Over the years, the surrounding mountains, streams and forests have barely changed. The only proof of time moving forward were the changing of the seasons. Otherwise, everything seemed to stay the same. Everything, that is, but the animals that also lived off the lands here.
On a secluded mountain trail, a young boy with a tail was balancing on top of a large log. Using his own weight to move the large piece of wood forward, he hummed happily to himself. A rather large saw was slung over one of his shoulders, with the teeth of the object pointed away from his neck.
He had used the saw to cut the log that he was now walking on, using his own body weight to get the wood rolling. One side of the trail that the boy was on, was a very tall mountain which held the forest that the log had come from at the very top. On the other side of the trail was a steep cliff that dropped dangerously into a large lake at the bottom. Passing a small tree, the boy noticed a baby monkey getting caught by an older one. The baby chittered happily, waving it's arms about as the boy passed them by, clearly oblivious to the near-death it had just experienced.
"Hi!" he smiled at them. "Just hanging around huh?" As he says so, the mountain trail that he was traveling on suddenly took a steep decline. The log that he was on rushed forward, going three times as fast as it had been a moment ago.
Instead of falling off or becoming scared from the sudden danger, the boy laughed and simply moved faster to keep up with the new pace. Every once in a while, the boy jumped high in the air and landed on the log again with perfect balance, as though he needed to make this dangerous game more challenging for himself. As though he were an acrobat, he jumped and flipped in the air with ease. Giggles left his mouth as he landed safely again, thrilled at the random challenge this was and how easily he was able to accomplish it.
Not too far away, another young child with a tail swung through the trees. She used her arms and legs to launch herself from one branch to the next. Every once in a while, she would flip in the air between branches and land with perfect ease a moment later.
If she missed a branch with her arms, her tail would grab it instead and swing her around to the next branch. She laughed happily, perfectly comfortable with her game, and picked random fruits from the trees as she happened upon them. An old basket was currently strapped to her back, and she used it to carry whatever small fruit she got. Somehow, even with all of her tricks in the air, no fruit that went in basket would come back out.
A small, red hut appeared in the clearing of trees up ahead, and the girl hopped down from the tree that she had been in. She landed on the ground with a soft thump and began to hum to herself as she walked towards the hut.
When the girl reached the hut, she took off the basket from her back and looked inside of it. It was almost completely full with fruits- which were mostly apples and peaches. At the sight of the food, her stomach grumbled.
"Hmmm, what to eat?" She asked herself, and looked up from the basket thoughtfully. She placed the basket just outside of the hut and against the four pots that were there. "Maybe Goku would help me look through that cave again? There could be a tasty rex still living in there..." Just as she was about to walk away from the basket and go look for her companion, her stomach rumbled again. The girl paused and her green eyes slowly looked back at the basket. Almost predatorily, she licked her lips. The girl walked forwards and opened the basket a second time.
"Just one or two will be fine..." she mumbled to herself as she took a bunch of fruits and piled them in her arms before she closed the basket. With a swift look around the area, the girl looked hungrily at the food in her arms as she made her way to a shady spot under a tree, which was a little ways away from her home. "Goku wont mind if I have a small snack first." she told herself as she sat in the soft grass. She ate her peaches and apples happily while watching the clouds.
Before she knew it, her eye lids started to get heavy. Within moments of finishing her afternoon snack, the girl had fallen asleep, calmed by the coolness of the breeze and soothed by the warmth of the sun.
He used more strength than what was necessary as he jumped farther ahead of the log that he had been rolling. The boy with the tail landed just in front of a small red hut, and turned to face the log that was speeding along towards him.
The saw that he had been carrying landed beside the hut, leaning against the wall, just beside an old basket. A smirk tugged at his features and the boy confidently moved into a fighting stance. He drew in a deep breath and his body grew tense with anticipation.
Just before the log was about to bulldoze him, the boy punched the ground where the log was about to roll over, which made it fly high into the air. With a determined shout, the boy jumped up after the log and kicked it hard at it's center. Cracks splintered outwards from the impact point, all across the surface of the log, before the wood split into perfectly cut pieces. The boy landed in a kneel and the wood stacked itself in a neat pile just behind him.
Hands on his hips, the boy looked at his handy work proudly. "That takes care of that!" he happily sang, then looked around. He saw the basket of fruit beside the hut but not the person that was supposed to be with it.
"I wonder where Ruko went off to..." the boy wondered and his tail swished behind him impatiently. His nose twitched as he took in a deep breath, but the area was already saturated by his and his companion's scent from all of the time that they spend here. He would have to look without using his nose.
First he wandered into the hut and checked the inside. But his companion was not to be found there. Then he looked around the outside of the hut, in case she had decided to hide from him. Still not finding her, he decided to look near the trees, to see if she had gone back to get something. He called out his companion's name, but again, there was no response.
After a few minutes of searching, he felt rather relieved when found his friend sleeping in the grass, under the shade of a tree. He smiled, happy to have found her.
"Ruko!" He called happily, and walked over to her side. He stopped near her head and crouched down near her shoulders when she didn't respond. "Ruko...!" Goku called again. All he got was a twitch of her tail. The girl's eyes moved under her eyelids rapidly. One hand was on her belly while the other was up by her head.
With narrowed eyes, an evil smirk came to the boy's face when she continued to be stubborn. He let out a small sigh, "ya do this to yourself..!" Then, with zero care for his friend, he layed himself down heavily on the girl's stomach and began to roll around on top her. "Ruuuuuuko...!"
That got a response. The girl groaned, irritation clear in her tone. "Sleeping...!" she growled drowsily, which had the boy stop and look at her. "Shoo... Goku." She mumbled, and her tail coiled around his before it dragged the boy off of her. Goku let himself be pulled all the way off of Ruko before he pushed himself up onto his elbows and pouted at her.
"But Ruko...!" He whined, "I wanna play!"
In response, Ruko rolled so her back was towards him and her tail curled around her leg lazily. With another protesting whine, Goku sat up and pouted. He wanted attention, and didn't like being denied of it. Quickly though, an idea came to him. Goku snapped two fingers in excitement before he jumped up to his feet. He ran off in the opposite direction and back towards the hut.
"I should go and get lunch! That'll wake Ruko up!" Goku said eagerly, and a big grin came to his face. He ran back into the hut and grabbed a red rod that had a matching sheath. Tying it on so that the rod rested comfortably on his back, the boy nodded to himself. "I'm gonna go and get some food."
He looked up to a small golden ball that was kept on a red pillow, on top of a wooden dresser. The golden ball could easily fit in the young boy's hands, and it had four orange stars inside of it. Goku walked over to it, and placed his hands together as though in prayer. Bowing down slightly, the boy looked at the ball sadly.
"Grandpa..." he breathed in slowly, then stood up straight. "Stay there, okay? It won't take long, I just gotta go and get some food for Ruko. I'll be right back!" Just as he had turned around, the boy heard a strange noise. His eyes widened as he quickly turned around and faced the ball. It was glowing. It had never glowed before.
"Woah, I've never seen ya shine bright like that before, grandpa...!" the boy spoke with awe, "how strange... Maybe Ruko's seen ya do that before? ...Think ya can do it again?"
The ball didn't respond though, staying still and quiet. Goku tilted his head to the side, waiting a few more minutes before he frowned slightly.
"Well... ya can wait till later if you have to." he conceded, realizing that the ball wasn't going to do it again. He smiled again, and waved at it good bye. "I'll see ya in a little while!"
With that done, Goku took off into the forest on his self-proclaimed mission. When he was a decent ways in, Goku slowed down to a walk as he began to think. He crossed his arms in front of himself and tilted his head to one side as his eyebrows furrowed in concentration.
"Now what should we have to eat today...? Hmmm... So hard to decide..." His stomach rumbled. "How about ya decide then for me then, tummy?" After a moment he tilted his head to the other side. "Fish?"
A smile made it's way to his face, "Yeah! Fish! That sound's great!" He jumped up, and grabbed a cloth rope that Ruko had made, before running straight for the lake that was nearby. Goku laughed at the butterflies that he always got in anticipation for the dive into the water. Just before he was about to let go of the rope, his eyes landed on an apple tree on the opposite side of the cliff that he was about to jump off of.
"Ah.. but first! I want a little snack." he decided and let go of the rope so that he could land on the other side of the cliff rather than in the water.
Climbing up the tree, Goku sat on a sturdy branch before he reached up and grabbed a big red apple. His tail wrapped itself around the branch with ease in order to help him keep balanced. Lazily, Goku let himself slide backwards so that his knees were holding him onto the branch and looked at the world upside down as he chewed.
Goku ate the apple upside down and hummed happily as his tail pulled him right side up when he finished eating it. "That was good!" he sighed, then looked from the next closest apple to the water below. He threw the apple core that he had over his shoulder, and decided to pick one more apple. It wouldn't hurt to have another, right?
The apple core from his first apple, however, landed on the head of a sabertooth tiger that happened to be passing by. It looked up angrily at the boy with a tail in a tree. The animal watched as the the boy's tail twitched behind him, as though to taunt the large cat.
The saber growled, walking forwards to Goku and watched as Goku turned to look over his shoulder. The boy only had the time to take one bite of his second apple before the sabertooth had jumped up at him. It would have gotten him too, if Goku hadn't plunged forwards and used his tail to spin under the branch in order to make a clean get away.
The saber leapt over the branch, through the exact spot the boy had been sitting a moment ago, then landed heavily on the ground. The saber's body shook in anger as it turned to face Goku, gnashing it's long teeth together in warning. Goku laughed at the display, thrilled from his survival by a hair's breath, and decided that he wanted to play some more. He dropped down from the tree and then ran around the area as the saber started to chase him.
"Catch me if ya can!" Goku giggled, as the saber missed when it lunged for him again. He ducked under one massive paw, and felt the wind from the attack brush through his hair. "Missed me! Hee hee! Almost there~"
As Goku spoke, he seemed to disappear before the sabertooth tiger's eyes. Before the saber could react, it had already run off the very high cliff that Goku had just fallen off himself. The large cat fell into the river below.
Goku, however, had caught the branch of a tree that was sticking out over the side of the cliff. It just so happens that this was the tree that he had passed earlier when he was on the log, where a baby monkey was caught by an elder one before it could fall into the river below.
Goku grinned, and his hand tightened around the branch that he hung off of as he began to laugh at the saber's bad choice in selecting it's prey. Only, with a snap of the branch that he had been holding, Goku began to fall into river too. Surprised, he let out a short yell as he quickly plummeted, before he managed to twirl in the air and face the oncoming water head on.
With his breath being held, Goku put his arms ahead of him to break his fall in the water, and tucked his chin to his chest. The water swallowed his body whole, and the boy shivered from the sudden rush of cold that surrounded him like a blanket. Not letting that bother him though, Goku swum up to the surface and began to follow the current.
It didn't take Goku very long to get to the very lake he had been planning on jumping into only a little while ago. His body bobbed as he made sure to swim like he had seen the frogs do, and made his way to the shore. A big smile was on his face as he climbed up, and shook the water from his wild hair.
"That was great!" He said to himself, as he peeled off his wet gi. The water was wrung out of it, and the dampness was shaken out before Goku put the gi pants and shirt on a dry rock to sun-dry. This left him without any clothes on, but the boy hardly cared. "That atta do it!"
The sound of a fish jumping in the water behind him caught Goku's attention. He was reminded of why it was that he came out to the lake in the first place. The grin on his face grew to something almost devilish.
"Time for some tail fishing!" he chimed and stretched his arms up, the black tattoo on his upper back- which went from one shoulder blade to the other- shifted seamlessly with his skin.
Groggily, Ruko slowly woke to a noise that she had never heard before. It was distant, but it echoed across the mountain range like an angry bee. She sat up, and quickly snapped awake when she noticed that the noise was only getting louder. Quickly, Ruko jumped up from her comfy spot on the grass and ran over to the red hut, then jogged around to the front door.
Briefly, she noticed the new pile of wood that had been stacked at the side of the house, before Ruko took a quick look around to see if she could spot Goku. Not seeing him, she turned towards the direction the noise came from instead. It seemed as though it were coming from the old path that led off Paozu Mountain.
Ruko had been staring at the path when she noticed Goku in the distance, on his way over to her. A large fish- at least twice the size of Goku's small body- was being dragged behind the boy, which caught the girl's attention right away, and that alone made her tummy rumble. She loved fish. So with a big grin on her face, Ruko sent Goku a wave, to try and get him to bring it over faster.
Goku grinned when he spotted Ruko as she waved to him. He was glad that she was up on her own, but he also felt a bit of disappointment at the lost opportunity of teasing her awake with the fish. He would just have to be quicker next time.
A rumbling noise met Goku's ears and he looked back over his shoulder to see what it could be about. But his eyes widened in surprise when saw a large metal object come into his line of sight, speeding directly for him. It's frame was based off a rectangle, four round wheels allowed it to go forwards and glass windows allowed occupants to see out of the thing as it traveled. It raced up the path at top speed, and tore up the ground behind it, as though the metal thing couldn't get away from where it had come from fast enough.
Ruko ran forwards at the sight of the danger, wanting to help her friend as he tried to run out of the way of the speeding monster in a panic. At the last minute, the monster swerved to it's left and made a screeching noise, but it had been going too fast.
It hit Goku- the fish flew with him since he didn't want to let it go- and he crashed into a nearby tree. Goku face planted in the tree, only to fall off of the thing a moment later and landed with a thump beside his fish.
Ruko had arrived by then, and began to inspect the boy for injuries as she helped him up to his feet.
"Are you okay?!" she asked him as she patted down his arms and shoulders to make sure nothing broke.
"W- what the?!" He asked, and his voice shook. "Ugh.." With wide eyes and a pale face, he looked as though he had just seen his life flash before his eyes. His entire body shook as he struggled to get back up to his feet.
Seeing him shake, Ruko took the red rod that had been strapped to his back and angrily turned to stand protectively in front of him. Holding the red rod like a deadly weapon, Ruko slowly approached the monster that had attacked Goku.
"Your alive...?!" a surprised voice questioned from within it, and that made Ruko growl.
"Thought ya'd finished 'em off, huh?!" she angrily yelled out at it, and she heard Goku growl in response from behind her.
"Well your not gonna get our fish that easy, ya big monster!" Goku yelled out, and both kids ran forwards. They took either side of the monster's hard shell and easily lifted it up high over their heads. "This is for hitting me!"
The large monster yelled out in fear as they threw it, and it fell on it's side heavily. Two of it's limbs popped off and rolled away, but that didn't seem to bother it at all- unless it was now dead.
Ruko held the red rod threateningly once more, as the tailed boy stood beside her in a defensive stance, his fists balled up so tightly that his knuckles had turned white. Both their tails lashed out behind them angrily as they stared at the monster impatiently. Goku and Ruko had fought off many monsters together, but this was the first time that one didn't get back up after it was thrown only once.
"There! That'll teach ya not to take our fish!" Ruko growled triumphantly, and trusted the red rod in her hands forwards to jab at the monster's body. "Sneaking up on Goku like that... We're ready for you this time!"
"Yeah! Why don't ya come out of that shell and fight already?!" Goku added, while he puffed up his chest and hit his knuckles together threateningly. They both saw the head of the monster poke out of the side of the large shell.
Goku gasped, "a hideous demon!" he called, rather appalled. Ruko's eyes went wide as she stood beside him in her own fighting stance, rather slack jawed with shock. She didn't really know what to think, but knew for sure that blue hair couldn't be normal.
Goku and Ruko waited, quickly getting over their shock. They expected this blue haired creature to leap out at them, swiping its long nails through the air in futile attempts to attack them. Or even snarl, and expose it's sharp teeth before trying to sink said teeth in to one of kid's hides in order to try and get a tasty snack before it could get at their fish. Instead, the creature only stared. It's wide, blue eyes looking almost as though it were studying them too. As though it were curious and unsure of Ruko and Goku's intentions. This confused them and made Ruko slightly irritated.
"What's wrong?" Goku taunted, "ya scared to face us?"
"Did ya run out of power already, monster?" Roku questioned with narrowed eyes, her guard down a little. "Not gonna fight?! Don't worry, we can take ya! Come on!"
"C'mon!" Goku repeated from beside her, and an eager, excited grin grew on his face as they waited.
Suddenly the head of the monster produced two arms. In one of it's hands, it held a small black cylindrical item- a gun. It pointed it's choice of weapon towards the kids, and yelled out; "Not quite!"
The gun fired and multiple bullets flew at them. With each shot that hit, the two kids yelped in pain. It felt like a swarm of bees were attacking them! They jumped about trying not to get hit, but fell over from the force of the blows. Once they fell, the loud noises stopped, and they groaned. Their ears rang, and echos from the weapon bounced all along the mountain range. The two kids sat up abruptly. Goku held his forehead tightly while Ruko cradled her stomach.
"That huuuurt...!" Ruko whined, and hissed painfully as she tried to get her stomach to stop throbbing. She could feel her toes curling from the pain."What was that?!"
"Holy cow...! What are ya, a witch?!" Goku accused, glaring at the demon, and demanding it to answer with his eyes.
"Wha-? But... How did-? Wha- what are you...? You... You kids shouldn't be alive!" The demon said, which made both kids growl.
"Ya thought ya finished us off?!" Ruko growled at the same time Goku growled, "Again?!"
"Hah, dummy! Stuuuupid! Y'think you can hurt us?!" Ruko bragged as she slowly got to her feet. She let her hand fall from her side and winced as she moved back into a fighting stance. "And with little ouchies like that?! Hah! Think again!"
"Grandpa told us about evil creatures like ya!" Goku added as he picked up the red rod that Ruko had dropped. Both kids stood up, taking their fighting stances.
"Your black arts wont work on us!" Ruko declared and Goku attacked with the rod as she went to attack with a punch.
"Your turn demon! Prepare to die!"
"Demon...?" Suddenly the demon dropped it's weapon and held up it's hands. "Wait! Hold on, you guys! Time out! I'm not a demon! I'm a human being, just like you!"
Both kids stopped, freezing mid-attack. "...Really?" they asked in sync, and were rather surprised.
The demon sighed, and put it's hands back down before pulling itself all the way out of it's shell. Both kids jumped back as it landed in front of them.
"You can see that for yourself!" the demon said, but the kids still held hostility towards it. It held up it's hands. "Look, I wont bite." It said, and tried to take a step forwards. The kids jumped back again, not liking it's movements.
"Stay back!" Goku warned and held the rod in front of himself and Ruko defensively. "Don't make a move!"
"A human ya say?" Ruko questioned, and both kids stepped forwards to circle around the monster in opposite directions.
"That's right. Not very trusting are you?" The demon chided as it watched the kids carefully. "Did you want to see my certificate of authenticity?"
"...No thanks..." Goku spoke, as Ruko tilted her head. Was there even such a thing? She looked to her friend, but he shrugged, not seeming to know either. Now that they were taking a closer look at the monster, the kids could tell that it really did look similar to them.
It had two long slender legs, two skinny arms and it's skin as as pale as a stone. But it also wore clothes that barely fit. The monster wore a pink dress that stopped mid-thy, a brown belt around the slender torso with a blue bag attached. And that's where any similarities stopped, with three major differences. It's blue hair being one, having lumps on its chest for two, and three; no tail. How could the monster possibly be human, if it had no tail?
"How long is this going to take?" the demon sighed, and the kids glanced at one another as they tried to find the monster's tail.
"Quiet!" Ruko demanded, and both she and Goku huddled together. They glanced at the demon repeatedly so that it didn't try and get away as they spoke to each other in hushed tones.
"It look's human enough..." Ruko said, and Goku nodded in acknowledgement. Ruko went on, "kinda like us but... something's different."
"It's so thin and scrawny!" Goku pointed out and made a face. "Looks sorta soft and bumpy too."
"Of course I am!" the demon exclaimed, and the kids jumped. They hadn't noticed when the blue haired demon had snuck up on them again. "I'm a girl, silly, that's why!"
"A girl?" Goku drawled with a skeptical look on his face.
Their grandpa had called Ruko a girl. And he had made sure that they both followed his rules after knowing some of the differences between males and females. But looking at the demon standing before them that was also claiming to be a 'girl'... Goku had to wonder if his grandpa was right. After all, Ruko was nothing like this other 'girl'. Goku then looked over at Ruko, who seemed to have been frozen while staring wide-eyed at the blue-haired demon 'girl'. It was a look that was quickly turning into one of horror which the blue-haired 'girl' didn't really pay much attention to.
"A female...? That's what you are?" Ruko questioned. Goku almost flinched from the disbelief that was in her tone.
Ruko's eyes were wide, but she didn't seem to be looking at anything physical in front of her. Her thoughts were all internal. She wasn't so sure if her grandpa was right to call her a girl now. She wasn't thin. And she certainly wasn't scrawny either; Ruko was fit, and hoped to stay that way. If it meant to be thin, scrawny and bumpy in order to be a girl... Ruko wanted nothing of it! She'd much rather join Goku in being called a 'boy' from now on than to suddenly become thin, scrawny and weak when she grew up!
This demon 'girl' in front of them looked as though she would cry at the sight of something scary. Or break a bone if she tried to throw a punch. Ruko liked fighting, and she liked being able to hold her own against others. If Ruko was a girl, would she only get weaker as she grew up?
Ruko closed her mouth and clenched her fists tightly. No, she wouldn't allow it. She would do everything she could to stay strong! Ruko couldn't allow herself to become weak- that was a thought that sent her heart racing with panic and fear, something she didn't like to feel.
But then she remembered how her grandpa once mentioned how, when a girl became a woman, they could do something that boys or men could never do. Something that a woman needed help from a man to start, but had to do the rest by themselves. It was intriguing, and when they were by themselves later after that lesson, Ruko and Goku promised to help each other figure out what this secret thing was when they each grew up to be a man and a woman.
"Oh my gosh..." The 'girl' said, and her already big eyes went wider. The sound knocked Ruko out of her thoughts, and the tailed child gave the other 'girl' her attention. "Are you guys saying you've never seen a girl before?"
The 'girl' in front of them went on talking, but Ruko and Goku shared a glance. If their grandpa was right, then of course they had seen a girl before- because Ruko was one. But being a girl also meant that you had to be human- and humans had tails.
Which meant that they had to find this girl's tail. That would tell them the truth if she's a human... or a monster in disguise! So Goku and Ruko started their search for blue haired girl's tail again, not sure why she bothered hiding it in the first place.
"Nope." Ruko said, not really listening to what the monster had to say now.
"Besides our grandpa, your the only other human being we've ever seen." Goku filled in, having listened more than Ruko had. She grabbed the pole from Goku as he started to explain when the creature's eyes had widened in confusion. "Grandpa told us about them though. 'Boy's need to be as polite as possible when speaking to girls. We treat them nicely', he said."
"And that 'girl's need to be just as considerate as their partners'." Ruko mumbled, not liking to remember when she got scolded. The blue haired girl didn't seem to hear Ruko though.
The girl smiled at Goku's recollection, and winked at him. "I see! Then don't you guys think you should get started?" she said, and swiped her braid over her shoulder. "What a nice thing to say! Your grandpa sounds like a very wise man! Where is he?"
"Well.." Goku trailed off for a moment as he tried to help Ruko find the girl's tail, but it didn't seem to be anywhere. "He died a long time ago."
Crouching down, Ruko used the pole to try and lift up the back of the girl's dress. Maybe, she had decided to hide her tail under it. Immediately, the girl grabbed the back of her dress to keep it down.
"Hey!" She exclaimed angrily and looked at Ruko accusingly. "What do you think your doing?! Shame on you!"
Ruko jumped back, narrowly missing being hit on the cheek. Goku jumped to her side, ready to fight again.
"We're just trying to find your tail..." Ruko muttered, looking hurt from being yelled at. She never did like being told that she was in the wrong.
The teen's expression softened as she looked at the both of them. The kid holding the red pole had dark spiky hair on their head. It looked more like a lions mane with the way that it stuck out in odd places and ended just past their shoulders in length. The kid was rather pretty with green eyes and a slender face- Bulma could almost see that this one was a girl- but thought that she was a boy due to the kids reactions earlier. She was also about an inch taller than her companion.
Said companion had short spiky hair that stood up up all over his head. It was as though he had stuck his finger in an electrical socket but never bothered to fix his hair afterwards. He had a fierce gaze with those brown eyes of his that made the blue-haired teen nervous. Also, they both had long auburn-colored tails.
"Maybe it takes longer for your tail to grow when you get older." Ruko speculated, and Goku grew thoughtful at the observation. Amused, the teen put a hand in front of her mouth to try and stifle back a giggle.
"I'm sure it'll sprout out any time now kids..." the teen said cryptically, and looked away from them.
Now knowing that this person had no tail, Ruko wondered how many other people out in the world had gotten rid of theirs too. The thought of purposely getting rid of her own tail sent a shiver down Ruko's spine. Not only would that probably hurt, but she'd be missing a part of her forever!
Confirming that this blue haired, tailless person was currently not a threat, Ruko decided to take a look at the monster that had hit Goku and the fish that he had captured for lunch. So the tailed girl turned and began to inspect the large metal shell curiously.
"Hey, how did ya get that monster to do what ya want it to?" she asked the blue haired girl, and the teen turned to see what Ruko was looking at. "How'd ya catch it?"
"That? Oh, its just my car. It's not a monster. People make 'em."
Goku jumped up on the car's frame, poking it with his stick. "So this is a car? We've heard of them in stories..." he said. "It looks tough but it wasn't much!"
"Grandpa told us about cars," Ruko explained when the girl looked confused again. "We've just never seen one before now." Ruko had walked up to the car and looked intently at it's underside. It was completely different than the smooth shell that made up the rest of it's body!
"You know, for little kids, you guys are really strong."
Goku and Ruko grinned wide at the compliment and turned to face the girl that had come out of the car.
"Thanks!" they chirped in union.
"Grandpa trained us to be like steal!" Ruko said proudly. Goku puffed out his chest and slapped his fist against his palm once or twice in response.
"Hey, because ya drive a car, does that mean ya come from one of the big cities?" Goku asked, when he was done, and jumped down to stand beside Ruko. They both stared up at the girl intently. "From 'civilization'?"
"You got it." the girl replied, and kids eyes seemed to sparkle from the girl's admission.
"Wow!" Goku exclaimed, and his eyes grew wide in awe.
"Why don't ya come with us? We can cook ya some lunch!" Ruko invited excitedly, and skipped over to Goku's catch. She picked it up by the tail and started to drag it towards their small hut as Goku ran to walk at her side.
"Ya can tell us all about the city your from!" He explained with a grin. Neither of them could ever get enough information out of their Grandpa. They loved to learn about the world outside of their mountain home, but they had never felt the urge to leave it either.
"Come on!" Ruko called, already half way towards the house.
"Wait, just a second!" The girl called, and both kids stopped and watched as she pulled out a round device from the blue bag attached to her side. After looking at it, the girl looked up again, her eyes going wide. The two kids walked back to the girl, smiles on their faces. They couldn't wait to hear her stories!
"I think it's safe to assume that we're having fish for dinner..." The girl said, putting her round device away. "Well, what's on the menu kids?"
"Well..." Started Ruko. "We can have a bite to eat."
"And talk!" Goku added.
"Then play together!" Ruko finished with a smile. The teen looked between both kids, then put on a stern face.
"Now see here." she said sternly and waved a finger at them. "If you guys think we're going to do anything indecent, you have another thing coming to you!"
The kids both got confused looks on their faces. They looked at one another, then back to the blue haired girl.
"'Indecent' ...what does that mean?" Goku asked, tilting his head to the side. The girl's face suddenly went red as she closed her eyes.
"Oh... Never mind." She whispered and looked away before giggling. Ruko turned away, and felt a little frustrated. Why would a girl act like that? It seemed way too complicated for Ruko's tastes and she already knew that it would be tiring to try and keep up with that.
"Girls are weird." Ruko mumbled with a frown. Goku walked along beside her, glancing at Ruko curiously for a moment before his stomach growled.
"Well come on, let's go!" Goku called over his shoulder and the blue-haired teen nodded.
"Sounds good. Guess I'll follow the giant fish..." After a few moments of silence the girl spoke up again. "So... What's your guys' names?"
"My name is Goku!" Goku said proudly. "G. O. K. U. Goku!"
"I'm Ruko. R. U. K. ..."
"O!" Goku supplied helpfully, and Ruko nodded in thanks.
"O. Ruko." Ruko confirmed, before glancing back at the girl following them. For some reason she was smiling at them. "What's your name?"
"Huh? My name? Mine?"
"Ya?" Goku asked, and walked backwards beside his friend with a smile on his face.
"Bulma..." The girl said quietly, as though she didn't want to give her name out. The kids laughed.
"'Underwear'?!" Ruko giggled.
"That's a funny name!" Goku laughed, turning back around.
"Yeah, well, Ruko and Goku aren't normal either!"
"But yours is weirder!" Ruko laughed, and Bulma's face turned red at the sound.
"Quiet! Bulma is very elegant." she said, then cringed at her own lie. "It's a lot better than Goku or Ruko. That's for sure!" she rectified, then crossed her arms while huffing.
The kids laughed at her as they led her to their home.
