The Future's Young Fingerprint

Somewhere near Larousse City, Hoenn. 29th June, 2033. 1:27am.

Older Dawn and Older Paul dodged some bushes, Belle in Paul's hands. The blunette stomped her feet on the ground. "How much longer?" she groaned impatiently. Older Paul just shook his head and walked ahead of his wife carelessly, knowing she would follow behind. Sure enough, she did.

"Paul!" she yelled. Older Paul'd finally had enough. She'd been complaining non-stop for the past thirty minutes, and it was giving him a migraine.

"What Dawn?!" he thundered. She immediately silenced behind him, not daring to say a single word, though their daughter started crying. Older Paul groaned out loud. Older Dawn immediately grabbed Belle and rocked her in her arms. "Shh…" she whispered into the little one's ear. Older Paul silently sat down underneath a tree, trying to take control of his actions and emotions once again.

A few minutes later, Belle quieted down and lulled herself to sleep. Older Dawn breathed a sigh of relief and looked around for her husband. "Paul," she sat down next to him after placing their daughter atop her thick, blue jacket. "Hmm?" "What's wrong?" she asked. He just shook his head.

Older Dawn then proceeded to grab both of his hands and pull them into her lap. "Paul," she called again. "Tell me. Please." The man turned to her and laid his head down on her lap. Surprised, she started raking her fingers through his hair. "This is just like that one night ten years ago," she remembered. Older Paul let out a small gentle smile as he recalled the memory.

Ten years ago…

The moon shone brightly among the stars that reflected onto the lake.

"There!" Dawn called. "I see it!" she jumped around happily, flailing her arms around excitedly. Paul chuckled. "I can see that," he acknowledged. Dawn turned to Paul, her eyes gleaming. "Thanks Paul," she told him sincerely. Paul blushed, but quickly hid underneath a nearby tree to get ahold of his fluttering heart.

Dawn noticed his sudden change of mood. "Paul," she sat down beside him. "Are you alright?" Paul stayed silent and secluded as always. Dawn folded her arms. "Paul Rebolledo. Answer me right now." she huffed. Paul looked at her wordlessly.

"Paul I swear-" Suddenly, her sentence was cut off with an unexpected kiss. Paul soon broke away with a red face. "I-it's alright," he spoke quietly as he turned away. "I know you probably don't like me like that," he said, standing up. "I'm sorry." he apologized sincerely. "I-I'll go now," he started walking, but to his shock, Dawn grabbed his hand.

He looked back down at her. "Stay." was all she said. And he did. He silently put his head on Dawn's lap and looked up into the moon-filled night. Dawn streamed her fingers through his soft purple locks. A while later, she started humming a song that rang throughout the entire forest; the profound sound of peace.

Present day…

"Hmm," he hummed in affirmation. "It was a great night," he told her as he shifted himself to get a better view of her face. Older Dawn smiled. "Mhm," she regarded him. Suddenly, a clap of thunder rang from the sky. They exchanged looks and nodded to each other.

Older Paul grabbed Belle once again, and they embarked on their journey. The thunder rang once again, only this time sounding closer. Older Dawn looked around the area.

"There!" she yelled as she pointed up a large mountain. Older Paul looked up in horror. "How the hell are we supposed to climb that?!" he yelled. The bluenette shrugged. Her husband slammed his palm onto his forehead. "What about there?" Older Dawn asked him.

Older Paul opened his eyes, expecting a worse spot, but was pleasantly surprised to find a level cave not too far way. He turned to his wife. "Who knew you could do something right?" he commented. "Paul!" Older Dawn fumed. Older Paul just chuckled lightly and made his way to the cave.

Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck the sky, and it started pouring heavily, causing Belle to wake up once more. "Shit," Older Dawn muttered under her breath as she took off her jacket and put it over Older Paul and Belle. "Thanks," Older Paul grunted as they ran into the cave. "No problem," Dawn panted from beside him. Older Paul quickly grabbed his Pokétalk and pressed a button near the antenna's base. "We're here. I send you the coordinates. Be quick, it's raining,"
