Well here Kazuma was, getting suckered into going out on a date with Megumin, something that he was dreading about since they were dating at some point.
That and the fact that Megumin's idea of a date involved Kazuma being forced to wear his old adventurers outfit once more after a long time.
"This is ridiculous" jeered Kazuma as he was wasting a Saturday night with a group of LARPer's that are definitely afflicted with Middle School syndrome.
"Honestly, I think it looks good on you" said Moskii as she was drinking some fresh melon out of a melon.
"Thanks for the voice of confidence but I still feel like a dweeb ya know" said Kazuma as he picked up some toy arrows that had the arrow head replaced with a glass surfaced darts and a mainly foam padded shaft.
"Ready Kazuma" Megumin said excitingly as she was back to wearing her old Crimson Raider outfit and was even carrying her staff as the sight of it brought some level of worry to Kazuma.
"Please don't be going all gun-ho with that thing please" said Kazuma, "Calm down, it's not like I can do any actual magic in this world" said Megumin as she was right and Kazuma was thankful she couldn't so long as he had a say on the matter as the man of the house.
"Now let's go my friends are waiting for us" said Megumin as she began to tug on Kazuma to leave the house already and enjoy a night of nerding out.
"Don't go too crazy out there" said Aqua as she waved them all goodbye before focusing on more important things like making sure she and Yuuhi eat a nice meal before getting ready for bed.
After a brisk 25 minute walk to the park, Kazuma and Megumin were finally at the meet up point as to where Megumin's boss and other friends within the LARPing community.
"Megumin, you finally made it, and I see you brought a friend along" said Megumin's boss as he said the last part in an awkward jarred tone.
"Satoshi this is Kazuma, Kazuma this is my boss Satoshi from work" said Megumin, "Sup Kazuma here" said Kazuma, "Hey, aren't you the guy who was on the news a month or so back" asked a random LARPer.
"Yeah that's right, I'm the guy who works for the government to help keep the peace between humans and liminials" said Kazuma with great pride as he felt he finally got some well deserved recognition.
"Dude, that's like totally cool" said a different LARPer, "Megumin, exactly how do you know Kazuma" asked Satoshi.
While normally quick to make up a lie, Kazuma felt there was no harm in telling these people the truth about them being adventurers, after all these are LARPers and would probably assume that they were friends for a long time, which was true.
"We were party members for a few years before we became boyfriend and girlfriend for a while, but ever since we came here, he's practically forgotten our relationship and now I'm forced to compete for his affection with both members of our old party and his homestays" said Megumin rather bluntly.
Not expecting Megumin to literally tell the full truth, Kazuma looked at her with wide eyes and mouth agape while Megumin shot him a smug look over making him look like the bad guy.
"Wow, I had no idea he was your ex, much less you ex being a total douche" said a male LARPer as the female LARPers gathered around Megumin.
"Megumin, just say the word and we'll end this creeps social life by Twitter shaming him" said a female LARPer.
"It's fine guys, after all I'm over it and I wouldn't have invited him over unless I wasn't trying to rekindle our old flame again" said Megumin as she shot Kazuma another smug smile.
Keep that up and I will leave this park with not only with your panties, but the panties of all the girls who you got to turn on me before I make my move, thought Kazuma as he was using all of his self control from wanting to punish Megumin on the spot.
"Right, well with that being out of the way, Megumin has told us a lot about your past experience as an Adventurer Kazuma, and the skills you acquired no less as before reaching level 20 is amazing" said Satoshi trying to break the mood.
"Thanks" said Kazuma as he wanted to get this charade over with, "Ok guys, as always we must go over the rules as per agreement with the city, since we're allowed to be here this late at night" said Satoshi as he stood atop a random soap box.
"Remember we're only allowed to use toys that are completely covered in foam and shouldn't hurt your fellow LARPer no matter how hard you hit them, if you're using magic please be sure to pick up after yourself as to not be accused or get in trouble with littering, also remember it's a game between us and we shouldn't get park goers involved, especially with liminials, looking at you there Katagawa, foot note to that if park goers are interested in joining us, please be sure to call a timeout so we can discuss things from there. Sounds good, ok form into your groups and be in agreement as to your rolls tonight, Kazuma you're with me and Megumin as a trio of brave adventurers exploring the dark and earie sticks" said Satoshi.
"You get all that Kazuma" asked Megumin, "Yeah, I got it" said Kazuma as he took out a katana from his sword made of paper mâché and tinfoil.
"Nice sword buddy, but check out my spear" said Satoshi as it was made of rubber, paper, and fuzz.
"Nice, so I take it you know that I'm just a base adventurer, and Megumin is an archwizard, what about you" asked Kazuma, "I'm a level 23 knight named Rancelot, master of the spear of heroes, who can be occasionally seen with his trusty steed Apple Jack Daniels" said Satoshi with pride and finesse that it got Megumin fawning over him.
"See Kazuma, I told you my boss is cool" said Megumin as they got towards their place, "Hmm, he's yet to impress me" said Kazuma as he's used to dealing with high toned high brow people many times before, so dealing with one who by comparison is a friggin scrub to Kazuma wasn't leaving a good impression.
Eventually, it was time fore the trio to slay goblins, take on minotaur's, and rival adventurers for a good 30-45 minutes, before the group took a time out to start collecting all the paper wads, crayons, and dart bullets they had used, along with distributing their XP.
"Hey Kazuma, mind helping those guys over there, me and Megumin will be over with that group helping them clean up" said Satoshi, "Yeah sure" said Kazuma as he had to admit he admire this guys compassion to cleaning up litter.
"Wait Kazuma" said Megumin as Kazuma already ran off ahead leaving her feeling disappointed and dejected.
Damn it Kazuma we're suppose to be on a date here, thought Megumin with a pout.
"So you said that you and Kazuma used to date before, how did you guys wind up breaking up if you don't mind me asking" asked Satoshi.
"Oh um… well we didn't necessarily break up in a traditional sense" said Megumin, "Is there really a traditional way to breaking up with someone" asked Satoshi.
"Fair enough, but if you wanted to know he basically had an opportunity to return back home and without so much as thinking about it, much less considering my feelings or the feelings of the other members of our party, he just chose to left, with Aqua accidentally tagging along" said Megumin as she definitely felt jealous at the moment since she knew that if the roles had been different Aqua would at least have reservations of wanting to see Kazuma ASAP and possibly talk some reason into Darkness not tagging along, which is ironic since she was the one to tag along as Darkness' extra after she beseeched to the goddess Eris.
"Aqua?" asked Satoshi, "Yeah, she's a water goddess when we all thought she was an arch priest, but back to my story, I along with Darkness came chasing after him in the city, only to be given the cold treatment upon arrival" said Megumin as she sounded so frustrated about the situation now that she's talking about it.
"I mean, I thought we had something special, we adventured together, he's met my family, and I was aware how Darkness had confessed and approached Kazuma multiple times, and yet he chose me over her and Aqua, and for him to turn around pretend it never happened was what made it so upsetting" said Megumin.
"Megumin, it sounds like you're really frustrated with Kazuma, and yet earlier you said this night was for you to attempt to rekindle your guys' old relationship together, which forgive my bluntness, why would you go through so much for him" asked Satoshi.
"I… I don't know anymore, I couldn't give you an answer if I wanted to right now" said Megumin.
"I see" said Satoshi as they remained silent in picking up trash for a minute before striking up conversation again.
"Megumin, can I be bold and as you something" asked Satoshi, "Go for it" said Megumin.
"If you're frustrated with Kazuma, and you're no longer going out together, would you consider going out with me" asked Satoshi, "Huh" said Megumin with a derp like expression.
"I'm serious, from the moment when we first started working together Megumin, I started developing feelings for you Megumin, so I'll ask again please go out with me" said Satoshi.
"Gee, I don't know what to say other than I'm happy, but…" said Megumin as she didn't know how to reciprocate this guys feelings, after all Megumin was admittingly quite fond of Satoshi both in and out of work, he's always treated her more fair if not better than Kazuma many times before in the past, and then some.
"Hey guys we're done cleaning up and ready to play another game" called a different LARPer as everyone was preparing themselves.
"Come on guys, I'm actually starting to have some fun here" said Kazuma saving Megumin from answering.
"We'll talk later" said Megumin as she rushed towards Kazuma's side leaving Satoshi feeling dejected with jealousy.
After another half hour of grinding or so amongst friends, Kazuma had proved that for a jerk who dumped Megumin without giving the courtesy of dumping her, he was a very competent LARPer.
"So Megumin what do you want to do after this" asked Kazuma, "I don't know, don't you got work in the morning?" asked Megumin.
"It's fine really, come on we're supposed to have a date night together you know" said Kazuma as he reminded Megumin that he hadn't forgotten what tonight was all about.
"I mean we could always get some 7-11 Bento boxes and pizza if you want to do something" said Megumin trying hard to not enjoy the fact Kazuma was giving her love and attention for once.
Truth is that Kazuma overheard Megumin a little and after hearing about how hurt she was, he was reconsidering not only his attitude but also his old feelings for her, so he figured he'd give this date night a little more effort.
This however didn't sit well with Satoshi as he walked up to Kazuma with one of his suede gloves removed before throwing it at his chest.
"Satou Kazuma, I hereby challenge you to a duel between 2 men wanting nothing more than the hand to the young fair maiden Megumin" said Satoshi as he said so with as much gallantry as he could put in his voice.
"Satoshi what are you doing" asked Megumin, "I'm doing this for not only your own good but for us" said Satoshi as he felt like he was being chivalrous, when in Kazuma's eyes he something else.
"Hard pass dude, also being a controlling macho beta male died back somewhere in the 90's pushing towards the 2000's dude" said Kazuma as he was calling Satoshi out for what he is.
"Silence nave, you shall duel me or you shall go out and live your life as nothing more than a coward. Also we'll call you a butt on Twitter" said Satoshi as he got the rest of the LARPers roaring in agreement.
Now the smart way and responsible thing to do was to walk away and ignore these people, but seeing how these group of nerds are no different than a high school clique thinking they're superior to everyone else got Kazuma to change his mind.
"You want to go, let's go then, but under the condition we're not fighting for the right to date Megumin, but for the right to be the top dog here amongst the crowd" said Kazuma.
"If that's what you wish so be it" said Satoshi as they got into a circle with everyone, sans Megumin, cheering for Satoshi to beat this scrub.
I swear the next time I die, I'm not gonna ask for heaven, or reincarnation, oh no, I'm gonna ask Aqua and Eris to turn me into a vengeful, spiteful god to eliminate these beta bullies, these giga chads, and asshole alphas of this world till there's nothing left but omega virgins, thought Kazuma as he was allowing this beta showboat with his fellow beta's.
"Enough of your cheers, save it for when I finally finish wiping the floor with this rogue and blackguard" said Satoshi, "Come get some" said Kazuma.
"Here I go with my strongest attack, Spear Light Attack: 10,000 cuts" said Satoshi as he figured he was still playing a game with Kazuma, but he was through with such things.
"Create Water" shouted Kazuma he hosed down this nerd for a second as Satoshi slipped on his butt.
"Kazuma, we're not suppose to se actual magic, and by 'we' I mean you" said Megumin, "Hey this guy wanted to challenge me to a fight, so I'm just giving him what he wants plus a dose of reality" said Kazuma.
"if that's how you want to play then fine, put up your dukes" said Satoshi as he got back on his feet tossing his toys aside and raising both fists.
"Create earth, wind breath" said Kazuma as he finally went and kicked some dirt in this guys eyes, or rather blew some dirt, leaving Satoshi dazed and confused as Kazuma took this as his chance to not only finish, but humiliate him by going up behind him and giving this guy a wedgie.
"You have enough buddy or are you thirsty for more" said Kazuma in Satoshi's ear.
"You… bastard, I won't let you get away with this, and you'll see I'll get Megumin to date me" said Satoshi, "Give it up man, you're only making your relationship worst at this point" said Kazuma.
"That's where you're wrong, we've been livestreaming how the hero of Japan is actually a bully in his free time" said a LARPer as a few of them had been recording and have been dubbing over what's been actually said.
Well shit, I guess that's it for me then, thought Kazuma as he could actually give a flying fuck, after all he has been lowkey preparing and planning to escape this country once the government had lifted his and his homestays house arrest.
Before anything else can be done, everyone's phone's went off with a red-blue-yellow alert, which notifies people that there's currently a mad liminial out on the street, who's in a DTF mood with anyone right now.
Just as they were all about to call it a night, the group saw both a female Orc, a Lamia, and male Centaur stampeding towards their way.
"Told you guys there were people out this late playing and just ripe for the taking" said the female Orc, "And they even got some woman, hopefully none of them are virgins, I'd sure hate to break them on the first night" said the male Centaur.
"Everyone, run for you lives" cried one of the LARPers as they all threw their dignity out the window as they ran away screaming.
"Come on Megumin, you're slow roasting and I need you to broil girl" said Kazuma as he was the first to jet when he saw the glimpse of a horny female orc as he did not want to experience this ever again.
"Kazuma wait, Satoshi is in trouble back there" said Megumin as she stopped to see her boss getting constricted by the lamia as she began to tongue him, whilst attempting to remove his pants.
"Screw him, he's the reason I'm gonna get cancelled by society" said Kazuma as he was ready to proceed running for his life.
"Well I'm going back to save him" said Megumin as this got Kazuma's attention to do a 180 in his sprint.
"Fine we'll help him, but the moment I catch sight of that female orc, you can forget about me saving his dumb ass.
"I know you're in pain, but soon it'll all go away" said the female lamia as she began to stroke Satoshi, "Help me! She's going to rape me!" cried Satoshi as he finally revealed the little bitch that Kazuma suspected he was this whole time.
"Hey snaky get off him" said Megumin as she pointed her staff towards the lamia, "Back off little girl, you're killing the mood, plus if you even attempt to hurt me you'll get in trouble" said the lamia with a smug smile.
"Those rules don't apply to me" said Kazuma as he finally jumped to the scene with his hand sticking out.
"Create Water! Freeze!" said Kazuma he left the would be rapist very cold to the point that her hold on Satoshi not only broke, but if Kazuma kept this up he could put this girl into hibernation.
"Thank you Kazuma" said Satoshi with a sniffle, "Thank me later, we've got to get out of now and call in the MON Squad" said Kazuma as he finally lead the trio out the park where the authorities will take over things from here.
"You did good out there Kazuma" said Mr. Black as he was accompanied by Ms. Smith, "It was no problem, just glad that everyone else got away before they were all violated. Though I am curious to know what's got these liminials so riled up liked this outside of full moon" said Kazuma.
"Could be anything, from alcohol, drugs, we're sure to find out and fill you in tomorrow morning" said Ms. Smith, "All right guys, if you don't mind I've got to escort Megumin home" said Kazuma as he waved his bosses goodbye.
"So how did everything go" asked Megumin, "No one else got traumatized of getting almost raped by me if that's what you're asking" said Kazuma.
"That's good to hear" said Megumin, "Yeah, speaking of did everyone else go home already" asked Kazuma.
"Yes, they wanted me to tell you that they're sorry for their actions, especially my boss Satoshi and have all agreed to take responsibility and make a public apology for what they tried to do in canceling you on Twitter" said Megumin.
"Good to know, though honestly I don't know how you're going to cope with seeing that guy at work, much less everyone else after tonight" said Kazuma, "Yeah, I'm thinking about quitting my job tomorrow so long as you don't get mad at me and threatened to kick me out" said Megumin.
"So long as you promise to hunt for a different job, I've got no problem with it" said Kazuma as he reassured Megumin with a warm smile.
"Thanks Kazuma, you're the best" said Megumin as she leaned up to kiss him on the cheek.
"What no kiss on the lips" asked Kazuma, "You have to earn my love back still, so consider that kiss as a token of me finally forgiving you, you big dummy" said Megumin with a cheeky smile.
"I'll accept it you brat" said Kazuma as they walked back home hand in hand as Kazuma mentally prepared himself for the new work week.
