Counterparts falling into darkness. Yuri grins wickedly as his eyes are whited out by a violet glow. Behind him is the shadow of an older boy, face obscured with a monstruous, inhuman smile on his face. Above him, Serena holds out her hand, desperately trying to reach her former friend. The gem on her bracelet shines like a star, cutting through the miasma that surrounds them. Behind her is the golden spirit of an older girl, trying to reach out to the figure behind Yuri as tears flow. The older teens vanish as the Fusion Counterparts' silhouettes turn to black and a large, sinister pair of draconic eyes open wide behind them.
I'll Challenge All My Limits
Crow, Kiryu, the Black Rose Witch, and Jack race in a line on the highway and call forth their dragons; Black-Feather, Infernity Void, Black Rose, and Red Daemon's.

On his D-Wheel, Yuya extends his arm outwards as Enlightenment Paladin begins to glow and evolves into a blue and golden warrior with a large sword. The swordsman hovers over Yuya with Odd Eyes Rebellion on it's right and Odd Eyes Wing on it's left.
The Ending Of This Story
Yuri stands in a dark tunnel with a monstrous grin with Starve Venom and Greedy Venom behind him. To his sides are Ruri and Rin with soulless eyes. Behind the girls are Independent Nightingale and Crystal Bell respectively.
I Will Hold It Close As I Wonder So Aimlessly
Yuto and Yugo closely race next to each other on the highway as Dark Rebellion and Clear Wing flew through the sky. Yuto slaps a card on his duel disk causing Dark Rebellion to be consumed by flames and evolve into Dark Rebellion Apocalypse. Yugo throws a card on his duel disk and reaches his hand out to the sky as Clear Wing shined and evolved into Crystal Wing. The two dragons fly at each other full force as and smash their heads against each other as Yuto and Yugo yell with glowing indigo and cyan eyes.
Into This New World
The scene changes to Yuya standing beneath a blue landscape. A pendulum swings above him, draw arcs of light across the sky. Yusho's face is shown over the center of the arcs, smiling down at his son with pride.

The screen flashes to Reiji with D/D/D Hell Armageddon on his field sternly standing in front of the laughing Hell Kaiser with the roaring Cyber End Dragon. The scene changes to a worn out Serena and Yuzu kneeling in front of the soulless Rin and Ruri, with the silhouette of Parasite Fusioner behind them. The scene shifts again to Yuya, Yuto, Yugo, and Yuri standing across from each other with glowing eyes and spiked up hair as their dragons roared. The four dragons crash against each other causing a bright light to engulf the screen. The song ends with a shot of the Lancers on the highway in the Synchro Dimension looking up at the screen with the three Yu-boys in the center, each sharing a look of determination.

"My Hound Dog will attack you directly!" Obelisk Green shouted, but Yuzu leaped onto a nearby platform.

"Not this time! Unlike the other two copies on my field, my Hound Dog's effects aren't negated! Meaning, you can't activate Spells Or Traps when this card attacks!" Obelisk Green countered as his monster struck Sora, sending him flying through the air.

The sword's tip was red and it also had orange shards protruding throughout it's body.

Yuzu yelled as the blue haired girl in a yellow dressed appeared. The girl had blue flowers protruding from it's shoulders.

Yuzu shouted as her monster's singing created a green hurricane of wind that consumed the recently revived hound.

"DAMN YOU!" He shouted before hitting the ground.

"Time to wrap this up." Sora said as he bit down on the lollipop in his mouth, causing a shiver to be sent down the remaining soldier's spine. "My turn! From my hand, I summon Furnimal Mouse!"

Out of the fusion vortex a blue demonic plushy wolf appeared. It had scissors on it's body that were used to connect it's limbs and a pair of red eyes that were shrouded in darkness within the wolf's mouth.

"Damn right. Go, Scissor Wolf! Second Attack!" Sora commanded as his monster changers forward and viciously slashed through the hound.

"By targeting C/C/C Rock Sword the Embodiment of Fused Arms, any effect damage that's less then it's ATK is negated!" Reira explained.
"Thanks, kid." Sora said to the boy who nodded in response.

"No way...!" Sora gasped.

"No...I can't lose hope..." Yuzu said to herself before turning to her fusion ace. Bloom Diva gave the girl a kind smile before protectively floating in front of her.

The four mechanical beasts started to swirl in the fusion vortex as the soldier began to chant.
"Mechanized hound dogs that inherit the ancient soul! Merge those ten heads, unleash chaos, and become tremendous strength! FUSION SUMMON! Come forth! Level 10! Antique Gear Chaos Giant!"
Out of the vortex, a gigantic mech appeared with dark blue armor that resembled the hound dogs in shape. The monster was so huge that it destroyed the roof of the subway tunnel that was above the soldiers.

"Bloom Diva's effect activates! You're monster is destroyed instead and you take any damage I would take! Reflect Shout!" Yuzu shouted as his monster began to sing, creating a green whirlwind that momentarily blocked the giant's fist.
"When Chaos Giant attacks...all monsters on your field are negated!" Obelisk Green maniacally shouted, causing Yuzu's eyes to shake in fear.
"...I...lost..." Yuzu gasped in terror as she sank to the ground.
"Our mission is finally complete! CRUSH OF DARKNESS!" Obelisk Green violently screamed.
The green whirlwind dissipated, causing the fist of the giant to descend. The attack decimated the fairy-type, causing a powerful explosion.

A D-Wheel came flying down from the giant crack in the ceiling of the subway with two people on it, and landed in front of Yuzu.
The boy driving it protectively jumped in front of Yuzu with his duel disk activated.
"Soul Magician's effect activates in my hand! When a player would take battle damage, the damage is reduced to 0 and I can special summon this monster!"
A magician clad in green robes appeared in front of the explosion.

The magician held out it's hands, using all of it's strength to summon a large magical green shield. The shield protected the two from the explosion causing Yuzu to look up in awe at the sight of her savior.
"...Yu...ya..." Yuzu uttered in disbelief with tears forming in her eyes.
"I finally found you, Yuzu." Yuya softly smiled at the weakened girl.
"DAMN YOU!" Obelisk Green shouted. They were so close to completing their mission. "Take this! Chaos Giant, attack Soul Magician! CRUSH OF DARKNESS!"
The giant swung it's fist once more, demolishing the magician.
"Turn end! You will be captured! THERE IS NO ESCAPE!" Obelisk Green yelled.
"You hurt Yuzu...Sora...and Reira..." Yuya uttered as he looked at his love and his unconscious friends. He could feel his anger rising, but due to Yuzu being by his side, he restrained his anger to prevent himself from going berserk. "I...am going to make you pay...for all the pain you've caused! MY TURN!"
"You've signed your death warrant by intruding into this duel!" Obelisk Red angrily shouted.
"No...you have signed your death warrants by hurting my friends!" Yuya declared with anger in his eyes. "With the Scale 2 Entermate Drumming Kong and the Scale 8 Timegazer Magician, I set the Pendulum Scale!"

Two bright lights shot out of the portal revealing the red dragon with red and green eyes along with a creepy fiend whose body looked like two u's put together.

There are 7 cards on the field! Therefore, you take 1400 damage!" Yuya shouted as his monster fired multiple bullets directly at the Obelisk Red.

Yuya shouted as his monster fired a barrage of bullets at the Obelisk Yellow's monster, causing a powerful explosion that consumed the soldier.
"GRAAAAH!" Obelisk Yellow yelled in pain before hitting the ground.

"No...YOU'RE GOING TO BURN FOR HURTING MY FRIENDS!" Yuya angrily shouted as his eyes began to glow red.
"Yuya, fight it!" Yuzu cried as she tried to approach the boy, but stumbled due to her injuries.
Yuya glared at his remaining opponent with glowing eyes before grabbing his head in pain. The boy shook his head while growling in pain, causing his eyes to stop glowing.
"Grr...this is the end! By releasing a level 5 or higher monster on my field, I can Advance Summon this monster from my hand! I release Entermate Gatlinghoul!" Yuya shouted as he held up the remaining card in his hand.
Yuya's fiend was surrounded by a circle of flames. The flames then began to rise covering up the monster and the form of a larg dragon could be seen from within the circle of fire.
"Dragon with burning dual colored eyes, evolve pass your limits and incinerate the darkness with your eternal flame! Come forth! Level 8! Odd Eyes Advance Dragon!"
Out of the circle of fire, a winged dichromatic dragon appeared with sharp red armor on it's body.

"T-That's...4500 damage...!" The soldier uttered in disbelief.
"Make him pay, Odd Eyes Advance Dragon! BURNING ASSAULT!" Yuya commanded as his dragon flew flew the air and charged through the center of the gigantic monster, causing a powerful explosion that sent the soldier flying through the air.
"DAMN YOU!" He screamed before hitting the ground next to his incapacitated comrades.

The group of defeated soldier vanished in a bright light that left just the Lancers and Sora in the subway.
"...Yuya..." Yuzu uttered in pain as she stumbled a bit, causing Yuya to run over to her in concern.
"Yuzu, are you ok?!" Yuya questioned in concern.
"I'm fine...thank you...for saving us..." Yuzu smiled.
"Don't worry, Yuzu. I won't let them touch you!" Yuya shouted, making the girl feel better.
"Wait...is that Serena?" Yuzu questioned as she pointed to the unconscious girl who was on Yuya's D-Wheel.
"She's was greatly injured during our last duel in the Friendship Cup and she was recently forced to duel again despite her weakened condition. I told her to rest until I found you that way she could regain her strength. What about Sora and Reira?!"
"The Obelisk Force's plan was to weaken Sora and Reira that way they wouldn't be able to help me...they ended up passing out but I'm sure it won't be long before they awake..."
Yuya looked saddened as he looked at his injured friends. But as Yuzu stared at the boy, she could tell that there was a deeper meaning to his sadness.
"Yuya...is everything ok?" Yuzu softly asked.
"Huh?"
"...I could feel it watching you duel...something happened..." Yuzu said in concern.
"..." Yuya remained silent, not being able to make eye contact with the pink haired girl.
"What happened...?" Yuzu asked, almost afraid to head the answer.
"I...broke our promise...I had to duel Sergey Volkov...and I threw away the dueling I believed in...so I could win...!" Yuya choked on his words, not being able to say much more before falling to his knees. He couldn't bare to describe his actions any further.
"Sergey Volkov..." Yuzu said, remembering her scary encounter with the cyborg and the Black Rose Witch. She knew first hand how terrifying they were and was thankful that Yuya and Serena came out victorious in the end.
Yuzu wiped the tears off Yuya's face and held his face in her hands while kneeling down to his level.
"...Did you hurt him...?"
"...You don't understand...he threatened that he would hurt everyone I care about...and I couldn't let that happen...I had to stop him...but in doing so...I failed you...mom...dad...everyone..."
"...Is he...?" Yuzu trailed off while afraid to hear the boy's next words.
"Yes...he's gone..." Yuya answered with pain and sorrow in his eyes.
Yuzu looked at the red and green haired boy in disbelief for a brief moment.
Yuya was then surprised as Yuzu wrapped her hands around Yuya.
"...Yuya...I'm not really sure what happened...but I know that you are a loving and kind person with a great heart. You are fighting so hard to protect me and to stop this war. Your parents and everyone at You Show would be so proud of you. You are not a failure." Yuzu warmly said, making Yuya's eyes widen.
The two embraced each other for a moment that lasted forever. Yuya couldn't help but be uplifted by Yuzu's words. Despite everything, she still believed in him. If she wasn't giving up on him, he shouldn't give up on himself either.
"Thank you...Yuzu..." Yuya said with a small smile.
"Yuzu...Yuya..." Serena uttered as she awoke on the back of the D-Wheel.
"S-Serena! You're awake!" Yuya gasped as the two hopped up.
"Serena! It's been so long!" Yuzu shouted in relief before running up to the girl and hugging her. Serena blinked in surprise before embracing her counterpart.
"...About time you showed up... " Sora playfully grumbled, causing Yuya to whip his head around. To his surprise, he saw Reira and Sora standing up.
"Sora! Reira! You guys are ok!" Yuya smiled.
"T-Thank you for helping us...Yuya..." Reira softly spoke.
"No...thank you for making it all the way here to help Yuzu. I know for a fact that Reiji is super proud of you." Yuya patted the boy's head, causing him to smile.
"Soooo...I hear you and Yuzu are a thing now~" Sora made a kissy face while nudging the red and green haired boy, making him blush.
"S-Sora, this isn't the time!" Yuya said in embarrassment.
"Hehehe..." Sora laughed.
Yuya then held up his fist, surprising the blue haired boy.
"Sora...thank you for going so far to protect Yuzu and for defying Academia. I'm glad we're friends again."
"You and Yuzu are my best friends...I'll do anything to protect you guys. Even if it means defying Academia for good." Sora smiled as the two fist bumped.
Suddenly, loud foot steps echoed throughout the tunnel, causing the group to tense up.
A muscular man with blue hair and an eye patch walked out of the shadows with an Academia duel disk on his arm.
"B-Barrett...?!" Serena gasped in an uneasy tone.
"It's you...!" Sora uttered in shock.
"It seems like the two traitors have finally been found. But luckily for you, Sora Shuin'in, you are currently not my concern." Barrett said before turning to Serena. "You know why I'm here. It's time to go home, Serena."
"No...I'm won't go back!" Serena shouted, although her voice was shaky.
"The Professor is impressed with how much you've grown, Serena. He told me that if you were to return to Academia, you would finally be able to join the front lines as a soldier of Academia." Barrett offered.
Serena looked up at Yuya and Yuzu before turning to Barrett with an irritated look on her face.
"...I've learned about the crimes of Academia...the real Academia...and I refuse to be an underling of the devil!" Serena defiantly shouted.
"Serena, you don't mean that-"
"I do! I use to think the soldiers of Academia were noble warriors fighting for a greater cause...but there is nothing noble or honorable about destroying an entire dimension and sacrificing so many innocent lives!" Serena yelled.
"All of those sacrifices won't be in vein once the utopia is created by the Professor." Barrett argued.
"The Professor is nothing but a manipulator and a liar! He kept me locked up in a tower, promising that one day, all of my dreams would come true! He'll say or do anything to get what he wants! How can you fight for someone like that?!" Serena questioned.
Barrett coldly looked at the girl and sighed before activating his duel disk which had an orange blade.
"It seems like you have made up your mind, Serena. Although I commend you on your resolve, it pains me to see how damaged your loyalty has become. It seems like you have been poisoned by the son of the Professor and the rest of your new friends. I'll deal with them and then I'll take you back to where you belong. And while I'm at it, I'll capture Yuzu Hiragi as well." Barrett angrily said, scaring Yuzu and Yuya.
"The only thing my friends have done is show me the truth! I won't let you touch them!" Serena shouted as she began to step forward but Yuya held out his hand. "Yuya?! What are you-"
"Let me take care of him, Serena." Yuya told the girl.
"But this is my fight, not yours!" Serena argued.
"You still aren't in a good condition to fight. I'll keep him busy while you guys make a run for it." Yuya said as he activated his duel disk.
"But we just reunited! I don't want to lose you again!" Yuzu cried.
"Yuzu...I broke the promise I made you before we came to this dimension...but I won't break the promise I made to protect you and Serena!" Yuya determinedly shouted.
"...fine. I trust you." Yuzu nodded, doing everything she could to hold back her tears.
"Thank you, Yuzu." Yuya smiled.
"Grr...damn it! You better not get yourself killed, Yuya!" Serena shouted in a mixture of guilt and anger.
"Don't worry, Serena. We still got a tournament to get back to, right?" Yuya said with a wink.
"R-Right...we can't keep Crow waiting too long." Serena said through her guilt.
"Sora, Reira, I trust you guys to get them away from here." Yuya said, turning to the two boys.
"You got it." Sora nodded.
"We will protect them...!" Reira said in a quiet yet determined tone.
The group then ran off with Yuya staying behind, facing off against Barrett.
"So you offer yourself as bait to allow your friends to escape? You are a noble soldier." Barrett told the boy.
"I'm not some roadblock that's going to slow you down temporarily...I'm the one that's going to defeat you and stop your pursuit of good!" Yuya angrily shouted.
"I see...in that case, I will make you realize the grave mistake you just made by thoroughly crushing you in the name of Academia! Let's see how long you can hold out for your friends?" Barrett seriously yelled.
"Bring it on! I won't let you lay a finger on Yuzu and Serena!" Yuya defiantly roared.

Though the card once brought a smile to his face, now it just reminded him of how he failed his parents and Yuzu by succumbing to his anger.
'No! I can't think about this right now! I have to protect Serena and Yuzu. I have to win!' Yuya thought to himself, shaking his head.
"I can tell your thoughts are clouded. The only way to gain true strength is to release your unnecessary attachments that way you can focus on your goals and getting stronger." Barrett told the boy.
"Grr...shut up!" Yuya growled before regaining his composure. He looked at Odd Eyes who gave him a nod of reassurance. He remembered how he put his trust in Odd Eyes during their previous duel and he was going to have to do that again. "Let's do this, Odd Eyes-"
"Continuous Trap, Beastborg Medal of the Iron Chain activate! As long as I control a Beastborg monster, the monsters you just special summoned can't attack and they can't change their battle position!" Barrett explained.
"What?!" Yuya gasped as chains shot out of the card, binding the dragon along with the Entermates.
"As long as I control a Beastborg monster, your monsters are useless!" Barrett yelled.
"That's not true! Drop Gallop's other effect! I can change it's level to any number between 1 and 4! I choose level 2!"

I target Enlightenment Paladin!" Barrett shouted as red chains shot out of the card, binding the swordsman.
"You had the perfect counter ready...!" Yuya gasped in disbelief.
"This is the true strength of Academia!" Barrett shouted as even more chains shot out of the card and wrapped around Yuya.
"What the hell?!" Yuya yelled while trying to break free.
"Beastborg Medal of the Crimson Chain's other effect prevents the controller of the targeted monster from activating Spells or Traps. Also, you can no longer normal or special summon monsters!"
"So I really...can't do anything..." Yuya grunted in sadness.
"Your two monsters cannot attack while you cannot make any other moves. This duel is hopeless for you. Step aside now and allow me to capture Yuzu Hiragi and Serena and I will spare your life. This is your final chance. If you don't comply, I will not show you mercy." Barrett warned.
"No...even if the odds are stacked against me...there's no way in hell I'll just let Yuzu and Serena get captured!" Yuya declared with determination despite the situation.
"Impressive resolve. If you wish to continue, end your turn and we will see how long that resolve of yours holds out!" Barrett shouted.
"I...end my turn..." Yuya begrudgingly concluded as the blue magician's Pendulum Scale returned to normal.

"Grr..." Yuya grunted as he struggled to his feet.
"Have you had enough?!" Barrett questioned.
"...No...I won't let Yuzu and Serena down...I will protect them, no matter what! I will defeat you!" Yuya shouted he stood firm with his arms bound to his sides.
"You're wrong. Much like the chains that currently bind you, you are bound by your relationships with your friends which prevents you from becoming stronger. If you weren't so focused on what everyone thinks of you, you may be able to stand a chance against me." Barrett explained, causing something to click within Yuya.
Yuya thought about how he was always so focused on the crowd, his father's ideals, or his friends during duels which often caused him to become distracted.
"That's what makes Academia so strong. We only focus on the goal we share, nothing else matters." Barrett exclaimed, causing Yuya to grit his teeth in anger.
"...Nothing else matters...how...how could you say such a thing?! All of the people that have suffered because of Academia matter! That's just your way of not thinking about the consequences of the terrible things Academia has done!" Yuya angrily growled.
"All of those who have lost their lives to the Dimensional War have been sacrificed for a greater purpose. Their sacrifice will lead to the birth of a utopia!" Barrett proudly yelled.
"A utopia stained with blood is no utopia!" Yuya shouted.
"Your naive words do not phase me. Take your turn." Barrett sternly said, causing Yuya to grit his teeth in anger.
Yuya looked up at his dragon and swordsman with worried eyes. His monsters were rendered useless with those Continuous Traps on the field. Not only that, he barely had any life points left and Predator Panthers effect would finish him off next turn. And even if he somehow survived that, he would also have to fend off attacks from Barrett's monsters. And worst of all was he couldn't even summon monsters nor activate Spells and Traps.
"...I couldn't keep my promise of dueling for what I believe in...and now I can't even keep my promise of protecting Yuzu and Serena..."
Yuya bowed his head in sadness, causing his hair to cover his eyes.
"...I'm sorry...Yuzu...Serena...everyone..."

Suddenly, everything began to go dark around Yuya. The only thing he could hear is the roar of Clear Wing Synchro Dragon, Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon, and Starve Venom Fusion Dragon.
His vision changed to see Yuto, Yugo, and Yuri facing off against each other.
Everything went dark once more and a familiar pitch-black shadow with yellow eyes appeared in front of Yuya.
"The time has come for our revival. You cannot fall here! We must become one!"
Yuya could hear the sound of Odd Eyes roaring, causing his eyes to begin glowing red.
All the memories of Yuya's friends and family began to fade away in his mind. The only thing that filled his head was the echoing roars of the four dragons.
"What the hell?!" Barrett shouted in concern as a dark aura surrounded Yuya. The boys hair completely spiked up and his eyes began to glow red.
"RAAAAAAAHHH!" Yuya screamed as the chains that bound him shattered.
"Impossible!" Barrett gasped.
"You are nothing but a puny soldier blindly fighting in a meaningless war! MY TURN!" Yuya shouted as he drew a glowing card. "I'll show you the power of a god! Odd Eyes Spark Dragon's effect in my hand activates!"
A new yellow dragon with red and green eyes appeared that wore dark blue armor.
"A monster effect from the hand?!" Barrett shouted in shock.
"By sending this card from my hand to the graveyard, Spells or Traps on your field are destroyed up to the amount of Odd Eyes Pendulum monsters on my field! I choose to destroy Beastborg Medal of the Crimson Chain!" Yuya declared, pointing at the Continuous Trap. The dragon became pure electricity before zapping Barrett's card. As the card was destroyed, the chains around Enlightenment Paladin dissolved into particles. "Then, I can draw a card for each destroyed Spell or Trap! I draw one card!"
"So you managed to figure out away to get around my card's effect. And despite your monster being able to attack, it still has 0 ATK! Nothing has changed!" Barrett shouted.
"That's not true. Since your card was destroyed, I can now freely summon monsters and activate Spells and Traps!" Yuya shouted before grabbing another card in his hand. "I'll destroy your pathetic monsters with your own power! I activate the Spell Card, Fusion! I fuse Odd Eyes Pendulum Dragon and Enlightenment Paladin!"
Yuya's dragon bursted out of it's chains before flying into the fusion vortex alongside the swordsman.
"Magician swordsman of awakening! Become dazzling lights and dwell in the eyes of the dragon! Fusion Summon! Come forth! Level 8! Rune Eyes Pendulum Dragon!" Yuya shouted as his dragon appeared that instead of horns, had a small ring around it's head and a large ring attached to it's back.

"You fused your monsters together...!" Barrett uttered in shock.

The two Pendulum Dragons roared at the opposing Beast-types who were growled back.
"Since the level 8 Enlightenment Paladin was used as Fusion material, Rune Eyes Pendulum Dragon's effect allows it to attack five times!" Yuya declared as the ring on the dragon's back began to shine.
"Five attacks?!" Barrett gasped.
"You're finished! BATTLE! Rune Eyes Pendulum Dragon, attack Beastborg Wolf Kampfer and Beastborg Panther Predator! CONTINUOUS SHINY BURST!" Yuya ragingly shouted as his dragon fired a powerful blue stream of energy from it's ring. The blast consumed Barrett's field, destroying both of his monsters and sending him flying through the air.
"GRAAH!"

"THIS DUEL IS NOT OVER! Panther Predator and Wolf Kampfer's effects activate! When these cards are destroyed by battle, I can special summon their fusion materials! Come, my army!" Barrett shouted at two machines and two beast-warriors appeared on his field.

"Grr..." Barrett grunted from the shockwave that the attack caused.
"Go, Odd Eyes Pendulum Dragon! Attack Carrier Sentinel! Spiral Strike Burst!" Yuya commanded as his ace fired a spiraling red blast that destroyed the machine. "You won't escape defeat again! I set two cards facedown, turn end!"
"You are quite special. There a very few duelist who can escape my chain lock. In that case, I will now show you my true strength! MY TURN!" Barrett shouted as he powerfully drew. "I activate the Spell Card, Pot of Greed! I draw two cards! Next, I activate the Spell Card, Beastborg Revenge! I can special summon all Beastborg monsters that were destroyed by battle during the previous turn but with their effects negated! Revive, Beastborg Panther Predator! Beastborg Wolf Kampfer!"

Yuya shouted as a new mechanized beast appeared. This beast was completely covered in silver armor and wore blue armor with a red cape. The monster had several golden metals on it's chest. It carried a large sword in one hand while the other hand a large silver claw.

"Trap Activate! Damage Diet! The effect damage I would take is halved!" Yuya shouted as a semi-transparent barrier prevented appeared. The missiles clashed against the barrier, creating a powerful shockwave that knocked Yuya to the ground.

"Trap Activate! Defense Draw! I don't take any damage from this battle and then I can draw a card!" Yuya shouted as the cyborg slashed through his ace.
"It's not over! Savage General's effect activates! During the Battle Phase, by releasing a Beastborg monster on my field, this monster can make an additional attack! I release Wolf Kampfer which is then banished due to being summoned by Savage General's first effect!" Barrett shouted as his monster dissolved.
"Grr..." Yuya grunted.
"I sword an oath to carry out the Professor's will! I will capture Serena and Yuzu Hiragi in order to bring forth a utopia! Go, Savage General! Attack Rune Eyes Pendulum Dragon and end this duel! PRIMAL APEX SLASH!" Barrett shouted as his monster slashed through Rune Eyes with it's claw and sword, causing a powerful explosion.
"Entermate Balloon Barrier Tapir's effect activates! By discarding this card, the damage is reduced to 0!" Yuya shouted as he discarded the card he had just drawn through Defense Draw's effect.
"You're luck will only get you so far! I set a card facedown, turn end!" Barrett concluded.
"My turn! I activate the Spell Card, Odd Eyes Draw! I can draw a card and if it's an Odd Eyes monster, I can send it to the graveyard and draw cards depending on it's level!" Yuya shouted as he violently drew. "The card is the level 7 Odd Eyes Arc Pendulum Dragon! Therefore, I draw three cards!"
Yuya looked over his cards before glaring at his opponent with hate in his eyes.
"Now, I activate the Quick Play Spell, Pendulum Shift! Through this card's effect, I can change Xiangke Magician's Pendulum Scale to 1 until the end of this turn!"

I target Odd Eyes Pendulum Dragon! Do it, Odd Eyes Clear Magician!" Yuya roared. The magician pointed it's prismatic blade at the dragon and fired a beautiful green beam of energy. The energy was absorbed into the dragon, giving it a green aura.

"Dragon with dual colored eyes! Gain the shining wings of light! Soar to the summit of supremacy! SYNCHRO SUMMON! Come forth! Level 8! Dragon with piercing eyes of breakthrough! Supreme King White Dragon - Odd Eyes Wing Dragon!"
The red and green eyed hybrid dragon with white and black armor and sharp light blue crystals appeared with a powerful roar.

"By targeting a special summoned monster, it has it's effects negated and it cannot attack! Also, it's ATK points are halved! And card remains on my field as long as I control a Beastborg monster! I target Odd Eyes Wing Dragon!"

"Grr...you bastard...!" Yuya grunted as he looked at the restrained Supreme King White Dragon. "I set a card facedown, turn end! At this moment, Pendulum Shift's effect ends."

"This is the final turn! MY TURN!" Barrett shouted as he drew. "Savage General's effect activates! Revive, Beastborg Predator Panther!"

"And due to Savage's General's effect, you take 800 damage! DIE!" Barrett screamed as his monster fired a powerful red blast at Yuya.
"Entermate Rain Goat's effect in my hand activates! By discarding this card, the effect damage is reduced to 0!" Yuya countered as his monster shielded the boy.
"No matter, this is the final attack! BATTLE! Beastborg Savage General, attack Odd Eyes Wing Dragon! PRIMAL APEX SLASH!" Barrett shouted as his monster raised it's blades to the sky as it leaped above the white and blue dragon. "You fought valiantly like a true soldier...but your final fight ends here! YOU'RE FINISHED!"
"...My revival is so close..I'LL DO ANYTHING TO SEE IT THROUGH!" Yuya said in a demonic tone as his eyes flashed yellow for a brief moment. "TRAP ACTIVATE! IRON RESOLVE! GRAAAAH!"
Yuya screamed in agony as he was hit by a burst of electricity.
YUYA: 50-25 LP
"By paying half of my life points...I DON'T TAKE ANY DAMAGE AND THE BATTLE PHASE IS FORCED TO END!" Yuya shouted like a mad man as the cyborg's attack stopped within inches of hitting the dragon.
"Damn it...I set a card facedown, turn end!" Barrett concluded.
"I...will defeat you-" Yuya began before losing his balance.
The weakened berserk duelist kneeled on the ground before the Academia duelist due to his exhaustion and injuries from his duels against Sergey, the Obelisk Force, and Barrett. Despite being in his berserk state, his body couldn't physically keep up with all of these hard fought duels.
"You have fought countless battles without giving in so you can to protect your friends. I commend you for your loyalty. But alas, you will fall as a brave soldier in battle if you do not submit." Barrett said with some respect for the red and green haired duelist.
"I...am no puny soldier...I am...THE SUPREME KING!" Yuya roared as his pendulums began to shine.
As Yugo and Yuto raced through the subway in search of Yuri, felt a familiar sharp pain in his chest, causing him to stop the D-Wheel.
"Yugo?! What's wrong?!" Yuto questioned as Yugo began to fall off the D-Wheel.
"I...feel like my energy...is being drained...like before..." Yugo uttered as his Clear Wing Synchro Dragon shined.
Yugo closed his eyes, seeing a weakened berserk Yuya with a dark shadow with yellows eyes behind him.
"GRAAAH!" Yugo growled in pain as his eyes began to blink with a turquoise glow.
Yuya was covered in a powerful dark aura as he stood up with his left eye now glowing turquoise while his red eye continued to glow red.
"What the hell...?" Barrett uttered as he noticed the boy's different colored eyes.
"This is...THE FINAL TURN! MY TURN!" Yuya shouted as he powerfully drew. "I activate the Spell Card, Pot of Greed! I draw two cards! DRAW!"
Yuya looked at his two cards before looking up at his opponent with glowing eyes.
"Nothing will stop us from becoming one! With the set scale, Pendulum Summon! Come forth, my most loyal servant! From my Extra Deck, Odd eyes Pendulum Dragon!"
Odd Eyes Pendulum Dragon (2500/2000) LVL: 7
"Odd Eyes Clear Magician's Pendulum effect activates! I can target a dragon-type monster on the field and change it's level to 1! Also, the target becomes a tuner monster! I target Odd Eyes Wing Dragon! Do it, Odd Eyes Clear Magician!" Yuya roared. The magician pointed it's prismatic blade at the dragon and fired a beautiful green beam of energy. The energy was absorbed into the dragon, giving it a green aura.
Odd Eyes Wing LVL: 7-1
"Now, prepare to feel true despair! I tune the level 1 Odd Eyes Wing Dragon to the level 7 Odd Eyes Pendulum Dragon! Dragon with dual colored eyes! Dye your wings in the depths of the hopelessness and return all things to the void! SYNCHRO SUMMON! Come forth! Level 8! The forsaken dragon who heralds ruination! Supreme King Despair Dragon - ODD EYES EXTINCTION DRAGON!"
In a large flash of dark light, a new menacing dragon appeared beside Yuya. The dragon had red scales that were covered by ghostly white armor. The dragon had six crystalline wings that gave off dark turquoise light. The dragon's crystal wings were extremely sharp and jaded, with multiple cracks on their surfaces. The dragon had muscular arms and deadly sharp claws. Like the Synchro Dragons, the dragon had a large tail covered in white armor for it's lower body. But, the tail had a large prismatic blade at the end. The dragon had a sinister green orb in the middle of it's body that acted like void, consuming the light around the dragon. The dragon's red and green eyes shined through the darkness as it maliciously roared.
Odd Eyes Extinction Dragon (3000/2500) LVL: 8
"Odd Eyes Extinction Dragon's effect-"
"THIS BATTLE IS OVER! Continuous Trap, Beastborg Medal of the Golden Chains activate!" Barrett shouted as golden chains wrapped around the terrifying dragon. "While this card is on the field, your dragon has it's effects negated and it cannot attack! Also, you take damage at the end of each of your turns equal to half of your dragon's ATK as long as this card is on the field! YOU HAVE LOST!"
"You think so...?" Yuya questioned in a demonic tone.
"What?!"
"I activate the Spell Card, Magical Thunder! By discarding a Spell Card in my hand, I can target and destroy a card on the field!" Yuya sinisterly spoke.
As the berserk duelist tried to grab his Smile World Spell Card, his heart began to rapidly beat.
Looking at Smile World caused memories to flood his mind. He remembered teaching the kids at You Show how to duel. He remembered dueling for fun with Yuzu, Sora, and Gongenzaka. He remembered Shuzo and his mom giving him encouragement. He remembered watching his Dad entertain an entire stadium using Smile World.
"N-No...I can't..." Yuya uttered as his eyes flickered from glowing red and turquoise to their normal color.
"Do it."
Yuya shook his head as his hand trembled.
"Do it!"
Yuya's hand began to pull away from his father's card that represented everything he stood for.
"I...refuse...!"
"Why do you still hold on after all of the pain you've received?!"
As the voice in his head got louder, his vision began to go dark once more.
Yuya's vision then changed back to the day his father never showed up to his duel with Strong Ishijima. He remembered the pain he felt as people called his father a coward.
"They were right to call him a coward."
"N-No..." Yuya uttered as he shook his head.
His vision then shifted to the a memory of Yuya getting bullied by a group of kids when he was younger. They made fun of him for his Dad going missing due to not wanting to duel his opponent.
"You endured so much pain for a man that abandoned you."
"I...I...can't believe that...there had to have been a reason..." Yuya weakly argued.
"Why do you follow the ideology of a man who didn't stick around to watch you grow up? How can you defend him for abandoning you? His philosophy is pointless."
Yuya's vision then changed to the crowd of the Synchro Dimension cheering after he sent Sergey plummeting to his death.
"You believe in making people smile with your dueling. You also believe that dueling shouldn't be used to hurt others.And yet, you can't do both with the people in this dimension. They crave violence. They crave destruction. The only way to make them smile is to duel violently which contradicts your beliefs."
"...No...I can show them a better way...!" Yuya said, but it was clear that he was unsure if he could actually do what he said.
"No, you can't. If you don't comply with what they want, you'll never be able to make them smile. Forget the philosophy of the man who abandoned your family. Focuse on becoming stronger!"
"Becoming...stronger..."
"You'll never be hurt by others again! You'll never have to worry about making others happy again! Become stronger! Become one!"
"Become...one..."
"It is our time to reign supreme! Now reject your father's ideals so we can become one! DO IT!"
Yuya looked up as his eyes flashed yellow before regaining their red and turquoise glow.
"Like you said before...I will throw away my attachments to focus on my goal...destroying you and becoming one! I discard the Spell Card, Smile World to destroy Beastborg Medal of the Golden Chain!" Yuya yelled as a green lightning bolt shot out of the card and obliterated the Continuous Trap, causing the chains to disperse. "Now, my dragon is finally free!"
"Tch...my Savage General still surpasses your dragon!" Barrett shouted.
"I activate the Equip Spell, Supreme King's Wing!This card can only be equipped to a Dragon-type monster special summoned from the Extra Deck!I equip it to Odd Eyes Extinction Dragon!" Yuya shouted as his dragon's six cracked wings emanated a bright turquoise glow. "BATTLE! Odd Eyes Extinction Dragon, attack Beastborg Panther Predator! CALAMITY VOID BREAK!"
The dragon roared as it's wings began absorbing the light around it, similarly to a black hole, causing it to gain a sinisterly dark aura. The dragon flew forward at incredibly fast speeds, slicing through the beast-warrior with it's sharp and jaded crystalline wings.
"Predator Panther is now banished due to Savage General's effect. And since my monster was in defense mode, I don't take any damage!" Barrett shouted as he struggled to keep his footing due to the shockwave caused by his monster's destruction.
"Odd Eyes Extinction Dragon's effect activates! When this card destroys a monster by battle, it gains the destroyed monster's ATK! DRAINING MIRROR!" Yuya shouted as the dragon's eyes glowed while it's wings began to absorb the remaining particles of the destroyed monster, causing the green orb in it's core to gain a grin glow.
Odd Eyes Extinction (3000/2500)-(4600/2500)
"It's not over! Odd Eyes Extinction Dragon's other effect! After this card destroys a monster by battle, it can attack another monster!" Yuya shouted as his dual colored eyes vibrantly shined while his dragon screeched.
"Another attack?!" Barrett gasped.
"Odd Eyes Extinction Dragon, attack Beastborg Savage General! TEAR IT TO SHREDS! CALAMITY VOID BREAK!" Yuya shouted as his monster absorbed the light around it, causing dark energy to surround it. The dragon let out a terrifying screech before rocketing through the cyborg, causing a powerful explosion.
"I will...endure it!" Barrett exclaimed as he crossed his arms in front of his body. The soldier stood through the explosion, causing his arms and clothes to be scorched.
BARRETT: 1800-200 LP
"Grr...I won't fall until Serena and Yuzu are captured!" Barrett determinedly shouted as he stood strong before pointing at the dragon. "Your dragon's effect will not trigger since there are no other monsters on my field for your dragon to attack! YOU WILL NOT DEFEAT ME!"
"Hehehe...HAHAHAHA!"
The demonic duelist's slight chuckled became a demonic laugh, worrying the fusion user.
"Supreme King's Wing's effect activates! Once per turn, when the monster this card is equipped to destroys a monster by battle, the owner takes damage equal to it's ATK!" Yuya explained with a demonic grin.
Barrett's eyes widened before he closed his eyes and looked down in defeat.
"I'm sorry...Professor..."
"Do it, Odd Eyes Extinction Dragon! DESTROY HIM!"
At Yuya's command, the dragon released a powerful turquoise blast from it's glowing wings that smashed into Barrett, sending him flying through the air and into a nearby wall.
BARRETT: 200-0 LP
WINNER: YUYA!
"Grr..." Barrett grunted as he struggled to keep his eyes open before his duel disk began to blink.
Unlike after the conclusion of most duels, Yuya still remained berserk even after his defeat. His left eye's turquoise glow was replaced with a red glow just like his right eye. The boy's hair was completely spiked up, resembling the hair that the dark shadow had in his visions.
"The only reason I decided to spare your life is because I want you to send a message to Leo Akaba..." Yuya sternly spoke in a demonic tone.
"The...Professor...?" Barrett weakly questioned.
Yuya grabbed the man by the collar and pulled him upwards towards his face.
"Tell that bitter old coward that I'm coming for revenge...AND HE WILL NOT ESCAPE MY WRATH!"
Yuya's eyes flashed yellow as his dark aura briefly took the form a sinister looking dragon.
Barrett then passed out as his duel disk shined. Yuya dropped the man as he was enveloped in a bright light and disappeared.
The boy then turned around and began to walk in the direction of his counterparts. Their duel was going to begin soon...
With Yuzu's group
After running through the subway for a while, Reira fell to his knees due to exhaustion.
"Reira!" Yuzu shouted in concern before kneeling down to the boy's level.
"I'm sorry..." Reira fearfully apologized.
"There's no reason to be sorry. We're all exhausted." Serena told the boy.
"If we don't keep moving-"
Before Sora could finish his sentence, another wave of Obelisk Force soldiers stepped into view.
"...Great..." Sora grumbled.
"Let's take them on together!" Yuzu shouted as the four activated their duel disks.
"You won't be dueling them..."
"...you are our prey!"
"Who the hell is..." Serena said as she turned around but didn't finish her sentence due to the shock she received.
"...No way...it can't be...!" Yuzu gasped in disbelief, realizing who the people in front of them were.
Two girls stood before the group with their Academia duel disks activated.
One of the girls had green shoulder length hair. She wore a blue and white jacket with pink pads on the shoulders and elbows, pink shorts, and white and pink boots that reach up to her thighs with pink kneepads. She wore a metallic bracelet with small green gem set in the center of an ornate spiral design that rests over a series of three stacked rings. She had soulless orange eyes and a sinister smirk on her face.
The other girl had very long dark purple hair. She wore a pale, cream colored vest secured with the same colored belt. Underneath, she wears a three-split, periwinkle dress and black pants; both held up by two brown belts. She wears her long, Resistance scarf hanging from the right side of the belts. Her clothes are accompanied with brown boots covered in buckles. She wore a thin bracelet with a wing-shaped design framing a yellow, diamond-shaped jewel. She had lifeless pink eyes and a sinister grin on her face.
"...Their faces...look just like yours...!" Reira gasped as he turned to Serena and Yuzu.
Serena stared in disbelief at the sight of her two counterparts while Yuzu looked at their abnormally lifeless eyes. She remembered what Sora had told her before causing a shiver to run down her spine. She absolutely wouldn't be captured. She wouldn't let something like that happen to herself or Serena.
"How did you escape the Professor?!" Serena questioned.
"We didn't escape..." Rin began.
"...we were enlightened!" Ruri finished, causing Serena to frown.
"Don't tell me...!" Serena gasped before looking down at the Academia duel disks that they wore.
"Be careful, they aren't themselves!" Sora warned.
"Their being controlled, Serena..." Yuzu uttered in sadness, causing Serena's eyes to widen.
"C-Controlled...?!" Serena choked on her words.
The Professor never did something like that to her. How could she have tried to please someone who would resort to such inhumane tactics?! If she stayed in the Fusion Dimension any longer, would she have been brainwashed too?!
"We will defeat and capture both of you!" Rin shouted.
"We will carry out the will of the Professor and the Doktor!" Ruri declared.
"The...Doktor...?" Serena repeated in confusion.
"I don't think I've ever heard that name before..." Sora trailed off.
"We will complete our mission! For Academia!" Ruri and Rin shouted in unison.
Yuzu looked down, thinking about Yugo and Shun. She remembered how determined their teammates were to save their loved ones. She remembered how she promised to help them save Ruri and Rin and now she was being given a chance to keep her promise. She was determined as ever to save her counterparts and reunite them with her teammates.
Serena remembered how kind and accepting Yuzu, Yuto, Yuya, and Yugo were despite her once being apart of Academia. She was determined to save Ruri for Yuto, save Rin for Yugo, and protect Yuzu so she can be together with Yuya.
As Yuzu and Serena steeled their resolve, both felt a mysterious yet strangely familiar presence as their bracelets blinked in unison.
"Save them!"
And done! It feels so good for the plans I made for this mini arc nearly two years ago to finally be written! The next two chapters are going to be extremely epic and chaotic so be ready!
So a bunch of plot points happen in this chapter that are setting up for the next few chapters. Yuto and Yugo arguing. Yuzu witnessing Yuya's brutal dueling but still believing in him regardless. Sora being officially done with Academia and ready to fight alongside Yuya and Yuzu. Serena denying her previous dreams and refusing to return to Academia. Yuya losing his mind. Zarc/Yuya threatening the Professor. And most excitingly...the reunion of the bracelet girls, albeit two of them aren't really themselves. And Ray finally making an appearance so that the world doesn't end. We'll see a bit more of in the next few chapters.
Although I haven't started Scale-44, I am nearly finished with the big duel in Scale-45 so the wait between it and Scale-44 won't too long.

I also plan on Yuya getting a Synchro and Xyz Entermate and Yuto getting a Fusion PK (waaaaaay down the line may I add) so this is actually really neat.
